This epsiode includes content related to reproductive organs and sexual health and may not be suitable for all listeners. In this podcast, we welcome Dr. Jose Flores, an expert in sexual and reproductive medicine at New York's Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. We dive deep into the often challenging but crucial topic of male sexuality, particularly in the context of cancer treatment and graft versus host disease (GVHD).Dr. Flores begins by distinguishing between sexual dysfunction and erectile dysfunction (ED). He emphasizes that sexual dysfunction encompasses various issues beyond just achieving erections, such as ejaculation problems, orgasm issues, decreased sex drive, and changes in penile shape. This broader understanding is essential when discussing sexual health with patients. The prevalence of ED after cancer treatment is notably high, with up to 60-70% of men experiencing it post-chemotherapy, and even higher rates following pelvic surgery, specifically. Low testosterone levels also contribute significantly to sexual dysfunction, particularly after treatments targeting the pelvic area.A critical aspect of addressing ED is breaking the wall of silence around it. Dr. Flores stresses the importance of open communication between patients and healthcare providers. Initiating conversations about sexual health can lead to better assessments and treatments. He outlines the initial steps in diagnosing ED, including patient questionnaires and lab tests, and underscores the need for healthcare providers to proactively ask patients about their sexual health. The discussion then shifts to the impact of GVHD on sexual function. Dr. Flores notes that about 70% of men post-bone marrow or stem cell transplant suffer from low testosterone and ED. Unfortunately, without intervention, these issues do not typically resolve on their own. Patients must seek help to explore treatment options.Dr. Flores explains the ED treatment model, which follows a stepwise approach. The first step includes lifestyle modifications and the use of PDE-5 inhibitors like Viagra and Cialis. If these are ineffective, injection therapy is the next step, followed by mechanical aids like penile pumps and, as a last resort, penile implants.Myths and realities of PDE-5 inhibitors are addressed, clarifying that these medications require proper usage, including an empty stomach for Viagra and sufficient time for absorption for Cialis, along with sexual stimulation to be effective. Proper education on these aspects can significantly enhance their effectiveness.Low testosterone, particularly after cancer treatment, is another major topic. Dr. Flores discusses the complexities of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), including potential risks like polycythemia, effects on fertility, and the necessity of screening for conditions like sleep apnea and prostate cancer before starting treatment. He advises patients to preserve fertility before undergoing cancer treatments and outlines options for those with compromised fertility post-treatment.The conversation concludes with Dr. Flores urging patients to be proactive about their sexual and reproductive health. He highlights the importance of seeking specialized care and the positive impact it can have on overall quality of life. Throughout the discussion, Dr. Flores's compassionate approach underscores the importance of addressing these sensitive issues openly and effectively.Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: https://www.mskcc.orgInternational Index of Erectile Dysfunction: https://www.uptodate.comTestosterone Replacement Therapy Information: https://www.urologyhealth.orgThis season is made possible thanks to donations from Syndax and Incyte.https://syndax.com/https://incyte.com/ Follow the nbmtLINK on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/nbmtlink/

In this episode of the 'Love Sex and Leadership' podcast, Aaron engages in a profound conversation with Pele, a mentor and a multifaceted spiritual leader. The discussion revolves around Pele's transformative journey from an orthodox Jewish upbringing to becoming a proponent of conscious sexuality and sacred Eros. They delve into how true leadership involves embracing vulnerability, acknowledging personal shadows, and fostering authenticity within communities. Pele emphasizes the importance of aligning love, freedom, and empowerment as pillars of epic love leadership. The conversation also explores how cultural and religious constraints on sexuality stem from a fear of autonomous, erotic power. In addition, they discuss the challenges faced by leaders in being projected upon and the critical role of transparency and authenticity in evolving as genuine leaders. Throughout, Pele draws on Kabbalistic teachings and personal experiences to advocate for a holistic integration of eroticism in leadership, highlighting upcoming transformational events aimed at fostering deeper soul initiation and leadership development.

On our podcast, we've talked a lot about sexuality related to people who identify as female, but today we are focusing on those who identify as male. Societal gender roles not only impact females, but everyone else. Reece Malone and Kara discuss the way that the buzz phrase “toxic masculinity” affects those who identify as male and the way their female partners perpetuate this culture. Reece discusses topics brought into this sex therapy practice and how many grown men don't know how to access their emotions as they have been told to shut them off for so long. This messaging affects the way they show up in relationships and their sexual lives. Listen to the way Kara and Reece unpack these narratives together.  Reece Malone is a sexologist, sex therapist and sexuality educator. Sex and Psychology Podcast

One of the most popular tropes that you're bound to encounter in writings about human sexuality is that men are simple, while women are complex. There's a pervasive belief out there that sex is just easy for men in general because they're always in the mood and sex is mostly a physical (not emotional) thing for them. The reality of male sexuality, however, is far more complicated, and we're not doing anyone any favors by oversimplifying it. So in today's show, we're going to dive into common myths about male sexuality. I am joined once again by Cam Fraser, who is a Certified Professional Sex Coach, Certified Sexologist, Registered Counselor, and Registered Tantric Yoga Teacher. As a coach, he helps men go beyond surface-level sex and into full-bodied, self-expressed, pleasure-oriented sexual experiences free of anxiety or shame. Some of the topics we explore include: Why is the idea of male sexuality as "simple" a myth? How do beauty standards affect men, and what are the implications of this for sex, dating, and relationships? What do men who are anxious about their penis size need to know? Are men always supposed to be turned on and ready for sex? To what degree is sex emotional vs. physical for men? You can visit Cam's website to learn more about his work. Got a sex question? There's a growing narrative out there in the popular media and on social media that “men are trash” and that they need to “do better.” The response of some men has been to push back, and this has led to the rise of the "manosphere," an online network of men's rights activists pushing back against feminism. Tensions are quickly rising, so let's talk about it. In today's show we're going to explore how the issues facing men have changed, what it means to be a "better man," and more. One of the highlights of the episode is the exploration of Dr. Fitz's groundbreaking book published this week, "The Better Man: A Guide to Consent, Stronger Relationships, and Hotter Sex." Traci feels so strongly about the potential of this book to radically alter sex from a pressure tug-of-war between partners to something magical. Dr. Fitz underscores the importance of men reconnecting with their tender hearts and nurturing authentic relationships. He argues that this is key to unlocking their true power and satisfaction. It isn't essential to being a good lover, because that trans man over there can be a good lover too.” (Dr. Fitz) “...if we don't attend to the flowing water of sexuality, it's still flowing. And if we don't attend to where it's going, it will continue filling up whatever reservoir we've bottled it up into until it will overflow our boundaries and it will feel out of control for us.” (Dr. Fitz) Find | Sidewalk Talk  At sidewalk-talk.org On Instagram: @sidewalktalkorg On Twitter: @sidewalktalkorg   Find | Traci Ruble At Traciruble.com On Instagram: @TraciRubleMFT On Twitter: @TraciRubleMFT On Facebook: @TraciRubleMFT   Find | Dr. Eric Fitzmedrud At www.drericfitz.com On Instagram: @drericfitz On Facebook: @drericfitz On TikTok: @drericfitz On LinkedIn: @drericfitz On Twitter: @drericfitz
