I, Excretus (Star Trek: Lower Decks, S2 E8) was recommended by Chief Engineer Greg, who said: Going mildly mad with power, I wanted to suggest an episode myself. The first time I saw a Lower Decks cosplay, it was a Boimler and a Shaxs together. I had just started watching the show and conventions were beginning to come back in the post-Covid environment. And seeing a Boimler covered in Borg babies was such a delight to see. Lower Decks is the show made of deep cuts to obscure bits of Star Trek lore (Borg Maturation chambers) and also send up of the Franchise. This show is steeped in love for how silly the franchise is, while never getting jaded about it, and even fighting against the more jaded elements you can see when you get too close. This is an episode that openly admits to the workaholism of the Federation and uses it to great effect. It causes the trainer to break down because everyone gets perfect scores, yet Boimler's striving for that perfection. To paraphrase Homer Simpson, "Workahol. The cause of, and solution to, all life's problems."I, Excretus first aired on September 30, 2021, written by Ann Kim, and directed by Kim ArndtA consultant arrives on the U.S.S. LADIES BE SCHEMING! Billups' mother has been trying to trick her son into losing his virginity so that he can leave Starfleet and take his place on his home world's throne. Meanwhile, a consultant contrives for the Cerritos crew to fail a series of tests to boost her status. Two very funny episodes for this month's animated spotlight, but will Bryan and Katie Hampton from Napping Through Happy Hour podcast TREK, MARRY, or KILL them?"I, Excretus" begins at (51:31).
We've been Borged! Oh no! Specifically, we've been I, Borged as each of today's Borg-themed episodes are based in some way around Hugh Borg. I don't think Borg's his surname, but I don't recall hearing any other name for him. First up is I, Borg from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Crusher and LaForge have a new pet and it's a deadly Borg! A traumatised Picard's eager to use him to do a genocide and Guinan's with him. Oh no! Second we have Star Trek: Lower Decks' I, Excretus where attempts to perfect a Holodeck trial lead to Boimler getting a bit too close to the Borg and some fun, awful scenarios which happen when Upper and Lower Decks have to swap. Finally there's Picard's Impossible Box, which turns out to be both a Borg Cube used for rehab and a puzzle box that a weird hot Romulan uses for meditation when he's not getting way too close to his sister. Picard has a nice reunion with Hugh and there's a Lord of the Rings Elf who's there for some reason. 09:28 Star Trek: The Next Generation “I, Borg” 37:38 Star Trek: Lower Decks “I, Excretus” 59:44 Picard “The Impossible Box” Pedant's Corner: Charlie is going to have to recap Star Trek: Nemesis Alice Krige's surname is pronounced “Kree-Guh” Talking points include: Battle Angel Alita, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Reanna being cancer free, Berserk, Joe Abercrombie, James Barclay, Elric, Picard would make a great Number Two in The Prisoner, Visionaries, X-Men: Fatal Attraction, Batman hologram trading cards, Matlock Bath's Hologram Museum, Star Wars: Dark Droids, Whoopi Goldberg would make a great Doctor Who, a poop joke, Nemesis of the Pod Ed Sheeran, Funny Games, James VanDerBeek, not forgiving people for reminding us that Young Sheldon exists, mocking Geoff Johns' career again, crowbarring The Legion of Super-Heroes into a recap, pesto, Grant Morrison, The X-Men's Sentient Danger Room, being tired old men, Bond themes, Miles' issues with James Bond, Alan Partridge, Orbital's The Box, Evil Goth Merlin from the TV Show Merlin, Elnor is an elf ranger, Elnor has taken a level in rogue, Elnor has only seen the Lord of the Rings movies (probably not even the extended versions), Elnor saw the 90's Three Musketeers or the Paul Anderson one, Rifts (Charlie will never run Rifts), JJ Abrams naming, weird incest siblings, Penny Dreadful, a weird The Cube room.

When loveable middle-class white lady Sue Brockman (Claire Skinner) loses her husband Pete (Hugh Dennis) after his plane goes missing over the English Channel, she decides to withhold that information from her children (Tyger Drew-Honey, Daniel Roche and Ramona Marquez), because she is afraid it might ruin their Christmas (which it totally would). But her world is soon turned upside-down by a mysterious stranger (a very young Prince Philip in his first television role), who beguiles the children with hot and cold running lemonade before whisking them off to an extraterrestrial forest which is about to have massive vats of acid dumped on it. Meanwhile, surprisingly, obnoxiously messianic lion Aslan (Liam Neeson) is nowhere to be found. Mark McManus and Pete Lambert guest star. It's The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. Notes and Links Here's The Young Ones parodying The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Claire Skinner also started in the Outnumbered Christmas Special The Broken Santa in 2011, which was watched by 8.47 million people. (This episode of Doctor Who was watched by 10.77 million viewers. So take that, Claire.) Bill Bailey, who plays Droxil in this episode, admits publicly that he is a massive Doctor Who fan, which we think is terribly brave. Here he is playing the Doctor Who theme reimagined as Belgian jazz. You really need to watch it. Arabella Weir starred as the Doctor in a Big Finish audio story called Exile, part of its Doctor Who Unbound series. Pete was not impressed. Wizards vs Aliens was created by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford in 2012, in a way to replace The Sarah Jane Adventures after the death of Lis Sladen. Its second episode, Grazlax Attacks, was a hilarious rip-off of Gremlins (1984). And finally, the prequel scene to this episode was included in the DVD and Blu-ray releases of Doctor Who Series 7 in both the US and UK. Star Trek: Lower Decks, Series 2, Episode 8. First broadcast on Thursday, 30 September 2021. It's Star Trek's most terrifying crew evaluation since Coming of Age: the crew of the USS Cerritos confront a ridiculous alien from Star Trek: The Animated Series, the Terran Empire, medical ethics, an unconvincing Old West set on the Paramount lot, the plot of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the Borg, complex strings of water molecules which acquire carbon from the body and act on the brain like alcohol, hexagonal crates in the cargo bay, and the plot of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. But more than anything, they confront the need to work together and respect each other. Because this is — and of course it is — Star Trek.

On the day of William Shatner's launch into space aboard a Blue Origin rocket, Kevin and Mike discuss the implications of Captain Kirk's sub-orbital adventure. Is this merely a high-flying joyride for billionaires and the cultural elite? Or is this the beginning of more broadly accessible space flight and an expression of deep human longings? Is it perhaps a bit of both? And since we were off last week, we also discuss the past two episodes of Star Trek: Lower Decks: Season 2, Episode 8, "I Excretus," and Season 2, Episode 9, "wej Duj." These episodes offer some of the best moments of the series, while also including some controversial elements as well. This week, Mike and Johnson shared their unbridled enthusiasm for "I, Excretus," which they both think might be the best Lower Decks episode of the entire season. This episode has us hanging out with both the lower and upper deckers, while they try to put themselves in each others' shoes - and isn't it about time that someone gave Boimler a promotion? We also chat briefly about the first novel in the Star Trek: Coda trilogy, Moments Asunder. Mike thinks that it might be the most exciting line-up of Star Trek novels since Destiny, while Johnson has only started to crack open the first book.
