The definitive story of Hollywood's most famous couple. He was a tough-guy Welshman softened by the affections of a breathtakingly beautiful woman; she was a modern-day Cleopatra madly in love with her own Mark Antony. For nearly a quarter of a century, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were Hollywood royalty, and their fiery romanceoften called "the marriage of the century"was the most notorious, publicized, and celebrated love affair of its day.For the first time, Vanity Fair contributing editor Sam Kashner and acclaimed biographer Nancy Schoenberger tell the complete story of this larger-than-life couple, showing how their romance and two marriages commanded the attention of the world. Also for the first time, in exclusive access given to the authors, Elizabeth Taylor herself gives never-revealed details and firsthand accounts of her life with Burton.Drawing upon brand-new information and interviewsand on Burton's private, passionate, and heartbreaking letters to TaylorFurious Love sheds new light on the movies, the sex, the scandal, the fame, the brawls, the booze, the bitter separations, and, of course, the fabled jewels. It offers an intimate glimpse into Elizabeth and Richard's privileged world and their elite circle of friends, among them Princess Grace, Montgomery Clift, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Peter O'Toole, Michael Caine, Marlon Brando, Rex Harrison, Mike Nichols, Laurence Olivier, Robert Kennedy, Tennessee Williams, Noël Coward, John Huston, Ava Gardner, the Rothschilds, Maria Callas, and Aristotle Onassis. It provides an entertaining, eye-opening look at their films, their wildly lucrative reign in Europe and in Hollywoodand the price they paid for their extravagant lives.Shocking and unsparing in its honesty, Furious Love explores the very public marriage of "Liz and Dick" as well as the private struggles of Elizabeth and Richard, including Le Scandale, their affair on the set of the notorious epic Cleopatra that earned them condemnation from the Vatican; Burton's hardscrabble youth in Wales; the crippling alcoholism that nearly destroyed his career and contributed to his early death; the medical issues that plagued both him and Elizabeth; and the failed aspirations and shame that haunted him throughout their relationship. As Kashner and Schoenberger illuminate the events and choices that shaped this illustrious couple's story, they demonstrate how the legendary pair presaged America's changing attitudes toward sex, marriage, morality, and celebrity. Yet ultimately, as the authors show, Elizabeth and Richard shared something priceless beyond the drama: enduring love.Addictive and entertaining, Furious Love is more than a celebrity biography; it's an honest yet sympathetic portrait of a man, a woman, and a passion that shocked and mesmerized the world.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/writers-on-film. Dane Ortland, pastor of Naperville Presbyterian Church in Chicago and author of Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers, says that if “Jesus really does loves my screwed up life then I think I can keep on being a Christian.” Then, God created everything. He’s named every single star, and he treasures us above all he’s made! Next, it’s taken Perry a lifetime to get there. But he finally, deeply, believes it: “God loves me!” Then, every time Perry goes to the fitness room he thinks about his friend Andy, it’s the strangest thing! It’s a conversation about praying for each other. Next, Jesus says, “You don’t have to go through security to get to me; I am the mostapproachable person in the universe.” Last, Shawna wonders, “How can my God, whose heart I know is filled with love let a 3 year old suffocate or a 16 year old die of cancer?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Here's another great episode pulled from the Author Talks with Shaun Tabatt archives. This time around it's my talk with Robby Dawkins about his transformational book Do What Jesus Did: A Real-Life Field Guide to Healing the Sick, Routing Demons and Changing Lives Forever (Chosen Books, 2013). About the Book: The things Jesus did are not just for Bible times. They are for today. For everyone. Chicagoland pastor Robby Dawkins sees this again and again in his ministry to hurting people and even to gang members. Everyday people are seeing God's power unleashed through simple faith in God's Word; they are healing the sick, routing demons, and making a dynamic impact for the Kingdom of God. But many other believers are missing out, unaware that they have far more power and authority than they realize. Dawkins shares dynamic, real-life instruction and amazing stories from the front lines of ministry, showing that believers carry the authority of the Son of God and the power of the Holy Spirit wherever they are. When we walk in the presence and authority of God, we will do what Jesus did. About the Author: Robby is a fifth-generation pastor who was born to missionary parents in Japan. Robby had an early start in ministry. In his father's church, he began a children's ministry at the age of 12, and became the youth minister at 16 years old. Robby says, “I knew from a young age that God had called me into ministry. My parents say that from the age of 2, I told people that I would grow up and be a missionary.” In many ways that has been the case in Robby's life. Robby and his wife Angie have been married for 25+ years and have 6 sons. He served as a youth pastor for 12 years for churches between 50 to 14,000 members before he and Angie planted a Vineyard church in the downtown area of Aurora, Illinois (Chicago area) in 1996. 70% of their church came to Christ at their church and 60% of that through Power encounters (Prophetic, Healing, Deliverance or ministry of God's manifest presence). The mayor of Aurora along with its chief of police bestowed upon Robby and the Church an acknowledgment that he and the church made a significant difference in Aurora's crime rate reduction. Robby also ministers extensively as a conference speaker and a passionate Church equipper (in the U.S. and in 53 countries) equipping in Power Evangelism. He was most recently featured in the movies “Furious Love” in 2010, “Father of Lights” in 2012, “Holy Ghost Reborn” in 2015. His book “Do What Jesus Did “was released in June 2013 and is on several Best Sellers lists in the UK, US and Europe. He then added “Identity Thief”, which was released in October 2015. Steve DeNeff - Mark 11:12-19. It is common, today, to hear religious people say that God is love. Isn’t that what the Bible says? But has anyone wondered what His love is capable of? Have they wondered if there are not, perhaps, sides to it that we have not seen and will not accept? These two stories, told on the way to Jerusalem, reveal how loyal and furious is the love of God, such that we do not want to be on the wrong side of it. Apparently this can happen even to those safe inside the “temple” system. Can it happen to us? If so, how should this inform the God we worship? What God have we worshiped that, perhaps, should die on the road to Jerusalem?

This week we welcome pastor and author Brian Zahnd. Brian Zahnd is the founder and lead pastor of Word of Life Church, a non-denominational Christian congregation in Saint Joseph, Missouri. In his famous sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” Puritan revivalist Jonathan Edwards shaped predominating American theology with a vision of God as angry, violent, and retributive. Three centuries later, Brian Zahnd was both mesmerized and terrified by Edwards's wrathful God. Haunted by fear that crippled his relationship with God, Zahnd spent years praying for a divine experience of hell. What Zahnd experienced instead was the Father's love—revealed perfectly through Jesus Christ—for all prodigal sons and daughters. brianzahnd.com www.facebook.com/BrianZahnd Get empowered to carry heaven and shift culture from some of today's leading Kingdom voices. (23:01 - 24:19) Where to go online to connect with Darren and pick up God Adventures and watch Adventures with God. (24:20 - 24:38) About the Book: For many people, Christianity has become an institution of rules, duty, and potlucks. But for filmmaker Darren Wilson, his life of cultural Christianity changed radically when a powerful encounter with God led him to begin making films that attempted to display the God of the Bible in living color. What happened over the next ten years has affected millions around the world, and has set fires ablaze in hearts that have long sat dormant. God Adventures is an honest and compelling book about the events surrounding the making of these powerful films (Finger of God, Furious Love, Father of Lights, Holy Ghost, and Holy Ghost Reborn), and is designed to take you into a deeper, more fulfilling and, yes, riskier relationship with God. Like Darren's films, this book focuses on: God's miraculous power and overpowering love. A Father desperately pursuing His children. The often misunderstood third Person of the Trinity and His relationship to the modern believer. God's dominance over other gods and supernatural powers. How the Holy Spirit wants to use everyone to bring change and healing to the world, not just professional ministers. Christianity was never meant to be a social club—it was meant to change the world. God Adventures provides biblical insight for the supernatural occurrences documented in Darren's films, along with behind-the-scenes stories that will inspire, engage, and challenge you to not settle for less than experiencing all of God. About the Author: Darren Wilson is the Founder of Wanderlust Productions, a film/television production company that focuses on creating media that creatively and powerfully advances the kingdom of God around the world. Darren's films have been seen by millions around the world. His first five films, Finger of God, Furious Love, Father of Lights, Holy Ghost, and Holy Ghost Reborn have helped change the spiritual temperature of the worldwide church. He is currently working on a new film and a variety of television shows. Darren has also written two books, Filming God, which details his journey out of skepticism into faith in the supernatural; and his latest, Finding God in the Bible, which is a book about friendship with God. He also has a regular blog for Charisma Magazine called Behind the Lens, where he writes about current events, spiritual questions, and the entertainment industry. Devon Franklin, VP of Production for Columbia Pictures, calls Darren “one of the most innovative filmmakers and authors of faith today.” Darren lives with his wife, Jenell, and their three children, Serenity, Stryder, and River in Greenville, SC. What is it about this little four-chapter book that captures our imagination? A man being swallowed by a fish? Sounds bizarre, perhaps even unbelievable, yet Jesus seems to suggest there is something about this story that bears great significance. So much more than a cute children’s Bible story, Jonah reveals that the darkness in the world is often as close as our own heart. On Sunday, April 15th we will begin a 6-week series from the book of Jonah. We will discover the choice Jonah faced between pursuing his own selfish pleasure and God’s will is the same choice we each face. It is the same choice Jesus faced as he considered the cross. As we explore the depths of Jonah’s pain and struggles, we discover our own painful struggle with pride and selfishness. We will also see how God meets us in those dark places and uses even our failures to accomplish his greater purposes.
