This year marks the 50th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live” – and while many of the “Not Ready for Prime Time Players” have gone on to achieve remarkable careers, few have had as fascinating a journey as Dan Aykroyd's. As the youngest member of the 1975 original cast, Aykroyd quickly became known for his iconic sketches, including parodies of Julia Child and Richard Nixon, the beloved “Two Wild and Crazy Guys,” and the absurd “Bass-o-Matic.” His sketch “The Blues Brothers” not only became a cultural touchstone, but evolved into successful feature films and a live musical act. Aykroyd's talents also extend to behind the camera, as he wrote and starred in the comedy classics “Dragnet,” “Coneheads,” “Spies Like Us” and “Ghostbusters.” Aykroyd's career has earned him numerous accolades, including an Emmy Award and Grammy and Academy Award nominations. He is also an entrepreneur and co-founder of the House of Blues music venues and Crystal Head Vodka. In this conversation, host Alec Baldwin speaks with Aykroyd about the early days of “SNL,” the evolution of his career into music and dramatic roles, and how his upbringing helped shape the creation of “Ghostbusters.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
WGN Radio's Dave Plier welcomes comedy legend Dan Aykroyd to talk about Second City and his friendship with the late Joe Flaherty, his newest movie ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire', the business side of filmmaking, John Belushi (who would have been 75), SNL, and his Crystal Head Vodka.

Five years ago, seemingly every food and beverage brand was incorporating CBD into its innovation strategy. Of course, that's no longer the case. What generated the hype, and what lessons can be drawn from CBD's rapid rise? The hosts discuss. They also sip and snack their way through an unusual mix of products, including hot dog water (!), crispy beef jerky, candy-flavored coffee and “lox in a box.” Show notes: 0:35: Build A Birdhouse. No Habla Anything. Jacqui Got NIL. Leprechauns Are Bad. WTF 7-Eleven. – Mike is back from the Big Apple where he was overseeing preparations for BevNET Live Summer 2024, an event that will give attendees plenty of opportunities to meet one-on-one with retailers, including Whole Foods, and best-in-class service providers. We learn that Ray can't speak a lick of Spanish, Jacqui's bracket is busted and why communication about THC is a relative “brez.” The hosts also dive a little too deep into hot dog water, get sauce-y on a couple new-ish products and wonder about eating smoked salmon on a plane. This year for SPOOKY SEASON, we decided to do something a little different. Instead of talking horror movies or covering a Razzie-winner, we decided to let a friend talk us into covering something particularly controversial -- 2016's Ghostbusters: Answer the Call! Our friend and life-long Ghostbusters superfan Matt (AKA Toaster) joins us to talk about what did and didn't work about this Paul Feig film (spoilers: more than you might remember, considering this didn't get a single Razzie nomination). Jack gets talked into changing his mind on something, Matt reminds us of some of the awful nonsense held within the Sony Pictures email leak, everyone reveals embarrassing childhood stories surrounding the original Ghostbusters, and Joe forgets who was in this movie for second. Join us for this episode, but maybe leave the lights on if there's something strange in your neighborhood... Sketch comedian. Ghostbuster. Vodka entrepreneur. It's all in a life's work for the remarkable Dan Aykroyd. An original cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” Aykroyd is perhaps best known for the film franchise “Ghostbusters” in which he plays Ray Stanz, the proton pack-wearing ghoul fighter, a role that he will reprise in an upcoming sequel. He's less recognized, however, as the co-founder of Crystal Head Vodka, a globally distributed, ultra-premium spirit brand identified by its distinctive skull-shaped bottle. Launched in 2008, Crystal Head Vodka is atypical of celebrity-backed spirits in that its association with Dan is not front and center. Although he does meet-and-greet events with consumers and occasionally goes on sales calls, the brand was designed and developed to be sold on its own merits. It's a point of pride for Aykroyd who praised the company's emphasis on business fundamentals and premium positioning. In this episode, Aykroyd spoke about cutting his teeth in beverage alcohol as an importer of Patron tequila, how Crystal Head Vodka enhances its resonance with the heavy metal community, how he attempts to establish an authentic relationship with consumers, and, why, despite the company's long standing independence, he may be interested in aligning with a certain luxury-centric conglomerate. Show notes: 0:48: Interview: Dan Aykroyd, Co-Founder, Crystal Head Vodka – Aykroyd chatted with Taste Radio editor Ray Latif about Crystal Head Vodka's limited-edition "Paint Your Pride" bottle before discussing the brand's origins, the inspiration behind the skull package and its initial reception among retailers and bar directors. He also explained how he's built sustainable relationships with distributors, what makes him an effective salesman and why he believes that his celebrity has a limited impact on the brand's past and future. Later, he spoke about the delineation of roles and responsibilities among the company's ownership team and what postal work has to do with their harmonious relationship, why his friend and fellow actor Bill Murray doesn't drink Crystal Head Vodka (a sister whiskey brand is another story) and answered an infamous question with a “little g.” Brands in this episode: Crystal Head Vodka, Patron, Casamigos, Teremana

It's not every day one of the Blues Brothers serenades you down the phone line. But that's how things play out in the opening episode of Season 14 of Drinks Adventures, as we head to Ontario, Canada, to talk with actor, musician and comedian Dan Aykroyd. Dan is on the show primarily to talk about vodka, specifically Crystal Head Vodka, the brand he founded in 2008, long before the recent groundswell of Hollywood actors getting into the distilling business. We also get an update on his business interests in Canadian wine, and the challenges of launching the new Ghostbusters film during the pandemic. And I took the opportunity to ask Dan his thoughts on Belushi, the documentary on his late friend and collaborator, John Belushi, released in 2020.

On episode 23 of Canon Fodder we bust some ghosts. The Ghostbusters universe is much more expansive than most people probably realize. What started off as a one-off movie that was supposed to feature an SNL-based cast ballooned into a franchise lasting over 35 years, with plenty more to come. We spend most of the episode talking about what's actually in canon, Ghostbusters 1, 2, and Afterlife. Once upon a time, the original animated show, The Real Ghostbusters, could have been considered canon, but not anymore. And that show does NOT age well. We have a blast figuring out where all of the fodder fits in, such as Extreme Ghostbusters, the 2009 video game based on an unproduced Ghosbusters 3 script, and of course the mostly unfunny 2016 Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. Plus, we tie Ghostbusters to the MCU and Caddyshack. Yea, it's a doozy. As always, we have food and drinks on the show related to our universe. This week we drink the I Ain't Afraid of No Bulls, fruited sour, from Bolero Snort and Crystal Head Vodka from Dan Aykroyd himself. There's also some real-deal Stay Puft Marshmallows (WalMart exclusive) which we don't actually eat, but we just had to have them.

Andrew spent over a decade working the bar and restaurant strip of George Street in St Johns in many different facets of the bar and restaurant industry as he has worked the dish pit, food runner, promotions, bar back, bartender, server, supervisor and bar manager. In 2015, Andrew entered his first bartending competition when he competed in the Best Caesar in St. John's where he placed 2nd. A few months later, Andrew completed in the MIXXIT on the Rock Best Bartender in St John's where he placed 1st. It was at this point that Andrew started taking bartending more seriously as he had developed the confidence required to grow his skills. Andrew stared entering additional competitions and conducting bar training sessions. In 2018, Andrew moved to Toronto where he was hired as part of the opening team at Don Alfonso 1890. From there, Andrew moved on to the The Shore Club where he eventually landed the role as Bar Manager where he spent the next year and a half. Dan Aykroyd can make you laugh at any moment. His comedic sense of timing, of course, has been honed from his years on Saturday Night Live and his roles in a long list of smash-hit movies, including Ghostbusters, Spies Like Us and the Blues Brothers. But when it comes to his Crystal Head Vodka brand, he’s as educational as he is entertaining. This is no vanity project or fluffy celebrity endorsement. On this episode of the award-winning podcast Life Behind Bars, Aykroyd joins co-hosts David Wondrich and Noah Rothbaum to talk about the latest release from Crystal Head, the bars he ran with John Belushi in New York and the early days of the House of Blues. So mix yourself a drink and listen to this episode of Life Behind Bars. Cheers!Life Behind Bars features Half Full’s editor Noah Rothbaum and its Senior Drinks Columnist David Wondrich as they discuss the greatest bartenders and greatest cocktails of all time. It won the 2018 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Award for the world’s best drinks podcast.Edited by Alex Skjong See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Twitter: @twpwkPatreonIt seems every celebrity has their own brand of hard alcohol these days. Whether it be Ryan Reynolds with Aviation Gin, George Clooney with Casamigos, or Russ Hanneman with Tres Comas, they all just happen to have the same passion for the craft of distilling fine spirits. And by “distilling fine spirits” I mean “shameless cash grabs”.Some are more serious than others. Like Robert De Niro's VDKA 6100 make in New Zealand. As we all know, most vodkas are made by Italians living in New Zealand. And we all know the best carribean rum comes from country singers in Tennessee, that's why Kenny Chesney makes Blue Chair Bay Rum.We talk about these and more in this episode of TWPWK. Dan Aykroyd is in town signing bottles of Crystal Head Vodka, which meant we got a chance to catch up with one of our all-time favorite actors. We covered everything: driving through a mall in Blues Brothers (Dan did 90% of the driving in the film), drumming with Muddy Waters, they newly announced Ghostbusters, what the heck the song "Rubber Biscuit" is about, and so much more. You can attend his signing today at the Buy Rite in Williamstown, NJ and Friday at the Fine Wine & Good Spirits in the Centerville Square (Lancaster, PA)

Episode 59 brings us Part 4 of the 2019 WGOH?!? Best Tournament, and we have determined which two movies enter the Sweet Sixteen of Bond movies! If going merely by box office numbers (accounted for inflation), we have one upset and one expected victory in this preparatory playoff stage. And in a What's Going On Here?!? first, we review a cocktail! Because we are entering serious Bond territory, our cocktail, of course, is a vodka Martini. Shaken, not stirred (obviously). For our vodka, we used Crystal Head Vodka (by Globefill Inc., out of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada), and for our vermouth, we used Noilly Prat Extra Dry Vermouth (out of Marseillan, France). The drink got top scores, as you can tell by our reactions when we taste it. So tune in, compare your brackets to ours, and grab a drink! Cheers!!!

Recorded in 2012, this interview with Dan Aykroyd covers “the family business” of ghost hunting and what exists in the afterworld. Jay Smith interviews the creator and star of Ghostbusters about what exists beyond the mortal coil and how we might discover its truths. Peter Aykroyd’s book “A History of Ghosts” is the foundation of this discussion and the starting point for future RFG investigations into supernatural phenomena. Special thanks to Crystal Head Vodka for the opportunity to speak with Mr. Aykroyd. This episode featured Jay Smith, hostDan Aykroyd, guestIvo Shandor, announcer from beyond the grave. Music and sound copyright Sony Pictures Entertainment. Soundtrack composed and conducted by Elmer Bernstein. Next, Troy and Chris chat about Ghostbusters Answer the Call's Hugo Award nomination and the fierce competition it faces. Finally, Dan Aykroyd emerged victorious from one of the most dramatic court room dramas since some of the best episodes of Law and Order - and Troy will excitedly attempt to recount the tale. All that plus Chris chats about the VFX magazine from the Ghostbusters Resurrection podcasters as promised from last week's show. Pour a Crystal Head-based beverage and join us!
Collin knows Margaret loves a good strategy session and outdoes himself by recommending the early 90’s computer hacker heist classic Sneakers. Collin daydreams of about life married to Sidney Poitier while Margaret attempts to reenact Dan Aykroyd’s bizarre Crystal Head Vodka commercial. They discuss Robert Redford’s handsomeness, computers the size of benches, intentionally cursing to prove you’re a grown up, and the sad fate of dollar movie theaters.
Celebrate Leap Day with an all-new Miller Time with the podcasters of Monster Party! Troy and Chris sit down with the fearless four of Monster Party, Matt Weinhold, Shawn Sheridan, Larry Strothe and James Gonis to find out how they got started in the podcasting realm, have become masters of the horror genre in your ear-holes, and get their thoughts on Ghostbusters: why the original was so popular, why the sequel failed to live up to that potential, the merchandising onslaught that resulted, and what they think (for better or worse) about the upcoming Ghostbusters (2016). All that plus a lot of Crystal Head Vodka and Defending Slimer's Life on our second Miller Time!
Larry and Chris review Ron Burgundy's Scotchy Scotch Scotch, discuss the face of Crystal Head Vodka and put a new spin on the Cinnamon Challenge. Enjoy!
