The P.I.O.S. in 2025: A Framework for Modern Knowledge Management! The P.I.O.S. (Personal Innovation Operating System or Poly Innovation Operating System) is a system framework I created for a modern approach to knowledge management, especially for polymaths. It's designed to support generalists and multidisciplinary individuals, helping them build a multifaceted "omni-brain" (or "poly-brain").Unlike the "second brain" concept, which primarily serves as a repository for ideas, the P.I.O.S. emphasizes a more layered, holistic system that integrates all aspects of life. Over the years, I've refined this framework, and I'm excited to share its latest iteration.Layer 1: Yearly – Review and PlanThe yearly layer focuses on:Reviewing the past year to evaluate progress.Planning for the year ahead. This layer also includes phases, which represent your key areas of focus or disciplines. These phases are like macro-level categories (e.g., swimming, gaming, PolyTools). They allow for interleaving and overlapping, unlike static "areas" in other methods like PARA, which cater more to a specialist mindset.Layer 2: Quarterly – Four Pillars and Ikigai AlignmentThis layer integrates:The Four Pillars:Body: Tracking exercise and physical health.Mind: The Modular Degree, a DIY education framework to stimulate learning.Spirit: Practices like meditation and Buddhist koans.Emotions: Tracking emotional intelligence (EQ) and gratitude.Ikigai Alignment: Ensuring that all actions align with your personal and professional identity. This helps maintain synergy between your personal life (four pillars) and professional goals (Ikigai).Layer 3: Monthly – Projects and GoalsThis layer handles:Projects: Grouped under phases, with associated goals and tasks.Goals: Achieved through tasks or projects, they drive progress within your phases.Monthly Notes: A personal and professional summary, inspired by Derek Sivers' Now Page. This serves as a reflective journal, either private or public, capturing what's happening in your life.Layer 4: Weekly – Systems and HabitsThis layer is about:Systems: Designing frameworks to sustain habits.Habits: Building and reinforcing behaviors.Habits and systems are interdependent. A system ensures that even if a habit lapses, it can be reestablished more easily. For example, a consistent exercise habit, supported by a system, makes restarting easier after a break.Layer 5: Daily – Content and NetworkingThis is the execution-focused layer:Daily Journal: A private space for reflection, which can also be public if desired.Content Ecosystem: Managing blogs, videos, podcasts, or other creative outputs.Networking Base: A personal CRM to track relationships with podcast guests, hosts, and collaborators.Layer 6: Archive and TemplatesThe final layer is for long-term organization:Archive: Storing completed projects, notes, and references.Templates: Predefined structures to streamline workflows, tailored to the tools in your knowledge management system. In ConclusionThe P.I.O.S. consists of six layers: Yearly, Quarterly, Monthly, Weekly, Daily, and Archive. Each layer serves a unique purpose, with iterations refined over time to create a cohesive and practical system. This is the first time I've shared this updated framework, and I'm thrilled to hear your thoughts. Cheers!Let me know if you'd like further refinements to the PIOS!

http://RunningAFEVER.com A little travel is good for the soul. Today Amy and I drive several hours to go hiking at Queen Wilhelmina State Park near Mena, Arkansas. It is a beautiful, mountainous area, and not crowded in the middle of December. The views are breathtaking, and the breathtaking is crisp. Several trails criss-cross the park which has a lodge at its center atop a mountain. There are a few tips I can offer on taking a road trip: Read the full post at http://RunningAFEVER.com/114 Recorded December 15, 2018. http://RunningAFEVER.com Bisphenol A, also known as BPA. What is it? BPA is one of the most common industrial chemicals on the planet. It is used to make clear, tough plastic, like you see in all manner of containers, CD's,DVD's and epoxy used to line food containers and water pipes. Why are we talking about this? Controversy -- BPA has hormone-like qualities. Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones called them "Gender-Bending Plastic Chemicals". The FDA has repeatedly endorsed BPA's and their studies have failed to show any danger to consumers. Non-FDA studies have shown possible adverse effects. BPA's have been banned by Canada and the European Union for use in baby bottles. The FDA has withdrawn its authorization of bpa use in baby bottles, but not due to any perceived danger, but for market abandonment. The market has seen the taint on BPA's and now has non-BPA products, mainly for marketing purposes. The substitutes being used have health concerns as well, but they are far less known than BPAs. The bottom line? This is probably not a big deal, but all the same I am going to look for alternatives and use them if possible, mainly because of the estrogen-like qualities. Though it probably isn't significant enough to affect muscle development, that's a big area of concern for me. Reference wikipedia, which i finally donated to today. http://RunningAFEVER.com A "5K" is a five-kilometer race. There are many of these and they are very popular as they are accessible to a large number of people. Usually they cost about $20 to enter, proceeds usually benefit a charity, and you always get a t-shirt and usually some other giveaway items as well. It is a good way to commune with fellow humans (and sometimes canines) in a healthy way. This particular 5K was held at the Don Tyson School of Innovation in Springdale, Arkansas, which is not coincidentally the home of Running: A FEVER World Headquarters. The Phoenix Burner is the name of the school newspaper. A special aspect of this race was that it was held the weekend prior to Halloween, and accordingly children were invited to dress up in costumes. Small children ran a short section of the main course. Some of the costumes I saw were cheerleaders, princesses, Incredibles, and bunnies! This was also the first 5K I had run which used computer chips to record the finishing times. I highly recommend checking out a 5K or two. You don't even have to run --- we walked this one. But it's a great way to get out and publicly practice fitness with others. Recorded December 13, 2018. http://RunningAFEVER.com Glycemic Index (GI) - A ranking of carbohydrates on a scale from 0 to 100 according to the extent to which they raise blood sugar (glucose) levels after eating. Foods with a high GI are those which are rapidly digested, absorbed, and metabolized and result in marked fluctuations in glucose levels. A diet including low GI carbohydrates - the ones that produce smaller fluctuations in your blood glucose and insulin levels -- is one of the secrets to long-term health, reducing your risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It is also one of the keys to maintaining weight loss. http://RunningAFEVER.com Michael Zalewski lost a lot of weight on the keto diet, which he no longer uses after discovering the health detriment of it. Like myself, he lost weight rapidly in the beginning as part of a weight loss contest, and subsequently moved to a more healthy pace. The keto diet consists of a high-fat, low-carb, no-sugar diet. Like the atkins diet, the idea is that with no carbs to burn, the body must burn fat. But a high-fat diet has definite health risk. In Michael's case his cholesterol raced. After he discovered this, and at the advice of his wife, who is a nurse, Michael stopped keto and is now on a Mediterranean-style diet. Like many muscular men, Michael is, and, he feels, will probably always be overweight according to the National Institutes of Health BMI recommendations. But he uses his waist size (the same as in his high school days) as a main indicator of a healthy weight and body composition. Recorded November 26, 2018. In episode 82, Laura Neff of Laura Lee Photography explains how finding harmony in your business and life can be achieved through efficiency, simplifying your systems, and working smarter. Listen in as she provides six steps that will help you make more money and have more time for your family, friends, and yourself. The Bokeh podcast is brought to you by Photographer’s Edit: Custom Post-Production for the Wedding and Portrait Photographer. About Laura: Laura is a New Jersey + worldwide wedding and brand photographer preserving memories for adventurous, fun-loving couples and heart-driven creative brands. In addition to running a very successful photography business, she educates the creative community on all things workflow, systems, productivity and time management! She's obsessed with firepits, sweet wine, deep conversation, elephants, and showing off her horrible dance moves at any given moment. Laura is on a mission for entrepreneurs to schedule more date nights, brunch weekends, and vacations as a result of finding work-life balance while running a thriving business! Laura’s Aha Moment: Before her official transition to full time photography, Laura experienced overwhelming burnout during that first busy season. At that moment, she knew there had to be some type of workflow that would automate her client’s experience. That was when she realized that she needed to work smarter, not harder, by implementing a CRM system. Technique for Balance: Schedule everything. As an entrepreneur, your job can overlap into your personal life, so scheduling personal things, such as date nights, can help create a balance. What Harmony Means to Laura Neff: Feeling fulfilled & successful in both life and business, through balance, success, and happiness. 6 Steps to Harmony in Business and Life: 1. Define your “non-negotiables." 2. Define your values in life and business. 3. Choose a word or phrase for the year. 4. Define your ideal lifestyle. 5. Set your goals. 6. Say “no” to the things that do not fit within your non-negotiables or your values. Download Laura’s Free Workbook: Intentionally Designing Your Life and Business here! Laura’s Non-Negotiables: 1. Weekends that are not spent photographing weddings are spent with her friends and family. This means no engagement or portrait sessions on the weekends. 2. Meetings are only scheduled on specific days on the week so she has two full workdays to accomplish her tasks. 3. As a co-leader in her local Tuesdays Together group, she makes sure that she attends every meeting. 4. Only shoot three portrait sessions a week. Laura’s Values: 1. Relationships 2. Self-Care 3. Adventure 4. Community 5. Gratitude 6. Freedom 7. Balance 8. Passion 9. Learning & Teaching Laura’s 2017 Words and Phrase: Words: Growth & Impact Phrase: Get out of your comfort zone!
