What happens when a marriage slowly drifts into loneliness, betrayal, and eventually divorce? And can God really restore something that broken? In this episode of Living Easy with Lindsey, Lindsey Maestas talks with author and marriage mentor Cheryl Scruggs about the painful season that led to an affair, the divorce that followed, and the unexpected seven-year journey that eventually led Cheryl and her husband Jeff back to each other. Cheryl shares honestly about feeling deeply alone in her marriage, the choices that led to brokenness, and the personal and spiritual transformation that made reconciliation possible. Their story is a powerful reminder that even when a marriage feels beyond repair, redemption is still possible. Have you ever reconnected with someone from your past and convinced yourself that things will be different this time? Second chances can feel hopeful… even exciting. Have you ever felt like you've made a mess of your life? If you're carrying regret, I hope you'll lean in—because this is for you. Do you remember Rahab? She's often referred to as “Rahab the harlot.” But that's not how God finished her story. He rescued her out of that life and gave her faith and a future. We aren’t told too many details of her early life, but we know she lived a life of sin for many years. But through a series of events, she bargained for her life with the two spies from the people of God, hid them in her home in exchange for protection for her family, and survived the slaughter and destruction of her country. Yes, she had a sinful past. Yes, she made choices she couldn't undo. But when she trusted the God of Israel, everything changed. She was spared. She married into God's people. She became part of the lineage of Jesus. Her name is even listed in Hebrews 11 among the heroes of faith. What a redemption! Maybe you have a past that still whispers shame. Maybe the enemy keeps replaying old failures in your mind. But if you've asked God to forgive you, that sin is covered. He remembers it no more. The enemy will try to hinder and handicap you because of your past. He hopes to keep you mired in guilt and rotten memories. If you’ve asked God to forgive you, your past is behind you. Let God take the guilt of your past, put it under his precious blood, and set you free to see what he can do with you. It’s never too late, and nothing is too hard for the Lord. Your past does not get the final word. God does. And he is still the God of second chances.
“When you've been really nihilistic in your life when you're younger, and then you feel you've been given a second chance.”Emma Barnett speaks to artist Dame Tracey Emin about her life and career. Emin rose to fame in 1990s as a disruptor of the art world, with her works, such as the sculpture ‘My Bed', gaining widespread media attention. Having been at the forefront of the modern art scene for over three decades, a solo exhibition has now opened at the Tate Modern in London showcasing 40 years of her work. She's well-known for channelling her life experiences into her artwork. Following a troubled childhood, in which she was a victim of sexual abuse, Emin battled alcohol addiction throughout her adult life. However, she gave up alcohol after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer in 2020 - which is now in remission.Emin views the experience as a ‘second life', and believes the lifestyle change has been for the better.Thank you to the Ready to Talk with Emma Barnett team for their help in making this programme. For many years now God has given me the unbelievable opportunity to encourage you to believe that God’s Word is relevant to every need of your life. Quite frankly, no one is more surprised than I am to discover God could or would allow me this privilege of starting this ministry. I really blew it big time. After being raised in a wonderful Christian home and accepting Jesus into my life at an early age, after a Christian education and good churches all my life, after much Bible teaching and knowledge, I chose to put God on the back seat of my life and do my own thing, as we say. And for ten long years I walked away from my commitment to the Lord and lived a life that brought no glory to God and damaged my testimony for Jesus. It should remind you we serve the God of second chances. Sometimes I think maybe one major reason God has chosen to bless me with this ministry is to demonstrate his graciousness and second-chance nature. I am living proof that even though I strayed from the narrow road, he has miraculously salvaged me. I want to encourage you to know you serve the God of second chances. The Bible gives many stories of people who, like me, needed a second chance and God gave it to them. We’ll take a look at these people who blew it badly. I believe it will teach us anew never to underestimate the power of the God we serve, never underestimate what he is able to do with any mess we make, and never to give up on anyone else. No one is beyond the power of God's grace. What is difficult for our minds to grasp is God chooses to use the lowly and weak things of this world, and when we are weak, then we are strong. Our world system teaches us survival of the fittest—only the strongest and the best make it to the top, only the most qualified can truly succeed. But God’s system is just the opposite. When we give up on ourselves and admit we’ve blown it, we are then in a position to allow God to move in and do something wonderful with our lives.
Pastor Caleb Cole continues the Way of Decrease series with a message titled “Comparison: The Way of Cain or Abel!” Teaching from Genesis 4, this sermon explores how comparison, jealousy, and envy begin in the heart and can ultimately separate us from God's presence. By contrasting the way of Cain with the way of Abel, Pastor Caleb challenges us to choose surrender, obedience, and sacrifice so we can experience deeper joy and greater connection with God. Jeff Korzenik, the chief economist at a major US bank, explains how predicting a labor shortage in the US led him to discover the growing movement around "second chance" hiring of people with criminal records. His passion for this work led him to write "Untapped Talent," a book that explains to companies the benefits of this type of hiring and offers a blueprint of how best to do it. Jeff describes how second chance hiring can transform lives and communities. Chapters: 00:00 Introduction to Jeff Korzenik's Work This chapter introduces Jeff Korzenik, Chief Economist and author of Untapped Talent, highlighting his unique background as a bank executive focused on hiring people with criminal records. 03:14 From Economics to Second Chances Jeff Korzenik explains how his work on second-chance hiring evolved from his economic research into labor force challenges, initially focusing on the opioid epidemic. 05:51 The Staggering Numbers of Incarceration Jeff outlines the immense scale of incarceration and criminal records in the United States, emphasizing how the U.S. is an outlier globally. 09:05 Creating Hope in Prison Jeff discusses the inherent unfairness of a system where a prison sentence can become a life sentence due to employment discrimination. He shares how his book, 'Untapped Talent,' is distributed to incarcerated individuals to instill hope and remind them that they are a valuable resource, not a burden, through the generous support of others. 14:15 Employer Barriers and Solutions Jeff addresses the common objections employers have to hiring individuals with criminal records: safety/liability, employee quality, and reputation risk. He explains that these concerns are valid but manageable through intelligent, business-based decisions, advocating for transparent and supportive hiring practices. 17:55 The Loyalty of Second Chance Hires Jeff highlights that successful second-chance hiring relies on traditional hiring models, adapted to understand and support candidates with criminal records. 23:23 Virtuous Cycle of Success Jeff explains the 'snowballing effect' of success in second-chance hiring, where companies known for fair chance employment receive high-quality referrals and build strong community relationships. 26:08 Empathy and Boundaries in Hiring Jeff advocates for people to visit prisons to humanize the incarcerated and understand their experiences. 33:28 Challenges Post-Release and 'Ban the Box' Jeff illustrates the immense hurdles individuals face immediately after release from prison, from securing basic necessities to navigating a changed world with minimal support. He explains why state-mandated 'ban the box' policies have often been ineffective, and instead suggests that voluntary removal of the box by truly committed employers sends a powerful, positive signal to job seekers. 39:17 Impact on Fellow Employees and Society Jeff discusses how to integrate second-chance hires into a company's workforce, emphasizing that transparency and context are key to addressing potential employee concerns. 43:43 Untapped Potential and Future Optimism Jeff expresses immense optimism about the future of second-chance hiring, despite being in the very early stages of leveraging this vast talent pool. 49:10 Resources and Multi-Generational Impact Jeff provides resources for companies interested in second-chance hiring, including the Second Chance Business Coalition and SHRM's 'Getting Talent Back to Work' certification. He underscores the profound multi-generational benefits of fair chance employment, emphasizing its role in breaking cycles of incarceration and fostering a virtuous cycle of community safety and economic prosperity.

Losing your way can sometimes be the beginning of finding who you really are. Robert Pallante's life revolved around hockey from a young age. Growing up in the Toronto area, he played at the highest levels, earned a college scholarship, and chased the dream so many young athletes believe defines them. But when his hockey journey didn't unfold the way he expected, Rob was left struggling with identity, confidence, and unanswered questions that followed him long after he left the game. Years later, a near-fatal motorcycle accident forced Robert into stillness, reflection, and a complete reset. Lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life, he realized he was under no obligation to remain the person he had been. This episode explores what it means to separate who you are from what you do, how pain can become perspective, and why rebuilding your identity is possible at any stage of life. Guest Bio Robert Pallante grew up in Mississauga, Ontario, where hockey shaped much of his early life. Drafted into the OHL and later earning a scholarship to Michigan Tech, Robert pursued the sport at a high level before continuing into junior and professional camps. After leaving hockey, he spent over two decades building a successful career in sales, business development, and corporate leadership. In 2015, Robert survived a near-death motorcycle accident that led to eight surgeries, 40 days in the hospital, and years of rehabilitation. That experience became a turning point, reshaping his priorities and purpose. Today, Robert works with young athletes to help them build an invincible mindset, develop strong values, and prepare for life both during and after sports. He is a single father to two children, Luca and Ava. Texts: Jonah 1:1–4; Jonah 1:17; Jonah 2:1–2, 9–10Everybody wants a second chance. Not the small kind—the real kind. The kind that comes after mistakes, regret, or seasons where we know we've drifted. In Week 1 of Jonah: The God of Second Chances, Pastor Kevin opens one of the most familiar stories in the Bible and reveals that it's not primarily about a fish—it's about a God who relentlessly pursues people who run.Jonah runs. God pursues. God rescues. And the deep becomes a prayer room. This message explores how running from God never leads to freedom, how God's discipline can actually be mercy, and how the deepest moments of our lives can become places where we encounter God again.Jonah's story ultimately points to Jesus—the greater rescue—who entered the depths for us so that second chances could become a reality.Broad River Church | Norwalk, CT Join us Sundays: 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM (English) | 12:45 PM (Español) Learn more or take your next step: https://broadriver.church/nextsteps Follow us on Instagram: @iambroadriverchurch

I didn't expect the day's biggest story to land before the show even got rolling, but the first major cabinet domino of the Trump administration has finally fallen. Kristi Noem is out as Secretary of Homeland Security. The immediate cause appears to be a congressional hearing exchange that went sideways. During testimony before Sen. John Kennedy, Noem said that a $200 million ad campaign — one that prominently featured her — had been approved by the president. The White House later said it had not, and it's that contradiction that seems to have been the final straw for Trump. It's no secret that the ground had been shifting under Noem for a while. Critical press coverage had been building, particularly around operational issues inside DHS. Some of it focused on headline controversies, but much of it involved the less glamorous details of running a department: delayed contracts, paperwork sitting unsigned, and basic administrative work that insiders say was slipping through the cracks.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Complicating matters was the presence of Corey Lewandowski, who had developed a reputation inside the department as a, let's say, aggressive and polarizing figure. According to people around Washington, he made enemies across the bureaucracy, and those tensions ultimately became inseparable from Noem's own standing within the administration.Trump's apparent choice to replace her is Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, a former MMA fighter who has built a reputation in Washington as a loyal Trump ally and a frequent presence on television. In some ways, Mullin is a pragmatic pick. Replacing a cabinet secretary this late in a term can be politically tricky because any nominee must survive Senate confirmation. A sitting senator already has relationships and credibility inside the chamber, making it easier for colleagues to vote yes even if the appointment is politically uncomfortable. That dynamic worked to the administration's advantage when Marco Rubio moved into a cabinet role earlier in the term, and it could play out similarly here. Senators are often more willing to confirm someone they know than an unfamiliar nominee from outside Washington.Noem's departure also lands in the middle of a broader policy fight. DHS remains partially shut down due to a standoff between Democrats and the administration over immigration enforcement policies. From my perspective, this moment could provide Democrats with a face-saving off-ramp. With Noem gone, they could claim a political victory and move toward reopening the department without appearing to capitulate entirely on their policy demands. The alternative — maintaining a shutdown while security risks mount — carries its own political dangers. When federal security agencies operate without full funding, the political blame game gets complicated very quickly if something goes wrong.Fallout from the Texas PrimariesMeanwhile, the ripple effects from the Texas primary elections are already shaping the next phase of the campaign cycle. Sen. John Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton are heading toward a runoff, and President Trump has signaled he may intervene with an endorsement.Paxton has already indicated he won't automatically step aside even if Trump backs Cornyn, raising the possibility that the party's internal fight could stretch out for weeks. Democrats, for their part, clearly prefer facing Paxton in the general election given his long history of scandals and investigations.Another runoff will take place in Texas's 23rd congressional district, where Tony Gonzalez is facing intense pressure after admitting he had an affair with a staffer. The admission carries serious implications. Relationships between members of Congress and staff can trigger ethics violations, and Gonzalez now faces an ongoing investigation. Leadership within the Republican caucus is reportedly signaling that even if he wins the runoff, he could still face consequences in Washington. In other words, his political future may already be decided regardless of how the voters rule.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:01:01 - Kristi Noem00:08:07 - Markwayne Mullin00:11:19 - Interview with Jennifer Doleac00:33:22 - Update00:33:54 - Cornyn/Paxton00:36:47 - Tony Gonzales00:39:36 - Mullin's Senate Replacement00:41:36 - Interview with Jennifer Doleac, con't01:00:14 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Joseph M Lenard, author of the book The Book of Kennedy. Joseph Martin Lenard is a former IT (Information Technology) guy now turned American author, blogger, cancer survivor, podcaster, political activist, speaker, social media influencer, spokesperson / affiliate for American Hartford Gold IRA group, and vlogger known for writing and publishing the #1 Amazon bestseller historical fiction thriller Terror Strikes: Coming Soon to a City Near You. He also released in December 2022 a book called How To Write A Book And Get It Published: Hints, Tips & Techniques, to help writers fulfil their dream of becoming an internationally published author, and his third Internationally available fare dropped August 2023 titled ChristiTutionalist TM Politics as a companion (written piece) to his ChristiTutionalist TM Politics podcast of same name began airing in June 2023. In 2025 release of 6th International book "The Book Of Kennedy" (his first available in Hard-Cover, as well as Audio-Book, eBook, Softcopy) hit in August of 2025. In my book review, I stated The Book of Kennedy is YA novelette. The book follows Kennedy, a young woman who is transitioning from one relationship to another. Written without any dialogue, the reader is put into Kennedy's head as she contemplates relationships, life, faith, hope, and kindness. Joseph uses scriptures, song lyrics, and movie/book quotes to help the reader understand Kennedy's journey forward as she reflects on her past relationship and the new one. Joseph states upfront that he is not trying to be Dickens, and that he uses today's way of speaking to write. Although I understand his reasoning, I often found it difficult to read, wanting to stop and correct the errors along the way or change fragments into full sentences. Nonetheless, the lessons learned are very valuable. Plus, he gives a long list of additional resources for those who want to learn more about the philosophy being mulled in Kennedy's head. EP 137: Reborn at 51: Jamie Mahaffey's Second Chance at Life Episode Summary What does it mean to be reborn at 51? In this powerful episode of This Thing Called Life, heart transplant recipient Jamie Mahaffey shares his extraordinary journey of survival, resilience, and purpose. After undergoing a heart transplant, the former athlete, coach, and Athletic Director at North College Hill City Schools discovered a renewed calling to lead with greater intention. Becoming a John Maxwell Coach inspired him to launch his own company focused on helping others achieve their goals and elevate their lives. Jamie's story is a masterclass in perseverance, perspective, and personal leadership—proof that you don't match the energy around you… You set the standard. Episode Highlights Host Andi Johnson welcomes Jamie Mahaffey and invites him to share the health crisis that changed everything. On November 11, Jamie became lightheaded at work and was rushed to UC Hospital, where doctors discovered a serious infection in his LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device). Facing two life-altering options—replace the LVAD or undergo a heart transplant at Vanderbilt University—Jamie chose the transplant after prayer, reflection, and encouragement from trusted advisors. While driving to Vanderbilt on January 17, Jamie was shocked by his defibrillator 42 times, a harrowing moment that underscored the urgency of his condition. Within days of being upgraded to Status Level One on the transplant list, a donor heart became available. Surgery was scheduled for January 21. Jamie remained in a coma until January 24. When he awoke, he was reunited with his wife Robin and their children in an emotional and life-defining moment. Robin's meticulous advocacy and unwavering presence became a critical part of Jamie's survival and recovery. Jamie reflects on the deep gratitude he feels for his donor—and the profound awareness that his second chance came through another family's loss. A letter from the donor's mother became a pivotal moment, inspiring Jamie to move forward boldly in launching his leadership company. Post-transplant recovery included the unexpected amputation of his leg—an emotional and physical challenge Jamie describes as even harder than the transplant itself. Through faith, family support, and resilience, Jamie developed a renewed vision for his life centered on impact and purpose. He shares his journey to becoming a certified John Maxwell Coach and his vision of speaking, writing, and helping others live beyond their potential. Jamie emphasizes living with integrity, leading intentionally, and choosing purpose over comfort. Key Takeaways Adversity Clarifies Purpose Life-threatening challenges often strip away distractions and reveal what truly matters. Jamie's second chance forced him to reevaluate his priorities and commit fully to purposeful leadership. Leadership Starts With Personal Responsibility You don't match the energy around you—you set the standard. Jamie's story demonstrates that leadership is not about position, but about the example you choose to live daily. Gratitude Changes Everything Understanding that his new heart came at a great cost reshaped Jamie's perspective. Gratitude became fuel for impact, reminding him to live in a way that honors both the gift and the giver. Tweetable Quotes “So I had two weeks of tests. Everything you can imagine. You know dentists, too. That's another thing, if you don't take care of your teeth, that's an affection of your heart. So those appointments are important, something that I didn't do regularly.” Jamie Mahaffey “My defibrillator shocked me 42 times. And so the cardiologist came down, and he was like, Okay, we have to admit him. And so that's when I stayed there. And on January 18, the doctor came in that morning, and he said, You go from level three to level one a. Level one is where you need a transplant. “ Jamie Mahaffey “I was in a coma for five days because my heart wasn't initiating with my body.” Jamie Mahaffey “God was giving me another opportunity to listen to him. It was a time. I mean, I was just always busy. I was a head coach and won state titles and played college ball and played overseas, and I was always moving, but I was always looking after other people as a man. We are fathers, and we take care of our house, and I was an ad, and I was a coach, I was a mentor, so I'm looking after everybody else but myself. And it was a time he was saying, it's your turn.” Jamie Mahaffey “I know there's a purpose for me to just keep having people to not live off their potential, but pursue their destiny. And so that's why I teach a lot of kids. A lot of people are still in life, living off potential but not pursuing their destiny. “ Jamie Mahaffey “Maxwell certification was a stepping stone to a vision. I always heard about myself, about being a motivational speaker, about writing books, about having normal eyesight in life.” Jamie Mahaffey Resources: Donatelifeky.org https://getoffthelist.org/ https://www.networkforhope.org/ https://www.networkforhope.org/about-us/ https://www.networkforhope.org/stories-of-hope/ https://www.facebook.com/NetworkForHopeOPO https://www.youtube.com/@NetworkforHope. https://aopo.org/ RegisterMe.org/NetworkforHope
We are live in New York City with reality television royalty — Renee Graziano — and from the first minute, it's iconic chaos, deep vulnerability, and explosive truth. The episode opens with jokes about the FBI “waiting outside” as Renee reflects on her groundbreaking run on Mob Wives, the show that redefined reality TV. She shares what it meant to grow up the daughter of Anthony Graziano, a respected consigliare, clarifying that “mob privilege” wasn't white privilege — it was loyalty, respect, and family code. Fashion takes center stage as Renee reminisces about mink coats, ostrich feathers, and unapologetic mob glam — proving Mob Wives delivered couture long before Housewives. Pol is living for the fur, diamonds, and drama. Author, Erotica & Unfiltered Talk Renee dives into her erotic novel Playing with Fire, inspired by love, betrayal, and danger. What follows is a surprisingly philosophical (and hilarious) conversation about intimacy, celibacy, and why Renee has been celibate since April 2023 after discovering a shocking betrayal. The honesty is raw, funny, and deeply human. Trauma, Betrayal & Survival The mood shifts as Renee opens up about surviving domestic violence, sexual assault, and devastating betrayal — including her ex-husband cooperating with the government, leading to unimaginable family consequences. Her story of discovering a wired watch gifted by her ex leaves the room stunned. She also shares her sobriety journey, including surviving a fentanyl overdose that left her clinically dead with cracked ribs. Her perspective is powerful: recovery isn't just about substances — it's about healing from trauma, shame, and self-destruction. Mob Wives Legacy & Reboot Rumors Renee confirms rumblings of a potential Mob Wives reboot and teases throwing her son a televised wedding — with Pol designing the gown. The energy is playful but hopeful. The conversation turns heartfelt as they honor the late Angela Raiola. Renee remembers Big Ang's generosity, humor, and “ginormous” heart, imagining her running a nightclub in heaven with her father. Entrepreneurial Glow-Up Renee introduces her mob-inspired skincare line, BAD (Beautiful and Dangerous) Body Butter, with cheeky names like Fig-get About It, Coco Nostra, Made Melon, Biscotti Boss, and Vanilla Vendetta — tongue-in-cheek branding rooted in heritage and humor. The Coffee Reading – Rebirth Revealed Pol's Armenian coffee reading becomes the emotional climax. He describes Renee as deeply guarded, emotionally triple-locked — then sees an opening at the top of the cup: rebirth. Renee reveals her name means “reborn” and “spiritually renewed,” and her last name means “grace.” The synchronicity leaves everyone speechless. The reading affirms a recent epiphany sparked by news of her ex-husband's release and a powerful spiritual conversation with her late father. The message is clear: transformation is happening now. Renee leaves feeling “naked” in the best way — spiritually exposed but empowered. It's laughter, mob lore, candor, survival, hustle, and divine rebirth in one unforgettable episode. While she's gone, a woman named Kim shows up. She's drawn to his telescope. They start talking and bond over their love of space. Right before the eclipse happens, her boyfriend Blake calls her. He's finally arrived, so she scurries off to meet up with him. 7 years later, Kim is now working for a news station. The person who was gonna go back to Carbondale to cover the eclipse bails so she volunteers to take on the case. Who knows, maybe she'll bump into the hunk from 7 years ago. And wouldn't you know it, they're both actually there. But somehow they keep missing each other. At a masquerade party, they get to talking but obviously they're rocking masks. Her first news spot is rocky but goes kind of viral. She ends up getting the invite for her eclipse spot to go national! She's freaking out! They end up going multiple days without realizing they're both there. It's the day of the big eclipse and they were able to secure this GIANT scientist to come and be interviewed. When he ends up getting lost, they go and snag Malcolm. Naturally, they don't chat at all until they come face to face live on air. The chemistry is NUTS!
