Today’s guest, Dr. Rob Bell, is a sports psychology coach who focuses on mental toughness for athletes of all kinds. However, mental toughness goes beyond the football field or the basketball court. In Rob’s mind, we’re all athletes, our offices are just different. What is mental toughness? In Rob’s eyes, mental toughness is the ability to not only accomplish your goals but also to handle setbacks. While mental toughness alone won’t give you a trophy, lack of mental toughness can cause you to fail. Some Battles are Worth Fighting, Even If We LoseRob’s favorite aspect of being in business is the ability to take shots even if they aren’t winning ones. He says it’s all about the opportunity. As entrepreneurs, we have the power to choose what shots we take. Why not take as many as possible? You never know what the outcome will be until you try. Rob also emphasizes the importance of knowing your worth. It’s easy to be influenced by all the “no’s” and negative thoughts surrounding your work. Find your worth and charge accordingly for what you do best. You may still hear “no”, but it will make hearing “yes” much more valuable. Every Door Has a HingeRob’s wisdom for fellow business owners is to always look for the hinges in life. We always hear how doors open and close with opportunities, but it’s really the hinge that directs the door. What are the hinges in life? It could be one person, one moment, one decision that can make a big difference in your life. Sometimes, we can only see the impact of these hinges much later in life. Rob’s advice is to appreciate the journey, as that’s where all the growth and transformation comes from. Rob is ready to work with athletes of all kinds. In addition to his coaching services, Rob also hosts the “15 Minutes of Mental Toughness” podcast and is the author of several best-selling books, including “Puke and Rally: It’s Not About the Setback, It’s About the Comeback”Are you ready to increase your mental toughness? This week’s guest Robert Eastman embodies the concept that habits have consequences, some good and some bad. In Rob’s not so distant past the consequences of his habits were as follows: homeless, drug addict, and suicidal. Rob and I discuss how he’s learned from his past and how his mission in life has become helping others not make the same mistakes. Since turning his life around the consequences to Robert’s new habits are as follows: motivational Speaker, business owner, high school wrestling coach, and entrepreneur. Coach Eastman brings an insight to the world of addiction and mental illness only gained through living through it, and it was an absolute honor to have him on the podcast. "Your why for the first year of university could be, 'I want to get a better idea of what I like, and I want to absolutely kill these courses I'm taking even though I don't like them...You will develop grit, staying power (aka discipline), learn how to study and write an essay perhaps for the first time in your life, etc. These skills will benefit you for the entirety of your life." - Robert Borgersen "It's hard to turn a stopped ship. If you are a ship moving, all you have to do is make a rutter adjustment and you can change course. If the ship is stopped, you can make all the rutter adjustments you like...you won't go anywhere different." - Robert Borgersen Robert Borgersen is a Mathematics Professor at the University of Manitoba. Actually, he was my second Applied Finite Mathematics prof when I attended U of M (I was 17) because I failed the first time with a different prof. A big reason why I passed the second time around was due to Rob's teaching style, communication, and approach. Thanks Rob :) In this episode we chat about: Rob's journey to becoming a Math Prof COVID-19 impacts on education (from a prof's perspective) How to be successful in post-secondary education whether taking in-person or virtual courses Possible adjustments to online learning that would benefit students (ie increased # of tests...) The importance of volunteering Finding your why BEFORE going to university However, the real meat and potatoes of this episode is when we dive into money. In Rob's spare time/on the side, he started up a business called We Pay Off Debt which focuses on personal finance support and making a difference in people's lives financially. His personal finance journey includes: Paid off $41k in debt in about 18 months. Built up a $21,000 emergency fund Starting to put money towards retirement and kids education fund Also, we talk about the importance of not having a credit card as it relates to getting out and paying down debt. Currently, the Borgersen's are paying down their mortgage. I hope to talk to Rob again soon to do a part 2 because I want to talk to him about the order of this...and why this is important. A key point here I want to highlight is that he and his wife did all of this WITHOUT making any substantial raises. He did go out and make more money but only because they wanted to pay off more debt. A bit extra info on Rob. He was one of those kids who knew what he wanted to be when he grew up (in his case, a Math teacher). He did his Masters in Mathematics and has been teaching since 2005. He teaches typically 6 courses per year and spends 80% of his work-time actually teaching (we dive into other professors 'scenarios' in this episode in terms of what time is spent towards teaching and research). Lastly, for the first time on my podcast, this episode has freebie’s available for anyone listening to this episode. Check out www.wepayoffdebt.ca/dean for a couple of freebies associated with financial support. If you have any questions related to finance and anything discussed in the episode, you can reach out to Rob via email at Rob@wepayoffdebt.ca and let me know what you thought on my Instagram. Enjoy!
Avid Cross-Country Cyclist Living a Purpose-Driven Life Focused on Helping People Do Their Best Rob Hamilton started his career as a surveyor and in 1999 went on to solve the problem of decentralized companies needing flexible offices: co-working. His strengths lie in how he builds relationships within organizations that foster a desire for presence and connection within the space. Hamilton practices socially-conscious investing as an angel investor for multiple ventures as well as his philanthropy work for 1moreChild in Africa. My Key Takeaways I really enjoyed my interview with Rob. Mainly because he consciously knows his strategy and exactly how it supports the growth of whatever it is he's trying to change or impact at the time. He has much flexibility with how things develop but his strategy is a mindset approach and that never seems to waver. Rob takes very specific steps, the first knowing what it is he wants to achieve exactly, with the last being achieving the goal he set in the first place. In between those two places he puts everything into bite-size chunks, using language such as sprints and goals. His explanation of this process is by far more in-depth than I have just described and his description highlights the value that we could all reap from such a strategy - simplistic yet very effective! Rob also talks about openness with employees, clients and beneficiaries. We're generally much happier to share when things are going well but the key is to share when they're not. In Rob's experience this allows for all involved to address and utilise their attributes and skills to collectively make a difference. He recalls this is when the true and more long term culture of his company was realised and believes it was the catapult for the many years of success that followed. The great thing about this interview is It's a reminder that we already have the tools inside us to create the impact we want. In this episode, Rob asks his sister to talk about her super power: her ability to remember where she was on any eventful day of her life, not to mention what she was wearing—and for that matter, what anyone else was wearing. Not surprisingly, this is not a super power of Rob’s, but he’s curious about what it’s like to have a “pictographic memory.” Tricia contends that it is possible for anyone to remember the details of the earlier seasons and events of their lives, and tells how she advises new writers to develop that ability. This opening topic raises two questions for Rob that he asks Tricia to discuss: (1) What role does the truth play in story telling? And, (2) Rob quotes Rob Bell on the importance of knowing the specific differences between news, journalism and entertainment, as all three serve very different purposes. In Rob’s words, “There are some stories being told very well out there that are not news; they are not journalism, they are not based in fact. They’re just ‘trying to keep you on this web site’ for as long as we can.’” The second question Rob asks Tricia to discuss: “how do you approach grammar in your creative writing?” Tricia discusses that balance between appreciating the ‘rules’ of good grammar and punctuation, while not reading Facebook and other social media to be the grammar police! And did you even know that the word “yet” is funnier than the word “again?” Or that there is a paint color out there that is called, “Camel Spit?” Rob closes with an experiment he has wanted to try: what if we invite listeners to title the episode? And so, this episode will be known as The Untitled Episode to see if maybe a listener out there will send us “a winner of a title!”
In today's episode I bring you not one but two guests as I speak to Rob Ferrone and Adam Blomerley of Quick Release. Having started out as contractors, Rob joined forces with his co-founder, Adam Grant to launch Quick Release in 2003. In Rob's own words they were ‘two Excel types who saw a gap in the market and wanted to create a fun company of like-minded data geeks'. It was shortly after this that Adam Blomerley joined the business with his famous ‘5 year plan' - something we discuss in today's show. This saw the start of the transformation of Quick Release, moving them from a provider of quality automotive Change Management resource to a fully-fledged Product Data Management Consultancy. Over the following two decades Rob, Adam and Adam set about scaling firm to help them achieve their goal of ‘world domination', growing from a team of four into a global consultancy of over 200 people. Rob and Adam were fantastic guests and share some hugely candid insights into their journey and what it takes to grow a successful consulting firm. In this conversation we go into detail on a whole host of topics including: The early days of QR and how they were able to go from day rate contractors to building and scaling a successful consulting firm. The lessons they've learnt over the last two decades building Quick Release and the key steps that helped them grow to the size they are today. And Rob and Adam's detailed advice for anyone looking to build a successful career in consulting. I really enjoyed this conversation with Adam and Rob. One of the key values of Quick Release is that they are ‘Quite Refreshing', that they dare to be different, bringing a new approach and a fresh perspective and they certainly delivered that in this conversation. Rob Biederman, Co-Founder and CEO of Catalant Technologies is leading the market in enabling companies to get mission critical work done faster. This all begins with recruiting and how your organization is thinking about talent and the composition of the workforce. Rob continually asks leaders the question, “how well do you know your employees?” In Rob’s work, he has found that━more often than not━companies are constantly hiring new people to fill open positions. What they should be considering though, is how the talent they already have can rise to the occasion.
086 | Rob Angel is The Game Changer: How to Create Extraordinary Success Rob Angel is the creator of the uber-successful and iconic board game Pictionary. There was no business plan or go-to manual, he and his close friends simply put one foot in front of the other, loving what they were doing at every part of the journey. Then celebrated the many little victories along the way. Pictionary went on to become one of the best-selling board games of the past century, selling over 32 million games, in 60 countries, in 45 languages. Let me give you a scenario… You’re about to go into the biggest pitch meeting of your life, are you prepared for hearing NO? Or, have you spent your time prepping your pitch? You might be surprised to hear this, but I would encourage you to take the time to prepare for hearing NO. That doesn’t mean you go in there with a negative attitude, assuming that you’re NOT going to get the deal, it simply means that you know how you’re going to handle things if you do get a NO. In this week’s episode, Rob Angel, the creator of Pictionary joins Success Unfiltered, to share his story from 16 to 18 hour work days to now having one of the best-selling board games. In Rob’s first big pitch he was initially told NO, but he was prepared and ready to speak on the fly about the different ways purchasing his games could benefit the store. Rob encourages my listeners, to not just prepare their pitch, but to prepare to hear NO and to have 5 to 8 other speaking points beyond just their pitch. Doing this will help YOU be able to shift your pitch on the fly. If you’re ready to be a game changer in your business, then this episode of Success Unfiltered is a MUST LISTEN! Enjoy, and thank you for listening and tuning into Success Unfiltered! Your ratings and reviews really help and I read each one. Subscribe to the show on iTunes. Special thanks goes out to Rob Angel for taking the time to chat with Michelle. Be sure to join us next week for our next new episode! P.S. Why Clients Say NO...And Why It’s NOT The End Of The World. So you made your pitch. And the client said NO. Does that mean NO forever...or just “not right now?” Let me show you 3 reasons why being rejected today doesn’t mean you won’t make the sale tomorrow. Don’t lose heart! Grab my FREE guide “3 Ways To Turn a NO Into a YES” right HERE! Here are a few key secrets we talked about in this episode: Michelle introduces Rob Angel. Rob shares a little bit about himself and the game, Pictionary, which he created. There were several times when Rob was out trying to sell the game where he had to adapt on the fly. He shares one particular story that involved trying to get Pictionary into Nordstrom. It shows Rob’s ability to shift his reasoning on the fly. You’ll have to listen to hear the full episode. Rob believes that you need 5 to 8 different talking points any time you go in to pitch a product or service. Rob and his partners were shameless when it came to promoting their product. And were frequently sending their press releases to new sources to be featured. When Rob and his business partners were in the midst of trying to grow their product, Rob would work 16 to 18 hour days between his regular day job and then beating the pavement promoting Pictionary. Rob shares what he did to ensure he got a “time-out” from the work and could take a breather. “You have to have passion with a clear path to profitability.” ~ Rob Angel regarding his passion for his game Pictionary. When it came time to hold the launch party for Pictionary, Rob and his partners were working to put the finishing touches on the game, but ten days before the launch Rob receives a phone call from the printer, sharing Rob’s most devastating NO. You’ll have to listen to the episode to learn what it was. Despite this huge devastating NO, Rob and his partners bonded -- “Good things come from negatives,” as Rob said. Rob and his business partners ended up needing to host two launch parties because Rob had forgotten to invite the press to the first one. Both were a huge success, though! The most accomplished NO that Rob and his partners had involved Hasbro and the contract that Hasbro presented. This is a GREAT story, one you don’t want to miss! If times get tough, Rob recommends ensuring you have a strong network of people to talk to and look to for support. Another huge lesson that Rob shares it that when it comes to working with business partners and have the success of your business being the forefront, is to leave your egos at the door, and not bring them into the decision-making process. Rob shares a great story about how the color scheme for Pictionary was decided on and relates it to why we should leave our egos at the door. In 2001, Rob and his partners sold Pictionary to Mattel. Rob shares what he would tell his younger self. Connect with Rob Angel: Rob’s Website P.S. Why Clients Say NO...And Why It’s NOT The End Of The World. So you made your pitch. And the client said NO. The ‘normies’ have a close friend or family member that is in recovery and has had an impact on them. Myth: People who struggle with addition come from a bad or broken home and have no support. Truth: Until an addict says ‘Done’ no one can help them. Your heart may say you are done but your actions must demonstrate it. Addiction can come in many forms: Caffeine Sex Germaphobe Gambling Video Games We worry about it when it becomes difficult to perform our daily functions. Look at science. It starts uniting things. How you are wired Drug testing for your people or new recruits is dependent on state laws. Gray areas in states where marijuana is legal. You can put up a sign that says ‘We are a drug-free workplace.’ An addict’s descent into relapse occurs long before they take in the substance or activity. Talk to people to learn the signals of relapse. Usually, performance at work suffers and that is a signal. You must call them on it. If you ignore it will not go away. It is their addiction. You must protect the business. The success rate for addicts beyond the first time is not good. The success rate can be less than 10%. Faith-based success rate is over 80%. There is a 12 step program at Vision KC. There are many programs out there to help. If an addict plays the denial card there is no hope. Having the right culture in the company will help a recovering addict. The Christmas party is not at a bar. Do not ridicule the addict Opioid addiction can start with a prescription for pain because of an accident or the like If you are wired for an addition your pain killer can set you off. We are in an opioid epidemic in our country. Opioid addicts have treatment that others don’t. They can go on an alternative drug to get their life back, their job back, their family back. Our reward system is designed, in our brains, to give us big rewards, a dose of dopamine. We can find ourselves finding alternative ways to provide us the dose of dopamine. If you expose yourself you will become; In Rob’s book he talks about ‘The Law of Exposure’. It is as reliable as the Law of Gravity If you hang around bank robbers you will become a bank robber. If you hang around God-fearing men, you’ll become a god fearing man. Don’t risk a relapse by hanging out in the wrong environment. The way out is you need to believe in yourself. Myth: People believe that there is a moral shortcoming because you are an addict. Addiction is a family disease. The negative energy that destroys an addict’s life can be used to focus on recovery. By healing the addict the family heals. There is more going on than just a lack of willpower or corruption of a person. If you had an employee leave work to go for cancer treatment would your perception of the person going for addiction treatment be the same? The hard part of an addict is living life without. 10% is the drinking – 90% is the thinking. Mental illness, driving people to self medicate. Link

In Rob's latest interview, David Leadbetter reveals his experiences coaching young , hopeful golfers into successful champions. He discusses the importance of sports psychology, and keeping a positive mind on the game which reflects into the world of business, as well as how some golfers often pursue other career paths related to the sport instead of playing the tournaments. Success doesn't have to be being the best golfer in the world, and David explains that he always encourages his students to "shoot for the stars, as you might hit the moonKEY TAKEAWAYS ● Golf is an individual sport and it is unlike any team sports. You may get very hard on yourself. So, it's important that you're mentally ready also. ●Find your own formula or recipe for success. There's no specific mould for a top player. Every player is different. They are organized in their own way. they know how much golf to play, when to rest, how many practices they need, what food they want. ●Have the will to learn and be open-minded. Sharing ideas with other people. Learn from the very best and speak to other people how they become successful. Ask yourself: does it fit your way of thinking? ●You have to find a way to stay in the present. Like in golf, focus on one shot at a time. ●Get in the zone. It's the area where you're unaware of what's going on - so into the moment. ●Make sure you have a well-balanced life. Compartmentalize to balance the things in your life. If you do a specific thing like golfing, always give your 100%. Then if you do another, give again your 100%. ●Keep going. Just like in golf, the odds of being successful in most sports are high. Never give up on your dreams. ●There's certain discipline you acquire from golf that you could apply in your personal life. To be the best player, you have to have a goal, routine, and the mindset – just like any stuff you want to embark on in your life. ●Grow the game through coaching and making it more fun. If you want to grow the game, make it easy to play for people. Time is a luxury that some people can't have. Help them get better so they put more time. BEST MOMENTS ●“It's a difficult sport on the mental side of it. The top players probably have the best mental attitude.” ●“You have to learn to be your own best friend.” ●"Everything's a learning process in life." ●“There's a lot of adversary in golf. Rob Swanson is a master real estate investor AND educator. He has an incredible knack for simplifying complex things in an easy-to-understand way. In fact, the first time I met him, I walked away from our breakfast meeting and learned a new approach that LATER THAT SAME DAY created $30,000 in value for me, FROM SCRATCH (and anyone can follow the same approach and get similar, if not better, results). I sat down with Rob the other day and I share the "$30,000 breakfast" story as well as some other not-so-great horror stories of 'deals gone bad' - It's akin to a rite of passage among real estate investors. In Rob's case, he "accidentally" bought a hospital, and in mine, I missed out on an easy deal worth at least $200,000 with an NBA player. Anyway, Rob comes with my highest recommendations as someone who unconditionally gives, is loaded with integrity, genuinely wants to help people achieve their dreams and has the ability to do so. Check it all out on this latest release of the PK Experience...

I’ve spent a lot of time lately thinking about logistics. Supply chains might not strike you as a particularly interesting topic, but if you think about it, one of the first industries to be disrupted by our obsession with ordering everything and anything online, is the complex business of moving things around. To get a better handle on just what that kind of complexity entails, I met up with Rob van Egmond in Amsterdam, who runs a company called Quintiq. In Rob’s view, complexity is the natural state of 21st century companies. Trying to control it is futile. The key to mastery is reacting to it with agility.

Rob Loud is a yoga instructor in Boulder, Colorado. His story is unique and courageous. Rob transformed from someone who struggled for many years with dark drug and alcohol addiction into a person and teacher who transmits so much positivity in the world through his work as a yoga instructor. In Rob's classes, he always has an insightful message on cultivating mindfulness, acceptance, suffering, dealing with change, and self-discovery both on and off the mat. There is always a fun light-hearted element to his demeanor and asana practice. His classes can also be really challenging and allow space to grow as a yoga practitioner. Rob's willingness to be vulnerable and transparent about his battle with addiction and how his yoga practice saved his life. Rob passionately says, “My ability to touch just one person through yoga can have the same profound effect on them as it did for me. I know this going into any class I teach that I have an opportunity to change someone's life completely, give it a 180 degree turnaround.” In this conversation, we dive into the transformative power of breath as a keystone for managing discomfort and suffering. We discuss how important it is to have a sense of humor in life and he also tells us the simplest and best way to up-level any yoga pose. He believes that challenges are our teachers and says, “(Rock) Bottoms are great places to be because you have an opportunity to sink or swim. I found myself with nothing and at that point, that's when I started leaning into the practice a lot… it made me connect with my breath and it is the key to what has changed my life the most. I find equanimity and peace through my breath.” There's something in Psychology called Post-Traumatic Growth and it's when people who have experienced major stresses (heart attack, recovery from addiction, military combat, car accident) emerge from the stress to do something incredible in their lives that they would never have done had they not had the trauma. It's the beginning of their life story, not the end and Rob is a great example of that! We’ve got a seriously wise man on the show this week. Not only did he sell his business for way more than the original offer, he then strategically mapped out the framework for his second half and he is having a blast doing it! Rob’s goal for his life after business was to go into another venture, but despite feeling restless while working for the company he sold to, he only took the plunge once he had identified an opportunity that met the five strict criteria he’d devised. He is a great example of how good planning can set you up to succeed in a life after business, which of course is exactly why we’re here! How was the business valued when Rob first bought it? His investor used a multiple on the company’s net income and arrived at a figure. It was then agreed that whatever percentage of the figure Rob was able to pay would ultimately equal the share of the business he would receive. Rob eventually ended up hitting 100% and took full control of the business. How did he grow the business? The business was strictly grown out of profits. After the initial investor was out of the equation, there was no external financing. What was the key decision that made his first business a success? They hired a management consultant that forced them to really get a hold of their metrics. In his words: “that was the most transformational thing as CEO – it had the greatest impact”. The increased accountability for all staff made results improve immediately. One of my favorite things that Rob said was that the metrics and data got him and his employees all working in the same direction. The data became the measuring tool instead of Rob. He was able to move to the same side of the table as his employees instead of being the bad guy “telling” his employees what they needed to do. The data became the “hero” or “enemy”. They had real time information that measured how they were doing and allowed them to work as a team to march in the direction that was universally visible to everyone. What was the triggering event that lead Rob to sell? A larger competitor reached out to Rob and asked him if he was willing to sell. In Rob’s mind it wasn’t for sale, but he did provide the bidder with some rudimentary information to help with the process. He turned down two offers but remained in communication and set a price that would work, as well as some conditions. Rob stipulated that it must be a cash purchase and that the deal had to be concluded in the two months before year end. Miraculously the buyer agreed to the higher price and to all of the conditions. Why was the deal able to close so fast? A deal of that nature was only made possible because of the data dashboards and excellent book keeping Rob had put in place. Rob was able to provide all the information that the buyer wanted, and much more, almost immediately. The confidence that they buyer had in Rob and his operations eliminated any hidden surprises that may have popped up to derail the deal. The advantages of a strategic buyer vs. a financial buyer: In Rob’s experience a strategic buyer is easier to deal with. Due diligence is less rigorous and the price they pay is likely to be higher because they have the know how in the marketplace to make a return on the dollar they pay. He’d been receiving enquiries from private equity firms long before the sale but didn’t give them the time of day. Although he wasn’t particularly interested when the strategic buyer first came to the table, he was at least interested enough to volunteer information. What was it like being an employee after he sold? In Rob’s words: “I never considered myself an entrepreneur until I stopped running the show”. He s
In Rob's final podcast from Brazil he chats with Luana, his new found friend who shares her love of travelling. She explains why she would prefer to earn less working in hostels across the world, than keep her well paid job as a lawyer. They challenge each other on personal improvements they both want to make before they meet again. There's also some confusion over where one of her four mothers' lives and Rob's regret over never having tried one of Luana's cakes (not a euphemism). Terry began his prolific journey as CEO and founder of Trend, still a premiere DDC line in England, and by serving as President/CEO of Tridium Europe. His professorial explanation of what he terms, the “Building Internet of Things” and its underlying stack technology, represent a significant departure from the rather status quo of the past 25 years. We Were IoT Before IoT Was Cool. (originally posted on AutomatedBuildings.com – link to article) Open Source, Plug & Play, IoT, and an Automagically Connected Home, these are terms we hear all the time. But what do they really mean? And more importantly, what do they mean to the Integrator community? The connected buildings and devices that can be accessed via the web are not new. Integrators have been doing this for years. Most of the public didn’t know how, or really care how HVAC, lighting, access control, elevators, parking garages, etc. were controlled in the building they worked. This was all done “behind the curtain” and as long as they were comfortable, they didn’t even think about it. Calling All Building Systems Integrators! DGLux5 Training Oct. 7-9, 2015. The loss of a pet is like the loss of a child to pet parents. The love we share with our pets never dies, and in a new book called "Pets and the Afterlife" by Rob Gutro, the author provides proof that our pets do communicate with us from the other side. "I wrote this book to bring comfort to people who lost a pet and explain how our dogs and cats give us messages from the other side," Gutro said. "I'm a dog dad who lost two of my own beloved dogs and both have communicated with me, just as your pets are trying to get messages to you." Rob Gutro is a dog owner, dog rescue volunteer, medium/paranormal investigator for Inspired Ghost Tracking of Md. and scientist. In Rob's third book, "Pets and the Afterlife," readers will learn how dogs, cats, horses and some birds have the intelligence and ability to send signs to the living after they pass. They will take comfort in knowing our pets are around us from time to time in spirit and recognize the signs they give us. In addition, readers will learn about the different levels of intelligence that a pet develops and how they are used to communicate signs to the living after the pet passes away. Rob shares scientific studies that prove our pets have emotions and personalities. Read the science behind why living pets can sense entities. The author even takes the readers on a paranormal investigation where one of his dogs helps solve a mysterious canine mystery. Learn how our pets in spirit wait for us when it’s our time, what a pet’s ashes can do, the difference between ghosts and spirits and the science behind the energy they use to communicate with us. "The book also features my dog Buzz who was killed in an accident as a puppy, and became the world's greatest canine communicator in the afterlife," Gutro said. Rob's childhood dogs recently also made an appearance as his mother passed away. Three of the chapters are written by well-known mediums whose own dogs returned and communicated with them to assure them they were at peace. The book features medium Barb Mallon, Ruthie Larkin the Beantown Medium and Troy Cline. You'll read how Rob's dog Sprite passed and came to all three of these mediums with similar messages and how he revealed his presence to many people in the form of butterfly. Read an amazing story of how a ghost dog rescued a young girl who grew up to work for dog rescues, and how Rob encountered a tiny ghostly dog in a famous museum in England. Rob maintains a weekly blog, Facebook and Twitter pages, where he posts about paranormal topics, and where people can share their stories or find other resources on the paranormal. The books, "Lessons Learned from Talking to the Dead," and "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium," are available in paperback and E-book, on Amazon.com and other outlets.
In Rob's opinion (which doesn't count for much), Mark Geary is the finest singer/songwriter currently working today, so he was delighted when Mark dropped by to chat about his most recent album "Songs About Love, Songs ABout Leaving", his upcoming performance at the Gealach Gorm festival and treat us to no less than THREE acoustic tunes. Also, find out about Mark's brush with Christopher Walken in a sexy low-budget horror shlock film. The man's a legend.
Ladies & gentlemen, we are back! We're gonna kick off the season with some of the editions I didn't get around to publishing before the hiatus. First up is a DAMN fine mix from a buddy of mine in San Francisco who goes by the name Robert Mozaic. He's a singer and songwriter who got sidetracked by 808's and dark warehouses... which we all know those things are cheaper than a therapy. :) In Rob's words: "I had just gone through a bit of a broken heart sorta thing, the mix was kind of a letter I never sent (or rather made in its place). I titled it "Have a nice summer, don't ever change" because the mix reminded me of the kind of mixtapes a lot of us gave or were given back in the day. That and the title had a very different meaning to me privately... and to the person who will never get that letter..." The circumstances in which I met Rob were pretty funny. It was during his set at the closing after-party for Decibel Festival 2009 up in Seattle. I had gone to catch up with J-Phlip, but she had become quite ill and didn't make it over there. I was quite tipsy and was feeling the itch to play some records since she wasn't coming. But, I didn't want to just go up and push him off the decks. Everyone was telling me "No... It's OK! Rob is extremely cool and is probably done anyhow!" but I didn't believe them. Before I knew it, somehow, the plan was in motion and I looked up at Rob and sure enough... he had a look on his face of "No... seriously... I've been playing longer than I planned and would like to stop. Please feel free to jump in here." So, I did! We set up the turntables, and Rob graciously stepped away. I just remember thinking to myself "wow... this guy seems really nice"! And now, no trip to San Francisco feels complete unless I make some kind of contact with him. He's an excellent DJ, incredibly nice guy and definitely has great taste in all forms of music, as you will surely be able to tell from this edition. So, grab yourself a cup of hot chocolate and kick back and relax to this wonderful group of selections by Rob. Sidenote: Thank you all for your kind words in the absence of the series. It's been really nice to hear all of the kind words of appreciation. I'm glad so many of you appreciate it as much as I love putting it out. I will definitely try to be more consistent this time around. :) Also, we're going to go with the delayed tracklist again. I think it's an overall better experience if you don't know what's coming in the mix. Tracklists will be posted the following week when a new edition is posted. OK, that should cover it! Thanks again to Rob for the mix, as well as the patience. And, as always, thank YOU for listening!
