Dr. Michael Rydelnik is asked about the significance of 12 baskets of bread collected after the feeding of the five thousand. It led to a conversation about numbers listed in scripture and which number is the number of completion. Michael also taught Tom and Tabi the term Hapax legomenon, which means a word/phrase which only occurs once in scripture - and how you go about translating that word or phrase. The verse in question is Proverbs 29:21.Donate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshow/wmbwSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Today's poem offers an incisive analogy for analogies. Happy reading.A.E. (Alicia) Stallings is the Oxford Professor of Poetry. She grew up in Decatur, Georgia, and studied classics at the University of Georgia and Oxford University. Her poetry collections include Like (2018), a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize; Olives (2012), which was nominated for a National Book Critics Circle Award; Hapax (2006); and Archaic Smile(1999), winner of the Richard Wilbur Award and finalist for both the Yale Younger Poets Series and the Walt Whitman Award. Her poems have appeared in The Best American Poetry anthologies of 1994, 2000, 2015, 2016, and 2017, and she is a frequent contributor to Poetry and the Times Literary Supplement.Stallings's poetry is known for its ingenuity, wit, and dexterous use of classical allusion and forms to illuminate contemporary life. In interviews, Stallings has spoken about the influence of classical authors on her own work: “The ancients taught me how to sound modern,” she told Forbes magazine. “They showed me that technique was not the enemy of urgency, but the instrument.”Stallings's latest verse translation is the pseudo-Homeric The Battle Between the Frogs and the Mice (2019), in an illustrated edition with Paul Dry Books, and her latest volume of poetry is a selected poems, This Afterlife (2023, FSG). Send us a textBet you don't know what the word “hapax” means.Listen to this podcast with Kevin Green, COO of Hapax, an Ai based tool that is built around the files and date inside your credit union. As Hapax explains, “Our Enterprise Model learns your institution's unique practices, policies, and challenges to facilitate knowledge-sharing among your team. It provides a repository of specific data that team members can reference, spurring professional growth, streamlining training, and delivering results tailored to your institution so you can successfully navigate the industry's rapidly changing landscape.”Best of all, Hapax essentially pays for itself through reduced employee time spent sifting through credit union policies and procedures. The big name AI tools - think Chat GPT - are broad gauge while Hapax is very precisely focused and - critically - it's built around the credit union's own data.Importantly, too, each Hapax deployment is in effect a private data lake. Data is not shared with other institutions.Sound good?It will sound even better when you listen to the end of the show and find out who the CEO/founder is.Listen up.Like what you are hearing? An episode from 8/30/24: Tonight, I read four poems by the American poet Kenneth Rexroth (1905-1982). A few years ago, when I began digging through anthologies of American poetry, Rexroth stood out immediately among the usual names from the twentieth century. I can't think of many American poets who have written so beautifully about nature, about being a parent, or about love: Halley's Comet (1956) When We with Sappho (1944) The Wheel Revolves (1965) Hapax (1974) They can all be found in The Complete Poems of Kenneth Rexroth. You can support Human Voices Wake Us here, or by ordering any of my books: Notes from the Grid, To the House of the Sun, The Lonely Young & the Lonely Old, and Bone Antler Stone. I've also edited a handful of books in the S4N Pocket Poems series. Big Black — “He’s a Whore”, 1987. Albini and co. launch a grindball sardonic sludge from their shit catapult.Automatic — “Mind Your Own Business”, 2019. Classic Delta 5 jam repurposed by a one of the most exciting post-punk trios of the new school. Can I lick the crumbs from your table? Fuck yes.Gang of Four — “To Hell With Poverty”, 1981.From an album that reeks with brilliance in almost every note, this is an extremely guilty pleasure. That bassline could solve world hunger and that backbeat could launch rockets.Kas Product — “Never Come Back”, 1982. The sound of electro punk recorded in a kid’s cardboard fort.Pigface — “Cutting Face”, 1993. Absolute peak early 90s Pigface when every creative piston was firing on overdrive. Released on the between-albums Washingmachine Mouth EP, which in of itself is a dark trip into psycho electronics.16 Volt — “Motorskill”, 1995. Released at the very apex of “industrial metal”, 16 Volt’s first album outpaced their brethren with sharper production, better songwriting and a firmer grasp of why “industrial” mattered for the disillusioned. Its menace is espoused perfectly on “Motorskill”, its most widely traded single.Cyanotic — “Signal The Machines (Randolph & Mortimer Remix)”, 2019. R&M run this electro-metal stomper through their trademark EBM workout with astonishing results. This is built for bodies in motion.A Projection — “Transition”, 2017. Intoxicating hit of darkwavey post-punk masquerading as an ultra economical top 40 pop song. Fun, sad, dark and bright all at the same time.Hapax — “Elegy”, 2019. Perhaps the best post-punk album of 2019, every song on Hapax’s astonishing third LP is a tour de force of gothic catharsis, a late-night, slow-motion fall through lost loves and fragile memories. “Elegy” offers no comfort except reflective commiseration.IAMTHESHADOW — “The Skin”, 2018. This delicate goth mover bleeds loss and desperation, but the velvet harmonics on the chorus are soul-shaking and literally unforgettable. This is ten times better than it has any right to be and the scene is lucky to claim them.Body of Light — “Don’t Pretend”, 2019. An album worth revisiting over and over again for its explosive, neon-lit dance fight montage gems like this.Night Sins — “Two Headed Dream”, 2019. Philly’s darkwave maestro bolts a driving beat onto a sultry bassline and curtains of gothy keys.Bloc Party — “Ares (Villains Remix)”, 2009. Whatever your opinion of Bloc Party, there’s no denying their passion for remixes and giving other producers a platform. This rinse converts a barn-burning post-punk grenade into a city-destroying dancefloor nuke. No prisoners on this one.SARIN x Imperial Black Unit — “Will To Destroy”, 2019. Industrial techno has every opportunity to fall stale and formulaic, but in the hands of these guys, it’s a near infinite sonic lab in which to devise new forms of skull-melting anthems. Masters at work.

In a special interview episode, I chat with actress Blythe Haynes (the voice of Serafine) about acting, writing, Hapax, and the NaNoWriMo Musical. Learn more about the latter at www.nanomusical.com and www.indiegogo.com/nanomusical.
At last, the journey has reached its conclusion. In this world after Apocalypse, what ending remains for our heroes?
Time has run out: the Apocalypse is here. Serafine, Gaelin, Davi, and River engage in their final confrontation with the Angel and Alesta. The world is ending; who will be saved?
Dawn breaks on the seventh and final day. Davi and River infiltrate the Ecclesiat to rescue Praeton, while Alesta prepares her sacrifice.
The magi have crafted a spell that they believe will allow Serafine to hear the Hapax. Every guild and faculty gathers on the Magistatiem lawns, to cast one of the most complex spells ever written...
Davi, River, Gaelin, and Serafine return to the Magistatiem. While Davi convinces the magi to aid their cause, River must hide her identity from those who would destroy her without a second thought.
Upon learning that River has escaped, and Praeton is to be sacrificed instead, Gaelin confronts Alesta. Later, Serafine reunites with him, and plotting commences.
Serafine and Praeton attempt to rescue River before Alesta can sacrifice her. At the Magistatiem, Davi comes to terms with the destruction wrought by the fire.
River struggles to cope with her emotions after receiving news that fire has ravaged the Magistatiem. Davi has yet to return. Not only is his fate unknown, but River's aither supply is exhausted, leaving her in very real danger as well.
Serafine wakes Davi before dawn with the news that the Magistatiem is burning. Duty and desperation force Davi's return to the magi - heedless of the reception awaiting him.
While ministering to the City's residents, Gaelin discovers that the Magistatiem is planning something, but Davi suspects a trap. Meanwhile, Alesta's efforts to appease the Angel take a drastic turn.
It is the morning after Serafine's revelation, and the skies rain blood. Davi and River experiment with the aither, eventually drawing Praeton into their investigation.
During Osvald's funeral, Alesta officially assumes leadership of the Ecclesiat. Afterwards, Serafine gathers Gaelin and company in the anchorage cells...answering some questions, but raising many more.
Gaelin and company continue their investigation into the Hapax. Unexpected discoveries leave Gaelin feeling disillusioned and more drained than ever.
Father Osvald is dead, and Gaelin struggles to cope with the aftermath. Davi and Serafine venture into the City to check on the bridges' progress, while Praeton and River bond.
Gaelin and Alesta examine the "Prophecies of St. Memoyah," and discover references to the Hapax: the Word of Ael, the Word which began all creation. Meanwhile, Davi and River seek refuge in the Ecclesiat. They stir Gaelin's sympathies, but by passing River off as human, they play an increasingly dangerous game.
An unfortunate encounter piques Professor Volpes's suspicions, forcing Davi and River into flight. An assembly of the monks devolves into an argument between Gaelin and Alesta. The end is coming, but so is change.
Gaelin ventures into magi territory to retrieve "The Prophecies of St. Memoyah," where he encounters Davi and River. Back at the Ecclesiat, choirboy Praeton makes a new friend...and a new enemy.
The results of River's evaluation leave Davi fearing for her safety. Meanwhile, unrest among the people draws Gaelin away from his vigil over the increasingly-ill Father Osvald. Though he is determined to investigate the failure of Candlemass further, he must decide how deeply he is willing to delve.
Brother Gaelin was already nervous to preside over Candlemass - the Ecclesiat's most sacred day, occurring once every twenty-seven years. When the ritual goes wrong, he is forced into accepting the impossible: the end of the world is coming. Meanwhile, we meet student mage Davi Sanders, who is more concerned about his thesis on the origin of aither than the prospect that the End Days might be nigh.
