After founding HHAUSA in 2019 our first big fundraising goal was to raise enough money to sponsor an entire Honor Flight to Washington DC for our Veterans here in Central Wisconsin. Thousands of arrows, dozens of archery shoots and $70,000 later, that dream became a reality on October 16th of this year. One of the perks of sponsoring a flight was getting to choose two guardians to fly and accompany Veterans on this day to remember. Mari Austin, an employee at HHA Sports, was one of those guardians. Her parents both served in World War II, were married for 68 years, and passed away within three days of one another. Sadly, neither was able to go on their Honor Flight. However, Mari was able to honor them both in a very special ceremony at the World War II Memorial in October. She shares that experience, more about her trip and the life of her parents on this very special episode. On this Veteran's Day weekend, we want to thank all those who have served our country and continue to make it the land of the free, because of the brave. Let us never forget all those who have served to protect our freedoms. We cannot ever take that for granted. For more information about The Honor Flight Network, visit honorflight.orgFor more information about HHAUSA and how you can support our mission, visit www.hhausa.orgTo purchases HHAUSA hats, shirts, challenge coins and tumblers, visit www.hhasports.com
Little did I know that volunteering for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight seven years ago would lead me to starting HHAUSA. Such are the plans of God that are so much higher than anything we could ever dream up on our own.For those not familiar with the Honor Flight, it is a nonprofit organization that sends World War II, Korea and Vietnam Veterans on an all expense paid trip to Washington DC to visit the memorials erected in their honor. Having been on the flight six times as a guardian, I can say that it is one of the best days of my life and I cannot imagine the emotions felt by our Veterans.I am blessed and honored to have Earl Morse, Veteran and Physician Assistant and Co-Founder of the Honor Flight Network joining me on this very special 100th episode of The HHAUSA Podcast.Starting to see an influx of World War II Veterans during his practice in the early to mid 2000's, Morse would ask all of them if they had plans to visit the newly constructed World War II Memorial in Washington DC that was built in their honor. Getting far more nos than yeses, Earl felt compelled to take matters into his own hands and the rest, as they say, is history.I'd like the conversation to speak for itself so won't dive much further into the details of a podcast I have looked forward to for the better part of two years. Suffice it to say, with over 130 chapters across the United States and now in access of 250,000 Veterans flown to our nation's capital to see the memorials, the Honor Flight Network has changed countless lives and will continue to do so for decades to come.Earl, thank you for your service and for being a light to so many. I look forward to the day that we can break bread together, swap stories and give thanks for the many blessings that we have been given by the God we serve. To learn more about the Honor Flight, visit www.honorflight.orgYou can also find Earl Morse on Facebook or email him at founder@honorflight.orgFor more information about HHAUSA and how you can support our mission, visit www.hhausa.orgTo purchases HHAUSA hats, shirts, challenge coins and tumblers, visit www.hhasports.com
Our conversation today with Dianne Klopp, founder & President of Honor Flight Top of Virginia included one of her board members (and a dear friend of mine), Bill North. The pair gave a history of the organization and explained how the Top of Virginia "hub" was formed. Bill told us about his experience on one of the missions where his son accompanied him. Dianne walked us through how the trips work, and the itinerary for the day and encouraged listeners to participate in the "welcome home" receptions they host after each trip. She gave us dates and details for the next three missions they have planned: Mission #16 will depart from Loudoun County on Saturday, April 29, 2023; Mission #17 will depart from Winchester on Saturday, June 3, 2023; and Mission #18 will depart from Harrisonburg on Saturday, September 23, 2023. Honor Flight Network is a national nonprofit organization comprised of independent hubs - like Top of Virginia - working together to achieve the Honor Flight mission. Participation in an Honor Flight trip gives veterans the opportunity to share this momentous occasion with other comrades, remember the fallen, and share their stories and experiences with other veterans. Honored veterans always travel free of charge, thanks to generous donations to the organization. Honor Flight Network currently honors those who served during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and veterans of any service era who are critically ill. Honoring and Celebrating America's Veterans. The host for this show is Jay Fidell. The guest is Meredith Rosenbeck. Meredith Rosenbeck, CEO of Honor Flight Network in Washington, helps us understand its mission. Of course, we want to be a nation where all our veterans experience the honor, gratitude, and community of support they deserve. The Honor Flight Network is a national network of independent Hubs working together to honor our nation's veterans with an all-expenses paid trip to the memorials in Washington, D.C., a trip many of our veterans may not otherwise be able to take. Participation in an Honor Flight trip gives veterans the chance to share this momentous trip with other veterans, to remember friends and comrades lost, and share their stories and experiences with each other. Jeff Miller, who owns a dry cleaning business in Hendersonville, North Carolina, talks about the World War II veterans, including his father, who imbued his upbringing with patriotism and a sense of community, and the fateful spark that led him to co-found the Honor Flight Network.
The Honor Flight Network is an organization with chapters across the nation dedicated to celebrating America's veterans by escorting them to Washington DC to visit the nation's memorials. On Saturday, August 27, Honor Flight Dayton is asking for people to gather at the Dayton Airport to greet and cheer for more than 100 veterans returning that evening.
Honor Flight New England joined with the national organization Honor Flight Network in the Spring of 2009, and is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring America's most senior veterans. Through generous donations, we transport our heroes to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials AT NO COST TO THE VETERAN. Top priority is currently given to the WWII Veterans, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. Beginning in the Spring of 2016, Honor Flight New England will also begin transporting Korean War Veterans. With approximately 500 WWII Veterans dying each day, and many Korean War Veterans not being far behind in age, our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.Our first flight was on June 13, 2009. It was a humbling experience to be with these Veterans on our maiden voyage to D.C. Of those 50 Veterans and Guardians traveling with us, on board were 14 WWII II Prisoners of War and 5 World War II Heroes, including one hero that lost his sight while serving his country.Honor Flight New England has learned a lot over these last six years, most notably that our veteran heroes aren't asking for recognition. It is our position that they deserve it. Our program is just a small token of our appreciation for those that gave so much. Please help us continue to make their dream of visiting THEIR memorials a reality. It's impossible to put into words, either on paper or in a two hour podcast, how life changing a trip on the Honor Flight is. Less than 12 hours removed from what would be my third flight in the past four years, I will attempt to do just that and bring you, our listeners, along on this truly remarkable day.For those not familiar with the organization, The Honor Flight Network consists of 128 chapters across the United States that flies Veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam to the memorials erected in their honor to our nation's capital. Founded in 2005 by Earl Morse, an Air Force Physician's Assistant, the Honor Flight has now flown over 250,000 Veterans to DC, completely free of charge.Beginning with the preflight dinner and culminating in a triumphant welcome home at the local airport, this whirlwind 48 hours will mark some of the best moments in the lives of those fortunate enough to make the journey. A civilian myself, having never served our country, I can tell you that there are few experiences on this earth that will ever approach going on an Honor Flight. From seeing 100+ Veterans assembled on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to a man crying at the Vietnam Wall, mourning the loss of a brother still in his teens, to witnessing dozens of young children on school trips thanking these men and women for their service, the day is filled with emotion and healing.I could go on for hours with the stories but will leave you to enjoy what has been our longest podcast to date. Listen for yourself and find out why the Honor Flight is so near and dear to my heart and was the catalyst for starting HHAUSA.If you would like to volunteer, attend a trip as a guardian or sign up a friend or loved one who would qualify for the Honor Flight, please visit www.honorflight.org to find your local chapter and get involved today with this amazing organization.

U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Harrisonville) is blasting the Biden administration and the Interior Department over the department's apparent decision to stop providing police escorts for American veterans who travel to Washington as part of the Honor Flight Network. Congresswoman Hartzler, who serves on the House Armed Services Committee, describes the Honor Flights as one of the most inspiring programs in the nation. She is joining U.S. Sens. Roy Blunt and Josh Hawley (both R-Missouri) in demanding answers from the Interior Department, and she says Interior Secretary Deb Haaland should be called to testify before Congress. 939 the Eagle has contacted the Interior Department seeking comment on the changes, and they have not responded yet:
IN THE NEWS Jeff takes a nostalgic trip back to Camp Pendleton. Jeff and Ashley get excited for their upcoming trip to support an American Legion rucking crew at the Boston Tough Ruck in April. THIS WEEK'S GUEST We're joined by Carol Lindamood Harlow, Chief Development and Communications Officer for the Honor Flight Network and Terry Campbell, who participated in an all-women Honor Flight from Chicago in October of 2021. Terry shares about her experience on the flight, and Carol talks about the history of Honor Flight, how the process works to participate or volunteer for an Honor Flight and what is on the horizon for the organization, and how The American Legion Family can help support their mission. RAPID FIRE Paranormal believers efforts lead Congress to pass legislation ordering Pentagon to investigate UFOs. Crayons Ready To Eat Special Guests: Carol Lindamood Harlow and "Terry" Joyce Campbell.
The Honor Flight Network will always be credited as a catalyst for the beginnings of HHAUSA. Serving as a ground volunteer in central Wisconsin, I was instantly drawn into the organization and how everyone involved worked together to put on a first class experience to honor our Veterans. Flying to Washington DC as a guardian on two separate trips only furthered my love for something that is nearly impossible to put into words. That same love captured the hearts of Drew and Diane MacDonald in Appleton back in 2009 and the Old Glory Honor Flight was born. Over 50 flights later, lives are being changed by the work that Diane and her passionate group of volunteers continue to do in Northeastern Wisconsin. From hosting flights at EEA AirVenture in Oshkosh and providing a "welcome home" to tens of thousands of adoring fans to a once in a lifetime trip back to Vietnam for 52 Veterans, Old Glory is doing some amazing work, changing countless lives along the way.HHAUSA is fortunate enough to partner with the MacDonald's and Old Glory Honor Flight and several other chapters across The Badger State. We encourage anyone that knows a World War II, Korea or Vietnam Veteran to get them on the waiting list for your local chapter and give them the opportunity to experience some "Honor Flight Magic" as Diane likes to call it. The impact that a single flight can have on the lives of so many will last a lifetime, something all of our Veterans deserve to feel for their service and sacrifice to our country. To Drew and Diane and to all those who make the Honor Flight what it is, thank you for your service. You are truly a blessing to these heroes and their families and your work has not gone unnoticed.

Storytelling with Honor Flight network Co-Founder Earl MorseToday's guest is inspirational to many, even if he's not technically a motivational speaker. But, he has motivated thousands of people to mobilize and serve on an amazing mission.Earl Morse co-founded an organization that serves veterans in their later years – starting first with World War II vets, moving on to Korean War and Vietnam vets. It's called Honor Flight Network, and it's made up of more than a hundred local hubs… all because Earl saw a need and convinced a few other pilots to begin flying veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the memorial built in their honor.Since May 21, 2005, thousands of veterans have taken their Honor Flight from all over the country. Earl Morse tells a great story, and has heard many, many more.“The world is free because of [these veterans]. Last year he discussed his for-profit work in Photography, this year's conversation is the opposite. Robin kindly sat down for a few minutes to discuss his volunteer work with HONOR FLIGHT, and challenges you, Photographer, to serve the cause. What is Honor Flight? Their website explains it best: "Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation—and as a culturally diverse, free society. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an estimated 640 WWII veterans die each day. Our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out." A brief conversation, in less than 15 minutes you'll learn: Specifically what Robin is doing for the vets he meets What it's like to travel through the airport with these vets How you can get involved, too If you missed last year's conversation with Robin Janson, FIND IT HERE.
