Jason Ryles is ushering in a new era for the Eels - even if the result didn't go the right way tonight - and so too is The Tip Sheet stepping into the bold world of tomorrow today as the podcast now brings you bona fide talking heads! Let us know what you think of the new format and help us catch all the gremlins that come with the new territory. It wasn't pretty and they certainly didn't come away with the win but crucially for the Parramatta Eels - they avoided any sort of serious injury in their 30-18 loss to the Wests Tigers. The Tip Sheet unpacks a rather messy affair from the Blue & Gold in a game where they were drowned out by errors and set restarts. Sixties and Forty20 point to some individual defensive lapses and the general struggles to complete sets as key teaching tape before looking at the positives to come from the final trial game. Isaiah Iongi was certainly on such positive with the 21-year-old custodian scoring a sizzling solo try before laying on a four-pointer for Sean Russell. The boys also laud the efforts of Will Penisini, Jack Williams, J'maine Hopgood, Luca Moretti and Ryley Smith in proof that it wasn't all bad for the Eels at Leichardt.
The Parramatta Eels have a new captain! As expected, Jason Ryles has turned to Mitchell Moses to lead the Blue & Gold into a new era. Sixtes and Forty20 breakdown what the appointment means for the player and club. Junior Paulo and J'maine Hopgood were expected inclusions for the leadership group but new recruit Jack Williams continues to make waves as he too earns a place on the panel. The Tip Sheet recpas the last week in Parradise including a camp in Lennox Head and news that Josh Addo-Carr is officially clear to play in Round 3 against the Bulldogs. Sundry news includes a fan day at CommBank Stadium this saturday and upcoming Parramatta Leagues Club elections for the board. The NRL is full of good-news/bad-news this week starting with the Rabbitohs. Latrell Mitchell is clear to play Round 1 but Campbell Graham has a new injury. Ditto for the Tigers where Jarome Luai looks good for his club debut in Round 1 while fellow Penrith recruit Sunia Turuva is now in doubt. At the Dragons, Shane Flanagan has secured the services of Emre Guler effective immediately while the future of Francis Molo is still up in the air. The podcast takes a moment to acknowledge the passing of South Sydney great Gary Stevens. Junior Representatives are back this weekend and the show runs through four rapid fire previews of the Lisa Fiola, Tarsha Gale, Harold Matthews and SG Ball. The ladies are on the road to Canberra while the lads head to Cessnock to face the Raiders and Knights respectively.

The Jersey Flegg nervously await on two other results this week while the NRLW look to bounce back from a tough loss to the Knights. The backdrop to all of this is Parramatta's final home game of the season in the NRL as The Tip Sheet previews a busy round against the St George Illawarra Dragons (and Wentworthville Magpies!). Sixties and Forty20 discuss the member's event hosted by the club this week that included the news of J'maine Hopgood's extension. There are some bizarre tidings out of Tiger Town so the boys take a moment to look at what is happening there before the show turns to 5 previews.
This week I'm joined by Andrew Hopgood. He helped set up community projects using volunteers with lived experience and was recently involved with the Kahukura rehabilitation programme for the Mongrel Mob. Andrew is a lecturer on WelTec's Bachelor of Counselling and Addictions program. In this episode, Andrew shares his journey with trauma and addiction, his work with ‘the unreachables' (gang members and their whanau), intergenerational trauma and why we need more rehabilitation facilities in New Zealand. We talk about: Finding bliss with his first joint and a ready supply of speed from the bikers next door The human condition: pleasure-seeking and avoiding pain at all costs Why, when it comes to addiction, your environment is everything Intergenerational trauma and child poverty in New Zealand The moment with his daughter that changed everything Not realising he had an addiction until he tried to stop Staying clean, finding a job with purpose, and getting a degree The opposite of addiction is connection Gang whanau who don't know what trauma is The importance of feeling difficult emotions The inevitable payback when substances stop working The 4 Ls assessment tool: Liver, Lover, Legal, and Lifestyle, as a snapshot of where you are right now What calls him forward and guarding his currency for joy (dopamine) Spikes of dopamine (going for the quick fix) versus sustained release Doing the fucking work and not passing your trauma onto your kinds Why that first cigarette of the day is the best cigarette of the day Peer pressure and the importance of teaching young people to self-soothe Not punishing yourself, creating balance and moving through your triggers The power of finding a safe person who will call you out on your bullshit Intergenerational trauma and the boy's homes in the 60s and 70s Treating addiction as a biopsychosocial problem and why we need more rehabilitation facilities We would love to know what stood out the most for you in this episode. For the second game running the Parramatta Eels rattled the cages of their highly touted opposition. Brad Arthur and his troops had the Broncos well and truly on the backfoot with an aggressive game plan that picked apart Brisbane's edges. Alas, as with the loss to Manly...a string of individual lapses proved costly as the Broncos ran out 30-14 victors. Sixties and Forty20 put on the snorkels and dive into the breakdown of a thoroughly entertaining, if frustrating, result that saw plenty of players deliver positive performances. Dylan Brown, Reagan Campbell-Gillard and J'maine Hopgood stood up among the senior players while all eyes were glued on rookie sensation Blaize Talagi as he put an early error behind him to electrify the crowd.
Clint is back for this week's news podcast as The Tip Sheet jumps into a massive Team List Tuesday that is missing both Clinton Gutherson and Mitchell Moses. Blaize Talagi has been named to the coveted #1 jersey but the news comes at the same time as a breaking story that the young Eel will go to the open market. What does this mean for the club and who are the real threats to Parramatta when it comes to keeping their young star? The club debuted its 2024 indigenous jersey, styled around the rugby league story of J'maine Hopgood. The boys share their thoughts and look at the unofficial alternate strip. The rest of the Eels' news focuses on a new corporate partner, the Flegg getting a win in Fiji, new female pathways and a change to the NRL board of directors. The Round 9 NRL wrap yielded some close games and very controversial calls as the show breaks down all of the action. Aidan Sezer wasn't sinbinned but is copping a 4-week ban for a hip-drop-adjacent tackle. Was it the right call or is the NRL back to its inconsistent worst? The biggest flow on from the wrap up is the criticism leveled at officials following a dreadful round of calls. Kasey Badger has been the primary target of abuse and The Tip Sheet breaks down what is fair game and where lines have been crossed. There is a massive player transaction on the horizon as both the Penrith Panthers and Sydney Roosters hunt the signature of David Fifita. The Titans' backrower has a clause in his contract to void the next two years of his deal if he opts out by Round 10 and the two Sydney powerhouses are hungry to boost their stocks with the game breaker.

The traditional Easter Monday derby between the Parramatta Eels and Wests Tigers is upon us once more as Sixties and Forty20 run their eyes over the public holiday blockbuster. First things first though, the boys breakdown the games that have already taken place with the junior representatives playing out their final regular season games of the year. The Lisa Fiaola, Harold Matthews and SG Ball squads all booked their place in the finals while the Tarsha Gale finished their season on a high with a thumping defeat of the Panthers. Breakthrough wins are up for grabs for the Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup this week - so how do they go about achieving them? Change could come to the Cup squad one way or another this week so how do they potentially shape up. The NRL preview sees an amped up Tigers, fresh off a monster win over the Sharks, taking on our Eels in a blockbuster at CommBank Stadium. Brad Arthur has turned to Blaize Talagi to replace Mitchell Moses while Maika Sivo makes his return from suspension on the left wing. Sixties and Forty20 point to Clinton Gutherson and J'maine Hopgood as the key men on Monday before giving their tips for an Eels' win.
TK, Andy and Pat are back break down NRL Fantasy round 2 TLT. The boys break down the burning questions from TLT including: Why you should be patient with under performing guns? Should you BUY Terrell May? Best replacement for Spencer Leniu? Is McInnes a hold or sell? Moses trade out or hold? Thoughts on Hopgood and Lane and whether to chase the Carty party? Do we chase Fogarty and his upper upside? Is it Tommy Talau season And much much more!! Come join us in the Talking League Cup.
