Chapter 17 - Bathilda's SecretHarry, stop.” “What's wrong?” They had only just reached the grave of the unknown Abbott. “There's someone there. Someone watching us. I can tell. There, over by the bushes.”Q1 - What do you think of the monuments to the Potters? Was it possible that she had been waiting for them all these long months? That Dumbledore had told her to wait, and that Harry would come in the end? Was it not likely that it was she who had moved in the shadows in the graveyard and had followed them to this spot? Even her ability to sense them suggested some Dumbledore-ish power that he had never encountered before. Q2 - What would you have done in this situation? The dust vanished from the photographs, and he saw at once that half a dozen were missing from the largest and most ornate frames. He wondered whether Bathilda or somebody else had removed them. Then the sight of a photograph near the back of the collection caught his eye, and he snatched it up. It was the golden-haired, merry-faced thief, the young man who had perched on Gregorovitch's windowsill, smiling lazily up at Harry out of the silver frame. And it came to Harry instantly where he had seen the boy before: in The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore, arm in arm with the teenage Dumbledore, and that must be where all the missing photographs were: in Rita's book. Q3 - Who is this? Then she closed her eyes and several things happened at once: Harry's scar prickled painfully; the Horcrux twitched so that the front of his sweater actually moved; the dark, fetid room dissolved momentarily. He felt a leap of joy and spoke in a high, cold voice: Hold him! Q4 - How chilling is this? And his scream was Harry's scream, his pain was Harry's pain . . . that it could happen here, where it had happened before . . . here, within sight of that house where he had come so close to knowing what it was to die . . . to die. . . . The pain was so terrible . . . ripped from his body. . . . But if he had no body, why did his head hurt so badly; if he was dead, how could he feel so unbearably, didn't pain cease with death, didn't it go . . . He forced the door open, cast aside the chair and boxes hastily piled against it with one lazy wave of his wand . . . and there she stood, the child in her arms. At the sight of him, she dropped her son into the crib behind her and threw her arms wide, as if this would help, as if in shielding him from sight she hoped to be chosen instead. . . . “Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry!” “Stand aside, you silly girl . . . stand aside, now.” “Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead —” “This is my last warning —” “Not Harry! Please . . . have mercy . . . have mercy. . . . Not Harry! Not Harry! Please — I'll do anything —” “Stand aside. Stand aside, girl!” He could have forced her away from the crib, but it seemed more prudent to finish them all. . . .Q5 - Does any of this info give you hints or clues as to what is going on?And then he broke: He was nothing, nothing but pain and terror, and he must hide himself, not here in the rubble of the ruined house, where the child was trapped and screaming, but far away . . . far away. . . . “No,” he moaned. The snake rustled on the filthy, cluttered floor, and he had killed the boy, and yet he was the boy. . . . “No . . .” And now he stood at the broken window of Bathilda's house, immersed in memories of his greatest loss, and at his feet the great snake slithered over broken china and glass. . . . He looked down and saw something . . . something incredible. . . . “No . . .” “Harry, it's all right, you're all right!” He stooped down and picked up the smashed photograph. There he was, the unknown thief, the thief he was seeking. . .Q6 - What is going on here? “You're the one who needs sleep. No offense, but you look terrible. I'm fine. I'll keep watch for a while. Where's my wand?” She did not answer, she merely looked at him. “Where's my wand, Hermione?” She was biting her lip, and tears swam in her eyes. “Harry . . .” “Where's my wand?” She reached down beside the bed and held it out to him. The holly and phoenix wand was nearly severed in two. One fragile strand of phoenix feather kept both pieces hanging together. The wood had splintered apart completely. Harry took it into his hands as though it was a living thing that had suffered a terrible injury. He could not think properly: Everything was a blur of panic and fear. Then he held out the wand to Hermione. “Lumos!” The wand sparked feebly, then went out. Harry pointed it at Hermione. “Expelliarmus!” Hermione's wand gave a little jerk, but did not leave her hand. The feeble attempt at magic was too much for Harry's wand, which split into two again. He stared at it, aghast, unable to take in.Q7 - Do they really stand a chance now?Chapter 18 - The Life and Lies of Albus DumbledoreNever, until this moment, had he felt himself to be fatally weakened, vulnerable, and naked, as though the best part of his magical power had been torn from him.Q1 - Harry has lost the protection of the twin cores…what now?And his fury at Dumbledore broke over him now like lava, scorching him inside, wiping out every other feeling. Out of sheer desperation they had talked themselves into believing that Godric's Hollow held answers, convinced themselves that they were supposed to go back, that it was all part of some secret path laid out for them by Dumbledore; but there was no map, no plan. Dumbledore had left them to grope in the darkness, to wrestle with unknown and undreamed-of terrors, alone and unaided: Nothing was explained, nothing was given freely, they had no sword, and now, Harry had no wand. And he had dropped the photograph of the thief, and it would surely be easy now for Voldemort to find out who he was. . . . Voldemort had all the information now. . . Q2 - Why didn't Dumbledore give them more?Educated at Durmstrang, a school famous even then for its unfortunate tolerance of the Dark Arts, Grindelwald showed himself quite as precociously brilliant as Dumbledore. Rather than channel his abilities into the attainment of awards and prizes, however, Gellert Grindelwald devoted himself to other pursuits. At sixteen years old, even Durmstrang felt it could no longer turn a blind eye to the twisted experiments of Gellert Grindelwald, and he was expelled. Q3 - What did he do to get himself expelled from Durmstrang?Gellert — Your point about Wizard dominance being FOR THE MUGGLES' OWN GOOD — this, I think, is the crucial point. Yes, we have been given power and yes, that power gives us the right to rule, but it also gives us responsibilities over the ruled. We must stress this point, it will be the foundation stone upon which we build. Where we are opposed, as we surely will be, this must be the basis of all our counterarguments. We seize control FOR THE GREATER GOOD. And from this it follows that where we meet resistance, we must use only the force that is necessary and no more. (This was your mistake at Durmstrang! But I do not complain, because if you had not been expelled, we would never have met.) AlbusQ4 - Is Albus really a good wizard? This dreadful coffin-side brawl, known only to those few who attended Ariana Dumbledore's funeral, raises several questions. Why exactly did Aberforth Dumbledore blame Albus for his sister's death? Was it, as “Batty” pretends, a mere effusion of grief? Or could there have been some more concrete reason for his fury? Grindelwald, expelled from Durmstrang for near-fatal attacks upon fellow students, fled the country hours after the girl's death, and Albus (out of shame or fear?) never saw him again, not until forced to do so by the pleas of the Wizarding world. Q5 - Along with all these questions, what do you think Dumbledore saw in the Mirror of Erised?“Harry, I'm sorry, but I think the real reason you're so angry is that Dumbledore never told you any of this himself.” “He loved you,” Hermione whispered. “I know he loved you.” Harry dropped his arms. “I don't know who he loved, Hermione, but it was never me. This isn't love, the mess he's left me in. Q6 - What do we think of Harry and Dumbledore's relationship after this?Chapter 19 - The Silver DoeIt was snowing by the time Hermione took over the watch at midnight. Harry's dreams were confused and disturbing: Nagini wove in and out of them, first through a gigantic, cracked ring, then through a wreath of Christmas roses. He woke repeatedly, panicky, convinced that somebody had called out to him in the distance, imagining that the wind whipping around the tent was footsteps or voices. He had just held up a hand in front of his face to see whether he could make out his fingers when it happened. A bright silver light appeared right ahead of him, moving through the trees. Whatever the source, it was moving soundlessly. The light seemed simply to drift toward him. Q1 - Was Harry dumb to trust this? But instinct, overwhelming instinct, told him that this was not Dark Magic. He set off in pursuit. Q2 - Is Harry's instinct good? His heart skipped into his mouth: He dropped to his knees at the pool's edge and angled the wand so as to flood the bottom of the pool with as much light as possible. A glint of deep red . . . It was a sword with glittering rubies in its hilt. . . . The sword of Gryffindor was lying at the bottom of the forest pool. Q3 - How did the sword get there? Is the Doe and the Sword by the same person? Who?An owl hooted somewhere as he stripped off, and he thought with a pang of Hedwig.Q4 - Was this Hedwig??Every pore of his body screamed in protest: The very air in his lungs seemed to freeze solid as he was submerged to his shoulders in the frozen water. He could hardly breathe; trembling so violently the water lapped over the edges of the pool, he felt for the blade with his numb feet. He only wanted to dive once. Q5 - Ever experienced this kind of cold?“Are — you — mental?” Nothing but the shock of hearing that voice could have given Harry the strength to get up. Shivering violently, he staggered to his feet. There before him stood Ron, fully dressed but drenched to the skin, his hair plastered to his face, the sword of Gryffindor in one hand and the Horcrux dangling from its broken chain in the other….Harry could not answer. The silver doe was nothing, nothing compared with Ron's reappearance; he could not believe it. Q6 - Were you shocked by the return?“I did think I saw something move over there, but I was running to the pool at the time, because you'd gone in and you hadn't come up, so I wasn't going to make a detour to — hey!” Harry was already hurrying to the place Ron had indicated. The two oaks grew close together; there was a gap of only a few inches between the trunks at eye level, an ideal place to see but not be seen.Q7 - Who was it?Ron looked toward him, and Harry thought he saw a trace of scarlet in his eyes. “Ron — ?” The sword flashed, plunged: Harry threw himself out of the way, there was a clang of metal and a long, drawn-out scream.Q8 - What was going on there?“You come back after weeks — weeks — and you think it's all going to be all right if you just say sorry?” “Well, what else can I say?” Ron shouted, and Harry was glad that Ron was fighting back. “Oh, I don't know!” yelled Hermione with awful sarcasm. “Rack your brains, Ron, that should only take a couple of seconds —” Q9 - Is Hermione right to be this mad at Ron?“Yeah,” said Ron. “Could've been worse. Remember those birds she set on me?” “I still haven't ruled it out,” came Hermione's muffled voice from beneath her blankets, but Harry saw Ron smiling slightly as he pulled his maroon pajamas out of his rucksack. Q10 - What do you think of Ron's Dilumenator?Chapter 20 - Xenophilius LovegoodHermione's sulkiness could not mar his buoyant spirits: The sudden upswing in their fortunes, the appearance of the mysterious doe, the recovery of Gryffindor's sword, and above all, Ron's return, made Harry so happy that it was quite difficult to maintain a straight face. “Oh, yeah. Well, it's just a bad habit we've slipped into,” said Harry. “But I haven't got a problem calling him V —” “NO!” roared Ron, causing Harry to jump into the hedge and Hermione (nose buried in a book at the tent entrance) to scowl over at them. “Q1 - What do you think of the tracking of this?Harry did not laugh at Ron, because he understood too well the longing behind the question. The idea that Dumbledore had managed to come back to them, that he was watching over them, would have been inexpressibly comforting. He shook his head. Q2 - Any chance that this Doe could have been Dumbledore?“But don't you think if it was, Dumbledore would have told me about it before he died?” “Maybe . . . maybe it's something you need to find out for yourself,” said Hermione with a faint air of clutching at straws. “Yeah,” said Ron sycophantically, “that makes sense.” “No, it doesn't,” snapped Hermione, “but I still think we ought to talk to Mr. Lovegood. A symbol that links Dumbledore, Grindelwald, and Godric's Hollow? Harry, I'm sure we ought to know about this!” Q3 - Will Hermione and Ron ever reconcile?Q4 - Danny nailed the prediction on Luna not being thereQ5 - What would you have done in Xeno's position? He turned away from the window and his gaze fell upon another peculiar object standing upon the cluttered, curved sideboard: a stone bust of a beautiful but austere-looking witch wearing a most bizarre-looking headdress. Two objects that resembled golden ear trumpets curved out from the sides. A tiny pair of glittering blue wings was stuck to a leather strap that ran over the top of her head, while one of the orange radishes had been stuck to a second strap around her forehead. “Ah, you have spotted my pet invention,” Xeno said, “Modeled, fittingly enough, upon the head of the beautiful Rowena Ravenclaw. ‘Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure!' ” Q6 - Danny you paused at this for a bit, why?
The Fantastic Beasts films left us on a MASSIVE cliffhanger. The Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald is STILL at large and the movies just…ENDED? Fortunately for us, we know how his story plays out, and we can attribute that to established Harry Potter lore. But as for the films..Those are over. So, what I want to know is..What happened to him along the way? What happened AFTER 1932? What happened to Gellert Grindelwald? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be discussing whether or not the Dark Wizard, Gellert Grindelwald, was responsible for the infamous Muggle conflict of World War II. The idea that Gellert Grindelwald, former flame of Albus Dumbledore turned Dark Wizard, could have had anything to do with the second global war of the 20th century has become a rather popular fan theory. There's, of course, the fact that the timeline of both Grindelwald's rise to power in the first half of the 1900s coincides with the historical events of World War II. More than that, however, are the blatant references to the Muggle war that are present, specifically in the Fantastic Beasts films. Let's take a closer look. Learn more about your ad choices. Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. We know that in November of 1945, Dumbledore achieved the impossible by defeating the notorious (and Elder Wand wielding) dark wizard at large- Gellert Grindelwald. For decades, Grindelwald had been building his following and spreading his poisonous ideologies, disrupting the Wizarding World in a way unlike any other wizard before. His goal was simple: to establish a new world order where wizards would reign supreme over Muggles. His ideologies, promoted segregation, discrimination, and violence, instilling fear and chaos in thw eyes of many. And for a long time, it looked as though Grindelwald's twisted perspectives were gaining traction.. That is, until Albus Dumbledore stepped in. We also know that Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in a duel of ‘Legendary Proportions' that is widely perceived to have been the most legendary duel of all Wizarding history. “They say, still, that no Wizarding duel ever matched that between Dumbledore and Grindelwald in 1945. Those who witnessed it have written of the terror and the awe they felt as they watched these two extraordinary wizards do battle. Dumbledore's triumph, and its consequences for the Wizarding world, are considered a turning point in magical history.” But one question that's never quite been properly answered by the history books is…HOW? How did Dumbledore defeat Grindelwald? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Gellert Grindelwald, and why he never chose to pursue immortality via Horcruxes. In Harry Potter, Horcruxes are one of Lord Voldemort's deadliest weapons- objects that anchor his soul to the mortal realm and prevent him from dying. The creation of a Horcrux requires an act of murder, as it involves tearing the soul apart, and it is considered one of the darkest forms of magic. But Gellert Grindelwald, the man who terrorized the wizarding world BEFORE Voldemort, never seemed to have been interested in them. Why is that? Well, I've got a few theories. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're going to be taking a deep dive into what COULD have happened to the Wizarding World and the lives of the witches and wizards we now know so well IF Gellert Grindelwald had been the winner of his infamous duel with Albus Dumbledore. As many of you will know, in 1945, Albus Dumbledore at long last challenged the dark wizard Grindelwald, defeating him in a duel, which ended Grindelwald's reign of terror over the Wizarding community and put a stop to his frightful rise to power. This duel, of course, came decades after the two men had formed an intense bond in their youth. In fact, according to Dumbledore's own admission, Albus was in fact in love with Gellert as a young man. Their relationship was initially built upon a foundation of shared hatred towards Muggle-kind, and they dreamed of a world in which witches and wizards would conquer the non-magical world and make them into a subservient people. Fortunately, for the greater magical community at large, Albus Dumbledore's reverie of this dystopian version of the world was obliterated when his younger sister, Ariana, was killed in a misguided argument between himself, Gellert, and Aberforth, Albus' younger brother, turned fatal. After this tragic incident, the two young wizards parted ways, as their ideologies began to diverge drastically. Many years later, Gellert began his infamous rise to power in pursuit of making the world he'd once envisioned alongside Dumbledore a reality. It's at this point in their shared history, that we discovered that Grindelwald and Albus had made an unbreakable vow with one another never to oppose the other. This was done at a time when they both believed they wanted the same thing: domination over the human race. Unfortunately, this vow prevented Dumbledore from putting a stop to all the evil things Grindelwald did for decades. BUT, as I mentioned at the start of this video, there eventually came a time in which Albus was able to overcome the vow, challenge Grindelwald, and ultimately defeat and imprison him. The question I raise with you now is: What would have happened if Albus Dumbledore had NOT won this fight? What would the Wizarding World have looked like if the winner had, in fact, been Gellert Grindelwald instead? Indeed, there are a many number of questions that this alteration to the past brings about. First, and foremost, to any great fan of Harry Potter anyways, the question that comes to mind is: What would've happened to the great and powerful Albus Dumbledore? Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing why Professor Albus Dumbledore, arguably the greatest Headmaster Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has ever seen, never assumed a much greater leadership role within the wizarding world as the British Minister for Magic. As far as legendary wizards go in the world of Harry Potter, Professor Albus Dumbledore certainly tops the list—especially when considering the number of legendary witches and wizards who have wielded their power for good and not evil. For starters, he is likely only one of a few wizards in all of history who was essential in the downfall of not one, but TWO dark and powerful wizards, both of whom were leading deadly wizarding conflicts. His first conquest of good over evil came when he defeated the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald on the 2nd of November in 1945. In doing so, Dumbledore not only stopped Grindelwald from continuing to gain power with the intention of subjugating Muggles around the world, he also effectively ended the global wizarding war that had erupted thanks to Grindelwald's prejudiced views. Then, in the 1990s, Dumbledore was also responsible for identifying the weakness of Voldemort—namely his multiple Horcruxes—which eventually led to Harry Potter's ability to defeat the Dark Lord. While not many witches or wizards can attest to attaining the same or similar achievements, Dumbledore defeated those dark wizards while also TEACHING, for Albus was an accomplished professor at Hogwarts for years before finally becoming one of the school's most admired Headmasters. So, when taking all of Albus Dumbledore's accolades into consideration, as well as his propensity for what is just and right, it seems rather odd that a wizard as powerful and good as Dumbledore, and who could clearly lead an organised establishment, was never the head of the magical governing body of Britain—the Ministry of Magic. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we'll be discussing who could be the next GREAT dark witch or wizard.Throughout the Harry Potter series, we are introduced to many evil witches and wizards who commit great and terrible crimes. From the likes of Barty Crouch Junior to Bellatrix Lestrange, both of whom were loyal Death Eaters who tortured, killed and brutalised other witches and wizards in the name of Lord Voldemort, there was no shortage of evil people during Harry's time as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But, of course, the DARKEST wizard of that time was none other than Voldemort, who literally went by the name "The Dark Lord". His crimes and offences against wizardkind went beyond any other during his lifetime. And before Voldemort, there was another great and powerful dark wizard--Gellert Grindelwald. And while, of course, there were other witches and wizards who practised the dark arts during Grindelwald's rise to power, none were quite as ruthless as Gellert himself.Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Voldemort, Dumbledore, and one rather large question that I'm sure has crossed the minds of every Harry Potter fan at one point or another: Why didn't Dumbledore just HUNT Voldemort down? I know I know, it's not that simple. Logistically this subject is..Precarious to say the least. But, just for a moment let's pretend that Dumbledore decided to set off in search of Voldemort and simply killed the tyrannical dark wizard- effectively stopping him in his tracks. And if not KILL him, couldn't he have imprisoned him in the same way that he imprisoned Grindelwald? In the event of EITHER of these situations, what would have happened next? Would this have been any kind of a permanent solution? And of course the big one: is this situation even a feasible one? Join me as we unpack the question of why on earth Dumbledore FAILED to defeat Voldemort all by himself- instead relying on the fabled ‘Boy who lived'. Let's dive in. The first thing that I want to reinforce is that Dumbledore was, unquestionably, one of the most powerful wizards in the Harry Potter universe. From an extremely young age Dumbledore's magical abilities consistently turned heads, particularly his skills surrounding charms and transfiguration. He also did exceptionally well on his N.E.W.T.S and Griselda Marchbanks, a professor working for the Wizarding Examinations Authority, remarked that Albus was able to do things with a wand that ‘she had never seen before'. In his youth, Dumbledore also spent much of his time with Gellert Grindelwald, another one of the wizarding world's most powerful wizards. By association, it's likely that the two boys skillsets merged to some extent- resulting in each wizard achieving a greater level of power than what would have been independently possible. As Dumbledore grew older, he left no stone unturned when it came to magical abilities- becoming a master of transfiguration, charms, potions, elemental magic, occlumency, and more. Dumbledore is truly the exception to the phrase ‘jack of all trades, master of none' - as he was a master of all. So if Dumbledore was SO powerful, what was stopping him from tracking Voldemort down and overpowering him, putting an end to the dark lord's reign? Well, there are a number of reasons. Well, I've got a few theories.Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Albus Dumbledore and the discovery he made in his youth that made him famous. I am of course talking about his discovery of the 12 uses of Dragon's Blood- an alchemical feat worthy of a place in the history books. Today, when we think of Dumbledore's achievements, the accomplishment that stands out most was his 1945 defeat of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, as he effectively saved the wizarding world from a perilous fate. After 1945, there wasn't a wizarding household in the world that didn't know his name. However, what many don't realize is that Dumbledore is also quite famous from his OTHER achievements in the wizarding world. Dumbledore lived a long time, 115 years to be exact, and during his formative years he was able to achieve a LOT, beginning to impress other witches and wizards as early as the year 1893. “In a matter of months, Albus's own fame had begun to eclipse that of his father. By the end of his first year, he would never again be known as the son of a Muggle-hater, but as nothing more or less than the most brilliant student ever seen at the school.” And for the remainder of Dumbledore's studies, with his negative associations now a thing of the past, Dumbledore continued to excel- achieving every award and accolade imaginable. After the death of his sister, he decided to take a trip to France where he visited his old friend Nicolas Flamel. Flamel was a famed alchemist, and it was in France that Dumbledore studied the ancient art and science of alchemy under his tutelage. After an unknown period of time, Dumbledore returned back to Britain- and it just so happened that in this time period Dumbledore became infatuated with the study of dragon's blood- specifically it's uses- a relatively uncharted subject in wizarding culture. Dragon blood was the blood of any of the many species of dragon, and it had 12 uses - all of which Dumbledore ‘discovered' and subsequently published, earning him widespread recognition. Dumbledore was now world famous. But despite this discovery catapulting Dumbledore to stardom, there are still a lot of UNKNOWNS when it comes to Dumbledore's discovery- at least, from our perspective. While the uses of Dragon's Blood were published in all sorts of alchemical manuscripts, we- the muggle readers- have never been enlightened as to what these 12 uses are. Today, I want to dig in and see what I can find on this subject. First things first- what IS Dragon's blood? Dragon's blood, as you might have expected, was blood extracted from any species of dragon- a dark red glutinous substance. The blood of a dragon was particularly powerful- but also adaptable- which is why it was eventually discovered to have so much practical application in the wizarding world. It's worth noting, however, that Dragon's weren't the only magical creature with POWERFUL blood. One sip of unicorn blood could keep witches and wizards alive even when they were an inch from death, but it did come with a big price tag- a condemnation to a cursed existence- a half-life. Drinking the blood of a Re'em, a type of rare giant horse, granted the drinker immense strength for a short period of time. And the blood of a Qilin, a mythical creature that was part-dragon and part-horse, had the ability to show people visions. It's clear that the blood of certain magical creatures has extremely powerful capabilities, but oddly enough the first two uses of Dragon's blood that I want to discuss in this video seem fairly mundane by comparison.

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing WHAT IF Gellert Grindelwald had been the winner of his infamous duel with Albus Dumbledore. Garrick Ollivander ist wohl der beste Zauberstabmacher in ganz Großbritannien, wenn nicht sogar weltweit. Seine Art und Weise Zauberstäbe zu erstellen ist einzigartig. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald, and their plan to rule over the muggle world. With uncertainty regarding future releases of Fantastic Beasts films, it's entirely possible that we won't get to witness a certain side of Dumbledore - a glimpse in to his past that outlines his (at one time) questionable morality, his plan for establishing wizarding dominance, and his relationship with dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. If you don't know Dumbledore's backstory, and you've only seen the Harry Potter films, then let me summarize it quickly: Dumbledore wasn't always good. Like everyone else, the wise all-knowing Hogwarts headmaster also had to face some demons before discovering who he truly was. As a young man, Dumbledore showed a lot of promise. He was an extremely innately talented wizard, and while studying at Hogwarts his professors claimed he could do things with a wand that they had never seen before. #harrypotter Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Harry to Potter Theory. Lord Voldemort and Gellert Grindelwald are the two most powerful dark wizards of modern history. And their lives were eerily similar. Both of them shared a common foe: Albus Dumbledore. And both of them shamelessly butchered their fellow wizards and witches in pursuit of power. But when you look at the pair of dark wizards, you might be surprised to find out that there's quite a bit that separates them. From their individual manifestos, to their actual magical powers, Voldemort and Grindelwald couldn't have been more different. Today, we're going to shed some light on those differences, and find out what divided these two wizards.
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald, and Nurmengard Prison. In the year 1945, a duel of epic proportions went down between the elder-wand wielding Grindelwald, and the powerful Albus Dumbledore. British pure-blood wizard Elphias Doge described their duel as the greatest of all time, and that "no duel ever matched it". Fortunately, with the Fantastic Beasts films progressing, it seems as though we're getting nearer and nearer to actually witnessing this fated duel on screen. Dumbledore eventually came out on top - successfully edging out Grindelwald during their duel, and becoming the new master of the elder wand. However, despite besting the dark wizard, no fatalities occurred as a result of their duel. Dumbledore spared his life, but something would still have to come of the dark wizard. Provided that it was 1945, you may have expected Grindelwald to have been sent to Azkaban prison- a hot spot for most dark, evil and powerful wizards. However, this was not the case at all, in fact, surprisingly, Grindelwald was imprisoned in Nurmengard castle, the same fortress that he himself built to hold his own enemies. Nurmengard was the base-camp for all of his operations during his reign of power, so it's interesting that he would be imprisoned in such familiar territory. Why would they put him in a building that he knew better than anyone else? Why was Gellert Grindelwald imprisoned in Nurmengard, and WHY did he never escape?Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's time to talk about a threequel!! Today's film has been MANY years in the making. Unfortunately, it went through some troubled times, even ahead of its filming. We've now seen three different versions of Grindelwald. One, on purpose because of the plot of the first movie, and one because of everything else that was surrounding Johnny Depp. This caused a TON of drama pre filming, and the different in looks was never even addressed in the movie. But, we are of course talking about Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. "Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards and witches. They soon encounter an array of old and new beasts as they clash with Grindelwald's growing legion of followers." With a supposed two more movies coming still, this movie feels less like a sequel, and more like a continuation of a giant story! BUT, this is more of a romance film between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and that is what is moving the plot forward. There IS indeed a secret Dumbledore, and this movie explains who that person is, and why he's never been known! PLUS you get some beasts, and to spend some time with some familiar characters! If Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore — out now on streaming and video-on-demand — is the last Wizarding World movie we're going to get for a while, then what a disappointing way this is for things to have panned out. Has any other contemporary film franchise been this reactionary to fan concerns? We discuss the film's convoluted (yet low-stakes) plot, its overabundance of characters (some of whom it keeps forgetting about), and the emotional core of the story, which is the romance between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald. We also compare Johnny Depp and Mads Mikkelsen's performances as Grindelwald, talk about the overuse of CGI and the lacklustre nature of the select few action sequences, and offer unsolicited advice to Warner Bros. on how they should fix this mess. — Hosted by Akhil Arora and Rohan Naahar, The Long Take is fully bootstrapped. Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing the Fantastic Beasts films. Specifically- the performance of Grindelwald by actor's Johnny Depp and Mads Mikkelsen. Now, when the Fantastic Beasts films first hit theatres, in spite of our awareness of Grindelwald's presence, we were all (at first) under the impression that the main antagonist was going to be Percival Graves, played by Colin Farrell. However, towards the end of the film it is revealed that Percival Graves was actually Gellert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp, in disguise. With that said, we only witness Depp's Grindelwald for a very brief period in this film. After the first film had ended and Grindelwald's true identity had been revealed, Depp ended up reprising his role as Grindelwald in 2018s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. In this film, we got much more of a look in to Depp's portrayal of the famous dark wizard, and I certainly wasn't disappointed.
