From Rural Pennsylvania to the World's Greatest Opera HousesFor most kids who grow up in a small rural town, the world's great opera houses can feel unimaginably far away. For Melanie Henley Heyn, they became home.In this episode of HarmonyTALK, host Lisa Champeau sits down with the internationally acclaimed opera singer whose journey began at age ten in a production of Amahl and the Night Visitors and eventually carried her from Wayne County in Northeastern Pennsylvania to stages across Europe and beyond.Fresh off a performance at The Cooperage Project in Honesdale, Melanie reflects on the winding path from small-town dreamer to professional artist, the discipline required to pursue a career in opera, and why she believes great art has the power to bring people together rather than drive them apart. The conversation explores the realities of pursuing one of the world's most demanding art forms, overcoming self-doubt, and learning to trust your own voice.Melanie also shares her belief that artists have a responsibility to help people see beyond labels and assumptions, finding connection through stories that reveal both the beauty and complexity of human nature.Filled with warmth, humor, honesty, and inspiration, this episode offers an intimate look at a remarkable artistic journey that began in rural Pennsylvania and continues to unfold on stages around the world.

From the Black Forest to Honesdale: A Story Grown by HandWhat does it look like to build a life slowly, intentionally, and with your hands in the soil?In this episode of HarmonyTALK, host Lisa Champeau sits down with Gudrun Feigl, founder of Mount Pleasant Herbary, whose journey from Germany's Black Forest to Northeastern Pennsylvania is rooted in memory, creativity, and quiet persistence.Gudrun did not set out to become an entrepreneur. Trained as a social worker, she arrived in the United States through a work exchange program, eventually settling in a town that, at the time, felt uncertain and still finding its identity. Over time, as she built a life in Honesdale, something else began to grow. What started as homemade herbal teas shared at Christmas evolved into a small table of three products and eventually into a vibrant shop filled with dozens of handcrafted goods. Today, Gudrun grows her own herbs, creates in small batches, and offers workshops that invite others into the joy of making. This conversation explores creativity, slow growth, community collaboration, and the courage to follow curiosity without a clear roadmap. It is a story about building something meaningful without rushing the process and finding fulfillment in both the making and the sharing. If you have ever wondered whether small beginnings can lead to something lasting, this episode offers a gentle and inspiring answer.Follow Mount Pleasant Herbary:InstagramFacebookFollow HarmonyTALK Podcast:InstagramFacebookYouTubeLinkedin

In this hard-hitting episode, Joe dives deep into the growing global conversation surrounding the Great Replacement a cultural and demographic shift affecting Western nations from Australia and Europe to right here in America. From courts favoring immigrants over citizens in the name of “inclusivity,” to the collapse of public education where children are taught Critical Race Theory instead of reading and writing, Joe exposes how everyday Americans are being pushed to the back of the line in their own homeland. Powerful on-the-ground clips, including a Philadelphia teen facing expulsion for exposing illiteracy in his classroom and disturbing examples of normalized anti-white harassment, paint a raw picture of a society many no longer recognize. The fight against systemic failure continues with returning guests Mike Morris and Steve Smith, who share their exhausting 13-year legal odyssey in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. What began as a simple slander lawsuit and Chapter 11 bankruptcy to protect their property spiraled into trustee overreach, disputed settlement funds, a forged email scandal, and even detention by the U.S. Marshals without a warrant. Despite a jury victory in May 2025, they're still battling to recover damages and hold accountable those who they say manipulated the bankruptcy system against them. Their story is a sobering look at how the courts and trustees can turn justice into a weapon. Finally, Sherry McGann joins the show to recount her devastating battle in paradise. After investing over $1.5 million into her dream eco-tourism mushroom farm on Maui, Sherry says she was betrayed by business partners with alleged China connections, locked out of her own property through forged DocuSign documents. Her ongoing bankruptcy and legal fight expose shocking allegations of partnership deception and institutional stonewalling.Don't miss this compelling episode packed with real stories of Americans fighting back against a system that feels stacked against them.

The concept is to create points of interest along Route 191 north and south of Honesdale and establish sites to visit which serve as sources of pride for each community. This last weekend, dozens celebrated the dedication of Equinunk's stop along the Creative Communities Art Trail. It's at the Equinunk Historical Society along 191 north of Honesdale, a community steeped in history yes, but also with an artistic tale to tell. Jim Weiss has evolved Real Chemistry from a one-person consultancy into an international leader in health innovation. Currently, he serves as Chairman and Founder and as Executive Advisor to New Mountain Capital, Real Chemistry's investment partner. Jim is a healthcare, biopharma, medical tech entrepreneur, business leader, and digital health pioneer. He's been named a Top 50 Health Influencer and Innovator of the Year. Last year, he received the Trailblazer Lifetime Achievement Award.  His affable curiosity began in our hometown of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, and was furthered at his alma mater, Syracuse University, where he was inducted into the Newhouse School's 50 Forward as one of its most accomplished graduates of the last 50 years. Jim and his wife Audra also founded the Weiss Center for Social Commerce at S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. In this episode, Jim talks with Todd Stephens about taking the leap from big pharma to launching a start-up. He recounts his early days becoming the leader that, perhaps, no one saw coming. He also touches on the next phase of his career. Through it all, Jim says his commitment to family and giving back kept him grounded. Still, he dispels the myth of work-life balance. He believes the pursuit of “downtime” and "work time" will usually merge. When he's not working, he loves to watch his Northern California teams and listen to The Grateful Dead or see Dead and Co. live! Jim resides with his wife and two children in the Bay Area.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
