There was even a movie about it - Mr. 3000 with Bernie Mac. Yes he actually swung a bat. 3,000 career base hits has been am almost guaranteed ticket to Cooperstown. The only players that have 3,000 hits and are not in the Baseball Hall of Fame are either active, too recently retired or they have been associated with gambling or performance enhancing substances. We talk about 3,000 career hits being more difficult to achieve as the game has changed and that 2,800 hits might be enough for induction - barring extenuating circumstances of course.

Yount made his major league debut the following April, at eighteen years old. After going hitless in his first four games, Yount hit a game-winning home run in his sixth. Yount is currently the last 18-year-old to hit a home run in the Major Leagues (Andruw Jones, Bryce Harper, and Juan Soto are the most recent teenagers to have hit Major League home runs, but did so as 19-year-olds). On September 14, 1975 (two days before his 20th birthday), Yount broke Mel Ott's 47-year-old record for most games played in the major leagues before turning 20.

Technical Commissioner for the International Baseball Federation (IBAF), governing baseball worldwide. Serves on the IBAF Steering Committee. Pete has served twice in Taiwan for the World Games, in Holland for the World Games, in Rio DeJaneiro Brazil for the Pan Am games and just recently in Beijing, China for the Pre Test Olympic games. He is also the President of the Pitch and Hit Club of Chicago, a professional baseball club which honors individuals in professional baseball and raises money to promote our national pastime. 2011 was given the American Baseball Coaches Association Meritorius Award, the Illinois High School Man of the Year and the Pitch and Hit Club Paul “Dizzy” Trout Ambassador Award. Appointed to the Greater Woodfield Sports Council. Former President of the Calgary professional baseball franchise in the Northern League. Pete has lectured on baseball all over the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America, has written articles for various publications and an international coaches book.
