On Friday's Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Corofin native, Ciara Corbett, member of the Irish Banshees, Ireland's National Women's AFL team. The Irish National Women's AFL team has just recently won the 2023 AFL Euro Cup for the fourth time in a row! Caitlin grew up in Oakland, CA and now lives in San Francisco, CA with her boyfriend, Daniel after going to college in the Midwest. She grew up playing soccer, then rugby, then discovered Australian Rules Football after graduating from college in 2015. She made the national Australian Rules Football team in 2019 and was going to compete in Australia in 2020 in the International Cup, but then COVID shut the world down. The outdoors have always been a huge part of Caitlin's life. Her parent's first took her backpacking when she was 3 years old and did numerous trips in the Sierra Nevada's that Caitlin eventually came to love (although at first, she thought her parents were torturing her and depriving her of a normal childhood). She discovered distance running in 2014 when she was training to hike across Spain but didn't have the time to go on longer hikes so resorted to running. In 2016, she came to the realization that you can not only hike on trails, but you can also run on them! She ran her first trail marathon in 2017 and applied to Becoming Ultra at the end of 2021 right after she had foot surgery for a foot injury that had sidelined her from running for a year and a half. Since then, she's re-fallen in love with trail running and has found amazing communities though Becoming Ultra and Trail Sisters. She's run two 50Ks, an “ultra” Ragnar, and has her first 50-mile race in Oregon in early July. Ever wonder where exposing your children to the great outdoors can lead? Caitlin grew up with parents who exposed her to lots of camping, hiking, and backpacking in amazing places. It is so fun to hear her talk about her adventures throughout her life, which includes a very special hike with her Dad. Caitlin shares her experience with training for her first ultra and the disappointment of dealing with an injury. We also discuss her first 50-mile race at Mt. Hood (that she crushed by the way). This is a fun, feel good episode. I will leave you with one of Caitlin's favorite quotes that I cannot stop thinking about. “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire”.

#AFLEuropePodcast | On this episode of One Kick Later we're very excited to be joined by Laura Turner-Ramadan. Laura first experienced Australian Football in a ten-month stay in Sydney and could not believe it when she heard there were teams playing back home in England. Well, it's since become quite the journey for Laura, which has included captaining and leading teams to AFL Europe's Champions League, Euro Cup, European Championships as well as the first Great Britain women's team to the AFL's International Cup in 2017. I've got no doubt you'll find Laura's love and motivation for the sport extremely infectious, as she shares her story and experiences on representing her country in international tournaments, the growth of the AFL London women's league and it being a proven pathway to the AFLW for players and coaches, having a child on an AFL Grand Final day and plenty more.
Big announcement! Olympic swimming champion Caeleb Dressel will be producing another Dressel Dissects video, and it will be his 100 scm IM World Record from the ISL. So, stay tuned. He feels guilty for not producing one for awhile, but he assured me that episode is coming. See his YouTube channel here. Caeleb was nice enough to drop-in for 15 minutes of conversation, and he unpacks his ISCA meet swims. If you missed it, ISCA ran yards in the morning and meters at night. Caeleb popped a 1:40 200 yard fly and 3:44 400 IM just to let you know he still loves yards, and he was happy with his 48.8 100 meters free. He felt those swims were on-point for in-season races. I tried to get to him to say he could drop a 1:36+ 200 yard fly shaven and suited, but he wouldn't go there. I think he's got that swim if he wants it. What do you think? Caeleb's got a mutual partner, SPIRE Academy, and he has high praise for their upcoming summer camps. You can see them here to sign up. I play the U.S. Olympic Trials prediction game, but I'm going to play again after the Mission Pro Swim as well. My predictions might change a little. I think I played it too safe below. I'm curious if commenters will change their predictions between now and next week. PREDICTIONS FOR U.S. OLYMPIC TRIALS Dressel is the master at double tapers. His Olympics will be faster than the US Trials. BUT AT TRIALS I SEE: 50 free - 21.3 (maybe a little slow) 100 free - 47 point 2 100 fly - 49 point 9 I want Caeleb to swim the 200 free, at least in prelims. I don’t know if he will. If he does, I see a 1:45 point 8 or 9, enough speed to show he’s a strong option for the 4x200 US relay. But who cares what I think? It is all about what you think. Give me your best swimming analysis.

Happy Holidays, friends old and new! If you are feeling like you are burning out from the holidays or from life in general, you are in the right place for a dose of inspiration. Join me and my guest, Maé-Bérénice Méité, a French international figure skating champion, as she shares her experience with burnout. It’s hard to imagine not having to navigate burnout at Maé’s level of competition. Here is a quick rundown of just some of Maé’s accomplishments: She is 2011 Ondrej Nepela Memorial Champion, the 2016 International Cup of Nice Champion, the 2015 Winter Universiade Silver Medalist, and a four-time French National Champion. During the 2018, Sochi Olympics she skated to Beyonce's "Run the World (Girls).” Yes, yes, and more yes! You may be thinking, “Come on Kara, here we go again with the buzzword, ‘burnout.’” Yet, burnout is real. In this episode, you’ll hear firsthand how an Olympic figure skater handles burnout (and how I do too). We talk about the REAL burnout. The kind of burnout that leaves you debilitated, feeling depressed, and anxious - something that we have to climb out of and push ourselves forward to thrive or, sometimes, do what we’ve got to do to survive. Maé shares some of things that worked for her and what she thought about her experience with burnout all so we can learn from her perspective. We also talk about how women can get closer to being in the flow state, especially in high pressure situations. Fix yourself a large cup of tea, and allow Maé and I to offer you some sonic comfort and conversation.
