Have you ever fantasized about being ‘forced' to have sex? If so, you're not alone. Fantasies about being taken against one's will (also known as 'ravishment fantasies' and 'consensual non-consent fantasies') are actually quite common. But just how many people report having had them? And why? That's what we're going to be exploring in today's episode. I'll be sharing five examples of forced sex fantasies that have emerged in my research to illustrate what these fantasies tend to look like, and also to explore the psychology behind them.  To help me put this show together, Rose Caraway returns to narrate the actual fantasies. Rose is a writer, editor, and publisher who runs the Kiss Me Quick's Erotica Podcast. She also served as the narrator for Dr. David Ley's amazing book, Insatiable Wives, which was the subject of Episode 70 of this program. The fantasies we dive into in this show come from my book Tell Me What You Want, and they include: Ravished By My Lover Kidnapped and Forced to Have Sex Animalistic Sex With an Alpha Male Banged By the Bachelorettes Taken By a Warrior Princess I walk you through the main themes behind each of these fantasies and the common threads that unite them, while also considering similarities and differences in how these fantasy scenarios play out for men and women. I also discuss who is most likely to have fantasies of this nature and why. This is a fascinating episode. Be sure to check it out! As someone who studies the science of sexual fantasies, every time I think I've heard it all, I discover something new. Human beings are endlessly inventive and flexible when it comes to their sexuality, which means that our fantasies are sometimes truly fantastical and may reflect things that wouldn't even be physically possible in reality. While these fantasies may strike many people as "strange" or "weird," however, a deeper analysis of them reveals that they aren't so unusual after all. They're actually just creative variations on the things that turn most of us on. In this episode, we're going to explore four uncommon sexual fantasies I've encountered over the course of my research and consider the psychology behind them. To help me put this show together, I invited Rose Caraway to narrate the actual fantasies that my participants provided. Rose is a writer, editor, and publisher who runs the Kiss Me Quick's Erotica Podcast. She also served as the narrator for Dr. David Ley's fantastic book, Insatiable Wives, which was the subject of Episode 70 of this program. The fantasies we dive into in this show come from my book Tell Me What You Want, and they include: The Human Cow (or HuCow) The Human Doll Getting Eaten Alive (Vorarephilia) Taken By Tentacles I walk you through the main themes behind each of these fantasies and the common threads that run through all of them. I also discuss who tends to have more of these fantastical fantasies and why. This is a truly fascinating episode you're not going to want to miss. Check it out! On this episode of #mensexpleasure, I chat with Dr. David J. Ley. David is a world-renowned clinical psychologist, known for bringing scientifically-accurate and clinically sound information to discussions about modern sexuality. He serves on the board of the Sexual Health Alliance as an expert advisor and is an internationally-recognized expert on issues related to sexuality, pornography and mental health. He has appeared on television with Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric, Dr. Phil and others. He has been interviewed in publications ranging from the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times and the London Telegraph, to Playboy and Hustler magazines. Dr. Ley has published extensively in both the academic and “pop” realms of literature. His latest book, Ethical Porn for Dicks, A Man's Guide to Responsible Viewing Pleasure has endorsements from Dan Savage and Pornhub.com and is a humorous and provocative handbook for men who want to think more comprehensively about porn. In 2018, he spoke with Esther Perel, at her Sessions Live conference exploring The Masculinity Paradox. His talk, seen here, offers a concise overview of his view on masculinity and sexual integrity. The Myth of Sex Addiction (2012) and Insatiable Wives (2009) were revolutionary explorations of sexual issues which blended a powerful client-centered narrative with a rich understanding of psychology, biology and sociology. Dr. Ley is starting a new project, exploring the stories behind people who engage in professional sexual misconduct. Why do teachers, lawyers, doctors, therapists and police cross sexual lines? He is interested in conducting confidential, anonymous interviews with people who have insight into these experiences. The two of us talk about the importance of prioritizing sexuality in the medical community. We also discuss the issues of porn, including definitions, usage, and masturbatory habits. Key points: David introduces himself Common sense vs Research Challenging biases What is “healthy” sexuality? The priority of sexuality What is porn? Cuckolding refers to a sexual practice in which someone finds it arousing to watch their partner have sex with another person. I first learned about cuckolding nearly a decade ago and, in the years since, its popularity has exploded. Google searches for it are on the rise, it's increasing mentioned and depicted in the popular media, and it regularly emerges among the top porn searches in the world year in and year out. There's even a new annual tradition called #CuckWeek, aimed at celebrating the cuckold lifestyle. So why are so many people into cuckolding? For insight, I spoke with Dr. David Ley and Rose Caraway. David Ley is a clinical psychologist, sex therapist, and author of the book Insatiable Wives: Women Who Stray and the Men Who Love Them, which was just released on audiobook. Rose narrated the audiobook for Insatiable Wives and is host of Kiss Me Quick's Erotica Podcast. Some of the topics we explore in this show include: How cuckolding can be sexually empowering for women. The diverse motivations behind why men want to watch their partners have sex with other people (there isn't just one reason!). How common cuckolding fantasies are, and who's most likely to have them. How cuckolding is distinct from cheating. How cuckolding relationships tend to work out. What people who are thinking about exploring cuckolding need to know. How to bring sex to life as an audiobook narrator. For more on cuckolding, be sure to check out the new audiobook for Insatiable Wives! This podcast was made on Zencastr. Natasha Helfer Parker interviews Dr. David Ley, author of The Myth of Sex Addiction, regarding the problems with the sex addiction treatment model and the conversations we should be having instead. He states that not only is this type of modality erroneous, but dangerous. They cover such issues as: How do shifting attitudes about sexuality force us to renegotiate how we see and define healthy sexuality? Why is sexual diversity easily pathologized? Why is it that there is not a single published study that sex addiction treatment makes a difference and yet treatment centers are growing in number at an alarming rate? Why are we abandoning people within a moral or social crisis, by focusing on things like a supposed pornography public health crisis? Are we aware that gay and bi men are three times as likely to be called “sex addicts?” Are we aware that the American Psychiatric Association has rejected the language of “sex addiction” for 40 years? Are we talking about the importance of sex education and regular dialogue? How can we help people explore morality in their sexuality as adults? How do we incorporate religious beliefs in ways that allow for normative sexuality? Dr. David Ley is a clinical psychologist in practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Ole Miss, and his Master's and Doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the University of New Mexico. Dr. Ley is the Executive Director of New Mexico Solutions, a large outpatient mental health and substance abuse program in Albuquerque, NM. Dr. Ley has been treating sexuality issues throughout his career. He first began treating perpetrators and victims of sexual abuse, but expanded his approach to include the fostering and promotion of healthy sexuality, and awareness of the wide range of normative sexual behaviors. Insatiable Wives: Women Who Stray and the Men Who Love Them is his first book and won a Silver Medal in the Foreword Magazine Book of the Year contest for 2009. Dr. Ley wrote Insatiable Wives following two years of interviews with couples around the country. His controversial second book, The Myth of Sex Addiction was released in March 2012. Cuckolding is a sexual practice in which someone is aroused by the idea of watching or listening while their partner has sex with another person—and it's a surprisingly popular sexual interest. In the survey of 4,175 Americans' sexual fantasies I conducted for my book Tell Me What You Want, I found that 52% of heterosexual men and 66% of gay and bisexual men had fantasized about this before. In addition, 26% of heterosexual women and 42% of lesbian and bisexual women reported having had this fantasy at least once. So why is cuckolding so popular? In this episode of the podcast, I spoke with sex therapist Dr. David Ley, who has literally written THE book on cuckolding, titled Insatiable Wives. He and I have also collaborated on a scientific study about cuckolding (co-authored with sex advice columnist Dan Savage), which was recently published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior. Dr. Ley is a clinical psychologist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he directs a large behavioral health and substance abuse outpatient program. He is also one of the media's go-to experts on all things sex. We cover a lot of ground in this episode, including: What does a typical cuckolding scenario look like? What's the difference between cuckolding and “hotwifing?” Why are so many people drawn to cuckolding in the first place? Why do some find this idea incredibly erotic, whereas others find it to be threatening? Why is there a political link to cuckolding—specifically, why do conservative men seem to fantasize about the idea more than their liberal counterparts? What has research revealed about cuckolding in same-sex relationships? Why is research on cuckolding so controversial? What's the future of cuckolding, especially as norms surrounding relationships and marriage continue to evolve? To learn more about Dr. Ley's work and writings, check out his website here. *** Want to learn more about Sex and Psychology? Dr Bisbey called in sick, so we republished this   Hi everyone! Welcome to the A to Z of Sex. I'm Dr Lori Beth and I am your host.  We are working our way through the erotic alphabet one letter at a time.  Just a reminder this podcast deals with adult content, so if you don't have total privacy, you might want to put on your headphones. Today the letter is P and P is for Porn.  Porn is a divisive topic these days. There has been a lot of panic around what young people are accessing on the internet and whether they are getting most of their sex education from porn. There has also been a lot of controversy around the idea of sex and porn ‘addictions'. In some areas pornography has been demonised to the point that there is significant censorship legislation to control what adults can see and possess with very stiff penalties. Dr. David Ley is a clinical psychologist in practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Ole Miss, and his Master's and Doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the University of New Mexico. Dr. Ley is licensed in New Mexico and North Carolina, and has provided clinical and consultative services in numerous other states. He is the Executive Director of New Mexico Solutions, a large outpatient mental health and substance abuse program in Albuquerque, NM. Dr. Ley has been treating sexuality issues throughout his career. He first began treating perpetrators and victims of sexual abuse, but expanded his approach to include the fostering and promotion of healthy sexuality, and awareness of the wide range of normative sexual behaviors. Insatiable Wives is his first book and won a Silver Medal in the Foreword Magazine Book of the Year contest for 2009. Dr. Ley wrote Insatiable Wives following two years of interviews with couples around the country. His controversial second book, The Myth of Sex Addiction was released in March 2012, challenging the concept of sexual addiction and exploring a different model of male sexuality. The Myth of Sex Addiction triggered a firestorm of debate, allowing people to finally challenge the media hype of this pseudo-disorder. His new book Ethical Porn for Dicks, A Man's Guide to Responsible Viewing Pleasure was released to significant expectation and positive reviews in November 2016.) We started our conversation by speaking about whether there is really such a thing as sex and porn addiction. Dr Ley spoke about the damage that labelling problems around sex and pornography as addiction as it adds to shaming the person.  He was clear that when pornography is a problem it is usually a symptom rather than the cause. He spoke of research demonstrating that men who are stressed and depressed are more likely to use pornography long term and that they appear to be using the pornography as a means of managing negative emotions. Women tend to get more support when expressing negative emotions and are not shamed because they have negative emotions so this is seen less in women. Dr Ley spoke about research demonstrating that long term couples who watch pornography together have better sexual relationships, couples who watch pornography separately but tell each other about it have better relationships and women who watch pornography have better relationships.  The only group where pornography is seen to be a problem is when men watch pornography and don't tell their partners about it and their partners don't watch and don't like pornography. Dr Ley emphasised sexual integrity in a person and his relationships.  He spoke of the need for education around sexuality so that people could learn to integrate their needs and desires and then education in communication so that they could learn to communicate with their partners about sexuality and desire.  We spoke of the lack of education helping young people to learn to talk about sex with anyone, let alone with partners and the fact that there so many young people are not being taught...

Sex Addiction isn't real. Sex is real. Porn is real. Some other words that are real include diversity, fetus, vulnerable, science-based, evidence-based, entitlement, and transgender. Yes, transgendered people are real. This week it seems the Trump administration decided that these seven words don’t exist and should not be used by the CDC. Whether or not this ban is real, political leaders have been doing this as long as we have had scientific research. Misinformation about reality, or the censoring of reality, can be harmful. Myths about sex can make it difficult for people to feel normal in their sexuality. If they are told that their biological urges are sinful or weird, they can feel a split between sex and themselves. They can see sex as something outside the normal human experience or even outside of their own control. If we as humans label something as uncontrollable, then we may fail to even try to have control over it. Sex addiction is not a real addiction listed in the most recent edition of the DSM, the bible of mental health diagnosis. These individual’s struggles are a failure of logic brought on by shameful views of their own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. People who self-label as sex addicts have the same amount of sex as people who do not. People who claim to have this addiction feel the need to hold themselves to a standard beyond the normal human condition. They feel amorous, they feel love, they feel horny, and yet they deny these feelings and push them down to hide and deny their own sexuality. They not only feel uncomfortable just talking about sex in a social setting, but can sometimes feel uncomfortable even discussing these topics with their sexual partners. They can literally be having sex with their partner and feel super uncomfortable just discussing birth control and condom usage. Our guest today is clinical psychologist Dr. David J. Ley, Ph.D. and the author of the books Ethical Porn for Dicks: A Man’s Guide to Responsible Viewing Pleasure, The Myth of Sex Addiction and Insatiable Wives.
