Every parent, and caregiver, wants to give their children the best chance to succeed in life. A crucial ingredient in experiencing a joyful happy life lies within the quality of our relationships, fuelled with emotion. Many psychologists over time have confirmed that the ability to manage our emotions in a healthy way will determine the quality of our life, much more fundamentally than our IQ. Psychologists call this ability EQ, or Emotional Intelligence Quotient, which is what we are here to discuss today. To help we welcome our special guest Stephanie Pinto, a Certified Emotional Intelligence Coach and Trainer, Co-Founder at EQ Culture, and Emotional Intelligence trainer for Zen Tea Lounge Foundation Her passion is helping parents and their children to have a more calm and connected life, and better relationships with those around them. We ask Stephanie questions including: How important do you think it is to train EQ skills early on in life? Are we born with EQ or does it have to be taught? Would you say a child's EQ starts with their relationship with their parents? What are the 4 core areas that makeup EQ? I believe the first two are related to our awareness of our and others' emotions? And the second area of EQ relates to how we manage emotions, both our own and others. What are the benefits of teaching children EQ? How can I teach my children emotional intelligence? Did this impact your schooling as a child, and or your adult life at all, if so, how? In this Episode . . . Stephanie shares that her parents owned a business while she was in high school, but when time came to sell their business and retire, they struggled to find buyers. She realized then that the business was sellable, but they didn't know how to talk about their business as an investment. For Stephanie, it is fun to see people get excited, but she tries to help when they are frustrated because they see a way to grow but don't know how to find the money to do it. Most entrepreneurs are not finance people, so don't always understand their financial health and what pieces to put in place. They need to know their numbers in order to look and ask for capital. The numbers are very revealing! The world changed during the pandemic. Toward the end of the year, and people adapted, there was quite a bit of money raised. The changes, including the world of Zoom, made people transition to a different way of approaching the investor. But, she did see a lot of people panic, but most turned the panic into productivity. The biggest misconception people have, is there is this huge pool of money just looking to be spent. That isn't how it works. They generally won't fund 100% of the round, and sometimes they simply aren't interested because it isn't big enough for them. Reality is this – there are different kinds of capital for companies at different stages. Fundraising is just like sales and marketing – you need an ideal client, and you need a message that resonates with them. You can't stand up and simply ask, “Hey I have this thing, do you want to buy it?” Building connections is key, even though the digital world continues to advance. It's time to pull back automation and create genuine relationships. The touch and customer service are needed. Philosophy needs to be aligned with whomever you work with. It isn't always prudent to get involved, and there are always going to be other opportunities. Finally, Stephanie shares this piece of advice, “money is not your problem.” Rethink things if you feel money will get you where you want to go. Stephanie BwaBwa has been a lifelong reader, starting with pop-up books as a child, which brought fairy tales to life. She cemented her love of fiction when she discovered Lemony Snicket and the crazy world described there. But she says it was the Mortal Instruments series that turned her into a writer and put the desire to write into her heart. She wrote her first book in 2013. It was a story came out of nowhere, tackled big themes and where she made a lot of mistakes. At that time she didn't fully understand structure, but writing that book was a great way to start her career.“so much beauty can come from ashes”We talk about how dark times in your life can result in something beautiful. Stephanie went through a dark chapter in her own life, but it what spurred her on to write that first book.“balance is bogus”We discuss how you can, or can't, have the perfect balance between work and back home. Stephanie's coach reminds her that ‘balance is bogus', that it's impossible to strive for, or expect, to have the perfect balance, and Stephanie agrees. She says we have to know what our priority is in each season of life. I for one find this a refreshing perspective. We talk, too, about how to make time for your writing. For Stephanie it comes down to time blocking. She needs to look at her schedule, blocking the time she can write because she knows if it doesn't go in her diary, it doesn't get done! It's a tough thing to swallow, she says, but we each have to make a sacrifice if we want to write a book. That might mean going to bed a bit later, getting up a bit earlier or even missing that TV show everyone is talking about. Stephanie tells us about her universe Elledelle, and where it came from. Primarily it came from the stories she learned in church as a child, She wondered what if? What if she mixed God's world with her imagination? From there she adopted the stories, invented new ones about Angels and demons and so her universe was born.Stephanie has fantastic ideas for how new science fiction and fantasy writers can start their own world-building. First you have to know why the story is important to you, what draws you to that particular story. When you know you can delve right in.Next, you can approach your world-building from either a character perspective or a world perspective. Pick an angle and deep dive with it. Don't forget that your character is a product of the world you're creating, so how will the atmosphere, the food, the roles people play, impact your character. We discussed how you can stay out of that research rabbit hole. Trust your gut, she says. Recognise when you have enough to get started. If you continue to research and not write, ask yourself what are you running from? What is stopping you from writing? To tackle the fear of imposter syndrome, Stephanie urges. Think from a place of service, don't think about yourself, but your reader. Stephanie Roman is a weight-neutral Food & Body Acceptance Coach. She offers her clients a weight-neutral approach to health and wellness using the principles of Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size. Stephanie brings to her coaching method both her personal experience with dieting and body shame as well as a compassionate, judgment-free space, oodles of support and laser-sharp intuition. In today's episode Stephanie shares just one of her stories - the belief that the most important thing she could offer the world was her looks, and how “pretty” she was. This “gift” had nothing to do with her, and it said nothing about her as a person. She knew it was entirely wrapped up in how other's viewed her - all these other people got to decide her worth. Here's the thing, as Stephanie so beautifully shares, whomever you allow the power to make you feel worthy, also yields the power to make you feel worthless. For Stephanie, it was no surprise that she spent years, decades, chasing her own worthiness. Today, Stephanie has learned how to tune into her body's innate wisdom, appreciate her body for the miracle that it is, and she's using her experiences and wisdom to help others do the same. We all know that you can’t pour from an empty cup. It’s especially true for physicians who spend their days healing others. Dr. Stephanie Byerly joins me to speak about her own experience with burnout and how she adopted self-care practices to heal herself. How to Avoid Burnout as a Woman Physician Create Self Care Routines Find a Community of Other Women Educate Yourself About the Culture of Medicine Find Cognitive Psychology-Based Coaching About Stephanie I Byerly, MD Dr. Stephanie Byerly is a Professor of Anesthesiology and a Director of a High-Risk Obstetrical Unit, a Gender Equity Expert, a Certified Mind-Body Medicine Coach, a Physician Wellness Expert, The Chair, of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Committee on Women Anesthesiologists, and a Certified Life and Weight Loss Coach. Chaos and drama described Stephanie’s life until about 10 years ago. She came from a very dysfunctional childhood with a mother with severe mental illness and experienced several types of abuse and trauma. Stephanie was also an ill child growing up and spent some time in the hospital, but from 3 years old, spoke of becoming a doctor. Stephanie always had this image of what she wanted her life to be and look like to the outside world. She had a vision that becoming a physician which would render her immune to the struggles of life and allow her to fix everything and make a difference in this world. After graduating from her physician training, Stephanie married a physician, had two beautiful daughters, a beautiful house, cars, and a great job but still was not happy. She never would have imagined that some of the most challenging and defining times were ahead. After getting divorced and becoming a single parent, the sole breadwinner, and being a full-time physician, Stephanie began her personal growth journey. She was balancing being a parent who was not going to allow their children to face any of the challenges she faced growing up while being a full-time physician with many administrative roles and aspirations for a successful productive academic career. Stephanie wanted to understand why everything seemed to just happen to her, why she was not happy, and always felt like the victim. She wanted to understand why being a woman in medicine brought another slew of challenges and obstacles that were unfair. Then the burnout came, twice, and her biggest fear was not being able to support her two daughters. Stephanie’s biggest fear was becoming like her mother and knew something had to change. She found a way out of the burnout and understood she had a lot more work to do to find the peace, joy, and happiness she wanted in her life. Going through Life Coach Training has changed Stephanie’s life in unbelievable ways and provided her with the tools to impact the lives of women physicians by showing them a way out of “survival mode” to a life of personal fulfillment, joy, happiness, and realizing they are “enough just the way they are.” Stephanie started her Life Coaching Business, Healing Through Life Coaching. She helps women physicians who are exhausted, overextended, and feel like they are failing at everything take back their power to have joy in their personal and professional lives. Burnout and Victim Mentality Dr. Stephanie Byerly speaks about her own experience with burnout. Physicians do experience burnout at a fairly high rate, but why is that? For Stephanie, hers came not just from the stress and pressure of being a woman physician and single mother, but also from falling into a space of victim mentality. It’s understandable when you feel like the world is constantly pressuring you, to adopt a victim mentality. But it’s not sustainable. Stephanie shares the steps she took to break free of this way of thinking once she recognized it for what it is. Stephanie took some big steps after recognizing the position she was in. The biggest takeaway here is self-care. Taking the time to prioritize your own health and wellbeing is the key to avoiding burnout - and healing from it. The Importance of Feeling Your Feelings Stephanie also explains the importance of feeling your feelings. Instead of avoiding them or bottling them up, actually sitting and recognizing them for what they are is a life changer. She shares how this process allowed her brain to realize that feeling even the most negative feelings isn’t the worst thing she can do - she will be just fine. This realization allowed her to escape that automatic protection mode and move on to focusing on better thoughts. Stephanie explains how life coaching helped her change her thought model. She also shares what role fear has in her life and how she’s now able to move past the feelings of fear. Finally, Stephanie shares some of her own self-care practices. Gratitude is one of the biggest practices you can adopt, along with regular exercise, getting outside and journaling. Homework for Women Physicians What self-care practices do you regularly engage in? If you don’t currently have any, what practices will you start to bring into your routine? Our primitive brain wants us to go towards the negative all the time. Once we realize that that’s what our brain automatically does to protect ourselves, we can start looking at our thoughts and changing those, and our outcomes, and living intentionally. It is so transformational.” [9:02] “I let myself feel the feelings and they go away. That was the most liberating thing for me to realize that I can feel the feelings and that I’m going to be just fine. It allows your brain to have different thoughts because you’re not going into automatic protection mode and shutting everything down.” [14:36] “We’re in this culture where we’re facing so many dilemmas we had no idea we were going to face. Specializing your photography business doesn’t always mean choosing a single demographic to focus on. You can narrow your focus to specific demographics and still consider yourself a specialist. The key is to identify WHO you’re targeting your business to and cater your offerings to them. For Stephanie, she has built a thriving company by doing exactly that. She isn’t saying yes to every genre of photography, she has niched her business down to very targeted demographics that speak to her brand, style and passion. In addition, we also tackle the topic of burnout. It’s a real thing and it sucks. As a business owner, have you ever felt so submerged in your business that you’ve become lost in it? If you’ve ever felt the weight of endless tasks and can’t seem to meet all of the demands of your business– you’re not alone. We’ve been there. We’re chatting all about it– and our hope is that we can help YOU get through the process, too.

Stephanie Thornton Plymale lived in a car with her mentally ill mother, became a ward of the state of California and an abused foster child, endured multiple car wrecks and physical traumas, and is one of the most optimistic, cheerful people I know. How do we bounce forward from trauma? How do we work with the anxiety and fear in our body that is created by trauma in order to understand and assimilate what happened to us? For Stephanie, it was investigating the onset of her mother's multiple personality disorder and realizing the extent of intergenerational trauma. American Daughter is above all, a book about hope.
Sometimes it's hard to ask for help or make “unreasonable requests”, but in business, it's necessary. You have to be courageous enough to know your worth and ask for the things that you want and need. As an entrepreneur, you have to be able to welcome uncomfortable situations. It can lead you to growth and acquiring the knowledge and experiences you need to scale your business. You have to surround yourself with like-minded people and reach out to various networks to figure out what you can get from them and what they can get from you. Business, after all, is all about exchanges, not only wealth but also value. In this episode, Stephanie Burns shares her experiences and how she used the concept of “unreasonable requests” to grow her business and skillset. She will also discuss the struggles she had to overcome to achieve success. Stephanie also talks about the mistakes entrepreneurs often make in starting a business. Join us and learn more about the art of unreasonable requests and how you can use it for your business. About Stephanie Stephanie Burns is the founder of Chic CEO. It is an online resource providing information, tools, and community for new female entrepreneurs. She is a contributor to Forbes and has a background in media buying, brand building, strategy and entrepreneurship. Stephanie is also a keynote speaker in events that support female entrepreneurs. Growing Your Business Through "Unreasonable Requests" Stephanie's Beginnings Stephanie initially dreamed of being an opera singer and later changed her mind. She then obtained a degree in advertising. She first worked in the marketing team of a casino and later in Bulldog Drummond, an innovation consultancy in San Diego. Around 2008, most of her friends got laid off and came to her for advice on starting a business. This moment led her to research the fast-growing market of female entrepreneurship. She won in the television program Wheel of Fortune. It helped her build her website, Chic CEO. Within six months of launching, Chic CEO gained a following and was named one of the top 10 entrepreneur websites for women by Forbes. Struggles Stephanie Had to Overcome Since her business does not have outside investment, getting capital is an issue she had to face. They have a vast following even if they did not spend money on marketing. Nonetheless, Stephanie knew that money could help them grow much faster. Due to this struggle, she became an expert negotiator to adapt to their business lack of money. Using the Magic of “Unreasonable Requests” to Your Advantage She had to find a way to get the result she wanted with the tools she had. As an entrepreneur, you have to overcome uncomfortable situations. Be courageous to get the things that you want and need—use unreasonable requests. Using the magic of unreasonable requests, she was able to purchase, learn, and experience new things and knowledge. The process of unreasonable requests is reciprocity. You have to offer value in exchange for the request. There are two types of income. First is physical income, which is money. The other is psychic income, which is a nonmonetary reward like providing a network and contacts benefitting your company. The Mistakes Entrepreneurs Are Making Entrepreneurs are easily freaked out by their mistakes or doing the wrong thing. In business, there is no wrong step. There is only the next thing that informs you of the next move. You have to be courageous, move, and take action. Not getting started comes from a place of fear. Stephanie talked about the concept of The 18-40-60 rule. Listen to the full episode to get what it means and how you can use this type of mindset! The Best Advice She Received Howard Leonhard, an investor in Silicon Beach in LA, told her that a CEO only has two jobs: delegate, and not to delegate the delegating. As an entrepreneur, you have to hone your skills and recognize the strengths and weaknesses of your team. Then, build your business around it. On Overcoming Her Struggles and Becoming Successful It's essential to recognize the things that are holding you back to combat the mindset you have. For Stephanie, the feeling of not being worthy is the thing that held her back. Through the help of her fiance and friends, she overcame her lack of self-worth. You can practice arguing with yourself to clear your mindset. Things That Keep Stephanie Excited for the Future Stephanie is launching her new podcast for entrepreneurs called “The Top 3 For Entrepreneurs.” She is also working on the Chic Elite Program that offers business coaching and advice for financially unequipped entrepreneurs. Stephanie Laska lost 140 pounds, roughly half of her body weight, by following a ketogenic inspired diet. She figured out that the secret to losing weight without the crazy restrictions of a traditional keto diet was to break the rules and create her own “dirty” and “lazy” outlaw version of keto. Stephanie spent most of her adult life in the Morbidly Obese Class III BMI category. Hovering close to 300 pounds, she avoided booths at restaurants and feared not fitting into amusement park rides. “I once put my jacket over my lap so the flight attendant wouldn’t see that my seatbelt wouldn’t close,” she admits. That embarrassing moment was concerning, but it wasn’t until her son nearly lost his life on a roller coaster that Stephanie kicked it into high gear with the keto diet. “As my seat partner on the Thunder Mountain ride at Disneyland, my little boy was completely unprotected from the ride’s safety bar. He practically flew out of the ride down the first hill. The safety bar protected my 300 pound body – but not his!” Desperation and embarrassment motivated Stephanie to stop living in denial about her obesity. She was determined to try anything! When a friend suggested she could drink a cold beer, cut back on carbs, but lose weight, Stephanie was intrigued. Any diet that included loopholes for having a chilly one should be first on the list, she admitted. Through trial and error, Stephanie learned how eating a low carb, moderate protein, higher fat diet could finally nudge her weight in the right direction. “This is the weirdest diet ever!” went through her mind every time she got on the scale. Coming from an era of eating Fruit Loops washed down with a pitcher of Kool-Aid, Stephanie was clueless about the metabolic effects of consuming too many carbohydrates. For Stephanie, the strict keto diet didn’t make sense for the long term. Complicated math, expensive ingredients, and rigid guidelines? No thanks! Stephanie figured out the secret to losing weight was to break the rules. She believed there had to be a better way. DIRTY, LAZY, KETO explains the unique keto diet Stephanie followed to achieve her amazing weight loss success. Using humor and simple explanations, Stephanie walks the reader through her personal manifesto for effective weight loss and maintenance. Her way is doable. Nothing fancy is required. For Stephanie and Neil Legg, traditional church services are becoming something of the past. Neil is pastor at Covenant Christian Fellowship, in Charleston. Stephanie is a therapist and yoga instructor. On today’s podcast, I’m talking to Stephanie Hanna who is a lawyer by trade but has been coaching and helping legal professionals to kickstart and progress their careers. Her brand is about the ‘other 85’ where she claims that in order to be successful, 15% of what you need consists of legal knowledge, and the other 85% is made up of the things they never teach you in law school. This includes everything from building confidence to establishing a network. Even though she’s highly competent in the coaching aspect of her business, she needs a bit of help with the business side of things. Today’s podcast is fascinating because there are so many things that Stephanie is excelling at. However, with a bit of tweaking, it’s clear that she’s going to have a super-successful year. As you watch your business grow and achieve financial milestones, It’s also important for all of us to remember why we started the business in the first place. I always wanted to have the freedom to take a four-week vacation without worrying about it. For Stephanie, she values the flexibility that she can’t find with a traditional job. Working hard and making money is one thing. But never forget to enjoy life and the freedom that comes your way as your business evolves. If you’re ready to get the full lowdown on how Stephanie is going to hit six figures then listen to the podcast on iTunes today. I also strongly urge you to subscribe so you don’t miss any of this free content that could help turn your business (and life) around. For more information, visit www.jereshiahawk.com/podcast

In this episode, I chat with Stephanie LaTorre, an entrepreneur helping women grow their businesses. Stephanie booked a one way ticket to Italy where she discovered the journey that fuels her soul. In our conversation, Stephanie talks about saying yes and doing what others thought she would do to support them, but not choosing the things that would support herself. It was the question: “but what do I want?” That sparked her own exploration to live life her own way. For Stephanie, she physically could no longer do what others wanted her to do. She needed to break free and said “enough is enough”. During our conversation we chat about: Choosing from the options given instead of deciding what was best for her. How she took steps to explore her options, start a business even with limited knowledge, figuring out life as you go along, and bring open to new opportunities. Being open to evolving and embracing personal development to grow on your journey. The power of surrounding yourself with the right people, receiving help and guidance to build the life you dream of. The importance of embracing personal development and self-care. Powerful Insight: “It is so important to be able to listen to yourself and listen to your body and listen to your brain. And if you are having those kinds of fears and doubts and feeling stuck, it’s your body way of telling you that there is something going on that needs to be addressed here. There is something that you need to be working on.” “Whatever you think the problem is, it’s generally not the problem. So go find whatever the problem underneath that problem is because thats the one you need to work on to the fix that one you really want to fix.” “There is not a single person that you are looking at that is successful or risk and famous or has gotten to amazing points in their life that did not work with someone on this stuff.” Tips to move you forward on your journey: Meditation - Meditation sets aside time for YOU away from the chaos of your world. It creates an inner peace. “It is so important to be able to listen to yourself and listen to your body and listen to your brain. And if you are having those kinds of fears and doubts and feeling stuck, it’s your body way of telling you that there is something going on that needs to be addressed here. There is something that you need to be working on.” Journaling - Write down your story for YOU. From the beginning of your life to now. Write your truth. When something is bothering you, journaling is a great way to identify what is causing the issue and to work through how you can make a shift to solve the problem. Rewrite your stories after they happen and work through what is going on and what you are worried about each day. When you write out your stories, you can rewrite their meanings so that you work through the negative self-talk or what is really bothering you about those experiences. Find a mentor, a coach, who can guide you - a coach or a mastermind group will challenge you and ask the right questions to keep you moving forward, to help you see a new perspective and shift your mind in a direction that will lead you to overcome obstacles. “My brain only knows what it knows. It works based on the 35 years of experience that I have. It can’t tell me things beyond that until I get there. But other people have different experiences, so by allowing them to help you and guide you, it is life changing. And you can’t do it on your own.” You need to surround yourself with people that support you and are your cheerleaders so they can push you to be better than you are! When Stephanie Johnson decided to start her business, Single and the City -- which hosts intimate and enriching events for single individuals in cities around the country -- she knew that she didn't want this to be some ordinary matchmaking service or a night of speed dating. For Stephanie, it was all about creating a business that shows love to the whole person with a combination of coaching and authentic connections.
Episode 55 - It's A Hallmark Christmas Season - Oh...it's On, Baby! Helloo...this is Stephanie...Talk, Tales and Trivia. And I LOVE Christmas! :-) Yep. It's true! In this episode Stephanie talks, and talks, and talks about her love of the Christmas season by highlighting the Hallmark company that includes the two Hallmark cable channels. These are two very important channel's to Stephanie this season. Why? Because of the Hallmark Original Christmas Movies that play all season long. Yes. For Stephanie...it feels so right! So it can't be wrong! She goes into a little history (and we do mean a very little) and then dives right into all the snowy, Christmas-time Hallmark fun. Hey, if you have time, glide on over to the "Countdown To Christmas" on the Hallmark Channel and see what Stephanie's all aglow about. Also, Hallmark has an online game on the website that you can enter to win prizes! Fun! Yes. There is fun for all! There's so much to see and do this time of year but to Stephanie, carving out a little time to sit, relax, unwind, and drink a hot beverage while watching a Christmas movie...or five...is SO worth it! You might say it's the frosting on top of the gingerbread cookie! Well, that just makes us hungry. So now...go quick...get that wonderful hot beverage of choice and throw a blanket on, get in your coziest chair and relax with a Hallmark Christmas movie or two. And promise us that for a couple of hours or so you will let yourself just sit and watch a "feel good" Christmas movie. Stephanie does it all the time and, you know what?...it DOES feel good. Now, The Two Things To Keep In Mind: *The Hallmark Channel has romantic, love story Christmas movies. And...just a heads up here but...the movies usually involve some sort of a love triangle with a hard decision having to be made at the end. And it's pretty much a no brainer on how it's going to end. *The Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Channel has family, feel-good Christmas movies. These kind of movies are perfect for when the whole family is gathered around with a big bowl of popcorn. Either way...you can't go wrong. Some Other Very Important Announcements: *Talk, Tales and Trivia will be coming out with episodes every other week now to give the team more time to do proper research. And this will usually mean a longer episode...so that's good! *Southpaw - A Tale About A Girl's Imagination is no longer on amazon because Stephanie is hard at work revising it after finding a few small things that needed changing and she is busy making the 2nd edition. It will be re-released in mid to late January. Go To The Hallmark Channel Website To See All The Cool Things Stephanie Talked About (and previews to the Christmas movies). http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/ ALSO...help a girl and her production gang out and push that PURPLE BUTTON on your iPhone (come on...you know the one) to SUBSCRIBE or REVIEW! Episode 44 - Give Me That Bacon! - Seriously. I Want It...Now. In this episode Stephanie discovers the world of bacon! Seriously. She loves her bacon. Mounds and mounds of bacon. For Stephanie, it can't get much better than having loads of bacon on her plate. Stephanie talks about her special love for this all-time very favorite meat that most American's love just as much as her. We also did some research discovering a few online stores that sell all the special bacon delicacies just in case family and friends don't know what to get Stephanie for her birthday (hint, hint...Mom and Dad...it's bacon). Get all the facts and then get some special bacon products including bacon jewelry, bacon clothing, chocolate covered bacon and the "Bacon of the Month Club". *Now, in doing this episode, Stephanie realizes that there are some that might find bacon not to their liking so we promise to make it up to you. On this episode of DLEW, I talk with Stephanie Paul, Founding Artistic Director of Be the Groove. When you think of telling stories, rhythm probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. For Stephanie and Be the Groove, rhythm is one of the most IMPORTANT and POWERFUL ways to communicate with their audience. Dance Like Everyone’s Watching with Andrea Muhlbauer is the show that brings you inspiration and insight into the world of dance and choreography. Andrea and her amazing guests are saying the things that no one else will. Slightly controversial opinions and real talk are guaranteed.
