Ahead of the 2024/25 season we're joined by Northampton Town Chairman, Kelvin Thomas to discuss the season ahead and the future of The Cobblers. Kelvin talks about the competitiveness of League One this season and how The Cobblers are going to compete with the likes of Birmingham City on and off the field. We get confirmation that Charlie Goode was considered by Jon Brady this summer, Kieron Bowie will most likely not be coming back for a third season at Sixfields and using pessimistic predictions to fuel the club's success. The East Stand of course gets a mention, along with future thoughts on improving the club's income through an increased capacity and other areas. S2E41 - For the Glory KC is back with the 48th episode of the show! (Creeping towards 50, should we do something special?) Sporting Kansas City are back in action after a long break and things (mostly) went very well in a 3-0 win over then fifth place San Jose, minus a potential injury picked up by Johnny Russell (two updates on him, one early, one in the Digital Crawl). This week's podcast was recorded in two "halves" (which is fitting because I guested on Episode 19 of another podcast, the Two Halves Soccer Podcast, this week if you want to go even deeper on Sporting KC). The first half, I continue For the Glory KC's nepotism tradition and bring on my little brother after he and I went to the SKC/San Jose Earthquakes game Saturday. We talk about our two unique angles of the game (press box versus the East Stand) and also discuss our first SKC injury update in over five weeks. Then, Sheena returns for the KC Current and Digital Crawl portion (with a little of our usual nonsense mixed in! Here is a quick rundown of topics (and approximate start times): SKC crush San Jose - 2:02 Sporting KC Injury Updates - 31:51 KC Current draw at Houston - 40:44 Digital Crawl - 49:24 Upcoming Games KC Current vs. Angel City FC - Friday, Sept 1 @ 7:00 PM CST Sporting KC vs. St. Louis City SC - Saturday, Sept 2 @ 7:30 PM SKC II @ LA Galaxy II - Sunday, Sept 3 @ 9:00 PM --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fortheglorykc/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fortheglorykc/support
Charles, Danny and Neil discuss all the major talking points from a week of big news involving Northampton Town. We chat about Kieron Bowie's return to the Cobblers and marvel at people's ability to recognise players who might be on trial with the club, from a blurry photo. In part two we delve into the result of the long awaited Judicial Review and share our thoughts on what should happen next in regards to the East Stand redevelopment. There's also news of NTFC Women's first pre-season game away at London Seaward and we dip our hands into Neil's postbag to answer your questions on the playing budget and our old friend, “stand before land”. The Taranaki Regional Council is holding its cards close to its chest ahead of an announcement on the rebuild of the East Stand at New Plymouth's Yarrow Stadium. As construction costs rise around the country, the council is signalling it is meeting next month to reconsider its plans. Our Taranaki Whanganui reporter Robin Martin reports.

In light of the recent closure of the East Stand at Belle Vue, Lee & Jamie talk through the top 10 highest attendance EVER at Belle Vue
The Simmo-lution continues to full-steam ahead as United make it three wins out of three under the returning boss to bring a little bit of breathing space to work with in the battle to avoid the drop.In the latest episode of The Brunton Bugle, Dan and Lee review the 2-1 win at Oldham at the weekend, discussing Morgan Feeney's dramatic injury time winner, the brilliant away support and the frankly, unnecessary and unsavoury chants towards former Blue Hallam Hope.We also look ahead to this weekend's back-to-back home games against Northampton Town and Newport County, including a chat with Danny from the "It's All Cobblers To Me" Northampton Town podcast. We discussed the Cobblers' so-far, so-good, attempts to make an instant return to League One, how Jack Sowerby is getting on at Sixfields and the ongoing issues with their incomplete East Stand development. On top of all that, there's a round-up on how United's players out on-loan are getting on, a catch-up on how ex-Blues have got on in the last week and another question of the week from Mike for you to have a crack at.Your host Lee Rooney is in Liverpool and is joined online by Dan MacLennan in Carlisle. James Averill provides some great insight given after his time covering the local government world as a journalist.Alex Le Guevel of Northampton's highly successful Team Shoe Box boxing gym presents a compelling case for a link up between the football club and Team Shoe Box on the athletics track land behind the East Stand to provide facilities to truly make the town proud. We also talk about the glamour tie 0-0 draw away at Scunny, to play or not to play Scott Pollock and the much fabled Player Pathway.Plus there's a discussion of the new contract for Sam Hoskins and whether he needs to assume a new Spanish identity.Out of the loop, can't be arsed to keep up with the latest at Sixfields or just wanted some level-headed Cobblers discussion? On this week's It's All Cobblers To Me Charles and Danny are getting into the Valentine's spirit and here to give your week the romance it needs. The Port Vale game may have been a dull affair but it still provided some talking points for us to get our teeth into. Are the Cobblers too defensive? Is it time for Hoskins to be dropped? Another yellow card for McWilliams leads to a ban Refereeing standards... again! There's also the news that the council have been recommended to accept the club's offer for the land out the back of the East Stand. Charles gives a summary of what's happened and what it means. We also have a selection of letters to read out in the postbag and NTFC Women are still top of the table and unbeaten! _____ Support the show If you'd like to support the show, we'd really appreciate it. A slightly different episode this week as first we join Charles at Harpole Playing Fields where NTFC Women are taking on Notts County and then we're in the pub with Charles, Neil and Fan Club member, Mike Fuller. Northampton Town WomenWhile we have been huge champions of the Cobblers' women's team for the last couple of years, we've not that often managed to get to see them play live. On Sunday, Charles popped over to Harpole to witness the team's return to league action. James Wiles provides us with a report from the game and post match interview with managers Lou and Josh. In The PubWith Christmas just days away, Charles and Neil agreed to meet up in the pub for a drink and a chat about the Cobblers with Fan Club member, Mike Fuller. While there may have been no Cobblers 1st team game this week, there's still plenty to talk about including circuit breakers, mandatory vaccinations for players and the East Stand. PostbagThis week's question comes from John Mantle who asks: When/if the east stand is developed, how will the away allocation work as obviously currently a proportion of the east is given over to away supporters. The point being, I would be interested in a box for either matches or even a season, but would not want the box behind an away following! My understanding is that boxes would run along the entire stand, maybe this won't be the case? Struggling to see how this would work, as in the 1st division, many teams would bring with them more fans that the 980 or so housed in the south stand, so would for most home games have to give up space in the new east stand. I really do think that the east stand should be completed as a much wider plan for the stadium, but sadly can't see this happening. Oddly, I'm amazed that the club don't reach out to businesses to support financially, and have naming rights for example? Also surprised that the club never seem to want to raise any capital through some sort of share supporter scheme? I'm sure other clubs have done something similar? If you've got a question for us to discuss on the podcast, send us an email to podcast@cobblerstome.com Weston Favell Food BankSales of the https://my.captivate.fm/cobblerstome.com/shop (IACTM Podcast Mug) are going really well, thank you to all who have bought one so far. It's the morning after the night before where we won an award! Welcome to Club Podcast of the Year, It's All Cobblers To Me! Don't worry, we don't go on about it too much on this episode. Only kidding, of course we do! Hear how it all went down in London Town on Monday night and just how tightly he held onto the award all the way home on the train. Northampton Town 1-0 Leyton OrientThe Cobblers saw off Kenny Jackett's Orient despite being without John Guthrie, Sean McWilliams and a first half injury to Kion Etete. Max Dyche made his full League debut at the heart of the Cobblers defence and showed some great touches and composure. While at the other end, Sam Hoskins stole in to score what turned out to be the winner. PostbagThis week's email comes from Daniel Darwood who asks about the January transfer window. Send us your thoughts and comments to podcast@cobblerstome.com Around NTFCA whopping 97.67% of the votes cast in the football club's recent poll around their plans for the East Stand were in favour of the plans. A total of 2442 votes were cast. The Women's FA Cup game at Lye Town was postponed until 5th December with the home side's pitch being frozen and therefore unplayable. NTFC's offer to play the fixture in Northampton was declined and so the two sides will have to wait a week to find out who makes it through the the 3rd round. Also this weekend, the Under 18's will face Charlton Athletic at Sixfields in the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup. Nath talks with Karl from the East Stand Podcast, about the upcoming Europa Conference League game between Flora and Shamrock Rovers
The Chelsea FanCast looks back, season by season, to 50 Years of Chelsea history from 1970 to the present day.Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Mark Meehan to look back at the 1978-79 season. The 1978-79 was an in and out season in more ways than one. Still in Division One, under the management of Ken Shellito, Chelsea were still relying on youngsters coming up from the academy. Gary Chivers, Mikey Fillery, Jonny Bumstead, Mickey Nutton, David Stride and John Sitton all got promoted to the first team.Bizarrely, Chelsea signed former Leeds and Everton maverick Duncan McKenzie, whose sole contribution to Chelsea was being pictured leaping over a Mini. A sadder return was the return of the King of Stamford Bridge, Peter ‘Ossie' Osgood, who in truth, was a shadow of the player we knew and loved. Chelsea's financial chickens had come home to roost as the disastrous overspend on the new East Stand had near bankrupted the club, while the North Stand was crumbling and was subject to a GLC safety order.Things were no better on the pitch. With only 2 wins in the first 3 months of the season, Chelsea were bottom of the league by the turn of the year.Shellito made way for Frank ‘The Tank' Upton, for one day and then Danny Blanchflower, former Spurs double winning captain and now columnist for the Sunday Express was appointed manager to the astonishment of everyone, not least the players.Blanchflower's first match in charge saw Chelsea lose 7-2 away to Middlesbrough and shortly after by a 5-1 away defeat to Ipswich and rounded off toward the end of the season with a 6-0 defeat away to Forest and a 5-2 away defeat to Arsenal. Maybe Blanchflower should have got the players train with footballs rather than imaginary ones they trained with. With 2 wins from the first 22 league games and only a further 3 wins all season, Chelsea's worst ever performance in Division One saw them relegated bottom on 20 points from 42 games. To round off a miserable season, Ray Wilkins was sold to Man Utd that summer and Peter Bonetti retired. If you've ever heard the expression “where were you when you were shit?”, the answer is the 1978-79 season. To help us celebrate 50 Years of Chelsea we've partnered with 3Retro who have a superb collection of Chelsea retro gear and are offering 10% OFF when you use the 3RETRO10 code and if you order over £50 of merch you get FREE UK delivery. The Chelsea FanCast looks back, season by season, to 50 Years of Chelsea history from 1970 to the present day.Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Clayton Beerman to look back at the 1974-75 season. The 1974-75 season proved to be an ‘annus horibilis' for Chelsea with the club getting relegated for the first time since 1962.Set against the backdrop of the opening of the new East Stand which had near bankrupted the club, the shiny new stand looked something like a white elephant as the performances on the pitch did not match the ambition of it.An inauspicious start losing 2-0 at home to newly promoted Carlisle United set the tone with no home wins until October. It was no real surprise then that Dave Sexton, Chelsea's most successful manager at that time, was sacked and replaced first by Ron Suart and eventually by Eddie McCreadie. It all boiled down to the ‘Battle of White Hart Lane' when Chelsea faced rivals and fellow relegation candidates Spurs. Chelsea lost 2-0 with a 17 year old Ray Wilkins installed as Captain in a match remembered for the Kung-Fu fighting by rival supporters. With two draws in our last two games, had Chelsea drawn against Spurs they would have avoided relegation. In truth Chelsea, with only 8 points from the last 14 games and having conceded 72 goals, the worst in the Division, could have no complaints. From here, things could only get better, but how long would it take?To help us celebrate 50 Years of Chelsea we've partnered with 3Retro who have a superb collection of Chelsea retro gear and are offering 10% OFF when you use the 3RETRO10 code and if you order over £50 of merch you get FREE UK delivery. The Chelsea FanCast looks back, season by season, to 50 Years of Chelsea history from 1970 to the present day.Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Rick Glanvill, Chelsea's official historian and author of ‘Chelsea: The Complete Record' to look back at the 1973-74 season. The downward spiral and the end of the ‘Kings of the Kings Road' team, recent FA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup winners, hastened this season. In truth, the writing had been on the wall for a season or two, but this season it came tumbling down as Peter Osgood and Alan Hudson were both transfer listed and eventually sold to Southampton and Stoke City respectively. Peter Bonetti and Tommy Baldwin were dropped, John Dempsey was on his way out and fed up with the situation at the club, David Webb wanted out too.A poor start to the season saw Chelsea soon heading toward the bottom of the table. There were injury problems and a striker problem too. Set against a backdrop of financial issues caused by the building of the new East Stand, the energy crisis in the country leading to a 3-day working week and falling crowds, Chelsea avoided relegation just. They finished 17th, one point and three places above relegation and the 3-0 win against Burnley which confirmed this was the lowest attendance since 1938 with only 8,171 in attendance. With systemic dysfunction, anarchy and chaos at Stamford Bridge, it was no surprise to see Dave Sexton, Chelsea's most successful manager at that point, relieved of his duties at the end of the season. To help us celebrate 50 Years of Chelsea we've partnered with 3Retro who have a superb collection of Chelsea retro gear and are offering 10% OFF when you use the 3RETRO10 code and if you order over £50 of merch you get FREE UK delivery. The Chelsea FanCast looks back, season by season, to 50 Years of Chelsea history from 1970 to the present day.Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Tim Rolls, author of ‘Stamford Bridge is Falling Down' to look back at the 1972-73 season. The 1972-73 season was to be a disappointing season and in hindsight the beginning of the end of the ‘Kings of the Kings Road' team, FA Cup winners just two seasons before.Inconsistent form and inconsistent team selections; a lack of goals and an alarming slump in form (1 win in 10 was the worst run under Dave Sexton at that point) culminated in Chelsea finishing in 12th position, their worst finish since 1962.Chelsea was also bedeviled by many injuries - Bonetti, Hudson, Osgood, Baldwin, Dempsey, Droy all spent time out injured and Sexton used 28 players throughout the season. To make matters worse, star player Alan Hudson put in a transfer request and there were rumours that Peter Osgood, the ‘King of Stamford Bridge' might follow suit. Sexton's mood darkened further with the shenanigans of the afternoon drinking club of Hutchinson, Osgood, Cooke, Hudson and Baldwin. All of this was set against the backdrop of the East Stand being demolished to make way for the ambitious new stadium development.Thrown in for good measure were a 4-0 thumping of rivals Leeds United; Hollywood Goddess Raquel Welch making an appearance (in the stands not the pitch!); Ossie's ‘goal of the season' against Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter final and Bobby Charlton's final match for Man Utd in Chelsea's final home game of the season.Perhaps the defining moment of the season was the defeat to Norwich in the League Cup semi-final. Having lost the final the previous season, it was 4th time in 14 months Chelsea had lost a cup tie when favourites and this would be the last major semi for 12 years - was this the end for the Kings of the Kings Road?To help us celebrate 50 Years of Chelsea we've partnered with 3Retro who have a superb collection of Chelsea retro gear and are offering 10% OFF when you use the 3RETRO10 code and if you order over £50 of merch you get FREE UK delivery. We delve in to the Chelsea FanCast Archive over the summer break and dig up some classic Chelsea FanCast’s from the past.Chelsea FanCast #43On this week’s Classic Chelsea FanCast we repeat the show originally recorded in September 2008 where Jason Cundy was our guest and tells us about his days as a player and fan!Chidge, Martin, Stu and ChelTel are joined by Chelsea Legend – Jason Cundy. Jason completes the longest ever “60 second fan” describing his best goal as the one he scored by leaping like a salmon (a tin of salmon!). We also cast our opinions on the Stoke and Pompey games, welcoming the tactical ability of Big Phil Scolari and Chelsea’s stylish play so far this season. Jason explains why Stevie Clarke had to leave Chelsea, whose hat was in the ring to replace him, and why Ray Wilkins was the ideal appointment.Chel Tel finally gets the inside story on why Jason left Chelsea for Sp*rs in 1992, without admitting that it was he who wrote “Bring Back Cundy!” on the East Stand wall. Jason gives us the low down on what it was like rising from the massed ranks of the Shed End as a supporter to being a fans favourite on the pitch. In “Tales from the Shed”, Chel Tel springs a surprise on Jason by producing a programme from the pre-season game against the mighty Somersham Town in 1987. After 21 years, Jason finally signs the programme! In “You’re on CFFC”, we hear from Chris Larwood who tells us about the struggle to watch Chelsea down under, aided by looking for the Celery nailed to a mates front door!!Banter, biased opinion, beer and Jason Cundy – what else could a true blue wish for?? Our podcast host, James Dickson, recently filmed at the home of Crucial FX and its Origin experience. Here, he was joined by Nils Braude, the director of catering, conferences and events at Twickenham Stadium where the brand-new East Stand opened in Autumn 2018. Twickenham is the largest dedicated rugby union venue in the world and, due to the new “bolt-on”, now seats 8,500 people. Aside from hosting rugby matches, the stadium is also the venue for: music gigs, Christmas parties, corporate events, exhibitions, meetings and summer parties. The new stand was a huge undertaking that covered five floors and took the capacity of the stadium from 4,500 to 8,500. The whole footprint and floor space of the building was extended with the addition of two new floors and the addition of 3,000 hospitality covers. Describing the consultation process, Nils explained the stadium used a “collaborative approach” with its principal sales partners, Compass Group, RFU and Keith Prowse. They drew inspiration from similar-sized venues and researched the “rugby-goer” to create ideas that would fall in line with their budget. Nils went on to describe the flexibility of the stadium: the majority of the days at Twickenham aren’t match-days so the new stand needed to be adaptable to ensure it can be used for other events, both professional and personal. For this reason, it was designed with “dividable” rooms – a room may be used for a seated conference for 1,000 people one day, and a food area for 100 people the next. Progressing from the traditional round, covered tables with the usual three-course meal, Twickenham now boasts a variety of options from interactive street food to five-course Michelin star-styled taster meals. Again, this was to add to the stadium’s offering, ensuring events of all sizes and styles could be catered for. Touching on the customer experience, Nils explained that the external areas were also developed to become much more “fan-friendly”, allow visitors’ experience to start sooner and bring people to the stadium earlier. With the East Stand being essentially a huge extension, it was possible to shut it off from the rest of the stadium during its 18-month construction. This was “advantageous” to keeping the stadium open for business without negatively impacting other events.

A Game Of Two Halves: Hailing football's one-club men and fencing's Singaporean starlet Amita Berthier Time: 14:22 mins Synopsis: A Game of Two Halves is The Straits Times' sports podcast that is out every Tuesday. Liverpool lost their place at the top of the English Premier League after a goalless draw with Everton over the weekend, but it is not the Merseyside Derby, or even Manchester United's drama-filled 3-2 win over Southampton that caught ST assistant sports editor Rohit Brijnath's attention. Instead, he tells host Sazali Abdul Aziz why he found another occasion special instead. It was when almost 60,000 supporters rose to their feet at London Stadium in celebration of West Ham United legend Billy Bonds, as the East Stand was renamed in the icon's honour ahead of their weekend game with Newcastle. "On 14 April 1937, the BBC studios at Alexandra Palace played host to the first television demonstration of snooker, an exhibition of play by Horace Lindrum and Willie Smith. The programme lasted 10 minutes, whereupon it made way for Daffodils (“a display of various types of daffodils from the Daffodil Show” — Radio Times). Another couple of months down the line, and the BBC were off to Wimbledon for the first time. And then, on Thursday 16 September, it was the turn of football, and the world’s first live televised match. "The game had admittedly limited appeal — George Allison’s Arsenal were taking on Arsenal reserves at Highbury — but then only a few hundred houses close to Ally Pally in north London could receive BBC pictures anyway. Arsenal were the natural choice for the BBC’s experiment anyway: Highbury was the closest ground to Ally Pally and had a bespoke gantry for telly cameras in its fancy new East Stand."
