We hear about these various labels of Judaism all of the time; Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Mizrahi, Hassidic, Talmudic, Kabbalistic. The list goes on and on and on. So how many types of Jews are there? Who better to answer that question than Rabbi Moshe Bryski of Conejo Chabad. Rabbi Bryski is a religious and community leader who shares the message that, truly, there is only one type of Jew despite the labels we get caught up in. Rebbetzin Shula Bryski, the rebbetzin of Chabad of Thousand Oaks in California teaches us to be truly present in the moment. Being present in the moment and appreciating what we have and what is all around us leads us to develop an attitude of gratitude. Having an attitude of gratitude is what brings us happiness. She also tells us that Hashem is with us at ALL times, and we need to be grateful for everything--the revealed good, and also those challenging situations that don't feel so good. This is because everything is from Hashem. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/vera-kessler/message

The Freestyle Club Episode Two: Give Me Pellas with DJ Bryski In this week's episode, we explore the various reasons for and against having multiple versions of a track upon its release. Traditionally, Freestyle songs used to be released with various versions on the Vinyl. Versions such as Accapellas, Synthappellas, Dubs, and Bonus Beats. Fast Forward to today and songs are typically released with only one version. There seems to be a correlation between the trend with vinyl losing its popularity to other forms of media e.g. CDs, MP3s, and even Streaming, and producers just releasing radio edits. We bring in DJ Bryski to share his experience as both a Deejay and a Producer. Listen in as he goes into details as to why he likes to have multiple versions of a track, utilizing them to express his creativity on the turntables. He then changes hats to discuss the processes involved in creating the different versions of a song from the Producer's side. If any of us remain skeptical about the Mind Body Soul Connection in regards to wellness, we need only remember the last time someone came into the room and startled us. Or when we got spooked out as a child. Or the time we felt publicly humiliated or shamed. Unless you’re living under a rock, or you are a rock! chances are likely that your face got warm and/or flushed, you got goosebumps, you jumped a mile, or all three. Our bodies are affected by our experiences, thoughts and emotions. The reverse is also true:Our experiences, thoughts and emotions affect our bodies. This knowledge has inspired new approaches in how doctors are interacting with patients, some encouraging their patients to partake in storytelling, telling their medical professional the details of how they developed a health issue- all in the name of developing a comfortable, trusting relationship that will ultimately affect the patient’s well-being. Other professionals are taking a more hands-on approach with their patients, understanding the importance of having, in the words of the Adams Award, a “warm hand of service.” And many are being sure to give their patients the gift of Hope before the appointment is over. Our soul, thoughts, and emotions can be a huge part of recovery.Without a doubt, there is a wide array of scientific explanations for this, but I’d like to share a spiritual one:G-d designed our body to be a home for our soul. This designation makes the body and soul deeply connected to one another. And we are hardwired to create meaning and purpose in our life by using the body to express the soul, our higher self. Some examples:My mind and soul tell me I want to think outside of myself about God’s desires, others’ needs. My body goes to a homeless shelter and I feed the hungry. My mind and soul tell me I yearn to connect to a Higher Power, a transcendent force, a God that makes our world feel less like a jungle. I want to live against a backdrop of peace. My body goes into a quiet corner, and I pray and connect to my Creator. My mind and soul tell me- I’m feeling guilt or regret over past decisions in my life.My body goes through the necessary steps to rectify the past, making amends in various ways.So yes, our bodies will always react to our experiences and mindsets in life, but the ultimate challenge is to constantly put the soul and mind in the driver’s seat, and allow our spirit to guide our body, in living a meaningful life.Shula Bryski, co-director of Chabad Jewish Center of Thousand Oaks, joins Late Night Health for a look at the Mind Body Spirit Connection from a Jewish point of view. "This is the last story." Additional music by Kerri Lake (flute music) and Kevin MacLeod ("Reminiscing").
"Whatever you do, don’t look back until I tell you. Otherwise, you’ve lost your friend forever." Sam takes Coyote's tests, and shares the last story Joëlle told her: that of La Corriveau, a witch who had seven husbands and killed them all... (Additional music by Kevin MacLeod: "Long Note One," "Heartbreak," "Ossuary 6 - Air.")
"During harsh winters, starving people become wendigo to survive..." Sam enters the deep, dark woods and meets a helper. Sure, she's on Joëlle's trail - but nothing's more dangerous than a Trickster. Additional Music by Kevin MacLeod ("Long Note One," "Ossuary 6: Air," "Ghostpocalypse - 1 Departure") and Kerri Lake (flute).
"I am a dog gnawing my bone/ In doing so, I rest alone/ A time will come that's yet to be/ When I bite him who's bitten me..." Sam finds some of Joëlle's old audio files, and recalls the night that almost ended things. Please note: this episode includes content some listeners may find upsetting. (Additional music by Kevin MacLeod: "Long Note One," and "In a Heartbeat.")
"This is a lot of little stories…and at the same time, it’s all one big story. That’s how life works, isn’t it?" Sam's archival investigations prove fruitless, but a clue to Joëlle's plans comes from an unexpected source. Interwoven is the story of Rose LaTulippe: a folktale with over 200 different versions - but none like Sam and Joëlle's. (Additional music: "Long Note One" (Kevin MacLeod), "Fiddle Melody" (Andrew Duke).
"It just takes the right story, that's all. Something impressive. A story they've never heard before." Sam's childhood friend Joëlle has vanished, leaving behind a note that doesn't make sense, a feather Sam doesn't recognize, and a lifetime of stories. Sam starts her quest with a retelling of Bonhomme Sept-Heures: a monster who steals away children out too late... Additional music by Kerri Lake (flute) and Kevin MacLeod ("Long Note One").
From intimate duels to the death to epic battles, the fight scene is a cornerstone of speculative fiction. For the writer, however, crafting a good fight scene can be an epic struggle to find the right blend of pacing and action. So my co-host K. T. Bryski and I went on a quest to find the answer to this one question: What is the key to writing a good fight scene? To ensure we covered all the bases, we asked that question to seven remarkable storytellers: Seth Skorkowsky, Cat Rambo, David Annandale, Andrea Phillips, Brad Beaulieu, Gail Carriger, and David Nickle. The result is an inspiring exploration into the nuances and subtleties of recounting the physical struggles of our characters. After a wild ride, we sit down for a good old-fashioned chin-wag. Coxwood secrets revealed, truths pondered, and oatmeal stout consumed.
At long last, it's the end. Katherine and Coxwood History Fun Park face the Witch in one final battle. Will time ruin them all? Find out in the thrilling conclusion to the Coxwood History Fun Cast!
After her long banishment, a source of pure malevolence returns. Coxwood quivers under her shadow as she sets about destroying the park we hold so dear. Time itself is...quaking. (Where have we heard that before??) The Witch is back.
Coxwood History Fun Park has acquired a new building! And a new building means a new basement...which means new hieroglyphs depicting the Ball of Evil. To solve this mystery, Katherine must risk Lady Grey's wrath. Also, Artemis and Phaedra get freaked out.
In the aftermath of the Old-Fashioned Country Fair, the park is scrambling for funds...and Katherine is scrambling for housing. Temperance's visions leads Katherine to question curator Sarah McBole about the hieroglyphs. Dark dreams, dark truths, and ever-hungry rodents.
Following last week's rebellion, the Park faces a sticky wicket. To appease the groundhogs' demands, we need FUNDS. MONIES. And Management is losing patience with this "podcasting nonsense..."
SOS. Groundhogs have staged rebellion. Park overrun with rodents. Send help. Sharp, pointy teeth. Not much time left. NO TIME LEFT. HELP. (Feat. PC Haring, Kathryn Lee, Paul Ellis, Leeman Kessler, and Blythe Haynes)
It's summer hiring time at Coxwood History Fun Park, and that means new interns - including very hot, very Irish interns who make Katherine's heart skip a beat. The ghost in the Wench and Boggs Historic Inn lashes out, and the Goblin Under the Stairs has unsettling news. Feat. Spencer and Blythe Haynes.

In support of the Acts of Whimsy Fundraiser for Jay Lake, a podcast version of my first published book (age 8). A pack of wolves embark on an epic quest for a legendary valley, in a stirring tale underlining the importance of family and environmentalism.
At last, the journey has reached its conclusion. In this world after Apocalypse, what ending remains for our heroes?
Time has run out: the Apocalypse is here. Serafine, Gaelin, Davi, and River engage in their final confrontation with the Angel and Alesta. The world is ending; who will be saved?
Dawn breaks on the seventh and final day. Davi and River infiltrate the Ecclesiat to rescue Praeton, while Alesta prepares her sacrifice.
The magi have crafted a spell that they believe will allow Serafine to hear the Hapax. Every guild and faculty gathers on the Magistatiem lawns, to cast one of the most complex spells ever written...
Upon learning that River has escaped, and Praeton is to be sacrificed instead, Gaelin confronts Alesta. Later, Serafine reunites with him, and plotting commences.
Serafine and Praeton attempt to rescue River before Alesta can sacrifice her. At the Magistatiem, Davi comes to terms with the destruction wrought by the fire.
River struggles to cope with her emotions after receiving news that fire has ravaged the Magistatiem. Davi has yet to return. Not only is his fate unknown, but River's aither supply is exhausted, leaving her in very real danger as well.
Serafine wakes Davi before dawn with the news that the Magistatiem is burning. Duty and desperation force Davi's return to the magi - heedless of the reception awaiting him.
While ministering to the City's residents, Gaelin discovers that the Magistatiem is planning something, but Davi suspects a trap. Meanwhile, Alesta's efforts to appease the Angel take a drastic turn.
It is the morning after Serafine's revelation, and the skies rain blood. Davi and River experiment with the aither, eventually drawing Praeton into their investigation.
During Osvald's funeral, Alesta officially assumes leadership of the Ecclesiat. Afterwards, Serafine gathers Gaelin and company in the anchorage cells...answering some questions, but raising many more.
Gaelin and company continue their investigation into the Hapax. Unexpected discoveries leave Gaelin feeling disillusioned and more drained than ever.
Father Osvald is dead, and Gaelin struggles to cope with the aftermath. Davi and Serafine venture into the City to check on the bridges' progress, while Praeton and River bond.
Gaelin and Alesta examine the "Prophecies of St. Memoyah," and discover references to the Hapax: the Word of Ael, the Word which began all creation. Meanwhile, Davi and River seek refuge in the Ecclesiat. They stir Gaelin's sympathies, but by passing River off as human, they play an increasingly dangerous game.
An unfortunate encounter piques Professor Volpes's suspicions, forcing Davi and River into flight. An assembly of the monks devolves into an argument between Gaelin and Alesta. The end is coming, but so is change.
Gaelin ventures into magi territory to retrieve "The Prophecies of St. Memoyah," where he encounters Davi and River. Back at the Ecclesiat, choirboy Praeton makes a new friend...and a new enemy.
The results of River's evaluation leave Davi fearing for her safety. Meanwhile, unrest among the people draws Gaelin away from his vigil over the increasingly-ill Father Osvald. Though he is determined to investigate the failure of Candlemass further, he must decide how deeply he is willing to delve.
Brother Gaelin was already nervous to preside over Candlemass - the Ecclesiat's most sacred day, occurring once every twenty-seven years. When the ritual goes wrong, he is forced into accepting the impossible: the end of the world is coming. Meanwhile, we meet student mage Davi Sanders, who is more concerned about his thesis on the origin of aither than the prospect that the End Days might be nigh.
