How to balance automation vs personalisation in lead generation. An interesting trend we see is that people like Max Romanchuk from https://leadgen-close.com/ with a ton of automation go back to (hyper-)personalisation. 3 things that we learnt from him: 1️⃣ Outbound lead gen is very local: Things that work in the US don't work in Western Europe and vice versa. Also, database-based automation options (say Apollo.io) are great for non-GDPR geographies, but should be avoided 2️⃣ Stop selling, start having a conversation: Automation via Dux Soup, snov.io etc. has its charms. But salespeople should use technology wisely not to pitch, but to open a personal dialogue based on great prospecting 3️⃣ Commitment is a two-way street: Max experimented with commission-only collaborations, but noticed also clients were less committed to put in the required work to succeed
For this forty-seventh episode, I talked to Will van der Sanden, Founder and CEO of Dux-Soup, one of the leading LinkedIn automation tools in the market. Dux-Soup started when Will wanted to help his wife with reaching out to prospects for her business. As a developer, he built tools to scrape different sites, like Yahoo, the Yellow Pages and LinkedIn. When he showed his software to other people, he got quite some interest going for the LinkedIn scraping, so he decided to specialize on this. Despite the uncertainty of building a tool on top of another platform, especially unofficially, Dux-Soup has now been around for five years and has gathered over 60.000 users on its software. We talk about how to build a remote team, why Dux-Soup mostly employs freelancers, why they price their product lower than competitors, how Chrome sets the internet standards, and why listening is a founder’s most important skill.

Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
Wondering how you can get PR and media coverage a for your agency? Afraid your agency isn't newsworthy? Then it's time to learn some simple tips to get your agency the media coverage it deserve so you can generate interest and leads organically, plus amplify your brand. Today's show guest is talking ways to jump-start your agency's publicity. In this episode, we'll cover: 3 tips to achieve media coverage. The #1 thing to do for a media interview. Today I chatted with Emily Richett, founder and owner of Richett Media. In 2013, Emily left her job as a TV news reporter to start a new venture and naturally leaned towards publicity. Over the past five years her agency has grown from a solo act, to now 5 full time employees. Emily shares some great advice on working with different media outlets and how to start getting your agency in the news. 3 Tips To Achieve Media Coverage Your agency is newsworthy, even if you don't think so. There are always ways to be newsworthy if you understands what the media outlets are targeting, what they care about and the natural ebb and flow of the news cycle. Emily shared 3 big tips for getting noticed by the media: Make it easy for the media to want to cover your story. The media is going to cover seasonal and holiday trends, based on their annual calendar. If you can connect the dots for them and align with a season or time-sensitive current trend you're more likely to get noticed. Create the hook for the media. Often times reporters are too busy, so if you do some of the leg work for them it's a much easier sell. Tie into what the media outlet's viewers care about. People care about people (not businesses) and their impact on society. Outline how your agency is making an impact, whether on a local or national level. Utilize social media as a media lead generation tool. On Twitter search #journalrequest, where journalists request information and quotes for stories. On LinkedIn, use Dux Soup as a lead generation tool to leverage for media lead generation. Check out other resources, like H.A.R.O. ("Help a Reporter Out") The #1 Thing To Do For a Media Interview Prepare in advance! You want to leverage this media opportunity, so you MUST do your homework in order to make your media coverage great. See if you can find out what questions they will ask. A great way to do this is to study past interviews. Create a list of questions you want to be asked in order to touch on the important topics; provide the list to the media outlet. If your agency will be in print, provide professional pictures and /or headshots. If you agency will be on TV, shoot a hi-res B-roll and provide it. Remember to be yourself. Find your agency's voice. [clickToTweet tweet="Fifty-percent of a great PR opportunity is getting the press. The other 50% is leveraging the media exposure." quote="Fifty-percent of a great PR opportunity is getting the press. The other 50% is leveraging the media exposure."] Always have a call to action with media coverage. Make sure the viewers can find your agency or your client. Jake is the founder of two fantastic companies in sales and lead gen, he’s a real wealth of knowledge on how to grow your business with outbound tactics. At Lead Cookie, he helps B2B sales teams generate more leads through done-for-you Linkedin Prospecting. The service is 100% risk free as we have a 30 day money back guarantee. I scaled Lead Cookie from Zero to $33k MRR as a productized service in 6 months. At Outbound Creative, he helps agencies win their dream clients through custom consulting. Prior to starting Lead Cookie, he ran business development for a video production agency and won the business of multiple Fortune 500 clients and A-List touring artists. He doesn’t have an office, but loves Colorado and can be frequently be found traveling the world. He and his team are 100% remote, with no plans to change.Early beginnings Jake started with a recording studio at his basement from the age of 16-19 years old where he charges bands $10 a song to record them; into a full-time audio production company. Eventually he paired with another guy as business partners and ended up forming a video production and animation agency; and ended up stumbling into multiple fortune 500 client. He sold his first business to his partner and went into consulting for several years. A year ago, he ramped up Lead Cookie and has been a huge success since it kicked off.Sales & Systems (~2:30) Jake’s expertise is on building outbound sales process. He thinks that a lot of people struggle to get going or to get that right, so he focused his career on it for several years. His agency started using outbound to grow and get more clients by first running a dream client campaign where their target customers are worth up to the top, like event planners in the industry which led to their first customers closing huge fortune 500 deals.Starting Lead Cookie (~5:55) Jake came across LinkedIn when he was doing solo consulting. When he got a customer without doing anything that intentional, he dabbled more into using LinkedIn by researching about thought leaders of the industry and learn about their best tactics and how to master the platform. He studied Josh Turner and John Nimmo, looked at what they were doing, teaching, and he went out and started testing the tactics that they were teaching which led into his first-month booking 11 phone calls, had another 10 leads in the scheduling process, then ended up closing three deals within 60 days. When Jake saw that most were focusing on Facebook Marketing and Facebook Advertising and there was almost no one specializing in LinkedIn. He was getting more clients from LinkedIn than anywhere else; this made him focus on the LinkedIn platform and provide a productized service.Productizing The Service (~9:20) They optimize on people’s profiles, send a four-step drip sequence to prospects on a daily basis and they ramp up traffic to their LinkedIn profile. They just focus on this one thing that they know works and when paired with the right customer, they basically know that they will see results for them. They don’t take things that are custom when people try to push them out of their process. Building out those processes do let them operate at a lower cost They give away scripts and they teach online on their website. They have an ebook where they literally teach all of their tactics (https://leadcookie.com/ebook) He shared their secret sauce which is the organization of the processes and their ability to take all of that time off someone’s daily work.Ramping up Traffic on your LinkedIn profile (~12:35) Jake introduces Dux Soup, a Google Chrome extension that will basically go visit 500 profiles of target prospects every day which they just use for visiting profiles. It is a tool that will get you more eyeballs on your profile, leading to getting inbound connection requests. You’ll see traffic to your profile jump up by a thousand percent typically after about a month and doing it every day. So if you have your profile optimized, you've got good copy on there, you have an engaging and an engaging headline and a call to action, this can be a great way to drive leads to your business. Dux soup is $15 a month, set this up in five minutes a day. It’s a super quick, easy tactic if you don't have that much time and you're just kind of wanting to ramp this up as another channel.Sales Analytics and Automation (~15:50) You need to try to be a closer and get people to say, Yes or No as quickly as you can so that they’re not wasting up time or muddying up the middle of your funnel Have a Nurture Status in your CRM. This is super powerful for the people that say, “Hey, not right now”, or anything like that. Add them to an email list or add those to a quarterly follow up where you go through and try to nudge all those. Jake is a big believer in Sales, so having to do personal outreach not trying to automate everything, that even if you outreach to those every 2 or 3 months, that nurture status is super useful. Another tool that Jake uses is Rebump (https://www.rebump.cc/), that if you are operating in Gmail, you can basically do an individual drip campaign. Like while you are writing an email, you can personalize the first email and then set a drip campaign to follow up with that person a few times. This is really useful for people that are in the middle of the funnel, who haven't gotten a call yet, they've expressed interest but haven't engaged yet. There are so many leads that just get stuck in that period before you get them on the phone. Jake finds that that is a really great tool to personalize that first followup with them, but not personalized everyone after that. So it's still more personal than trying to just automate your entire sales funnel. Use of a Virtual Assistant. Jake has a virtual assistant who prepares call briefs every day for him and so he doesn’t have to research any other projects ahead of time or to find them in the CRM. He just gets an email every day with the websites, LinkedIn profiles, CRM links for all his calls for that day and saves time probably 30 minutes a day.Creating Systems for Virtual Assistants (~21:30) You have to look for the low hanging fruit first or the biggest burden and the biggest pain. Find out how much time would a task save you if you hand it over. Write an SOP or Standard Operating Procedure. Jake blocks out a morning to spend an hour to document while he does the task, he’ll go through it and do the process himself again, write down instructions and take screenshots along the way and normally puts it in a Goole Doc. It’s useful to schedule an hour call to walk your VA through it, send them the document, and have them read it prior to the call. Then do one, show them how it’s done, then shadow them after and let them work on their own. Have your VA ping you for any questions.Actionable Tips To Get Started With LinkedIn Sales (~24:30) Drive traffic to your LinkedIn profile using Dux Soup Send outbound connection requests on LinkedIn, by sending connection requests on a daily basis using Sales Navigator so you can do a higher volume. Don’t do this without Sales Navigator or you might trip their limits. After you send like 100 connection requests per day to your target customers, when they accept, ask them a question or provoke a conversation around your business in some capacity or what you are offering.Check Out: Lead Cookie’s Ebook for scripts, profile optimization tips, and everything else to get started!Jake’s Book Recommendation
Google Chrome Extensions What Google Chrome Extensions Do You Use? Today I will give you a quick overview of what Google Chrome Extensions I use on my day to day operations. As an Amazon seller, I have a ton of Amazon Google Chrome Extensions, so I will not go through all of them, only the most used or the most relevant. In alphabetical order: Adblock for Youtube™ - this is an extension that will allow me to watch Youtube videos without ads. I often get targeted by Tai Lopez, Russell Brunssen, Tim Ferris and most of all from Alex Becker AMZFire Review to Order - This is (I think ) the only working extension to tell you who left you a review on Amazon. I use this often to see who left me a bad review and try to contact them to fix their problem and hopefully get them to change their mind, without asking them. AMZfire Search Terms on Steroids - The perfect extension to track your backend keywords on the Amazon seller account while creating listings. It tracks the number of characters used since we are limited to 250 characters on the backend keywords. It also tracks if you are using repeated keywords on the title and backends, and bullet points and backend Be Limitless - An extension that tracks the amount of time I spend on each site and on each page, also keeps track of goals. Dux-Soup for LinkedIn - I have this LinkedIn extension disabled and I don't recommend it to anyone Facebook Pixel Helper - A must have for any online advertiser. This will tell you every site in the world if they have a Facebook pixel tracker installed, and what they are tracking on each page. I also use this one to make sure my own pixels are installed properly and working Grammarly for Chrome - The Lifesaver. This is the extension that corrects all my grammar mistakes ( It actually already fixed 16 errors so far in this text) Jungle Scout Pro - This is a paid tool that most if not all Amazon Sellers need or use. This will tell me how many sells every product has per month on Amazon, the fees, the size and weight Keepa - Amazon Price Tracker - The tool to use on Amazon to tell me the price history of each product and for how long it's being sold KW Index Checker - Just like the name says, this is a tool I use to see how many keywords are indexed on Amazon listing, and if they are not indexed for some reason, I will change the position LastPass: Free Password Manager - A great password manager that you can use to allow other into your accounts without giving them the password for each account The Great Suspender - Something I recommend to every single person who uses a laptop or computer to work. This extension will suspend every resource you are not using so you can use the full potential of the laptop TubeBuddy for YouTube - A great tool for youtubers or for the person that wants to post a random video on Youtube and be on the top of the search results. This will tell you how easy it is to index for each keyword you want, and it even recommends new keywords, tags and tells you what you need to do to get to the top

Welcome to episode 132, I’m busy with training & speaking engagements this week so I pre-recorded this episode. Therefore if any big news has recently broken, I won’t be covering it till next week! You may recall in episode 79 I interviewed the founders of an interesting product called Autopilot about their Chrome extension that automatically viewed LinkedIn profiles. As I have mentioned in recent episodes, I have experienced several issues with Autopilot recently and really didn’t feel that it was a product that I could continue to recommend. I still believe autoviewing is a valuable and a potentially highly productive action on LinkedIn so I set about finding an alternative product to recommend. What is Autoviewing? Autoviewing is a simple task conducted via a browser (normally Google Chrome) extension. Once the extension is installed you are able to ask it to view a list of profiles from a search result on LinkedIn. Autoviewing extensions are ostensibly bots, i.e. a software application that runs automated tasks (scripts) over the Internet. Typically, bots perform tasks that are both simple and structurally repetitive, at a much higher rate than would be possible for a human alone. As a free LinkedIn member you are currently only able to view 150 profiles per day** whereas a premium member (Business Plus, Executive, Sales Navigator, Recruiter lite & Recruiter Professional) you can view up to 1000 a day* *These numbers are subject to change at any time ** A LinkedIn ‘day’ is from 5pm to 5pm EST or By the nature of autoviewing, it’s a numbers game so to get impressive results, you really need one of the above premium accounts. Why do it? LinkedIn’s most popular feature is ‘Who’s viewed your profile’. On average 8-12% of people viewed will view your profile in return, this figure can be much higher if you view people that are known to be more active (possible with Sales Navigator). So viewing hundreds of profiles in a day will lead to gaining a high number of profile views which raises your profile, increases the number of invitations to connect you receive and may even help to win you business. In addition, this high level of activity can have a positive effect on how the algorithm views you, i.e. you appear to become more ‘interesting’ and this can have a positive knock on effect to other areas of LinkedIn. The effectiveness of autoviewing is significantly improved with; A strong profile, with a good headshot and clear, compelling headline Viewing targeted (not random) search results, appropriate to your objectives. Do LinkedIn Allow it? I have never seen a quote from LinkedIn that expressly bans the use of autoviewing extensions but I think it’s fair to say that by using them you are in breach of the user agreement. Here’s what the user agreement has to say about the use of bots; This however, does not mean it’s wrong. The definition of ‘wrong’ is entirely up to you - it’s a personal decision. I personally think that viewing profiles is a harmless activity whereas I believe that sending automated messages, skill endorsements and invitations is spam and therefore, ethically crosses the line. LinkedIn has limits on the number of profiles you can view and this is subject to change so it is essential that the company you purchase an autoviewing product from is completely on ‘top of their game’ in this respect. Whilst LinkedIn do not openly approve of autoviewing, it’s also pretty obvious that they benefit from it; It increases page views which helps them sell more advertising Users have to buy a LinkedIn premium account for effective autoviewing The net result is that it is very rare to hear of people running into problems with LinkedIn when they autoview - provided they stick to the guidelines which are made clear by all providers. At the end of the day, you have to make a decision on what feels right to you. As previously mentioned your ethics do not have to mirror LinkedIn’s rules! The Options I have come up with two alternative solutions, Dux-soup and eLink Pro, I like both for different reasons. I looked at a product called LinMailPro initially but it’s main features are automatic connection requests and messaging and I believe those actions to be unethical - it also Autoviews but it’s more expensive than the following two options (due to those extra features). eLink Pro Features Autoviewing of up to 800 profiles per day. Compatibility with Sales Navigator 7 day scheduler Download viewed profiles & who viewed you. Drip marketing feature. Posts motivational quotes for you. Will favourite a tweet from every applicable person you view. Semi automation of invite accept message. Adds some icons to profiles Shows number of followers in profile. Advantages Substantial business that was established in 2014, has strong backing and 20 employees providing good customer support. Scheduling feature is very useful for when you are on holiday or away from the office for a few days. Free trial for 5 days and at the time of writing they are extending that to 1 another month for $1 Disadvantages Using LinkedIn in a different tab (whilst autoviewing) sometimes causes issues. It’s expensive at $147 every 3 months or $95 per month No ‘skip’ already viewed feature. Dux-Soup Features Configurable autoviewing of up to 1500 profiles per day (not advised) Advised viewing numbers of 150/day for free LinkedIn users, 400 for Business+, 600 for Sales Navigator premium accounts Profile skip feature (skipped if viewed within the last x number of days) Google X-ray search feature (400 per day) Group members autoview Download of visited profiles (to .csv) Auto endorse skills Variable visiting speed (configurable) Re-visit based on previously downloaded CSV Notes and tagging of profiles Searching by tag Advantages Free service allows an extended trial to see benefits Tagging very useful, especially for this not on a Sales Navigator account Cost - only $15 per month for Pro version Disadvantages Small and somewhat anonymous business behind the software No scheduling Auto endorse feature encourages bad practice. Summary I have used both products extensively over the last month or so, interchanging between them regularly to make a realistic comparison. At the end of the day I think both are great and well worth considering. Dux-Soup’s greatest benefit is pricing whereas eLink pro has the useful scheduling feature and the company behind it does give me more confidence of longevity and capable customer support is something not to be sniffed at given that the reason I am looking at these products is due to Autopilot’s deficiencies in that area!
