Hvordan opplevde hun 5 km under PB Milå?

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for May 22, 2024 is: belie bih-LYE verb To belie something is to give a false idea or impression of it. Belie can also mean "to show (something) to be false or wrong." // Martin's easy banter and relaxed attitude belied his nervousness. // Their actions belie their claim of innocence. See the entry > Examples: "But his humble presence belies the adventurous life that brought him through World War II and multiple attempts at sailing around the world." — Alejandra Garcia, The Sacramento (California) Bee, 21 Dec. 2020 Did you know? "What is a lie?" asks Lord Byron in Don Juan. He then answers himself: "'Tis but the truth in masquerade...." The history of belie illustrates a certain connection between lying and masquerading as something other than one is. In Old English, belie meant "to deceive by lying," but in time, it came to mean "to tell lies about," taking on a sense similar to that of the modern word slander. Eventually, its meaning softened, shifting from an act of outright lying to one of mere misrepresentation; by the 1700s, the word was being used in the sense "to disguise or conceal." Nowadays, belie is typically applied when someone or something gives an impression that is in disagreement with the facts, rather than in contexts where there is an intentional untruth. A happy face put on to set others at ease, for example, may belie an internal disgruntlement.

For decades, North American Black women have been using hair relaxers to help them fit into mainstream workplaces and the European standards of beauty that continue to dominate them. More recently, research has linked these relaxers to cancer and reproductive health issues - and a spate of lawsuits across the United States, and at least one in Canada, have been brought by Black women against the makers of these relaxants. Cheryl Thompson, a professor at Toronto Metropolitan University and author of "Beauty in a Box: Detangling the Roots of Canada's Black Beauty Culture," joins Vinita to untangle the complicated history Black women like herself have with hair relaxants - and where these lawsuits might lead.
Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for September 24, 2023 is: lionize LYE-uh-nyze verb To lionize someone is to treat them as a person of great interest or importance. // While her name was not attached to her books in her lifetime (she published anonymously), Jane Austen continues two centuries hence to be lionized as one of the English language's greatest novelists. See the entry > Examples: “What I love about this memoir, which won the National Book Award for Nonfiction in 2019, is its incredible sense of place. [Sarah M.] Broom's story is submerged in one of the most lionized—and complex—cities in America: New Orleans. More specifically, she focuses on New Orleans East and the yellow shotgun house that the author's steadfast mother, Ivory Mae, bought in 1961, and where Broom grew up as the youngest of 12 siblings.” — Isaac Fitzgerald, The Atlantic, 10 Aug. 2022 Did you know? Across time and across cultures—as evidenced from Chauvet-Pont d'Arc's paintings to The Lion King—lions have captured people's imaginations. Though the big cats themselves are fascinatingly complex, it's perhaps no surprise that humans have long projected qualities of bravery and regality upon the proverbial “king of the beasts.” It is precisely those and similar admirable qualities that led, in the 18th century, to lion being used for a person who is similarly well-regarded, especially after a long and distinguished career in a particular field, as in “lion of the Senate,” or “literary lion.” This sense of lion imbues the verb lionize, which first appeared in English in the early 19th century to apply to acts of treating someone as, perhaps, deserving of roaring applause.

If you're in an area that is facing a drought this summer, like I am, you might be thinking of ways to combat it in the garden. Enter the rain barrel! Home gardeners often use rain barrels to collect rainwater from roofs as a supplement to summer irrigation. Rainwater is a natural and unchlorinated water source for plants, but rooftop runoff can be contaminated by chemical and biological pollutants. Today we talk about the practicality of rain barrels, possible contaminants and where they come from, and how to safely use rain barrel water in the garden. Let's dig in! Happy Healthy Wifey's Handmade Soap Making ClassOverview: Soap is made by mixing fats and oils with lye between 110-120 degrees. Step One: Figure out your measurements of fats, oils, lye, and water. This is for a double batch where each single batch of soap should have 32 oz of fats/oils. Lard: 40 Oz. multiplied by Lye ratio of .138 = 5.52Olive Oil: 24 Oz. multiplied by Lye ratio of .133 = 3.192---------- (Which we rounded to 8.7) Lye = 8.712Each batch of soap is equal to 12 oz of water. For our class, we did double batches so we used 24 oz of water. Step Two:Mix the Lye with the water. The water will warm up to 180 degrees. Only sprinkle Lye on top of the water slowly while mixing. Step Three: Warm up the fats mixed into a pot until they are liquid and dissolved together. Step Four: Mix the lye water mixture with the fats when BOTH measure close between 110-120 degrees. Step Five:Blend the mixture until it becomes thick enough to watch lines form when your move your blender. Add your scents and pour into the mold.

Diane & Rick address Carolina's email about her hateful ex-husband, who is remarried with a new baby five years after the divorce - but still has a major axe to grind with her even though she is trying to include him in major decisions. Here is more info on the subject: Functioning of the primary residential parent is important. According to Lye (1999), “Children of divorce do better when the well-being of the primary residential parent is high. Primary residential parents who are experiencing psychological, emotional, social, economic, or health difficulties may transfer these difficulties to their children and are often less able to parent effectively.” However, she also found that well-being improves with time since the divorce. According to Furstenberg & Cherlin (1991), “It is likely that a child who alternates between the homes of a distraught mother and an angry father will be more troubled than a child who lives with a mother who is coping well and who once a fortnight sees a father who has disengaged from his family.” Further, Johnston (1995) said that “Joint custody is especially harmful when one of the parents is abusive, rigid, manipulative, or angry that he [or she] is divorced.” Kelly and Emory (2003), in their research review article, conclude that “When custodial parents provide warmth, emotional support, adequate monitoring, discipline authoritatively, and maintain age-appropriate expectations, children and adolescents experience positive adjustment compared with children whose divorced custodial parents are inattentive, less supportive, and use coercive discipline.” Furstenberg, F.F., Jr., & Cherlin, A.J. Leo, Mike, and Andrew talk about burnout in education, Learn YOUR English beginnings, their journey, and how teachers can overcome obstacles. Drawing parallels from stories presented in Malcolm Gladwell's David and Goliath - the beginning of French impressionism, why going to Harvard isn't necessarily an advantage, Ikea's controversial founding and more - they tackle how successful teaching businesses emerge from seeing advantages in disadvantages. Specifically, they discuss: creating non-obvious solutions to obvious problems how to follow the path of most resistance why French impressionists decided to be big fish in a small pond Ikea as an example of the five-factor psychological model of successful enterprises delaying gratification as one of the most important tools for a teacherpreneur how to exercise the idea muscle why becoming the person you want to be means challenging the person you currently are Read more about this episode on the LYE blog.
