The win was the Dream's third consecutive on a four-game road trip. Golf – PGA – Wyndham Clark plays big and becomes a major champion at the US Open Wyndham Clark is the U.S. Open champion and certainly played the part. All he did was hold his nerve against a world-class collection of contenders. Clark held off Rory McIlroy to win by one shot at Los Angeles Country Club. And to think two months ago the 29-year-old from Denver was looking for his first PGA Tour title. Now he has two wins and is a major champion. And he likely will be part of the Ryder Cup team this fall. It was more disappointment for McIlroy. He birdied his first hole and that was his only birdie. Golf – LPGA – Leona Maguire plays last 6 holes in 6 under to win Meijer LPGA Classic Leona Maguire played her final six holes in 6 under and shot an 8-under 64 to win the Meijer LPGA Classic by two strokes, her second tour victory. Maguire made six birdies and an eagle in her bogey-free round at Blythefield to finish at 21-under 267. She caught playing partner Ariya Jutanugarn with an eagle on the par-5 14th hole to reach 18 under, then closed with three straight birdies to pull ahead of Jutanugarn and Xiyu Lin. Jutanugarn shot her second straight 66 and finished alone in second. Lin shot 68 and finished tied for third with third-round leader Amy Yang, who had a 69. NHL – Why Marty Walsh left the Biden administration to run the NHL players’ union Marty Walsh was less than halfway through his term in the Biden administration as labor secretary when the phone rang with an interesting opportunity. The call was about a job running the NHL Players’ Association. The former mayor of Boston and longtime Bruins fan was intrigued, interviewed and earlier this year got the role as executive director. Now three months into the job, Walsh is trying to get to know players and what they care the most about. His most pressing issue is the Arizona Coyotes and their 5,000-seat arena after a referendum for a new building failed. NHL – Golden Knights and fans celebrate 1st NHL championship with parade and rally Vegas Golden Knights fans lined the Las Vegas Strip for a Stanley Cup victory parade and a rally in front of their home arena to mark the team's first NHL championship. Fan rallied in front of T-Mobile Arena after a motorcade along Las Vegas Boulevard Saturday night. At one point people separated barricades and climbed fences but the crowd otherwise remained orderly. Above the arena stage where the hockey players gathered with the trophy, a banner displayed the names of victims of the October 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas that killed 58 people and injured more than 850. People in the crowd Saturday recalled the role the team played in helping to rebuild the spirit of the community. NBA – Bradley Beal being traded to Phoenix by Washington, AP source says Bradley Beal is being traded to Phoenix, where he will form a new power trio alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. The Washington Wizards and the Suns agreed to the deal on Sunday, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations. The person says Phoenix has agreed to send Chris Paul, Landry Shamet and a package of future second-round picks to Washington for Beal, a three-time All-Star. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade is pending league approval. Beal’s agent says he waived his no-trade clause to make the deal happen. CONCACAF – US beats Canada 2-0 to win CONCACAF Nations League Folarin Balogun and Chris Richards scored their first international goals, both off assists from Gio Reyna, and the United States beat Canada 2-0 for the Americans' second straight CONCACAF Nations League title. The Americans were again led by interim coach B.J. Callaghan, who took over May 30 and also will run the team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup starting next weekend. NCAAMBB – West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins resigns hours after DUT arrest West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins has resigned following a drunken driving arrest. The university announced his resignation Saturday night. Huggins was charged with driving under the influence on Friday night after his SUV stopped in the middle of traffic in Pittsburgh with a shredded tire. According to a criminal complaint, a breath test determined Huggins' blood alcohol content was 0.21%, more than twice the legal limit. Last month the university had suspended Huggins three games for using an anti-gay slur while also denigrating Catholics during a radio interview. Huggins entered the Basketball Hall of Fame last September and was the third winningest coach all-time in Division I. NCAA – NCAA medical committee seeks to remove marijuana from banned substances list A NCAA medical committee is recommending the removal of marijuana from its banned drug list and suggesting that testing should be limited to performance-enhancing substances. To pass, the legislation must be introduced and approved by all three NCAA divisions. A final decision is expected this fall. The proposal is one of several recommendations by the NCAA’s committee on competitive safeguards and medical aspects of sports. Other proposals include establishing a trace-level threshold for a banned hormone and metabolic modulator. Wade Haskins popped out, but scored MacMartin.  Riley Gloe singled and drove in two more runs, then scored himself on an RBI double from Nolan Roberts.  Bridgman had a 4-0 lead.  Bridgman would add two more run in the 5th inning, after Pagel led off the inning with a single and a single from Glow, new Algonac pitcher Caleb Thomas committed at balk, moving Pagel and Gloe up one base.  Roberts hit an RBI single, and then Ethan Stine did the same giving the Bees a 6-0 lead.  Algonac was able to plate a run in the top of the 6th, but Bridgman got that run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double from Pagel.  Page worked a 1-2-3 7th inning to close out the game and earn Bridgman the championship trophy.  Bridgman last won a baseball state championship in 1987 when the Bees defeated Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart 10-9 in 8 innings for the Class D state title. Baylor football welcomes the Kansas Jayhawks to Waco for Homecoming. Homecoming is a time where alumni gather together with current students and celebrate the magic of a university. It also typically marks a winnable game for any team, driving excitement and pageantry. This year, though, Baylor has a juggernaut — the Kansas Jayhawks. Look, I get it, this seemed like a really easy game during the preseason. However, that's not the case. Now, this matchup is between one team that's reeling and another that is just happy to have a few wins. Kansas is playing free. Baylor is playing not to lose. Locked On Baylor - Daily Podcast On Baylor Bears Football & Basketball

The Baylor Bears meet their toughest opponent of 2022 thus far as the top-10 Oklahoma State Cowboys march their way to Waco. While Mike Gundy is 2-1 against Dave Aranda, the latter has the latest laugh after a thrilling win in last year's Big 12 championship game. That is certainly on the minds of both teams as they prepare to tilt on Saturday. For Baylor, the rush defense has been impeccable. Really, holding each opponent under 100 rush yards to start the year is a wild stat. Even in games that saw Baylor pull starters early or go three deep, every player the defense has trotted out has had a nose for the run game. If that persists, Spencer Sanders will have to throw the ball. For Oklahoma State, if Sanders has to throw the ball, he will inevitably cough it up. In two games against the Bears last season, the veteran Cowboy threw seven interceptions. That is absurd. If that trend continues on Saturday, the Cowboys are in for a long afternoon at McLane Stadium. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Baylor Bears return home to McLane stadium to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys after defeating Iowa State 31-24. It seems the Bears were able to learn from the trip to Provo earlier this year and take out the Cyclones on the road in Ames. Drake Toll of Locked On Baylor joins Please Bear with Me to discuss the Iowa State game. Travis and Drake don't think the score was indicative of how the game really went. The Bear's were in control of this game from the start and Iowa State couldn't get anything going in the rushing game. Baylor also was able to intercept Iowa State QB Hunter Dekkers twice for their first 2 INT's of the year. Travis thinks the Bears have turned a corner. Then they'll discuss the upcoming match vs Oklahoma State and if either team will use last year's Big 12 Championship as motivation. Last year Baylor defeated the Cowboys for the Big 12 Championship leaving Oklahoma State literally inches from the CFP on a play Baylor Nation has dubbed "The McPlay. Travis doesn't seem worried about the game, and Drake gives his keys for a Baylor win. Finally Travis wraps up with his Bear Necessities and game prediction. Baylor hosts Texas on Saturday at McLane Stadium, and it's a tale of two teams going in very different directions. The Bears are coming off back-to-back wins over West Virginia and a ranked BYU team, while Texas is floundering with a couple of inexplicable collapses against Oklahoma and OSU. Is this a toss-up game? How do we see it coming out?  Baylor and Texas are meeting for the 111th time on Saturday, and while it's clearly been one-sided historically, the Bears and Longhorns have been a lot more balanced in the last decade-plus, with some feisty and memorable matchups. Do we think that Baylor and UT will continue to play each other, even after the Longhorns exit the Big 12? Or will it be more like Baylor-A&M? Despite the Texas-Oklahoma cash grab in heading to the SEC, it's hard to see how the Longhorns think they'll come out ahead, at least on the field. The Longhorns haven't exactly lit it up in recent years. Is this a zero-sum game for Texas, unless Steve Sarkisian can get UT winning with a little more frequency?  Kirk wants to know: Just how good is Baylor, really? Are they a top 15 squad? John and Brice compare and contrast the Bears to great teams of the past, including the 2015 and 2019 squads.  Cedric and Kirk grab a shovel and commence with some insightful digging into the truth about this year's Texas program, where the word "average" comes up ... a lot. Other than Bijan Robinson and a couple of others, does UT have any difference makers? Conclusion: This is a good team, but not a great team.  Since Ced and Kirk will soon be departing for the SEC, we thought we'd ask them which Big 12 city's food they'll miss the most. Could George's factor in?  And is there any good barbecue anywhere in the SEC? Your thoughts?  Support the show: https://wacotrib.com/sports/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's the week we've all been waiting for... Texas Hate Week. And this year it holds special meaning as it could be one of the last times Baylor hosts the Longhorns for quite a while.  Travis begins this episode addressing the recent coaching opportunities that have come available. Usually the coaching carousel doesn't start until near the end of the year, but it only took us about 8 weeks to get there. Coach Aranda has said some encouraging words about Baylor, but you never truly know until the pieces fall into place at these other schools. We are then joined by friend of the pod and former Baylor pitcher Max Garner. Max gives us an injury update on former Baylor baseball player and current LA Dodger Max Muncy as well as a quick World Series breakdown. If you are in Waco on Friday head out to the baseball field as the Baylor baseball alumni will be on the field. Baylor bounced back with an absolute shellacking (and yes I looked up how to spell that) of the West Virginia Mountaineers 45-20. In what most people expected to be a defensive battle, the Bears' came out and had their best offensive performance of the year. This episode begins with Travis' recap of the WVU game and how the Mountaineers were fortunate to eclipse 20 points. Most of their points came from either a tipped ball or the Baylor defense making mental mistakes... penalties. The Bears did a good job of lowering the total number of penalties, but they came at crucial moments of the game. Travis then welcomes back-to-back Big 12 Champion Quarterback Bryce Petty to bear with us. Bryce gives us his view of the team so far as well as dives into a breakdown of Gerry Bohanon's performance to this point in the year. We also get to hear Bryce's unique experience of playing the last game in Floyd Casey and the first game in McLane Stadium. Plus much more. Bryce will also give us his thoughts on the BYU matchup before Travis gets into the Bear Necessities for the week. Nothing too special, he only has one this week, but it's an important one. They talk about the youth homelessness epidemic across the country, and how The Cove is fighting it by providing a safe place for teens to thrive.Learn more about The Cove at: thecovewaco.orgLearn more about Charity Champions at: charitychampions.orgAbout The Cove - Heart of TexasAfter working as Homeless Liaison for Waco Independent School District for five years, Cheryl Pooler saw a huge problem. As she met with student after student who had been abused, abandoned, or kicked out of his or her home, she knew that they needed a safe place to go after the school bell rang each afternoon. She knew that these students deserved a chance to succeed and that the Waco community would not stand to see them fall through the cracks into chronic homelessness. Cheryl started researching best practices around the country and found that an after-school teen nurturing center was what Waco needed to ensure that these vulnerable students were empowered and equipped to graduate high school and achieve their goals. Cheryl reached out, and the community responded. In the summer of 2015, Cheryl Pooler and community volunteer Rosemary Townsend founded the Cove and formed the Board of Directors. The Cove is molded after the NEST in Georgetown, TX. In October 2016, The Cove began serving its first cohort of students. In the 2016-17 school year, The Cove served 61 individual students. This last year, we served 76, a nearly 25% increase. In their first year, The Cove saw 440 visits over 118 days of operation. In the 2017-18 school year, the nonprofit saw 1,359 visits over 138 days of operation.About the Charity Champions PodcastThe Charity Champions Podcast is co-hosted by Dale Smith, Director of Community Outreach for TFNB Your Bank For Life, and Randy Lane, CTO and VP of Marketing for 360 Solutions.
