How can we learn not to take things personally? Whether good or bad, there's an agreement to be learned around how we exchange with others when it comes to our words and what we take on when someone has something to say about us. Today Kara is diving into a small yet powerful book – The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz – which truly offers life-changing freedom when you apply the author's insights. If you missed last week's episode, please do yourself a favor and go back and listen to 'Being Impeccable With Your Word' (The First Agreement) which speaks to the power of being more intentional with our word.Learning not to take things personally: easier said than done! Often we get caught in an emotional tug-of-war when someone says something to us that we don't like. So how do we begin to not let that affect us negatively? It starts with an appreciation that someone else's opinion of you is colored by their world perspective. And so if someone does say something that hurts you, then there is a part of you that believes that to be true. And if you take something someone else says personally, you're making it about yourself. Open yourself to a whole new level of self-love with the perfect antidote to any year-end angst you might be feeling with an episode of Soul Inspiring Business that gently soothes as it enlightens. Live in a state of more bliss – without the approval of someone else! Please join us. How can we be more intentional with our words? The word ‘impeccable' actually means ‘without sin' and this is in fact The First Agreement in the book: be impeccable with your word. For the next four episodes, Kara will be unpacking the book, The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz. Our words carry great power: they have the power to heal, transform, and create. Understanding how we can be impeccable with our word is a journey. Is a voice of negativity dictating the direction of your life? What does your internal dialogue look like? Learning to name the negative voice in your head is the start you can make to identify your negative thoughts and nip them in the bud.Additionally, Kara also unpacks the impact that our words have on others whether they are present or not. How can we become more intentional in every conversation with our word choice? If you knew that you could heal people with your words, how does that allow you to show up differently in every conversation? Please enjoy a breath of fresh air and positivity as we wind down 2024 with a philosophical and spiritual message that will resonate with all. We all have the power to heal with our words. “How can we make a conscious choice to say: ‘I am being impeccable with my word'? Not only with other people but also with the words that I speak to myself.” ~ Kara Chaffin DonofrioIn This Episode:How do we speak to ourselves?Understanding our own self-doubt (and how we can transcend that)Naming the negative personHow can we show up differently (by preparing differently) with our loved ones?Making the agreement impeccable with our wordResources:The Four Agreements (book) - The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book)Jordan Peterson - Jordan PetersonBrad Lea - Brad LeaConnect with Kara:Website - http://www.kcdrealestate.com/ Email - kara@kdcrealestate.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/karachaffindonofrio/Facebook - https://web.facebook.com/karachaffin1YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/KaraChaffinLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karachaffin

Daniel Matalon was such an inspiring guest the first time around that we needed more so we invited him back to explore in greater detail some of his ideas and concepts for collaboration and sustainability to meet the challenge of having 100% of humanity thrive. Join us on The Conscious Vibe for this important and relevant conversation with our friend, Daniel Matalon. --- Daniel Matalon is the founder of #IsThereEnough, a provocative new conversation about the intersection of survival economics and social justice. He is also the co-founder of Impact Launchpad, a UK-based venture studio for social impact incubation and development. Working from a book, a conversation, and a unique social research experiment that has taken him to 22 countries, Mr. Matalon is asserting that humanity's biggest existential threat is not climate change, tribalism, or inequality but our inability to make an agreement with each other at the level we require to address our challenges. Daniel Matalon is on a mission. Dan asserts that humanity's biggest existential threat is not climate change, tribalism, or inequality but our inability to make agreements with each other at the level we require to address our challenges. In this podcast Simon explores both the mission and what's behind it, making interesting connections to how the personal and the project come together. The question "is there enough?" is like a yeast starter, once you ask the question it expands. Dan aims to meet everyday folk in a place where they can reflect on their identities and their worldviews, opening a space for new collaborations. Enjoy this podcast! I really valued your two Podcasts last month on clean questions and have listened to them several times. I see a link between don Miguel Ruiz's most important First Agreement; Be Impeccable With Your Word and Clean Language/Clean Coaching. Please can you expand further on what you mean by clean questions and where it originated? I am just about to order Radical Candor and I wondered how that ties in with clean questions too. Please can you share a further Podcast on this?
The First Agreement - Be Impeccable With Your WordWhy is your word so important? Because, according to Ruiz, it is your power to create. “What you dream, what you feel, and what you really are, will all be manifested through the word.”It's all connected, and what you say matters. This includes what we say to ourselves as well as what we say to others. Our inner voice is often the most destructive because it draws from our negative core beliefs: I'm not good enough, smart enough, worthy of love, deserving of happiness, etc.So what does it mean to be impeccable with your word? From its Latin roots, it means “without sin,” which Ruiz goes on to explain:“A sin is anything that you do which goes against yourself. Everything you feel or believe or say that goes against yourself is a sin. You go against yourself when you judge or blame yourself for anything. Being without sin is exactly the opposite. Being impeccable is not going against yourself. When you are impeccable, you take responsibility for your actions, but you do not judge or blame yourself.”Going Against The First AgreementWe go against ourselves all the time without realizing it. We say we want one thing, but then we do exactly the opposite. Because our subconscious wants to keep us safe, it will default to what is known and familiar, even if it's painful and not at all what we want. It's because we created it with our own thoughts, words, and actions. When you blame others, you are not impeccable with your word. Angry words directed at someone else (whether they hear them or not), are angry words you use against yourself. They are a reflection of how you feel inside. It comes from a place of believing you are owed by this person rather than looking at where you let yourself down.My Version Of The First Agreement: Speak Your Truth in LoveSpeak your truth, Speak your truth but do it with love. Instead of hiding who you are and how you feel, express it openly and honestly. This can be scary for many of us because we're afraid of being judged and rejected. If we can get thru the fear and move past the fear we will find the KEY to emotional freedom,, self-acceptance and a living an authentic life is all within the first agreement. The First Agreement and our Co-Parenting RelationshipsFinding ways to encourage, honor and respect the other co-parent, is only part of the way I am impeccable with my words. Work hard on not gossiping about the other co-parent or engaging in negative talk that only hurts and doesn't help. Whenever I'm emotionally triggered, I am always willing to take responsibility no matter what! No unnecessary drama, blame, or tirades. JournalFor the next week, pay attention to your words, both verbal and your internal dialogue. In your journal, jot them down. Write down when you were impeccable with your word and spoke your truth, and when you didn't.What is something you are hiding, which you may have shame around? What are your fears around expressing it to another person? When was the last time you said you would do something, but didn't go through with it? Examples might include making plans to get together with someone, sending a thank you note, calling a parent or friend, etc. How did/do you feel by going against what you said you would do? Benefits? Is it a pattern of letting yourself down? Is it an opportunity to punish yourself because that's something you're used to? I suggest making two columns: one for times you were impeccable with your word and one for the occasions you didn't. If you can, write it down in the moment! If you have trouble remembering to check in with yourself, set a reminder once or twice a day.Again, it's all connected. Choose your words carefully. They are more powerful than you think.

The First Agreement in the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is to be impeccable with your word. Why do we find it so incredibly challenging to...tell the truth at all times? To live up to our promises, to be impeccable with our word? After our many references to Don Miguel Ruiz’s book The Four Agreements over the last six months, we have decided to end this season of the Mindful Matters Podcast by devoting a podcast to each agreement. In this episode we discuss the first of the four agreements: to be impeccable with your word. The idea of being mindful with your speech, not only outwardly towards others, but inwards as well, especially with self-criticism, is a powerful one, especially since the concept of moderating one’s speech is rarely thought to apply to someone’s inner voice. In applying this agreement to our lives, we can begin to recognize how powerful words can be. And once we acknowledge the power of the word, we can apply it to ourselves in the most positive way possible; as Don Miguel states, in the direction of truth and love. We hope you enjoy this first part of the four part series.

Ruiz’s First Agreement says “be impeccable with your word.” Ultimately what you feel within will find life through your words. If you have love within, negative words can’t take root within, and you don’t feel the need to spread rumors or misinformation.
I started up a conversation with myself on a long drive home; instigated, again, by: The First Agreement, listening to a Sam Harris interview w/ David Whyte, a Jordan Petersen quote about Character, and triggered by a few notable personalities stealing the truth about who they are through the use of feasible bullshit. Should I leave behind a legacy, what would it be, how would it be described?Spoiler alert - it would have very little to say about accomplishments or provide a list of 'been there done thats'.Thought instigators this week:"Waking Up App" interview of David Whyte & Sam Harris. The discussion about vulnerability.Chriss Smith comment: "embracing that my story is good enough"
In this episode, we’re going to explore some themes and connections surfaced by a book called The Four Agreements. This book was recommended by Olivia Roberson from episode 002, and Katina Mountanos from episode 005. This book is about managing fear and suffering by identifying and destroying bad beliefs that hold us back. It offers a very simple message, yet one that is very difficult, and very-very important, to implement: we can live without suffering and fear. Lifestyle Listener: Tackling Life One Conversation at a Time
In today's episode, Jessica and I talk about the idea of how important our word is to the world and to ourselves. We discuss the book "The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book)" by Don Miguel Ruiz and begin the next several podcasts on Ruiz's Toltec Wisdom guides to finding peace and happiness in life. The First Agreement, which is to be impeccable with your word, not only involves how we talk to other people in our lives, whether that be friends, family, our kids, etc. It also deals with how we talk to ourselves. I highly recommend this book, especially if you are on your own personal journey to learning more about your self, or trying to help others on their own self-help discoveries. Hopefully you can pull some wisdom from our conversation in this episode to help you on your own health and wellness goals. Ruiz's book can be found on Amazon, along with several other books he has written on self-help and self-discovery through Toltec wisdom. Playing “The Game” this month has Jen revisiting The Four Agreements, the book by Don Miguel Ruiz that was written as a practical guide to personal freedom. The first Agreement is “Be impeccable with your word.” This agreement is a good reminder of the power of our words to plant seeds that turn into thoughts that become actions. Just like we are responsible for actions on and off the mat, we need to practice responsibility for the words we use around ourselves and others. Make it a practice today to use positive words and plant positive seeds. This is a foundation of good self-care. To hear how this impacts you on the mat, give episode number 7, “The Downward Spiral” a listen. And if you need a quick Self-care Sunday read, pick up The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. The First Agreement - a more in depth discussion about what I gained from the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. 1 – Be impeccable with your word. Your words have Power. They create the images and perception of you to others. The guide the path to your future self and they determine your happiness and your disillusions of an unrealistic reality. Stand for the words you speak and make your words represent who you truly are and how you want to be perceived in truth. You are the words you speak. Mindset Academy is led by Monika and Jan Zands. This month we will dive into how do you limit your life in a way that does not allow you to become fully who you really are? There are several books that are basic for personal development, one of them is The Four Agreements, written by Don Miguel Ruiz. Jan set examples when we label ourselves as “liars.” Yes, that is a big word, but many times we promise to ourselves we are going to do something and we fail to do it. We are also “thieves” stealing time from others when not showing up on time, we are “murderers” when killing other people’s dreams. Strong, isn’t it? The Four Agreements book brings us the First Agreement which is: “Be Impeccable with your word.” When you fail to be impeccable with your word, the biggest injury is not upon others but upon yourself. When you make a promise you first make it with yourself and by breaking it, you are affecting you first and then others. Impeccable means without sin. What makes us unique as human beings is language. When you use your language to hurt, then you are sinning. We need to take responsibility of our words and manage how what we say has to do with ourselves more than with others. The emotional baggage that we carry around makes us sick, physically sick, but is not our body but our emotions that we are carrying unsolved. Awareness and Repetition of our behaviors and words is needed. Sometimes “Upset” is the way of realizing that we have not being impeccable with our words. Follow this process of healing when you have the access that upset is showing: Think in a time when you were not impeccable with your word. You labeled yourself after that situation, you carry the memory of that moment, blaming and judging yourself. Free yourself by practicing forgiveness. Forgive yourself for judging yourself. What is the truth? Summarizing the work of today’s session: Elevate your impeccability by: Awareness. Matter shifts when it’s observed. If you find upset, that is an opportunity to heal. Ask yourself, what is the emotion? Then track that emotion in time. (Find the pattern and heal them all by starting with one.) What happened? What was the judgment? Now, practice compassion and self forgiveness. Fill the space with LOVE, YOU ARE WORTHY! In This Episode You Will Learn: Consider/Ask Yourself: How often are you practicing compassion and self-forgiveness? Practice: “I forgive myself for judging myself as…” Key Insights and Ahas: Emotional Upsets are the access to a place inside that hurts. Awareness and repetition leads to shift and healing.

Join the Clique as we discuss the meaning and the importance of the first of the four agreements as they are written in the book: The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz. Ruiz, says, that not only is this the most important agreement, but the most challenging to honor. This is the second show of a five show series on the book and its teachings. Let us know what you think of this show or any show at blueclique@gmail.com
Now, if you’re like me, the initial impression of this first agreement is that it simply means “do as you say, say as you do” and “tell the truth…always.”. Well, that’s only a minor part of it. Almost every major religion/philosophy has a teaching about the power of words. In Christianity it’s “the tongue has the power of life and death”. In Buddhism it’s “Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind they can change our world.”
