We're back to our usual programming over at Ramblin: An Amblin Podcast, and this time we're taking a precarious walk over old Nebbercracker's front lawn to cautiously enter MONSTER HOUSE, Gil Kenan's 2006 feature film debut and the second of the Robert Zemeckis-produced motion capture animations. Because we're a-scared, though, we can't do it alone, so we've enlisted the help of all-time great sister Sophie Glenn to complete our trio. Together we discuss childhood memories, re-litigate tales of old ladies in the woods and reminisce about the Disney Channel in the mid-noughties. We also find that we have way more to say about this weird, quasi-forgotten little throwback movie than anybody could have reasonably thought. PUBLIC VERSION. Writer/director Gil Kenan (MONSTER HOUSE, GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE, SATURDAY NIGHT) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to share his incredible career journey. From how the devastating 1994 Northridge earthquake changed his path from the theater to the cinema… to working with both Zemeckis AND Spielberg on creating the animated classic MONSTER HOUSE… to his fateful meeting with fellow filmmaker Jason Reitman and the incredible creative partnership that followed… to the importance of accessing truth even when working with established IPs like SNL and GHOSTBUSTERS… to surviving the “beautiful disaster” that was CITY OF EMBER and the sad truth about how IMPRACTICAL JOKERS and VICTOR CROWLEY star Brian Quinn ALMOST made it into GHOST BUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE… Gil's story is legendary! Seriously, what other filmmaker got to direct the latest adventure by the Ghostbusters AND write the definitive film on the making of Saturday Night Live all in one year?!

Ben & Rob get cold feet on the finale of their series covering every Ghostbusters movie EVER, defrosting ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire', the 2024 Gil Kenan directed latest instalment in the franchise. Take a deep breath for the cast-list, as it features the talents of Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, Logan Kim, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, William Atherton, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Emily Alyn Lind, and James Acaster! Sound like too many people for one plot to support in a meaningful way? You bet it is!When the discovery of an ancient artefact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age. But despite making twice it's budget in box office receipts, this film received a frosty reception from critics and a tepid welcome from much of the fanbase. Can Ben & Rob defrost this overstuffed freezer of a film, or is it best to leave the franchise where it belongs; behind the tupperware of old Lasagna that Aunt Ethel brought around when you had the flu? Is Winston Zeddemore the most inept CEO since Elon Musk? And can Ben ever forgive Gil Kenan for taking all the warmth out of his favourite franchise?CONSUUUME to find out all this and much, much more!PLUS! 2021's Ghostbusters Afterlife proved once and for all that there could indeed be another successful Ghostbusters film. So director Jason Reitman and his co-writer Gil Kenan got back together and saw if they could come up with ideas for a sequel. Because if it worked once, it'll work again, right? While shooting was smoother with renowned troublemaker Bill Murray on set, the death of Jason's father Ivan once again made the movie more of a tribute than a story. With all the obstacles thrown in its way, as well as Reitman handing the directing duties over to Kenan (Monster House and 2015's Poltergeist remake), the difficulty of following up the most successful Ghostbusters film since the original was made even more difficult. Join Garrett, Matt, and Adam as they revisit the franchise that they left their last podcasting platform with back in 2021 with this review of Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. Do they agree with the consensus that the movie is far less than its predecessor? Download below to find out! And come back next week as the three continue their look at the seemingly never ending saga of Stephen King's Night Shift.

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean ain't afraid of no ghosts. We watched the 2024 film from Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. If there's one thing in this world that I love, it's a nice and chilly weather system slowly passing through my area. Loads of people in Southern California love this place for its consistently warm weather. I'm not one of those people.I've got to be honest, that chilly demon in this movie didn't seem all that bad to me. Did it take things too far by killing loads of people? Of course. But I love a cozy, puffy coat so much. I'm really torn here.If only there could be demons intent on helping to fix this climate crisis that's afflicting us all. Where are the benevolent demons? Make that the third film in a trilogy and I'm sure we'll all be happy Ghostbusters fans.(Recorded on March 27, 2024)Links to Stuff We Mentioned:Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire - The Movie Database (TMDB)Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailer - YouTubeMadame Web (2024) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Sharktopus (2010) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Sharknado (2013) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Ghostbusters (2016) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Sigourney Weaver — The Movie Database (TMDB)Jason Reitman — The Movie Database (TMDB)Rick Moranis — The Movie Database (TMDB)Kumail Nanjiani — The Movie Database (TMDB)Patton Oswalt — The Movie Database (TMDB)Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Luca (2021) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Ivan Reitman — The Movie Database (TMDB)Cannibal Girls (1973) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Follow Us:Give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts!Sean's Letterboxd profile!Steven's Letterboxd profile! Our Buzzsprout site! Our Instagram profile!Support the show

Costume Designer Alexis Forte CD credits include: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire | Smile | Eric Larue | Resurrection | Miguel Wants to Fight --- I am so thrilled to welcome my friend Alexis to the inaugural episode of TFACD! We begin with the wild story of how we met (randomly in a bar!), then her beginnings in ballet and to PA-ing, assisting and now where she is today as a department head.   --- Alexis was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, and moved to Miami at the age of 10. As a child, she trained as a ballet dancer at Miami City Ballet, Joffrey Ballet School and Alvin Ailey, with dance being her gateway into costumes. Alexis pivoted from dance into visual arts in college when she went to London to study at the prestigious Central Saint Martins. Immersed into the world of theatre and film there, she found her calling. Upon graduation Alexis moved to New York City and started her career. She came up as an Assistant Costume Designer working on films such as Jason Reitman'sGhostbusters: Afterlife and The Front Runner; Drew Goddard's Bad Times at the El Royal; Darren Aronofsky's Mother! and The Whale, and Steven Spielberg's The Post to name a few. In addition, Alexis was on Jacqueline Durran's costume design team for Greta Gerwig's, Little Women, which won Best Costumes at the 2020 Oscars. The new trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire dropped today, and it's the #3 trending video on YouTube. Weirdly, the media has all but stopped talking about Ghostbusters 2016 in relation to the new Jason Reitman films. But it was ALL they could talk about leading up to Afterlife. So what changed? ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 ➡️ Gaming News: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A7VIqE3r5MQkFgL9nifNc Additional Context: "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," the latest addition to the iconic Ghostbusters franchise, has just released its new trailer, causing quite a stir in the entertainment world. This film follows the Spengler family as they return to New York City, joining forces with the original Ghostbusters who have established a top-secret research lab to advance their ghost-busting technology. Together, they face an "unimaginable evil commanding an army of ghosts," threatening to plunge the world into a second Ice Age. Directed by Gil Kenan and co-written by Jason Reitman, who also directed "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," "Frozen Empire" marks a return to the franchise's roots in New York City. Reitman explained that "Afterlife" was a "passing-the-torch" film, introducing new characters and re-establishing the Ghostbusters world. "Frozen Empire" ramps up the action, featuring original cast members like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, alongside newer faces such as Paul Rudd. The media's focus has indeed shifted from "Ghostbusters 2016" to the new Jason Reitman films, reflecting a change in the franchise's direction. "Ghostbusters 2016," directed by Paul Feig, was a reboot with an all-female lead cast and faced mixed reactions from both fans and critics. In contrast, Reitman's "Afterlife" and now "Frozen Empire" are seen as direct sequels to the original films, appealing to both new audiences and longtime fans by blending nostalgia with fresh storytelling. This shift in narrative and style, moving away from the reboot approach of the 2016 film, might explain why the media's conversation has changed, focusing more on the continuity and expansion of the original Ghostbusters universe. "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" is set to hit theaters on March 22, 2024, and is already generating significant buzz, ranking as one of the top trending videos on YouTube. With its blend of new and familiar elements, the film is poised to capture the imaginations of a wide audience, continuing the legacy of one of cinema's most beloved franchises.
