The Lord's justice will be done; we can be ready and welcome it or we can stand against it; but it will come nonetheless. READING Jeremiah 20:7-13 O Lord, you have enticed me, and I was enticed; you have overpowered me, and you have prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all day long; everyone mocks me. For whenever I speak, I must cry out, I must shout, "Violence and destruction!" For the word of the Lord has become for me a reproach and derision all day long. If I say, "I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name," then within me there is something like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot. For I hear many whispering: "Terror is all around! Denounce him! Let us denounce him!" All my close friends are watching for me to stumble. "Perhaps he can be enticed, and we can prevail against him, and take our revenge on him." But the Lord is with me like a dread warrior; therefore my persecutors will stumble, and they will not prevail. They will be greatly shamed, for they will not succeed. Their eternal dishonor will never be forgotten. O Lord of hosts, you test the righteous, you see the heart and the mind; let me see your retribution upon them, for to you I have committed my cause. Sing to the Lord; praise the Lord! For he has delivered the life of the needy from the hands of evildoers. I've known Ike Ndolo for 20 years, and when we first met, he didn't know how to play a single chord on the guitar. But in September 2018, Ike released his third album, “Shine” – and it is beautiful.   Time is truly amazing, and Ike's journey reminded me of this quote from Colin Powell: “A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” And the more you get to know Ike, the more applicable this quote becomes.   Ike grew up in Missouri as the son of Nigerian immigrants and, according to his bio, “the life of Ike Ndolo is a woven tapestry of experiences: hymns and Bob Marley, injustice and mercy, discrimination and acceptance. As a result, Ike has become a well-tested navigator of the human experience.”   His goal is to share and guide listeners through stories that inform and even reorient their perspective. His music harkens back to his soulful gospel roots, mixing it with new wave R&B, modern influences, and a few choice synth beats to create something “that musically mirrors the many worlds he walks through daily.”   When you listen to Ike's music, he wants you to explore what you think about yourself, consider your negative perceptions, and then choose to SHINE.   “We're all afraid of the unknown and what the world has to offer. But more than that, we're afraid of what we have to offer. We're afraid of what's inside and who we are. We're afraid of our potential and what we could be and what we're supposed to be. We're afraid of how brightly we can shine.”   We bury what we want to do, what we can do, under what we feel we ought to do; what's right, what's proper, what's normal. We get so bogged down in these ideas that we never take a risk, look inside ourselves, and figure out what we truly have to offer the world.   “Out of darkness and despair and doubt and rejection, shine” – and don't let that shine be taken away from you.   --     Resources: Learn more at http://www.ikendolo.com/ (http://www.ikendolo.com/) Buy Shine on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/shine/1432386982 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ikendolomusic/ Instagram: @ikendolo YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5hy8oilLmMbRJ6m2TsO30A   --   We are brought to you by the Lawton Marketing Group, a full-service advertising and design agency serving companies and entrepreneurs at all levels.   Our humanness is the path to this great acceptance that we don't have to become something or (someone else) to be connected, to live inside the experience of Grace and I know our suffering is a part of that.   Every road has its story.   "Music is so transcendant and can break down a lot of barriers and walls. Grace is huge bc you haven't even asked for it but it's available. Even the biggest sinner is never far from Grace. When it comes to your run of the mill mistakes like ones I've made that's really good news. But it's almost like too big in a way, that Grace is so big it's available to everyone no matter who you are. Which I think for some people is a hard thing to wrap their minds around. Nobody is beyond Grace. God is always near. We are not abandoned that to me is encouraging and beautiful. Even in the midst of our own brokenness in a broken world, a very broken world, we are not abandoned. I believe in the endurance of the soul." - Ike Ndolo   Growing up in Missouri as the son of Nigerian immigrants, the life of Ike Ndolo is a woven tapestry of experiences: hymns and Bob Marley, injustice and mercy, discrimination and acceptance. As a result, Ike has become a well-tested navigator of the human experience. He aims to share and guide you through stories that inform and even reorient your perspective.   With deep and soulful gospel roots, Ike draws from new wave R&B and powerful, vocal-driven performances, calling on modern influences such as Anderson .Paak and St. Paul and the Broken Bones. Sprinkle in some synth beats and surprising deconstructions of his former style and this makes his newest album, “Shine,” a monument that musically mirrors the many worlds he walks through daily. Ike Ndolo released three singles in the summer of 2018, “Guiding Light,” “Your Table” & “Follow Me,” all of which are featured on his third LP, “Shine,” released on September 17th, 2018. Recorded at Gnome Studios in Nashville, TN in conjunction with Hardspeak Records.   I am BEYOND excited to share this episode of Soul Crush featuring Ike Ndolo, an amazing musican and human of devotion. We get in to how music heals and transmits the energy of Grace, working with grief and spreading the true teachings of Christ.    What a deep honor have a listen and find Ike's music on spotify, connect with him on his website and instagram. In this episode of Conversation on Tap, Joel and Jose interview Abraham Melendrez, a candidate for the Santa Maria-Bonita School Board. Abraham has been endorsed by local teachers, and, as teachers, Joel and Jose are very honored to have him on the show. Before the show got underway, Joel and Jose talked about their drink: Rincon, which is Spanish for "corner" or "the spot." In their FRED Talks, Joel talked about the true meaning of some celebrations, such as Cinco de Mayo; Jose talked about the Catholic bishops document called Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship; and Abe talked about taking some time off to camapaign. As the conversation started, Joel and Jose asked  Abe a series of questions about his background, experience as an EL (English Learner) student, and his priorities for the school board. As they wrapped up, Jose talked about Bob Woodward's latest book entitled Fear and Ike Ndolo's latest album called Shine; Joel talked about an article called Everything You Know About Obesity is Wrong; and Abe talked about catching up with Stranger Things. That was our show! We hope you will encourage your friends and family to vote for Abe for school board! Cheers!
