Guest: Kizzy Parks is the Founder of GovCon Winners and KPC, Inc. As a kid, she would clean golf balls located in an alley behind a friend's house and resell them through a fence to golfers, and then used the money to buy candy bars. Kizzy always knew she'd become an entrepreneur. She also knew she wanted to earn an advanced degree in psychology. Her entrepreneurial spirit meshed well with her inquisitive nature and after earning a Ph. D, she founded KCP, Inc. a consulting firm focused on serving the needs of Federal agencies that now manages over $50M in government contracts. KCP was so successful at navigating the complex world of government contract that Kizzy started GovCon Winners, a firm that helps service-based small business owners learn how to win profitable federal government contracts and grow their bottom line. Episode in a Tweet: How hustling as a kid led this entrepreneur to create her own business navigating the world of government contracting and creating a machine that helps others. Quick Background: Kizzy is and always has been a hustler, which I greatly appreciate. From selling golf balls back to golfers as a kid, to taking on government contracts that track pigs, she has a unique way of showing up and adding value. She is passionate about the world of government contracting and has proven to be very successful at navigating its complexity and bureaucracy. After being burned by a former employee, she hired a coach who helped her look deep inside, make changes in her leadership style, and grow her company to new heights. Lizzy explains the world of government contracting, tells great stories about selling golf balls back to gophers, and shares how she got out of her own way. If you hadn't heard of Michigan Militias before the last week or so, you certainly have now. How did they end up implicated in the plot to kidnap and execute a sitting State governor? How did they get so powerful (debatably) and influential that the President is reaching out to them with his support, via Tweet? How worried should America be about them with only three weeks until Election Day?

Express Entry is one of the most volatile, scary, and stressful applications that can be submitted to Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada. In this episode I share with you some of my best insights and tips on navigating the Express Entry process safely. In the first few years of Express Entry, when I received an email from IRCC related to a file starting with the letter "E", my stomach started to churn and my stress levels started to rise. I hesitated going to my Rep Portal to check to see what this notification could mean. Was it just a simple request for Passports, or was it the dreaded refusal letter for having failed to upload some innocuous document? Although I don't feel that way now, I know that many of you fellow practitioners likely do....or if you don't, it's likely because you haven't yet filed many Express Entry applications. So in order to help reduce the stress level and increase the satisfaction level, I pull back the curtain and share some insight on the whole process and some tips for avoiding some of the more troubling areas. We are kicking off Black History month 2018 with a special friend of mine, Zemirah Scott. She is a philanthropist, branding marketing analyst, personal trainer, and business owner. She has a profound way of igniting lives, and we clicked immediately the very first time I met her. She is a former Temple University and Montgomery County Community College student, and her mission is to supply resources and tools for entrepreneurs and small businesses to gain economic stability. Since 2013, she has been the CEO of her marketing branding company, The Difference Development Group, better known as DDG-Philly in the City of Brotherly Love. Zemirah has truly impacted communities around her by her involvement in small business development, speaking at conferences, and mentoring youth. Her desire to give back has allowed her to amplify her knowledge, expertise, and professionalism. Her vision to propel and ignite the dream chaser inside each of us is everlasting, and that is what she is bringing to us in this episode. Drop the Negativity Who are the people that surround you? Zemirah says that this is an important thing to consider. We MUST surround ourselves with people who do amazing things! When she faced depression, she knew that it was necessary to “be the best me” and make changes. To excel at an optimal level, there may be people that you don’t need in your life, so drop them---and drop the negativity! TWEET: Find ways to either change you or change your environment. “It’s NOT really about you” Have you made excuses as to why you CAN’T do something? We would all probably admit that we do. Zemirah shares her experience when she had promised to write a book, but then decided to put it on the back burner because she had internal battles and a lot going on in her life. Her coach said, “It’s not really about you,” and that comment gave her a new perspective and new motivation to follow through. TWEET: We owe it to ourselves to uplift someone else. Mentoring Success Do you take the time to intentionally mentor others? Zemirah mentored her younger sister, age 11, who now has her own business! Her sister watched everything Zemirah has done, and she is learning what it means to be financially stable. Zemirah says, “I may not ever have a full-scale mentorship program, but I will always make room for mentees who want to learn.” TWEET: Massive failure equals massive success. Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take—“Watch The Secret, a documentary, by Rhonda Byrne, to unlock some things. That---and journaling.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [2:17] How Aimee met Zemirah at a talk by Cornell Thomas at the Art Sanctuary in Philadelphia [5:34] Intentionally seeking out people who do amazing things—and drop the negativity! If you are a foreign doctor wondering what it takes to actually practice medicine in Canada, this Episode is for you. Immigrating to Canada is often the easy part - understanding what it takes to actually qualify to work as a doctor is something entirely different. Canadian immigration lawyer, Irma Roberts joined me to shed some much needed light on this very confusing and difficult process. I am sure most of us have heard the failings of our old Federal Skilled Worker Program which opened Canada's doors to permanent resident status for foreign trained doctors only to see them driving taxis when they arrived. In this episode Calgary, Alberta based immigration lawyer Irma Roberts joins me to explain exactly what an International Medical Graduate needs to do to qualify to practice medicine in Canada. Irma Roberts has likely represented more foreign trained doctors in their efforts to become permanent residents of Canada than any other immigration lawyer in the country. Having her come on the Podcast was a complete no-brainer. Irma practices out of her own law firm in Calgary, Alberta. She has been involved with the Canadian Bar Association's local immigration section for a number of years including serving as the Chapter Chair and in a number of other capacities. Irma is heavily involved in volunteer work in Calgary currently serving as a Director on the Board of the Sunrise Community Link, a local anti-poverty organization. She is one of those lawyers that is doing it right. She cares about her clients and takes her responsibility to give back to the community very seriously. In this episode Irma and I discussed the following topics: the difference between working as a physician in Canada and immigrating as a physician; what is an international medical graduate (IMG); how to verify your qualifications as a physicians; what is the evaluation exam; can IMGs do their residency in Canada; how does the resident matching program work; and what are the best options for obtaining PR status in Canada. As many are likely aware by now... US President Donald Trump is acting quickly on his campaign promises. Through the use of some very strategic executive orders, he has shaken the very foundation of immigration law and policy in the United States. Although this Podcast is traditionally devoted to Canadian immigration, my special guest Heather Segal, a Canadian immigration lawyer and US immigration attorney, shares insight on not only what is happening in the US, but the potential impact it could have for Canadian immigration. If you think what is happening in the US will have no impact on us in Canada, listen to what Heather has to say... you might just have a different outlook when you are finished! [smart_track_player url="http://traffic.libsyn.com/canadianimmigrationpodcast/CIP_S2_E5.mp3" social="true" social_twitter="true" social_facebook="true" social_gplus="true" social_linkedin="true" ] If you are anything like me, you are probably wondering what the heck is going on south of the border. Although many of us thought President Donald Trump would do some pretty crazy things while in office, I'll bet none of you thought he would act so quickly to ensure his campaign promises became a reality. I am seriously starting to think that President Trump's wall between Mexico and the US might actually happen....... who actually "pays for it" is an entirely different topic. Heather Segal and I had a great time talking about what is happening in the US and musing over the possible ramifications, both good and bad, for immigration in Canada. One thing is certain, we will be impacted one way or another. With any luck for us immigration lawyers, Canadian immigration will be booming once again in just a few short months. Heather Segal is founder of Segal Immigration Law in Toronto. She is widely recognized for her expertise in immigration law and she speaks regularly at conferences and seminars throughout the world. Heather practices exclusively in the area of Canadian immigration law and American Consular and Border immigration law. She has spent a decade as a Director on the Board of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). She is currently a member of the AILA Customs and Border Protection National Liaison Committee. She was voted by her peers as one of the world's leading practitioners in corporate immigration law in 2018 in Who's Who Legal - Corporate Immigration, a distinction I am also grateful to have received. It's his dream to make his life matter by equipping others to make their lives matter for eternity. TWEET: Ep. 72: @CareyNGreen - #Live. #Build. #Change Can a singular pursuit hold you back? When most Thought Leaders preach singular focus on one dream or passion, some leaders push back at that idea. Carey Green is one of those leaders. He has learned that some people are wired to pursue multiple passion projects. Carey counts himself among them. He points out that Thought Leaders who teach about singular focus do so fervently because it's worked for them. Carey is challenging the idea that one size fits all. He wants to open up business leaders’ perspectives to see more opportunities for growth, not less. To hear more from Carey, make sure to catch THIS episode of Chasing Dreams! Leaving a Legacy Have you ever thought deeply about your legacy? What will you leave behind when all is said and done? As the New Year approaches, people often think about how to change or make an impact on the short term. But Carey Green has his eye on a different prize. Carey wants to make an impact that will live on long after his time on earth has passed. He wants to make a difference for eternity. Carey comes from a background in Christian ministry. His faith has fueled his latest passion project. Carey is launching a new endeavor called “Live.Change.Build.” Its focus is to equip Christian men and women in their pursuit of a stronger faith, a growing business, and creating an impact in their world. To catch more of Carey’s vision, listen to this inspiring episode of Chasing Dreams! TWEET: #Leaving a #Legacy @CareyNGreen Getting out of a “Funk” Have you ever been in a “Funk?” Has there been a time in your life where you just couldn’t figure out the way forward? How do you navigate your way out? Carey Green was in the middle of putting together a new project when he hit his “Funk.” He learned some important lessons in this season and how to make it out on the other side. First, he learned the necessity of letting others in. Carey shared his thoughts with someone close, his oldest son who works with him. That made a huge difference! Second, Carey focused on the clarity he had before the “Funk” set in. He calls it “Never doubting in the dark what you clearly saw in the light.” Hear Carey expand on these thoughts and more on this episode of Chasing Dreams! How do you weigh success? Is success always something you weigh by the numbers? What if there is a different way to gauge your impact? Carey Green is rethinking what success looks like. Carey is an entrepreneur so he’s a numbers and business guy at heart. But even deeper than that, Carey is a man of faith. It’s his faith that motivates him to look differently at success. He launched this new project to make a difference in the lives of others and to change the world. Carey wants to see his life influence others for eternity! To catch a view of success from a different angle, make sure to listen to this episode of Chasing Dreams! GUEST RECOMMENDATION: Be flexible. We tend to think that sitting down, making that plan and knowing every step of it is the answer. But that’s not the answer. Often our vision of what the dream is going to look like is not what it is really going to look like in the end. We don’t see the future clearly. We just have an idea really. As you are on the path, and you are approaching the consummation of that dream, be flexible. Jaime is an avid hockey fan. He loves the competitive spirit and the team aspect of the game. He enjoys the sport so much that he decided to integrate his passion for the sport into his passion for marketing. Jaime has been working in the sales and marketing arena since he left the US Army as a paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Division in 1994. Working for three different fortune 100 companies, Jaime learned quickly how to build relationships. The challenging aspect of working for a large company was having the ability to be creative. This is the main reason he went out on his own and started his own business. As time progressed, Jaime found that he really enjoyed making websites for people and so he started Slapshot Studio in 2013 and never looked back. Jaime enjoys traveling, boating, playing guitar, hanging out with family, and playing hockey. TWEET: Ep. 65: Jaime Jay - Don’t Let Others Fence in Your #Dreams How one guy successfully dealt with the fear of starting his own business. When Jaime Jay left his service in the 82nd Airborne division of the U.S. Army he wasn’t sure what he was going to do. He waited tables for a while then got into some corporate jobs where he learned a ton of things. One of those things was that he had enough ambition and dreams of his own that he really needed to start his own business. But it was scary. All of the uncertainties that come from not having a consistent paycheck and all of the responsibilities being on your shoulders were very present and very real for him. How do you deal with that kind of pressure successfully so you can move on and make your business a success? Jaime Jay shares his story on this episode of Chasing Dreams. He discovered that being stubborn and selfish are great things. Two things that Jaime Jay says were instrumental in his success are that he was stubborn and that he was selfish. What he means is this: You can’t stick with it during the hard times to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals if you aren’t stubborn. And you can’t expect to be a blessing or benefit to anyone else if you can’t first provide for yourself, so you’ve got to be determined (stubborn) and you’ve got to be clear on accomplishing what you want and need to accomplish (selfish). If you’ll take the time to hear how Jaime describes his perspective on those two things it will make a lot more sense to you and hopefully inspire you to put those two things to work for yourself. TWEET: #Leaders are always asked the #questions. When do they get to #ask their own? Leaders are always asked the questions. When do they get to ask their own? When Jaime Jay’s business team started to grow he discovered within a short amount of time that as the leader of the company, everybody came to him for answers. That was OK, he didn’t resent it or feel overwhelmed. But what he realized was that he didn’t have anyone that he could ask the questions he had. That’s when he first took the steps to get involved in a Mastermind group so that he could get help, insight, and benefit from the experiences of other leaders who were on the same business path that he was. Jaime has a lot of great things to say about masterminds and wants to encourage you to get into one as soon as you can. You can hear his challenge on this episode. Success is not in what you achieve, it’s in the goals you set. When it comes to business success most people measure it in terms of dollar signs. That’s a worthy aspiration and one that has to be in place in order to truly be profitable. But Jaime Jay says that he’s learned that viewing that long term goal as the measure of success is a sure way to become discouraged and impatient. Instead, he measures success by setting goals for each day and the accomplishment of those goals. That way he’s able to have victories every day, build momentum, and stay optimistic about the path he’s on and the ultimate results that will come from the little, daily victories. It’s a refreshing perspective that you can take away from this episode so be sure you listen to find out how Jaime implements it. Joel Sharpton fell backward into the radio business and found the perfect platform for his unstoppable motor-mouth. A voiceover artist, audio editor, audiobook narrator, happy father of four and lucky husband to one, you can find his blog, his podcasts and more at JoelSharpton.com. TWEET: Ep. 55: Joel Sharpton - Networking Helped Open Up Doors For Me Joel Sharpton kept working at it in order to become good at it. By trying a lot of things Joel Sharpton discovered that he wasn’t necessarily good at anything in particular but that he could get better at things by trying them. When Joel first stepped into the realm of radio Joel didn’t believe he had a great voice for radio but he got better and better the more he did it. On this episode of Chasing Dreams, you’re going to hear Joel describe how that process worked in his life and how you can build your skills and find your genius as you go along. How podcasting became a thing for Joel. Joel Sharpton is one of those guys that most of us think we have to be in order to get into podcasting. He had a background in radio so it seemed like a natural fit - and it was. But Joel is the first to tell you that a love for podcasts (not audio or radio) is what got him to create his own podcast. The more he listened the more he realized that he had something to say and that podcasting was the medium he could use to do it. Joel has lots of great advice for those who are considering podcasting so be sure you listen if you’ve even been thinking about trying out podcasting. TWEET: How podcasting became a thing for Joel Sharpton, on this episode “You’re not worried about bothering him, you’re worried about bothering you.” When Joel attended Podcast Movement 2015 he saw someone he had met on social media a few times across the room. His wife encouraged him to introduce himself and say a simple, “Hello.” But Joel’s excuse for not doing it was, “I don’t want to bother him.” That’s when his wife blew up his life and perspective by saying, “You’re not worried about bothering him, you’re worried about bothering you.” It was a push toward discomfort that was really uncomfortable for Joel but opened the door to possibilities that he was keeping himself from. On this episode you’re going to hear the story and how that simple phrase, said by someone who cared about him, changed the way Joel sees networking and connections, forever. Open the doors and allow yourself to meet the opportunities. Too many times the doors of opportunity are closed to us because we don’t even try to open them. That’s what Joel Sharpton was doing to himself by not introducing himself to people he’d already connected with via social media. He learned that taking a step into the unknown (and what could seem risky) is the only way to find out if an opportunity is lurking on the other side of the door. From a few simple and temporarily scary introductions Joel has been able to build an incredible network of people in the podcasting space and many of those connections have turned into lifelong friendships to boot. You can hear how Joel made the most of his own discomfort, on this episode of Chasing Dreams. TWEET: Open the doors and allow yourself to meet the opportunities. Subscribe on iTunes, Stitcher Radio or TuneIn I am thrilled about today's guest, Lakesha Cole. She's a business woman, mother of 3 and Marine Corps spouse and was selected as the 2014 Military Spouse of the Year® for her entrepreneurial prowess, volunteer efforts, and her support of the military community. I really enjoyed my talk with Lakesha, given her very unique story ... she is the CEO and owner of She Swank Too, which is a curated online children's boutique for girls. This dream-to-reality of owning a boutique started as an idea six years ago and today her brand has traveled to customers in all 50 states and four countries and as we'll cover in a few minutes, it lead to the opening of her first successful pop-up shop in Okinawa, Japan where she and her family are currently stationed. Today's conversation with Rosetta brings insight and revelation from Reverend Jenenne Macklin. She is a licensed clinical therapist with a master's degree in social work, now working as the Spirit and Riches coach. During her time in the field, Reverend Jenenne helped countless people change their lives, but found a serious lack of self value in women. The Reverend had every reason to not value herself, either. She journeyed through debt, being fired, and desperately attempting to regain control of her life. Jenenne speaks with authority because she worked her way up from the bottom. She began her life's work of instilling in women that who you are brings the value to every role you are in. Listen in as Jenenne propels you into making peace with your money by changing your mindset. [Tweet "How to Transform Your Relationship with Money with @JenenneM"] How you think about yourself impacts how you handle your money. Reverend Jenenne's mission is, “To empower women to know their value, to impact and transform their relationship with money.” She started out with a mixed up relationship with money. Jenenne, not understanding the implications, started accruing credit card debt early on in college. Much to her surprise, the debt and irresponsible choices stayed with her and her credit score. She spent time evading creditors and wondering how to regain control over her finances and her life. Jenenne began to see patterns of thinking and believing but could not seem to change herself or her clients. Untangling self worth from what you do to who you are connected Jenenne's spirituality to her business of coaching. Can you relate? Listen in and let Jenenne's journey motivate you! Moving from fear to faith. Do you think you're the only entrepreneur with debt? Or the only one with habits of spending money on shoes? Do you think no one else is struggling with historical residue or an ingrained idea of how things are “supposed” to be? Jenenne recommends similar action steps that she took to reboot her thinking. Hear how she involved her spirituality in pursuing business ownership. She moved herself away from a victim mentality to confidently controlling her money. Jenenne offers proven prosperity principles to help you make peace with money. She picked up the phone and called her creditors instead of running from them. Even though it was scary, she made a budget. She asked herself, and will ask you, “Do I want a different kind of life? Or these shoes?” Learn how Reverend Jenenne put this plan into action on this episode. [Tweet "Reframing the stories in your head about money and self-worth, on this episode"] Strategies to stay in alignment with your values and move forward. Whether you are a first generation entrepreneur or not, you will be met with resistance as you move forward. Reverend Jenenne rediscovered her value, but not without obstacles to overcome. She examined what voices she was surrounded by and if she needed to leave some circles of people behind. Are you in a conversation of support? Do you only hear discouragement? Jenenne knows first-hand that you cannot survive this journey alone. She advises simple but powerful strategies to keep you in line with the changes you'll need to make. On this episode, Reverend Jenenne walks us through the strategies she implements daily, from waking in the morning until she falls asleep at night. She offers a fancy way of saying, “No” when discouraging voices leak in. Listen in for ways you can implement lasting habits to daily set yourself up for success. Bringing the missing pieces to your business. How did Jenenne find that missing piece and connect her spirituality to her business? Rosetta ends this conversation with Jenenne's best advice and an anthem to know yourself and your value. The shift to understanding her own value changed Jenenne's path. She is ready for you to change your path, too. She shares resources, authors, books, websites and endless help for your journey. Jenenne divulges what inspires her and how she stands her ground in continued prosperity. You'll find wisdom and inspiration from Reverend Jenenne's journey on this episode of Happy Black Woman. Following your dreams even when the deck is stacked against you. If being a dream chaser was easy, everyone would do it. In Aimee's chat with Joe Pardo of The Dreamers Podcast, she finds out how Joe pursued his dreams in spite of the many things standing in his way. With a passion for helping others that goes back to early childhood, Joe knew his life’s purpose would be in that area. However, a multi-million dollar family business and high expectations to maintain a connection to it prevented Joe from following those dreams for many years. Joe discusses the importance of letting go of what you can’t control in order to pave the way for a dream chaser’s life. Even though there were many naysayers along the way, Joe pressed forward and created a life that’s all about helping others. TWEET: A hard deal is a bad deal. Find out more on this episode of #ChasingDreams The difficulty of leaving the family business and choosing the road less travelled. The obvious choice for Joe - at least to outsiders - was to work at the successful family business. That was the easy path; that was what was expected of him. The problem? That’s now what made Joe happy. Joe shares the difficulty of owning his dreams and breaking with tradition - no matter what anyone else said. Although Joe had the support of his grandparents from a very early age, things weren’t so easy with the rest of his family. Because Joe knew in his heart that his dreams were worth chasing, he opted out of his family business in early 2014 and followed his dreams with everything he had. Joe discusses the fear and uncertainty that comes with pursuing your passions and why it’s worth every sacrifice. Facing your fears when you go after what you want in life. Dream chasing comes with sacrifice; with hard work; and with overcoming doubt. Joe shares the importance of facing your fears when you decide to go “all in” in pursuit of your dreams. Trying things outside of your comfort zone certainly falls under the “fear facing” category, which Joe explains is another key to finding your way to happiness. As Joe found his way to the dream life he wanted, he managed to develop multiple businesses, podcasts, a business school, and eventually wrote 2 books. He explains how he juggles it all and still leaves room for new dreams for the future. TWEET: Why you must face your fears to follow your dreams. On this episode of #ChasingDreams The inspiration behind Joe’s 2 books and how he brought them to life. From an early age, Joe knew he wanted to help others. His earliest dream was to become a child psychologist. As he allowed that dream to evolve into the life he’s created for himself, his desire to help people never left him. Joe understood the value of sharing his passion with others and the rewards that would come with it. He was inspired to write 2 books that helped him connect with a broader audience and, therefore, help even more people. His books, entitled 31 Life-Changing Concepts and How to Dream Big and Win quickly became passion projects that helped Joe spread the word about his work. Pursuing multiple dreams and how they all work together. When you find your passion, your purpose, your dream, it’s not uncommon for those things to continue to evolve. With this evolution may come new dreams, which should by all means be pursued. According to Joe, once he discovered that he had multiple dreams, it was pretty clear that they all worked together to build the life he’s always wanted. By not setting limits, it’s possible to find many ways to share your dreams with others. At the close of his chat with Aimee J., Joe shares his advice for fellow dream chasers and explains what’s next for him. Today's guest, Jesse Krieger is an amazing example of the kind of life you can live if you strategically take action to make it happen. His publishing company, Lifestyle Entrepreneur Press is based around his personal success as a best-selling author, with his book hitting #1 in the Personal Success category on Amazon. He's leveraged his success to help other entrepreneurs who desire to build a brand or business around a book get that book published and ranking high on the best-seller charts as well. In this conversation with Rosetta Thurman, Jesse shares some of his story and practical tips about heading into a life that allows you the freedom and income to pursue your dreams. You won't want to miss this! [Tweet "You can leverage a book to build your entire business. Find out how on this episode"] You can build a brand and a business around a book, and Jesse Krieger is the man to show you how! Even if you wrote a best-selling book that would likely not be the means by which you'd gain a ton of income. But the content of the book does a number of things for you. #1 - it enables you to have a “business card” that is a book, a way for you to demonstrate your expertise in a tangible publication that people naturally respect. #2 - it lays the groundwork for you to build additional content off the topics you cover in the book, anything from online courses and video sets, to live events and speaking engagements. There's no limit to the ways you can leverage a book, if you know how to do it the right way. Today's guest, Jesse Krieger, is the man to help you do it, so be sure you listen to this episode of the Happy Black Woman! Start rough and improve as you go. Jesse Krieger may be a best-selling author and a publisher, but his success didn't happen on the first take. In this conversation he tells how he created a small, partly finished book, then modified it by adding more content, then continued to tweak and update it as he went along. That enabled him to get something finished and continue to build. Alongside his improvements, his business was growing at the same time. It's a philosophy he subscribes to and suggests that you follow. Don't wait for your “thing” to be perfect before you release it. Get it out there and make improvements as you go. That's how you learn what your market wants and needs and it's how you get yourself rolling toward creating the great things you have in mind. Learn Jesse's thoughts on this important issue by listening to this episode. Have you heard of the “big rocks' philosophy of goal setting? Jesse Krieger refers to an illustration his mentor taught him that uses a jar, large rocks, small rocks, sand, and water. It's a great way to conceptualize how you should go about prioritizing things in your life and business. The original illustration was taught by Stephen Covey and it continues to be a guiding principle for many entrepreneurs and business people today. You can see the illustration in this video, or even better, listen to this episode of the Happy Black Woman Podcast to hear how today's guest, Jesse Krieger, uses the concept to move his publishing empire forward month by month. You want freedom? Then you'll have to develop structure in your life. That may sound a bit counterintuitive, but it's actually very logical. Freedom is like any other goal, you have to put things in place that will enable it to happen. You can't just live a free flowing life and expect your desired freedom to come about. Jesse Krieger, today's guest, suggests that you need to put the systems and tools in place that enable you to manage the demands of life in a way that affords you the freedom of lifestyle and time that you want. If you don't, you'll be at the beck and call of whatever comes your way. Find out how Jesse does it on this episode. [Tweet "If you want lifestyle freedom it's going to require structure. Tara Jefferson was a new mom with lots of dreams, but she was still in college and didn't have what she considers a “real” job to support her new family. She made a commitment to herself then and there that by the time her daughter was 2 years old she would be supporting herself in her own business. That's some unusual grit, but Tara had it, and her dream has become what is now www.YoungMommyLife.com, a blog and resource for young mothers. Tara's site provides teaching, advice, support, and encouragement for young moms who want to be great moms and even better women. In this episode Tara's going to share her journey with you, the ups and downs, the struggles, and the victories. You're sure to get a lot of encouragement and ideas from this great episode. [Tweet "How @TheYoungMommy went from broke college mom to successful mommy blogger - listen here"] You have to take care of yourself. Many young mothers are determined to prove to the world that they can be a great mom. That's a great goal. It shows the kind of determination needed to be a young mother. But many times that determination translates into a work ethic that denies that she, the mom in question, has very legitimate needs herself. In that scenario she usually winds up giving and giving to others without filling up her own tank. Tara Jefferson has made it her goal to build a site and community that supports those moms and offers them a load of resources to make sure that they are able to take care of themselves first. You can hear Tara's journey story to her successful mommy-support business in this great conversation. She tracks her time to make herself aware of where she's not being productive. In this conversation one of the intriguing topics that came up was personal productivity and goal setting. Rosetta asked her guest, Tara Jefferson, how she goes about keeping herself productive in any given week. Tara shared a simple but very effective tool that has helped her stick to her priorities and get things done. She used a free “time tracking” app to keep track of what projects she's doing and how long it takes her to get them done. Doing this enabled her to see what she's doing repeatedly that is a time waster, how much time she should allot for typical tasks like writing a blog post, and how she can streamline her workflow to get more done. It's a valuable tip she shared on this episode, and there are lots more where it came from, so make sure you listen. [Tweet "A powerful productivity tool for your business…in this episode of the Happy Black Woman Podcast"] What is freedom, to you? That's a question Rosetta likes to ask all of her guests, and today's guest, Tara Jefferson answered in a very common sense way. Freedom for Tara is being able to make her own decisions about what she's going to do everyday. If she wants to start work early, she can. If she wants to start later, that's up to her. If she would like to take the day off to go to an activity at her child's school, she can do it. She doesn't have to ask anyone. She doesn't need permission. She's able to adjust her schedule and plug things in where they make the most sense on any given day. That, to her, is an amazing freedom she didn't even know she'd love so much. Tara shares so much, in such a genuine way, on this episode. An event for moms who need a time of refreshing. One of the things Tara Jefferson loves to do most is to host events for women to come together, learn, get a break from the responsibilities of everyday life, and build relationships of support that can sustain them over the long haul. She's done quite a few of these events to date. If you're interested in connecting with women in a supportive, encouraging environment, this is the event for you. You can find out more details about the event at www.YMLRetreat.EventBright.com. It’s an uncontested fact that keeping yourself in shape will yield great results in your life and business. And when it comes to chasing your dreams, poor health is one of the things that could derail you. In this episode Aimee invited her sister, Gina, to come and informally chat with her about running as a great way to stay in shape. Even if you’re not a runner or don’t think you are, you can glean a lot from this episode. Maybe it will inspire you to find the type of exercise that fits your preferences and lifestyle. TWEET: Considering becoming a runner? Advice from Aimee and Gina J. on this episode Running isn’t always about finishing with a fast time. It’s really only the top performers or professional athletes that try to finish a race or a course within a certain amount of time. For all you Dream Chasers who are considering running simply to stay in shape, the goal will be very different. You may set your goals by running a certain pace, or by simply finishing the course. Whatever goals you choose, you can improve your health significantly by taking up running. In this episode of Chasing Dreams Aimee chats with her sister Gina about their running journey. Running should be fun! Both Aimee and her sister Gina believe that running should be a fun thing. It’s hard to imagine for someone who’s never done much running. You see those people laboring away on the side of the road and wonder how it could be fun. The fun is sometimes in the actual run, but also in the fact that you are learning how to endure. When you’re finished with your run, you’ll feel better and be glad. And you’ll be building up a strong mindset that helps you endure not only your daily run, but other aspects of your life as well. TWEET: Running should be fun! Here are some tips for how to make it fun You can become a runner, really. That doesn’t mean you have to be an ultra marathon runner or a person who runs 10 miles every day. You can start by running for one minute, then walking for the next minute, and running for another minute again. There’s nothing wrong with that kind of pace and could be just as effective as running nonstop. Whatever you do, it’s more than you did the day before and more than you would do if you stayed at home on the couch. The point is that you can get started today getting yourself into better shape, and running is one of the easiest ways to do it. Listen to Aimee and Gina’s tips about getting started on this episode of Chasing Dreams. Tips for better runs Just get started - just do it. The more you think about it the more you talk yourself out of it. Use running apps or music to keep your mind in a positive place. Get good running shoes, not what you get at WalMart. Run with someone else: The accountability and companionship make it easier. Modify the way you run. One minute running, one minute walking is fine. TWEET: How to use power songs to make your daily run better OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [0:06] Explanation of some “strange” things you may hear in this episode. In today's Q&A, we are helping Laura figure out what she needs to create to be successful (even though she's shy on camera) in her online business. Do you have a question you want answered on our podcast? We would love to help you! Click here to ask your question! [Tweet "How can you best deliver value to your perfect customer? @katelerickson"] Resources Mentioned in this Episode Today's Expert is Kate Erickson of EntrepreneurOnFire.com Check out Kate's podcast Let's dive into this week's question! JOCELYN: Hey y'all! You're listening to an expert Q&A with S&J. Today's expert is Kate Erickson of Kate's Take, the Entrepreneur on Fire audio blog. Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast where life always comes before work. We're your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. Join us, each week, as we teach you how to flip your lifestyle upside-down by selling stuff online. Are you ready for something different? All right, let's get started. SHANE: What's going on guys, welcome back to the Flipped Lifestyle Expert Q&A with S&J. Jocelyn and I always say, we do not have all the answers and you send us so many questions, sometimes we just scratch our heads. So we wanted to start bringing on some experts to really give you guys the best answers to the questions that you send us. We are really excited today, to have a special guest on our show; it is Kate Erickson from Kate's Take, the Entrepreneur on Fire audio blog and Entrepreneuronfire.com. Kate, welcome to the show. KATE: Shane and Jocelyn, thank you guys so much for inviting me on, I'm stoked to be here. JOCELYN: Yeah, we are very excited to have you and I know that our listeners will love your advice for them. SHANE: That's right. JOCELYN: So, let's start out with today's first question; this is from Laura and Laura says, “I'm so confused about what to create. Everything I hear and read online says I need a blog, a podcast, a YouTube channel, a webinar to speak live, etcetera to be successful. Where should I start? I'm a little scared because I hate talking and being on camera. Do I need all that to make it? I'm a little overwhelmed and would love some advice.” SHANE: We get this question all the time Kate, because you know, people, I think they see a lot of people doing all these things and so they think they have to too. So what's your take on that? What do you think about this question? Where do they need to start at? KATE: Well, I can totally relate to Laura and I think this is such a timely question because there's so much information out there and Shane to your point, there's a lot of people who are able to do it all, but that's because they have built their business over years of work and so they are able to dabble in all these different areas. But, my best piece of advice for Laura would be to focus. So, you really wanna start by figuring out what are your biggest strengths, how can you best deliver value to your perfect customer. So is that through a blog, is that through a YouTube channel, is that through a podcast? You wanna just start by figuring out how you can best deliver that content and focus on that one medium and then after you've gotten to the point where you are actually delivering consistent, valuable content through that one medium, then you can start to kinda look out at all the other options that are out there for you. SHANE: So let's look at that, just maybe, as an example; let's say you were starting out, okay, what medium would you choose to communicate with, and maybe, what's the one social network that you would focus on, if you were just starting out today? KATE: Yeah, well, I can take it back to the day I joined Entrepreneur on Fire and it was very clear to me that writing was a strength of mine and it's also something that I was also really passionate about. So the very first thing that I did when I started here at Entrepreneur on Fire was I started writing our blog and that's how I started out.

Pure and simple. Their spouses aren't the only ones who sacrifice and serve. A few months ago I (Kat) was talking to the young man who carried out my groceries at the store. He told me what his plans were after high school and in the middle of his monologue he said this, "I thought about joining the military, but I love my freedom too much." The irony and weight of that statement made the rest of his story a blur. The fact is, those who serve in the military and their spouses are quite literally surrendering their freedom to give us ours. They surrender the freedom of choosing where they will live. They surrender the freedom of deciding how often they will be together. They surrender the freedom of choosing safety and comfort. So to all of you out there who are in the military or married to someone in the military...thank you. Cultivating community Military wives create community in warp speed. They don't have the luxury of having years and years to make friends. Kristin has learned the value of and being brave and valuing the possibility of connection over the fear of rejection. She challenges us to make the most of our relationships by "being brave, being vulnerable and making the first move." Click to Tweet: "How to create community: Be brave. Be vulnerable. Make the first move." - Kristin Strong Hope for the teenage years Kristin encourages us that the teenage years have been unexpectedly fun. Most of us have heard horror stories about the teenage years, but Kristin shares why they've been a wonderfully pleasant surprise for her. We discuss that one powerful way to make the teenage years a positive time is to consistently have "face time" with our kids now in the early years. Sowing our attention into them now is likely going to bring a harvest of them valuing our attention and opinion later. Quick Links 1.
