This week we celebrated our one year anniversary as well as Brandon's birthday. Also our first foreign film we've done on the show, fingers crossed you watching along with us so you can enjoy all the jokes as much as we did
Ding ding ding!!!! Ladies and gentlemen and children of all ages!!! Welcome to tonight's fights. We have a heck of a show for you with people punching people and hilarious hijinks. Hold onto your beer, cause it is going to get foamy. The 1985 film Gymkata set out to answer the question: is gymnastics a kick-ass martial arts style? The film then quickly answered that question with a resounding "no." Though Austin Powers eventually won the fight in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Mini Me definitely messed him up. The round two battle of Austin Powers in Goldmember, however, was all Austin. The fight scene from They Live is both epic and completely ludicrous. . Both men landed devastating blows, but no matter what, they kept getting up. Every time the fight seemed settled, it started back up again for another brutal round. No person could possibly take the beating Frank and Nada gave each other. The 2004 adaptation of The Punisher is a very dark tale of a man getting revenge for the murder of his family. The battle between Frank Castle and The Russian packs the punches and the laughs. Frank's gun is no good because the Russian bends the barrel, and even a grenade proves useless. The comedy comes from the question of what it takes to defeat the Russian. As it turns out, a pot of boiling water does the trick. The Clone Wars is often regarded as one of the weakest films in the Star Wars franchise, and part of that could be the completely ridiculous Anikan Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber duel against Count Dooku. Obi-Wan is easily incapacitated and Anakin gets his hand cut off during some of the lamest choreography in the franchise. As if the fight wasn't silly enough, Yoda comes in to save the day, and none of his flips or moves is enough to defeat Dooku. Picking the funniest fight scene from Kung Fu Hustle is like choosing the most unsettling scene from Human Centipede; there are so many to select from. The Landlady and her husband, the Landlord, are Kung Fu masters, but they are no match for the legendary assassin, the Beast. Each ridiculous attack launched by the couple is thwarted by the Beast in an even more hysterical fashion. The fight plays out like a Three Stooges slapstick comedy with over-the-top martial arts violence. In the movie Airplane!, Captain Oveur inappropriately asks Joey if he likes movies about Gladiators, and the fight scene from Spartacus is almost certainly why. The 1960 Stanley Kubrick classic features plenty of oily combat that was more like dancing than fighting, but the Spartacus/Draba match-up was the least convincing. What was supposed to be a fight to the death looked more like two sweaty guys trying really hard not to hurt each other. All of this lazy choreography was sluggishly executed by grown men in diapers, making it one of the most unintentionally funny fight scenes in cinematic history. Of course, I am just cribbing from CBR (https://www.cbr.com/funny-movie-fight-scenes-ranked/). But that is because I am lazy. Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer isn't just a film—it's a cultural knockout. Dive into the cult classic that fused kung fu chaos with soccer slapstick, creating a genre-defying masterpiece. How did Chow's ragtag Shaolin monks, armed with flaming soccer balls and CGI animal auras, satirize hyper-capitalism while reviving martial arts pride? dissect the film's underdog magic, from Ng Man-tat's redemption arc to Mui's Tai Chi triumph, and explore its biting critique of doping scandals and corporate greed. Discover why Team Evil's steroid-fueled antics still mirror today's sports controversies and how Chow's absurd humor inspired Kung Fu Hustle and beyond. Was that 1,000-0 victory scene the wildest sports moment ever filmed? Plus, unpack the legacy of a movie that broke box office records, redefined Hong Kong cinema, and proved that bending soccer balls—and societal norms—could spark a global revolution. Shaolin Soccer analysis, martial arts comedy films, Stephen Chow cinema legacy, sports movie satire, kung fu soccer impact.
Happy Lunar New Year! It's the year of the snake, and it's time for reflection, growth and careful decision-making. Sing (Stephen Chow) experiences all of this. In 1940's Shanghai, Sing and his friend Bone (Tze-Chung Lam) try and fail at grifting their way into a housing complex. They turn to the Axe Gang for assistance and recruitment, and they fail at that as well. The Axe Gang is also extremely unhappy with the powers that Landlord (Wah Yuen) and Landlady (Qiu Yuen) have because they are able to defend where they live. The gang then break an undefeated killer, The Beast (Siu-Lung Leung), out of an asylum to seek vengeance. Once Sing realizes what is right and when he stops robbing Fong (Shengyi Huang) and her ice-cream money, he is able to harness his chi and become the kung fu genius these citizens need. True ultimate power! RTS checks out the local cuisine. La-Mar takes flight and jumps off an eagle. Jeremy attempts to roundhouse his way out of a “class 3 kill storm.” Look inward and find what you need.

Arne valgte ut fire filmer som illustrerer hans filmsmak: «Paths of Glory» «The Good, The Bad and The Ugly» «The Thing» «2001: A Space Odyssey» Verter: Daniel Stølan, Anders Hassel og Arne Johann Digernes.Få full oversikt, blant annet over "den store SKSD-lista" på vår nettside: sksdpodcast.substack.comSend gjerne feedback og spørsmål til sksd.podcast@gmail.comFølg oss på instagram @sksd_podcast

Kung Fu Hustle, directed by and starring Stephen Chow, its an equal mix of comedy and Chinese martial arts. This film is considered one of the best in its genre and also one of the best films to come out of Chinese cinema. Despite paying homage to many western films, it is still able to stand on its own, and within us it's one of our favorite wuxia films to watch. In diesem Sinne: Hooroo! In 2004, Stephen Chow followed up Shaolin Soccer's break in the US with Kung Fu Hustle. This movie is full of ideas, heart, and bad special effects. How does it hold up 20 years after it was released? Does Kung Fu Hustle still have the moves to be relevant, and launch itself into the Action Movie Hall of Fame? Or will it not be able to reach the heights it wants, even with the help of a Falcon.

Both Chad and I missed this one in 2004 when it came out in theatres because the marketing made it seem a little wacky. Boy, were we wrong. This is a *great* movie and if you haven't seen it for whatever reason, you really should give it a go. We had a really fun time talking through this movie and enjoyed it immensely. Ricky and Gary were late to release this one because we have been getting our chakras in order. We have been training hard with these crazy monks learning our ball handling skills. When a rag tag team of former monks get an opportunity at glory on the soccer field, they use their mystical powers to battle the opposition and beat Team Evil in gravity defying fashion. This stars the great Steven Chow who is the star of Kung Fu Hustle. Put on your busted cleats and light your smoke. No red cards allowed in this match. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
