Free Time with Jenny Blake

“Business, like life, is all about how you make people feel. It's that simple, and it's that hard.” —Danny Meyer, Setting the Table Danny Meyer is a famous restauranteur responsible for founding some of my favorite spots, including Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, and the popular Shake Shack chain. He pioneered the philosophy of “enlightened hospitality.” That's the thing about engineering surprise and delight moments in your business. Like the example I share in this episode, while they may seem small or spontaneous, the best ones have intention and strong systems behind them. It's not hard to design a system to do this repeatedly and consistently for the people you love working with, encouraging more word of mouth referrals in the process, and reducing your reliance on marketing strategies that don't align. Today I'm sharing some examples of small gifts that make a big impact and leave a lasting impression on the people and clients you care most about.

As a photographer, it's so important for you to create a beautiful experience for your clients from start to finish. You want to make a lasting impact from the moment your potential clients see your first image to long after you deliver your final gallery.  Client experience is everything.  It's how you stand out, how you provide value, and how you show you truly care.  And the holiday season is the perfect time to do just that.  One of my favorite ways to spread a little holiday cheer is to surprise clients with gifts — After all, what better time than the holidays to make the clients you appreciate so much feel loved? I think sometimes with the stress of running a photography business,  it can be really easy to forget how essential it is to appreciate your clients and show them some love. Because, here's the truth: they are, in fact, THE REASON you have a business. They are the REASON you get to do the work you love. It's so important to appreciate them and show them how much you care — and client gifts are such a beautiful, thoughtful way to do this! And in today's podcast episode, I'm sharing my favorite client gift ideas & more importantly WHY gifting clients can be so impactful and meaningful for your photography business. You might remember Zoë from Episode 50 where she shared her start-up story. If you want to hear more about how Greetabl started and the process of seeking angel investors, I recommend checking out that episode. Today we’re shifting gears though and geeking out on marketing strategies, tactics and how Zoe and the greetabl team make customer experience a top priority.   On this episode, Zoe gets granular telling us how Greetabl uses segmenting to add value to their customer experience. She talks about email sequences, sales funnels through Facebook ads and why Greetable is choosing to optimize select marketing channels rather than spreading themselves thin. We also talk about discovering and engaging with new audiences and even drop in a few trade secrets. ON TODAY’S EPISODE: The importance of genuine interaction with customers Why Greetabl isn’t afraid of emojis How to identify and speak to new segment groups Her tips for differentiating audiences How Greetabl uses email flows to see what’s working and what’s not Creative ways to upsell and add value   The pros and cons of hiring outside ad agencies What Greetabl is launching next   KEY TAKE-AWAYS: “It's always better if people can understand that there are human beings behind the products that they enjoy” - Zoë Scharf   “We're not afraid of emojis, we're not afraid of saying weird acronyms. We throw a LILAS in there every now and then because we do love our customers like a sis.” - Zoë Scharf   “Every time that we identify sort of a different segment or group within our main target demographic, we always try to make sure that we're talking to them too and the way that they want to be spoken to.” - Zoë Scharf   “Trying to figure out how to really provide the value that people want in the places that they want is an ongoing kind of challenge for us.” - Zoë Scharf   “We offer people 10% off their first order when they sign up for our welcome flow, or for our emails. We don't say sign up for our welcome flow.” - Zoë Scharf   “It's not really pushing, like buy, buy, buy. It's more like get to know us, get to know our brand.” - Zoë Scharf   “If you've bought from us once, the first email you'll get, besides the shipping confirmation or an order confirmation, is a thank you email and it's literally just ... it's for fun. It's just a GIF of our entire team high-fiving.” - Zoë Scharf   “We consider customer happiness to be our number one marketing tool.” - Zoë Scharf   “I've learned over time that spreading ourselves out too thin is just not the way that we're able to do it.” - Zoë Scharf   “I'd rather get really good at two or three channels and be diverse enough that we're not completely reliant on one channel but also be focused enough that we can do a good job.” - Zoë Scharf   “I don't know if I'm doing the best job that anyone could ever do, but we're doing better than we did with a lot of the agencies and we're not spending money on them. Right now that's what makes sense.” - Zoë Scharf   CONNECT WITH GREETABLE: Website: http://www.greetabl.com   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/greetabl   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/greetabl   Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/greetabl/   Twitter: https://twitter.com/greetabl   LINKS: Klaviyo   PAPER CAMP   What if you could sit in a room with 30 other product makers who are doing exactly what you’re doing -- building a business they love!  You could share resources, leverage each other’s experiences and learn from those who are where you want to be. The Creative Legacy Podcast

We love trying to find ways to make the people in our lives feel special. This is true even with our clients and customers. One of our favorite ways to show everyone we care is through gift-giving. Whether it's a gift to say thank you, a gift to surprise, or a gift during the holiday season - it's the easiest way to bring a smile to someone's face. On today's episode, we discuss gift giving year round and during the holiday season for our clients and how easy it is to incorporate it into your workflow. Why Gifting Matters Gifting is taking that extra step to show kindness and generosity. When gifting to your clients, you let them know they are more than just another number. They matter. Give thoughtfully and listen to what your client might enjoy. It not only makes them feel amazing but it's more likely to lead them to refer you to other people. Gifting is a win-win! Yearly Gift Ideas You don't have to break the bank to be a thoughtful gifter. Even a sweet thank you card can make a world of difference. Think about what you think your clients would like. It can be homemade or even store bought. But it's the thought that counts. Make sure your gifts stay on brand with your message. If you are mailing or delivering a gift to their home, try to collect their address during the contract stage so you have it on file. You can also send gifts via email, like electronic Starbucks gift cards! Holiday Gift Ideas The holidays are the perfect time to remind past clients that you are thinking of them. Whether you worked with them at the beginning of the year or just last week, wish them a happy holiday season. This can be with a sweet holiday related gift (we love giving out sweets or spa-like items so they can relax) or it can be as simple as sending them a holiday card. We also highly recommend Greetabl - a customizable box with a message, photos, and surprise that ships right to your client's door! The possibilities are endless! Greetabl Discount - Use code SHAUNAE for 20% off of $50 or more! Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens... ... YOU GET A CAR! YOU GET A CAR! EVERYBODY GETS A CAR!!!!! OK... maybe our Favorite Things episode isn't going to be AS exciting as the amazing musical, Sound of Music OR Oprah giving her whole audience cars. But we are pretty excited about it nonetheless! One of the things we tend to miss about having an office job is the interpersonal relationships you build in a setting like that. You're constantly chatting with co-workers (if you're lucky) about a myriad of topics, including things you're obsessed with at the moment! We decided to bring a bit of that atmosphere to the show this week, and we're talking about our Favorite Things!! Most of them are "semi" photography related, but we weren't too worried about that. We just wanted to dish about some stuff we've been loving lately!! Here's a highlight of our favorite things... tune in to hear more! Rothy's: Julie is OBSESSED with her new shoes. These shoes are made from recycled water bottles (yay!) and are SUPER cute and comfortable! The best part is, they're great for weddings & shoots because they're machine washable!! You don't want to be worried that your shoes are stinking up the hotel room when you're taking "getting ready" photos, so this is a huge plus! Go check them out, and if you buy with this link, you'll get a discount! (And Julie will get a hookup, so it's a win/win situation!) https://go.referralcandy.com/share/D8ZDD28 Podcasts: This is a GIVEN, but of course we are all obsessed with Podcasts! Podcasts help time pass faster, especially while driving or working, and they are educational AND entertaining! We plan on doing a whole episode on our favorite podcasts in the future, so definitely stay tuned for that! Playstation Vue: Cable is SO 2014. Kate & her husband have been cable free for quite awhile now, but have always hated not having live TV. Playstation Vue is a new app (you don't need a Playstation for it!) that you can stream to your TV via your phone, or Roku (or similar) device and you actually get live TV along with DVR, on demand, and more! It's great for mindlessly listening & "watching" Fixer Upper while editing shoots! Bandolier: This thing is rad. It's like a purse, meets a phone case, meets a wallet. It's a luxury product (not super cheap) but it replaces your phone case & purse! It's SO hard to describe so you have to go check it out yourself, but it's great for photoshoots because you can keep your essentials on your body, it hides your phone (so it doesn't look unprofessional), and it stays around your neck so it's nice & safe. Again, Julie's hooking it up with a referral code, so go check it out for yourself! https://go.referralcandy.com/share/C4X68PH Etsy: A lot of people think Etsy is just for handmade items, but there are a lot of awesome digital templates & business-related things on Etsy! It's a go-to place to find a designer, templates, contracts, client gifts, etc! Greetabl: Speaking of client gifts, Greetabl is an AMAZING gifting service! It's not just a packaged gift, it's totally personalized with pictures, text, etc. They have such cute stuff on their site, everything from cute office supplies to champagne gummy bears, and more. It's SO easy to order & send straight to your clients. We're obsessed with this company right now! Instagram Live: Ashley has been using Instagram Live for awhile now, and she's loving it! She can interact with fans & friends, and people get to see what she's up to at her shoots! IG Live will send out a notification to your followers, so it's a bit more celebrated than just doing a story or regular Instagram post. Lipsense: If you haven't heard of Lipsense yet, you must not be on social media. This is an awesome product that's basically long lasting lip color. It's a lip stain plus a gloss, and they have a bajillion options for both. The color does not transfer at all, even immediately upon application. It's perfect for wedding photographers because all you have to do is reapply the gloss throughout the day, and it will stay on forever! We hope you don't mind us gabbing about our favorite things!! Let us know if YOU have a favorite thing that we should know about and try! Download from iTunes Here
