The year of the stitch up has had a couple of misfires for Dave's picks, with Chris unfortunately declaring Cloud City's for both sword and sorcery adventures - Gor and The Barbarians. So this is the time to roll out the cult classic sci-fi movie from 1984, Trancers.Trancers was a low-budget sci-fi film produced by Charles Band's Empire Pictures, a company known for its B-movie output during the 1980s. Directed by Charles Band and written by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo, the film was conceived as a time-traveling noir with a futuristic twist, inspired by Blade Runner and classic detective stories. The production had limited financial resources, so the filmmakers cleverly set much of the movie in present-day Los Angeles rather than the distant future, allowing them to save on costly futuristic sets and effects. The film starred Tim Thomerson as the grizzled, time-traveling cop Jack Deth and a young Helen Hunt in one of her early roles. Despite its modest budget, Trancers managed to craft a unique cyberpunk atmosphere using creative cinematography and neon-lit cityscapes.Empire Pictures, known for churning out cult classics, ensured the movie had a quick and efficient production, utilizing familiar locations and a mix of practical effects to bring its sci-fi elements to life. The film's pulpy, hard-boiled dialogue and time-travel premise helped it stand out in the crowded landscape of low-budget sci-fi, leading to a small but dedicated cult following. Trancers performed well enough on the home video market to spawn multiple sequels, solidifying its place in the annals of ‘80s cult cinema. The movie's mix of noir and sci-fi influences, along with Thomerson's performance, kept it alive long after its initial release, proving that even a low-budget indie film could leave a lasting impact on the genre. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter.www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesbackTrailer Guy Plot SummaryIn a world where the future is on the brink of collapse, one man must travel back in time to stop an unstoppable evil. Jack Deth is a hard-nosed cop on the hunt for Martin Whistler, a madman who turns people into mindless, murderous Trancers. But when Whistler escapes to 1985, Deth is forced to follow, leaping into the body of his own ancestor. With the help of a fiery young woman, Leena, he'll have to fight his way through an army of mind-controlled killers, stop Whistler, and save the future… before time runs out!thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback

Hi Boppers and Goblins! This guest is close to Rick’s heart and family. Danny Bilson is a writer of film, television, and video games. He is also a professor at The University of California. Danny was Rick’s uncle's writing partner, Paul DeMeo, up until Paul’s passing in 2018. This episode is a tribute to Paul, all the brilliant work he did, and the loving dedication he had as a father, husband and amazing uncle. Paul and Danny had worked together for decades, and their long list of credits include, but is not limited to: The Rocketeer, The Flash, The Sentinel, Viper, and even Medal of Honor multiple James Bond and 007 video games. Their last project together was "Da Five Bloods," which Spike Lee directed and released a couple weeks ago on Netflix. (See the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5RDTPfsLAI) Rick dives into Danny and Paul's history, how they navigated the complicated Hollywood industry, why Danny’s rollercoaster is a metaphor even he doesn’t understand, and why this last project was so important to Danny and everyone around Paul. Rick reflects on his time with uncle Paul, and Danny gives insight into how his writing partner/best friend's love of his family permeated into his work meetings (appropriate or not). We hope you like this episode and enjoy the film - a beautiful legacy at a poignant time in history . This episode is most importantly for Miranda, Annabella and Aunt Lauren. Gavin and Daniel Grant (Spoiled Rotten Podcast) review the Spike Lee Joint Da 5 Bloods. Wikkipedia - Da 5 Bloods is a 2020 American war drama film directed by Spike Lee, who also produced alongside Jon Kilik, Beatriz Levin, and Lloyd Levin. It stars Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Clarke Peters, Johnny Trí Nguyễn, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Mélanie Thierry, Paul Walter Hauser, Jasper Pääkkönen, Jean Reno, Veronica Ngo, and Chadwick Boseman. The film's plot follows a group of aging Vietnam War veterans who return to the country in search of the remains of their fallen squad leader, as well as the treasure they buried while serving there. Originally written by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo in 2013, the script was re-worked by Lee and Kevin Willmott following the pair's BlacKkKlansman (2018). The cast joined in February 2019 and filming began a month later, lasting through June and taking place in Southeast Asia. With a production budget of $35–45 million, it is among Lee's most expensive films. Netflix digitally released Da 5 Bloods worldwide on June 12, 2020.[2] It received positive reviews, with critics praising its direction, story, themes, cinematography and particularly Lindo's performance.

This time around I talk about one of my favorite Sci-Fi b-movies of all time!...
For this episode I'm joined by special guest Danny Bilson, a movie and TV veteran who's probably best known for being co-creator (along with Paul DeMeo) of the 1990 version of The Flash, which aired for one season on CBS, and co-writer of the 1991 feature film The Rocketeer. Danny was gracious enough to join me for a fun and freewheeling conversation about the ins-and-outs of the industry as we covered the Flash's too-brief first TV run and its ignominious cancellation. We also talked about the production of The Rocketeer, the short-lived ABC adaption of The Human Target, UPN's The Sentinel, and much more!
