Assimilation (Star Trek: Picard, S2 E3) was recommended by Hauke he/him, who said: While it's very hard to pull out individual episodes of Picard (especially the first two seasons) on my current rewatch this one stood out to me.Having narrowly escaped the horrible Confederation of the alternate 2400, the crew travels back to 2024 to correct the timeline. “Let's see what has been lost in the wake of your fear” Q whispers to Picard again as they jump to the past.Assimilation sets up the character arcs for the rest of the season.Raffi is racked with guilt and anger for Elnor's death early in the episode.Seven, gets to experience not being met with fear since the timeline hop means she was never assimilated.Rios immediately gets into some good trouble meeting the charming doctor Teresa. And Jurati, still racked with guilt over killing Maddox in season one is doing something difficult and dangerous: impressing the Borg Queen (played in this iteration by the magnetic Anne Wershing who sadly passed away in early 2023).Fear, Hope, guilt, forgiveness. Picard season two is about all these things, deeply personal to both Picard and Stewart, and it doesn't get enough credit.“ Move backward to go forward. Shatter to mend. The past is now.”Assimilation first aired on March 17, 2022, written by Kiley Rossetter & Christopher Monfette, and directed by Lea ThompsonSeven distracts the Magistrate long enough for the group to overpower and kill him and his officers. The ship comes under attack, and the Queen takes advantage of the situation to directly connect herself to the ship's computers. She destroys their pursuers and slingshots the ship around the sun, creating a wormhole to 2024. She tells Picard that they must find "The Watcher" in Los Angeles who knows what Q changed to cause the new timeline. The ship crashes near Chateau Picard in France, and the Queen diverts all power to sustain herself. Elnor dies of his wounds, and Raffi angrily blames Picard before departing with Seven and Rios to start searching for the Watcher. Rios's transporter malfunctions and he is knocked out, waking up in a clinic that secretly treats undocumented immigrants. Before he can leave, immigration officers raid the clinic and arrest both Rios and his physician, Teresa. Rios's communicator is left behind. Despite Picard's warnings, Agnes connects her mind to the Queen and learns the exact location of the Watcher before she can be assimilated, impressing the Queen. The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

Star Trek: Picard, Series 1, Episode 4. First broadcast on Thursday 13 February 2020. It's been thirty-five years since the Romulans turned up again out of the blue, but now we couldn't imagine a day without them. And so many of them! Narek and Narissa, two English Romulan Game of Thrones fans who are trying to kill Data's (remaining) daughter. Zani, a stunningly calm and beautiful Romulan Sincerity Nun. Her ward Elnor, an adorably elfin Romulan Truth Ninja from Melbourne. And a whole angry mob of hot refugee Romulans bearing a justified grudge against Picard for making a loud moral stand while failing to actually help them in any way. And Rios, Agnes and Raffi are here too of course, in a transitional episode that gives us the chance to talk about where Picard goes wrong, and what it still manages to do very well.

Casual Trek - A Star Trek Recap and Ranking Podcast

SHOW NOTES: It's the fiftieth numbered episode! Do our brave and casual explorers want to do something special? Do they want to drastically alter the podcast's format and mission statement (Miles is still holding out for #blakesboys), not particually, but they're interested in when Star Trek's done it! Join them as they finally talk about Star Trek The Original Series' second attempt at securing a series as we meet Captain James R. Kirk as he goes ‘Where No-Man Has Gone Before' and proceeds to meet our first Godlike being who needs a swift beating. Then, in Discovery's ‘That Hope is You Part 1' we heard into the 32nd Century, but discover that Star Wars-style wretched hives of scum and villainy still exist, but we finally get a chance to make the Ship's Cat actually pull his weight around here. Finally to round it all off, we watch ‘Star Trek: Picard's' second season opener ‘The Stargazer', and even technical problems with the call can't stop us from realising that the show has some problems with repeating itself. Will there be drastic podcast changes in the future? If Miles doesn't stop trying to make #blakesboys a thing, possibly! Episodes talked about: ‘Where No-Man Has Gone Before' (13:10), ‘That Hope is You- Part 1,'(41:11) and ‘The Stargazer.'TECHNICAL NOTES: We have a escalating series of technical issues during both the ‘Discovery' and ‘Picard' portions of the episode, we did our best to put together what we could and we apologize for the inconvenience. TALKING POINTS INCLUDE: The New-52, the UNIT era of Doctor Who, first world aspiring writer problems, The Dark Knight Returns, Miles feels like he makes a point and Charlie utterly proves him wrong (this is Miles writing the notes), Severance, Miles getting two entirely different shows mixed up, Miles does NOT want the Confederacy marching up his road, Gary Mitchell and Kelso, we hardly knew ya, where ‘The Cage' and ‘No-Man' are different and where does one work over the other, Kirk's stunt-double, defeating gods with a humble f*****g boulder to their entire body, the different uniforms, Roddenberry's horny casting premises, Spock's shouting again, Big Kirk Nerd, we go on a pretty lengthy digression about Star Wars… for some reason that's totally unrelated to the episode of Discovery, never apply a Star Trek solution to a Babylon 5 problem, Miles makes a reference to ‘Blake's 7' that he feels is utterly valid, Michael Burnham getting to change and evolve, Book, Grudge and the Ship's Cat list, Covid-era SFX, the moment that makes both Miles and Charlie tear up, how Discovery advances the technology of Star Trek and how difficult it is on SF TV to make the far-future believable while not being silly, We Don't Talk About Bruno and a quick digression into Disney films, people wanting to ride Admiral Picard's Sexy Bald Head, Picard really shouldn't be having a midlife crisis in his 90s, Star Trek Captains just don't do personal lives, where Season 2 and Season 3 of Picard really have some noticeable similarities, Charlie still doesn't care for Elnor, John DeLancie is always a delight, there's a lot of smoking weirdness in Picard, we do actually like stuff about Picard honest, honest, honest, awkward personal drama on the Bridge, would Picard smoke a pipe? Secret +2! PEDANT'S CORNER: Eastenders isn't a sitcom, it's a soap opera that makes Game of Thrones look like the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. Severance and Succession are two different shows MILES

We've been Borged! Oh no! Specifically, we've been I, Borged as each of today's Borg-themed episodes are based in some way around Hugh Borg. I don't think Borg's his surname, but I don't recall hearing any other name for him. First up is I, Borg from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Crusher and LaForge have a new pet and it's a deadly Borg! A traumatised Picard's eager to use him to do a genocide and Guinan's with him. Oh no! Second we have Star Trek: Lower Decks' I, Excretus where attempts to perfect a Holodeck trial lead to Boimler getting a bit too close to the Borg and some fun, awful scenarios which happen when Upper and Lower Decks have to swap. Finally there's Picard's Impossible Box, which turns out to be both a Borg Cube used for rehab and a puzzle box that a weird hot Romulan uses for meditation when he's not getting way too close to his sister. Picard has a nice reunion with Hugh and there's a Lord of the Rings Elf who's there for some reason. 09:28 Star Trek: The Next Generation “I, Borg” 37:38 Star Trek: Lower Decks “I, Excretus” 59:44 Picard “The Impossible Box” Pedant's Corner: Charlie is going to have to recap Star Trek: Nemesis Alice Krige's surname is pronounced “Kree-Guh” Talking points include: Battle Angel Alita, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Reanna being cancer free, Berserk, Joe Abercrombie, James Barclay, Elric, Picard would make a great Number Two in The Prisoner, Visionaries, X-Men: Fatal Attraction, Batman hologram trading cards, Matlock Bath's Hologram Museum, Star Wars: Dark Droids, Whoopi Goldberg would make a great Doctor Who, a poop joke, Nemesis of the Pod Ed Sheeran, Funny Games, James VanDerBeek, not forgiving people for reminding us that Young Sheldon exists, mocking Geoff Johns' career again, crowbarring The Legion of Super-Heroes into a recap, pesto, Grant Morrison, The X-Men's Sentient Danger Room, being tired old men, Bond themes, Miles' issues with James Bond, Alan Partridge, Orbital's The Box, Evil Goth Merlin from the TV Show Merlin, Elnor is an elf ranger, Elnor has taken a level in rogue, Elnor has only seen the Lord of the Rings movies (probably not even the extended versions), Elnor saw the 90's Three Musketeers or the Paul Anderson one, Rifts (Charlie will never run Rifts), JJ Abrams naming, weird incest siblings, Penny Dreadful, a weird The Cube room. We are back for another finale as we discuss Star Trek Picard Season 2 Episode 10 Farewell as the band complete their mission in 2024. Star Trek Picard Season 2 Episode 10 Podcast Synopsis Executive Producers: Michael Chabon & Kirsten Beyer & Akiva Goldsman & Alex Kurtzman Episode Written by: Akiva Goldsman and Christopher Monfette Episode Directed By: Michael Weaver With time ticking down to the launch of the Europa Mission, Tallinn interprets the Borg Queen's message to mean that a sacrifice is required to save Renee. Despite Picard's protests, Tallinn uses a holographic disguise to thwart Soong's murder attempt on René. Tallinn is successful but dies in Picard's arms while Renée departs on the Europa mission. Meanwhile Rafi, Seven and Rios take out Soong's back up plan to cancel the Europa Mission using his drones. After his failure, Soong returns home to find that Kore has deleted his digital files of his research, destroying his life's work, but he still retains a physical back-up with the file, labeled "Project Khan". Kore, following an unexpected message about what is next, meets with a Traveler formerly known as Wesley Crusher and is recruited to join the Travelers to Watch and Observe, as she picks a path for herself that will place her in danger. With the Europa Mission safe, Rafi, Rios, and Seven are believed to be stranded in the past, but Q arrives to speak to his friend Picard about the trial. Its purpose was for Picard to accept the past, his fate as the Jean Luc he is so that he can forgive the past and accept the love that is in his life. Q then uses the last of his power to send Picard, Seven, and Raffi back to the Stargazer in their own timeline, where Elnor is alive. Rios decides to stay in the past with Teresa. On the Stargazer, with the self-destruct ticking down, Picard recognizes that this Borg Queen is Agnes, whose collective has detected the disruption in space. Canceling the self-destruct, the Borg and Federation join forces and shields to stop a system-wide destructive event from the tear in space. Succeeding a new trans-warp conduit is revealed, part of a puzzle that is linked to a threat. Borgatti is unsure of what threat is on the other side, and offers to monitor the conduit in return for provisional membership of the Federation. Back on earth, after reuniting with the older Guinan and learning about Rios's life in the 21st century, Picard returns to his chateau and asks Laris for a second chance. Ok, well the Borg-queen/Jurati has absconded with the ship and Picard et al are stuck in the past. But the past still needs saving. Renee Picard needs to go on the Europa mission and Adam Soong is still out there trying to stop it from happening.   Thus begins a desperate play to ensure Renee's safety and foil Soong's plans as best the team can. IF they wrap that up, there is only the issue of Soong's final daughter/experiment Kore still on the lam and... Q, i guess?! Also all the many ways that the team has screwed with the timeline. And, finally, how or if they'll ever get home? Also, it would be nice if Elnor wasn't dead. We really liked him.   Is there any way to wrap ALL this up in a single episode?! Well. “Hide and Seek” On a stormy night in France, storylines converge as Jean-Luc relives the events leading up to his mother's death and faces what really happened. Seven and Raffi also face death as the Borg Queen takes the La Sirena, but are spared as the power of Agnes overtakes that of the Queen and leads to a new, more compassionate future for the Collective. Soong is also in on the action as Brent Spiner once again leads a group of Borg, and Elnor finds another chance for some screen time despite being dead. In this episode of The Artificial Tango, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing discuss “Hide and Seek,” the penultimate episode of Star Trek: Picard Season 2. We talk about the revelation of what really happened to Yvette Picard, what the merging of Jurati and the Queen means for the future of the Borg, how the story of Rios and Teresa may play out, and Elnor's latest encounter with Raffi. We also speculate on the roles Soong and Q may play in the finale and what is meant by two Renées. And, through it all, we discuss how this dark episode brings a glimmer of hope. Another penultimate episode as we discuss Star Trek Picard Season 2 Episode 9 Hide And Seek in our latest spoiler filled chat podcast. Star Trek Picard Season 2 Episode 9 Podcast Synopsis Executive Producers: Michael Chabon & Kirsten Beyer & Akiva Goldsman & Alex Kurtzman Episode Written by: Matthew Okumura and Christ Derrick Episode Directed By: Michael Weaver The Borg Queen, Soong, and the drones beam to La Sirena while Picard, Tallinn, Raffi, and Seven beam to Chateau Picard and are joined by Rafi, Teresa and Ricardo who have escaped La Sirena. Surrounded by drones the group are pinned down. In the gun fight Rios is injured and is transported along with Teresa, and her son to safety at Tallinn's apartment. Agnes's consciousness blocks the Queen from the ship's systems and stalls her using a fractal lock in the form of an Elnor security hologram. Having split up to get to La Sirena, Seven and Raffi arrive at the ship and try to use the ship against the Queen, but she mortally wounds Seven. Meanwhile back in the chateau Picard and Tallinn escape from Soong and the drones in the tunnels beneath the house. Picard recalls his mother having a mental break while they were playing hide-and-seek in the tunnels when he was a boy, after which she ended her own life. Discussing this with Tallinn helps Picard come to terms with it. But Soong catches up with him and corners them in the conservatory where Piicard's mother killed herself, but Rios beams back and forces him to flee. Back in La Sirena, with Seven bleeding out, Agnes pleads with the Borg Queen to save Seven, to have compassion. Agnes convinces her to build a new more resilient Borg collective through salvation rather than assimilation, to truly become a new Borg Queen. The new Queen heals Seven by adding her to the collective, and then departs in La Sirena for the Delta Quadrant, leaving a message for Picard: there must be two versions of Renée, one who will fly the Europa mission and one who will die How We Discuss Star Trek Picard. And we're back with a brand new season of Picard!    Meet Jean-Luc. He's a formerly disgraced and retired, now reinstated, Star Fleet officer. He has just been named chancellor of the Star Fleet Academy. His friends are doing pretty all right, actually. His buddy Rios is back in Starfleet as a captain, and his buddy Raffi is back in Starfleet, and his buddy Seven-of-Nine is saving people in the galaxy as a Fenris ranger, and his buddy Elnor just graduated from Starfleet Academy! Hey, even doctor Agnes Jurati is doing... fine. Things are great!   Except, Picard is awkward in love. *And* there is a big rift in spacetime calling his name. He goes to it. He tries to contact it. Things get messy. Things blow up.   Meet Jean-Luc. He's a bloody thirsty general for the Confederation of Earth. He keeps the skulls of his enemies on pikes in his office. Seven is the president of the confederation. Rios is killing Vulcans. Elnor is a terrorist. Things have gone very sour indeed.   Enter Q... and that's when the whole thing really get interesting.   BECOME A PATRON and join us for all things Trek, BTS, community zoom hangs and MORE http://patreon.com/setphasers

Is this actually an episode of Firefly, what would this show do without Raffi, Sophia confuses The Bachelor and Survivor, Nathan Fillion is our fav, Adrienne was an 85 year old 17 year old, the enemy of despair is action, is there a nail tech on this decommissioned Borg cube, more age diversity please, and Adrienne and Sophia are both sleep-deprived. Content warning: brief mention of sexual abuse starting at 44 minutes. ***Follow us on Instagram: @wheresbev Have a question or concern?
