Donald Macleod invites us to join Bach and his family during the Christmas season, at five different periods in his life. Christmas can be special wherever you live, but to experience a truly Christmassy Christmas, many would say that the only place to go is Germany. Plenty of Britain's favourite Yuletide traditions originated there and Germany's citizens have always had a special knack for celebrating this time of year. This was certainly true in J.S. Bach's lifetime and, right through his career, he produced quantities of amazing Christmas music that we still love and revere today. All this week, Donald Macleod invites us to join Bach and his family during the Christmas season, at five different periods in his life, to see how his story develops and revel in the glorious works he created for Christmastime. Music Featured: Chorale Prelude: Gott, durch deine Güte, BWV 600 Gelobet seist du, Jesu Christ, BWV 91: Opening Chorus Sehet, welch eine Liebe hat uns der Vater erzeiget, BWV 64: 5. VYS0013 - Show Notes In this noticeably un-Christmassy Christmas episode Hine and Buckley catch up on the events of the past few months. Occult experiments in an Air BnB in Yorkshire? Check. Contact with a mysterious and potentially angry entity on the spirit box? Check. Teaming up with a spirit buddy called Herman? Check. And what is Hine doing taking spiritual advice from frogs, salamanders and bears? Better check for yourself... Welcome along to the least Christmassy Christmas show you'll ever listen to. Not a sleigh, jingle or bell in sight. What there is though, is 47 tunes in just over 2 hours. We often struggle to record together these days, so this was a real treat. What we ended up with was 2 mixes, a few of my favourites from this year to open, a 3From an LP released this month, 3 new tracks as closers and an Evolve selected Last One. Evolve's mix takes you from around 1998 to 2021, driven by a few tracks from the monumental ‘Hard Times' LP released in 2008 on DNAudio interspersed with some of his faves from this last 20+ years. Mine is a full on party mix, with tracks ranging from 1997 right up to this month. A lively selection of classic tunes blended with what's new and funky. A shout to the Eruption family as ever. Eruptionradio.uk - setting the standard! A massive shout to them for the recent 24 hours DJ-athon in the name of Centrepoint. It's the FINAL live show of 2021! Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton IN-STUDIO, alongside Matt Binder for the WHOLE show, to round up the week in news, and reflect on the year that was. They begin by covering the recent NYT scoop on the FBI's infiltration into Black Lives Matter protests in Portland last year, in which they employed mass surveillance and entrapment tactics to round up leftists for vandalism or having arms, as well as the wild contrast between these widespread efforts and the solo informant and lack of presence by the FBI at the Jan 6 insurrection. This allows Matt, Brandon, and Emma to look into the history of the FBI's infiltration of the left, and how, no matter the amount of self-victimization on the right, their complaints simply cannot compare to the levels of surveillance and oppression of leftist groups. Next, they cover Donald Trump, the racist clock, somehow being right twice yesterday, including his blunt shutdown of Candace Owens as he flaunts the three Trump vaccines and a critique of his wife's own NFT drive. This brings up a prolonged discussion of crypto's continuation of capitalist scams, and how this new frontier of the internet is working to commodify every element of the online world, ultimately serving the same speculative pockets that succeeded in running wild after 2008. They also touch on the new COVID pill, and explore where we're at two years into the pandemic. And in the Fun Half: Matt, Matt, Brandon, and Emma discuss the set up to the JFK assassination, Dave from Jamaica asks the hosts to remove one technological innovation from history and what they think about Trump's pro-vaccine rhetoric, before he and Brandon jump off into a discussion of Ice Cube's “Black. White.” race-swapping reality TV show from the aughts. Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump reflect on their reclamation of the Christmas spirit, and the crew brainstorms the best non-Christmassy Christmas movies. Elon joins the Babylon Bee to remind us that the right is getting better at comedy, and it's making the left nervous… wait no it's that the world is getting more woke and it's making HIM nervous, Blake Masters finally capitalizes on his meet-cute with Peter Thiel at Stanford, and Kowalski concludes this year's agricultural reports, plus, your calls, IMs, and goodbyes heading into the New Year! So here it is, our Christmas Special and everybody's having fun... we didn't really talk about Christmas but instead it felt like we pressed record on the WTS 2020 office party. As always, when joined by Gary Mackle and Paul Howard, we never know what way the conversation will go. From the gift exchange to dodgy doctors, rat infestations and food disposal, VAR to the Milky Bar Kid, it's random and it's beautiful. Happy Christmas and thanks for listening. Here's to a brighter a better 2021, we'll see you there.
We brought a gift for you, pod pod pod pod poddd! Welcome to a not-Christmassy Christmas edition of Stace & Barry In The Morning! This episode, Stace is singing the praises of a cartoon, Barry is yet again choosing a Musical Musing that can't be added to the playlist, and Stace loses some Friendship Points... We both hope you all have a wonderful, safe Christmas and New Year. See you in 2021!
In a pretty un-Christmassy Christmas special, this week we're chatting about what effects crocodiles have on gambling habits, pondering whether dogs can tell that other dogs are indeed dogs, finding out if the Spice Girls predicted upcoming astronomical events, contemplating whether we should follow Vietnamese honeybees and smear poop around our houses, and discovering why Ellie has finally decided that climbing Everest will probably be a bit too much for her.If you find some fun science that you think deserves its place on the show, we'd love to hear from you! We review pivotal Christmas episodes and not so pivotal ones. The 2000 remake of A Christmas Carol which starred Ross Kemp on ITV. The 1986 infamous episode of EastEnders. Plus, our favourite Royle Family Christmas special.

It's our thoroughly non-Christmassy Christmas episode, and the last Fuzzy for 2016, so we're talking about colour in nature. Why are animals colourful? How did yellow patterns come to mean "please don't eat me, I'm poisonous, I promise" and how did tricksters come to mimic those patterns for their own ends? Eleanor is joined in the studio by Thomas, (a biochemistry PhD student with an encyclopedic knowledge of the natural world and a penchant for awful puns), and Mitchell, who was probably a dinosaur in a previous life. Enjoy, and Happy New Year from Fuzzy!
Zom is comin atcha with an epic-length not-so-Christmassy Christmas bonus. TWO times the Doctor this week! Oh come all ye miners and ear discussions of ESCAPE FROM ZAHRAIN and THE 13TH WARRIOR, amongst other things, obviously! Have a happy holiday, and thank you to everyone who listens! The post Xmas Bonus Spectacular – Escape from Zahrain & The 13th Warrior appeared first on Silva and Gold.
On this eggnog-flavored episode, I'm joined by one of my favorite artists, the brilliant and prolific Alex Pardee. We share some of our favorite Christmas memories, including Santa's toy counterfeiting ring, sweaty Christmas carolers, boys wanting girl toys, dolls made out of produce, facial road rash, tall Tiny Tims and the death of Santa. If you miss this episode, YULE regret it (I'm so sorry). Visuals Did you know that Santa made the Dungeons & Dragons Fortress of Fangs playset just for Alex? It's true. I karate chopped everything in a 10 mile radius the year I got my Fisher Price Miss Piggy puppet. Alex with his Valterra Zombie board before going pro. They don't call it The Nightmare for nothing. This poser Nash skateboard nearly killed me. Extras Want to ruin Christmas for the kiddies, tell them that Santa Claus is dead. I recount the time I wanted to be Jacob Marley.
