The Doctor was dead, to begin with. Killed alongside his beloved Jo Grant in an explosion in the UNIT labs. But Time Lords are notoriously hard to kill. Because with UNIT under siege, the Brigadier is rescued by two familiar faces... the Doctor he first encountered, fighting the Yeti, and Jamie McCrimmon. With yet one more waiting in the wings. They are all pawns in a deadly game of chess played by a being more powerful than any they've ever encountered before. And when you battle Death himself... can anyone even win? Welcome to THE TARDIS CREW: a Doctor Who podcast. In our next Big Finish review, Ben Greenland reviews the second volume of the new Second Doctor Adventures, with Michael Troughton picking up his father's role as the Doctor. James Robert McCrimmon features the return of Frazer Hines' companion Jamie, as he reunites with the Second Doctor post-The War Games.SYNOPSISJames Robert McCrimmon faced countless horrors while travelling with the Doctor, but when the Time Lords returned the Highlander to his rightful place in history, almost all those memories were lost to him. Now the Doctor is back and needs his old friend by his side for more adventures - but this time they're missions set by the sinister Raven. From the streets of 18th-century Edinburgh to the deserted corridors of a medical facility in the far future, and a human colony where darkness reigns, Jamie must first confront the greatest trauma of all - his own memories.Jamie by Mark Wright (2 parts)Mysterious dreams of lives never lived haunt an ailing prisoner in Edinburgh Castle, in the year 1776. Meanwhile, the Doctor arrives on another reluctant mission for the Time Lords, with the enigmatic Raven observing his every move. How is the Doctor's erstwhile travelling companion, Jamie McCrimmon, connected with the terrifying deaths that plague the streets in the shadow of the castle? And will Jamie ever really know his true self again? The Green Man by Paul F Verhoeven (2 parts)Perched hundreds of miles above the forest canopy of Florestus Prime, The Grove rehabilitation centre promises to help the staggeringly rich of the galaxy cheat death. When a reunited Doctor and Jamie are despatched by Raven to investigate the disappearance of a Time Lord, they are greeted by Chief of Medicine, Overseer Fuller.Watching from his room at The Grove, an incapacitated Doctor helplessly observes the facility from afar. Who is the lone patient waving from across the courtyard? Why is Overseer Fuller doing rounds late at night when the Grove appears to have no other patients? And what precisely does Raven know about the 'Green Man'?The Shroud by Bob Ayres (2 parts)Arriving on the planet Ninevah, the Doctor and Jamie find a desperate human colony fighting the effects of a devastating super weapon - the Shroud. Nullifying all light, the Shroud has rendered the humans blind in the face of aggressive alien invaders dubbed ‘Squids', and it's only a matter of time before the colony falls. The Doctor and Jamie are caught between helping the humans fight back against the ‘Squids' and investigating their latest mission for the Time Lords - but as they haven't been told what that mission is, the pair are in the dark in more ways than one.Doctor Who: The Second Doctor Adventures: James Robert McCrimmon is available to purchase at the Big Finish site HERE.Host Ben GreenlandEditorBaz GreenlandExecutive ProducerTony BlackWe Made This on Twitter: @wmt_networkwemadethisnetwork.comThe TARDIS Crew on Twitter: @CrewTARDISTitle music: Science or Fiction (c) Blackout Memories via epidemicsound.comArtwork: Quill Greenland

This week, we're grabbing our passports and heading to Scotland to hang with THE HIGHLANDERS! This completely missing four-part story both marks an ending (of the purely historical Doctor Who stories, at least for some time) and a beginning (of the Jamie McCrimmon era). Does the utilizing of Patrick Troughton's physical comedy skills get neutered in the present due to the fact that we can't see it? Listen along and decide for yourself!

After the Battle of Cullouden, the Scottish Highlanders who fought for Bonnie Prince Charlie are desperately seeking safety as the English brutally butcher the "traitors." When the Doctor, Ben, and Polly meet up with Jamie McCrimmon and his "Laird," they soon find themselves attempting to escape the English redcoats trying to hang them or sell them into indentured servitude. One of the funniest of the historicals, the Second Doctor impersonates a German doctor (with a terrible accent) and a Granny while tricking would-be slave traders. Polly blackmails a soldier. Even Ben gets to play "Houdini." Note: I do give a bit of an overview of the history that led to the Battle of Cullouden. If you are already familiar, you can skip over to 28:22 where I hop into the serial itself.Obviously this historical overview is broad strokes; there are a lot of complicated situations that led up to the Jacobite uprisings--this is a simplistic overview.POLLY: What about Jamie? We can't leave him here.DOCTOR: True. His ship's sailed.POLLY: What will you do?JAMIE: Oh, I'll be all right. They won't catch me.BEN: Did you hear that! They'll catch us all if we don't move fast.POLLY: Doctor, can we take him with us?DOCTOR: If he teaches me to play the bagpipes.Upcoming:"The Underwater Menace"Episodes 1 & 4 are missing. Ben, having recently installed an art exhibit at Balmoral Castle, has been pondering the great impact that Scotland and the Scots have made on Doctor Who. David was surprised to learn that the Brigadier wasn't always Scottish and it was director Douglas Camfield that gave Col. Lethbridge his hyphenated surname Stewart. Jamie McCrimmon, Amy Pond, and three Doctors Who from Scotland, plus one showrunner, Scotland is ever-present in the TARDIS. Opening and closing music is from Terror of the Zygons, composed by Geoffrey Burgon. We recorded this episode on 2 April 2022.

Tread Perilously's month of Doctor Who adventures continues with the 1974 story, "The Ark in Space." When Harry hits the wrong switch on the TARDIS console, he, Sarah, and the Doctor end up on Nerva Beacon, a space station returning to Earth orbit after thousands of years. Its purpose: to repopulate the planet after it was scorched by solar flares. But the mission has been co-opted by the parasitic Wirrn, who have their own designs on the Earth. Can the Doctor convince the Nerva crew he is not a primitive? Will Harry learn his chauvinism has no place in the 20th or 50th Centuries? And will bubble wrap ever get such prominent use on Doctor Who again? Erik and Justin get lost in the bubble wrap of it all. Precarious special effects, RP accents, and solid acting make this one of the most Doctor Who episodes Justin has ever watched. He immediately takes a dislike to Harry, who is ill-served in this Robert Holmes script. Jamie McCrimmon is fondly remembered for his more liberated views on women's roles in time travel. For some reason, Erik thinks he can attempt a Tom Baker accident. The pair try to remember the term "transmat" and, for once, the corridors get high praise.

Tread Perilously celebrates its anniversary month with five weeks of Doctor Who! This week: "The Two Doctors." When the Second Doctor is seemingly killed during a time experiment, the Sixth Doctor and Peri track down Jamie McCrimmon on a deserted space station. The path leads them to Seville, where hostile aliens have allied with the Sontarans to learn the secrets of unlimited time travel. Will the Sixth Doctor, Peri, and Jamie arrive to save the Second Doctor in time or will the earlier Doctor become a food-obsessed Androgum? Justin tries to imagine a "Four Doctors" with Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, and two modern Doctors. Erik recalls the first time he saw "The Two Doctors." Justin tries to determine if the Sixth Doctor and Peri are the least-regarded Doctor/companion pairing. He also takes another shot at the Fifth Doctor. Once again, Erik and Justin get distracted by Peri's outfit. They also enjoy the arrival of evil chef Shockeye. Alderaani food comes into the discussion. Erik explains why the Second Doctor's mission for the Time Lords breaks continuity, but is, nevertheless, a great plot device. He also reminds Justin where he's seen actor Jacqueline Pearce before. Also, Weng Weng makes an unexpected appearance.

In our 30th episode we travel back to 1966 and even further back to Culloden Moor for a tale of Jacobite intrigue which continues to flesh out the newly regenerated Second Doctor and introduces everyone's favourite piper: Jamie McCrimmon. Neither Andy or Alex were familiar with the story but find much here to enjoy despite all the terrible accents and the oooh-arrghhhing of the stereotypical Trask. Polly comes under fire, the Doctor's character goes under the microscope and the fact that this is the last pure historical until Black Orchid is discussed. However, the biggest question remains 'What in the world is Hannah Gordon doing to the Laird in *that* telesnap?!' As usual there is time to stray beyond Doctor Who, this time into Dynasty and the film Working Girl. And of course there's the Cailleach and a quiz on the introductory lines of Target novelisations. Enjoy! We love you xxx Next Time: Revenge of the Cybermen Big thanks to Clayton Hickman for the photo colourisation.

A Missing Serial. Which means we find a way to talk for an hour about 13 seconds of film. KIDDING! Thanks to all the nerds of the 1960s who hardwired reel-to-reel recorders to their televisions to capture sound, we have a complete audio track. Telesnaps -- on set photographs -- have been cobbled together with that nerd-sourced material to make an archive of what the creators intended. And thus, we are introduced to young Jamie McCrimmon, soon to join the TARDIS crew. Also featured in this episode -- Vic gets to discuss the Protestant Reformation, Scottish History and Civil Rights movements, all in one podcast. (Life may never be so good again.) So flin' oan a kilt and come alang wi' us oan a journey to The Highlanders.

Divergent Universe listen along   A cell. Four walls, one door. Jamie McCrimmon can escape, but it means unravelling a puzzle of extraordinary complexity. And there are more than just two players in this game. The Doctor is there. So is his opponent, Side. As a hero turns killer, and a rebellion becomes anarchy, the lines between good and evil are blurred. And so does the distinction between cause and effect… Written By: Eddie Robson Directed By: Lisa Bowerman Cast Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon), Dominic Mafham (Moran) Producer David Richardson Script Editor Jacqueline Rayner

In their first podcast of 2016, Phil and Paul have a listen to Legend of The Cybermen, a sixth Doctor audio story from Big Finish. In this sequel to the Mind Robber, The War Games AND the Wheel in Space, the Doctor teams up again with Zoe Heriot and Jamie McCrimmon to tackle the Cybermen in a most unpredictable place. So will Phil and Paul enjoy this rather continuity heavy story? Listen to find out but be aware that there are spoilers aplenty in this weeks podcast! And in the news this week, Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat hint that series 10 could be their last, Paul McGann is up for returning as the Doctor on TV and in Omega's Tat Corner, two items of tat that neither Phil nor Paul understand.

Presenting the  Frazer Hines DWPA  interview podcast recorded at whoovers 3 - 2011 Biog taken from his own site http://www.thespeakersagency.com/speakerprofile/189/Frazer%20Hines/ Frazer (born in Horsforth, Yorkshire) is a British actor best known for his roles as Jamie McCrimmon in the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who, and Joe Sugden in Emmerdale Farm (later just Emmerdale). At the age of eight, after studying acting at the Corona Academy, he made his acting debut. He later appeared in the first Hammer horror film X The Unknown (1955) and then Charlie Chaplin's A King in New York (1957) followed by The Weapon, starring Lizabeth Scott, in the same year. By the end of the 1950s he had appeared in twelve films. In 1960 he appeared in the eight-part serial The Young Jacobites for the British Children's Film Foundation. His television roles included Jan in The Silver Sword (1957-8), Tim Birch in Emergency Ward 10 (1963-4), and Roger Wain in Coronation Street (1965). In Doctor Who he played the part of Jamie McCrimmon, a companion of the Second Doctor, from 1966 to 1969 as well as reappearing in The Five Doctors (1983) and The Two Doctors (1985). After his three-year stint as Jamie he resumed the life of a jobbing actor (appearances include The Last Valley (1970) with Michael Caine and Omar Sharif, and Zeppelin (1971) with Michael Yorke) until he was cast in the new soap opera Emmerdale Farm as Joe Sugden in 1972 — a role he played until 1994. In between making episodes of Emmerdale, as it was renamed in the 1980's, he has continued a career in the theatre and made occasional appearances in other TV shows. Hines was a noted amateur horse jockey, and still maintains a great interest in horseracing through his breeders club at Newmarket. Other interests include cricket, fine dining, women and wine. Hines has recorded linking narration for many Second Doctor serials which no longer exist in video form; the soundtracks, along with Hines' narration, have been released on CD by BBC Audio. He has also appeared in several of Big Finish's Doctor Who audio plays. Among his many theatre credits are twenty eight consecutive pantomimes in which he has played everything from Buttons to Fleshcreep. He is an accomplished after dinner speaker and co-owns a record company in Australia with his nephew Clive.
