The Cubs are playing a game of Jenga with their bullpen lately, searching for any combination of healthy arms that doesn't cause the precarious structure to topple. Andy Martínez and Tony Andracki are joined by former pitcher Sean Marshall to discuss the potential avenues for how the Cubs can resolve their bullpen concerns and what the team can do to rise above the insane number of injuries it is facing right now. The human mindset is a powerful force that shapes our thoughts, behaviors, and life experiences. Understanding and harnessing it is key to personal growth and success. But, have you ever wondered just how much control you have over your own mindset? In this episode, I had an insightful talk with Sean Marshall, a Mindset Coach and Founder of Future Pace Coaching and Consulting. Our discussion ventured deep into the human mindset. Sean discussed the idea of fluid mindset and shares tips for mastering emotional control when faced with triggering situations. Sean shared what Shadow Work is and how it helped his clients. Tune in for an enriching exploration of mindset and the techniques to harness its potential. --- Listen to the podcast here: Mindset Matters: Strategies for Mindful Living with Sean Marshall Welcome to Action's Antidotes, your antidote to the mindset that keeps you settling for less. I start with this tagline every single time, “Your antidote to the mindset that keeps you settling for less,” because, in its essence, this podcast is all about mindset. I share all kinds of stories about all kinds of people that have done amazing things and follow their true passions, follow their true dreams, but one of the things that is required in order to do that is the right mindset and it's my hope that these stories, by being exposed to enough of them and being exposed to enough of the type of content that I provide, will help you improve your mindset so that you believe that whole, “I can, I will, and I should,” as far as whatever it is that you really want out of your life, in essence. My guest today, Sean Marshall, the founder of Future Pace Coaching and Consulting, is indeed a mindset coach and his work is all about improving his clients' mindset. --- Sean, welcome to the program. Thank you, Steven. Thanks for having me here. Thank you for joining us and let's start, let's dive right into mindset. How would you describe your mindset as you approach Future Pace or any of your other endeavors in life? So what I find serves me best, okay, is my mindset, I would imagine, just like most people's, is fluid. Sometimes, my mindset is better than others than at other times and so what I like to look at my mindset is I'm curious. If I'm on a roll, I'm curious. If I'm having a day or two where things might present some opportunities for me to grab a learning to help me move down the path, that's where the curiosity comes in. And so I'm always looking at my behaviors and asking myself, by doing this, is this the person I want to become?Click To Tweet So that's in any situation where you have a choice? Is that what you default to ask yourself? I don't believe that anybody has arrived. Yeah. We are all on our own journey, we're all on our own path, and when I find myself presented with situations where I might look at things a little sideways or they might have me curious and just kind of showing up in a way that maybe isn't who I'd want to be, I have to ask myself, I really have to ask myself, “What's going on here?” If I remain stuck, if I remain triggered, if I remain angry or trapped in some type of emotion, effectively, what I'm doing is I'm giving all my power away. And it's one thing to say, “Oh, that person drives me crazy,” and you're pointing your finger at somebody, it's not so much that you have three fingers pointing back at you saying, “Well, take a look at yourself,” it's the fact that the person that you're pointing at is the very thing or very person that you're giving all of your power away to. And so when I work with my clients, I have to be able to do this with myself too. Anything that I asked my clients to do, it's something that I've done for myself. I have to be able to be congruent in what I'm asking my clients and for that space, for that reason, for that purpose, I'm constantly running myself through these questions,
The Cubs are red-hot, having won 10 of 12 and 4 straight series. They've knocked the Pirates from 1st place all the way to 4th and are threatening to climb to the top of the NL Central...if not for the apparently unstoppable Cincinnati Reds.Sean Marshall joins the podcast (31:06) to break down the Cubs' recent run with Andy Martínez and Tony Andracki. From the major turnaround by the offense to the steadying presence of the rotation, the Cubs are firing on all cylinders right now.Marshall also breaks down the importance of the pitcher-catcher dynamic and why we're seeing so much success from Marcus Stroman and Tucker Barnhart. With the Cubs heading to London, Marshall explains how the players should approach the grueling travel of the trip to keep the momentum going.Plus, we discuss Trey Mancini's role on the team, Mike Tauchman's stellar play, Christopher Morel's adjustments in the DH spot, Kyle Hendricks in prime "Professor" form and Nick Madrigal's recent resurgence.
The first time the Mets walked off the Yankees was in the first Subway Series iteration at Shea Stadium, in the second year of interleague play, 1998 — Luis Lopez hit a sac fly off Ramiro Mendoza that brought home Carlos Baerga with the winning run.The next year, Matt Franco singled home Rickey Henderson and Edgardo Alfonzo to lead the Mets to an improbable 9-8 victory over Mariano Rivera. There was a Shane Spencer walkoff fielder's choice in 2004 against Tanyon Sturtze to bring home Kaz Matsui, then a David Wright single off Rivera that scored Paul Lo Duca in 2006. After Jason Bay singled home Scott Hairston in the 10th inning of a 2011 game against Hector Noesi, the Mets walked off Rivera in a third different decade when Lucas Duda singled in Wright for a 2-1 verdict in 2013.The Mets didn't hit their first walkoff homer against the Yankees until 2020, when they did it twice: Amed Rosario off Aroldis Chapman (at Yankee Stadium in a doubleheader, what a strange time) and Pete Alonso off Albert Abreu. The Mets still haven't walked off the Yankees with a homer in front of people because next came Starling Marte's single off Wandy Peralta last year… and then last night, the first walkoff double the Mets have ever had against the Yankees, Brandon Nimmo driving in Eduardo Escobar (who also scored last year's walkoff run) off Nick Ramirez.Walkoff doubles are rare because how often is someone running all the way to second base on a walkoff hit? The winning run is scoring ahead of you, and you can probably stop at first base. Last night, Nimmo's ball hung up in the air, so he was running it out while Escobar had to hold up and make sure the ball wasn't caught. The Mets, in their history, have had 139 regular-season walkoff homers, and just — now — 33 walkoff doubles.Escobar had one last year against the Phillies, hit to a similar spot in right field as Nimmo did last night. Before that, you have to go back to Austin Jackson off Javy Guerra in the 13th inning against the Marlins in 2018, and before that Justin Turner against Sean Marshall and the Cubs in 2011. Wright and Ed Kranepool are the only Mets with multiple walkoff doubles, each with two.The major league record for career walkoff doubles is five, according to Stathead, and it's shared by Adrián González, Chuck Klein, Hunter Pence, and Frank Robinson. Escobar has three in his career, which puts him second to Eric Hosmer among active players, and tied with a group that ranges from Henry Aaron to Don Slaught. It's a weird sport. For our second season, we wanted to begin with a challenge that faces many cities, large and small, that has been given a higher sense of urgency due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That challenge is the need for safe streets and active transportation routes for pedestrians and cyclists. To create these spaces, you need to be able to communicate the problem, and pinpoint where an intervention can provide the most benefit. That's where data comes in. In this episode, Walk Toronto co-founder Sean Marshall tells us how the advocacy group used things like Google Maps to crowd-source sidewalks too narrow to social distance, and help influence policy. Shabnem Afzal, road safety manager for Surrey, British Columbia, overseas that city's Vision Zero program — a global effort to reduce the amount of road injury and death to zero. She explains how data was used to generate support for a safe streets program and to identify problem areas. And Halifax City Councillor Waye Mason tells us about that city's mobility response, and an interactive map that lets citizens identify spots where safe street interventions for walk, cycling, and social distancing are needed.

When a Blue Mountains Unions & Community member member brought the issue of 5G to a meeting our members were divided in their opinions. But some members said they didn't really know enough to form an opinion about whether 5G is a threat or an opportunity. This episode features our attempts to find out. It begins with a basic high school physics refresher about waves. A slight correction needs to be made about the definition of "latency", which you can find in this link. At about 14 minutes in we hear from Sean Marshall, an organiser with the Health Services Union who is a workplace safety officer for those who work with electromagnetic radiation. Towards the end of that segment, and about half an hour in, we hear some of the discussion from BMUC members that Sean's talk generated. As mentioned in the show, the locations of 5G towers and their official safety documentation can be found on the RFNSA website. So, do we need to worry about 5G or not? Listen, and make up your own mind. This episode was first broadcast on Radio Blue Mountains 89.1FM over a couple of shows early in 2020, then repeated in full in June 2020. Yes, it’s a transit themed podcast this Christmas week as we go backward to the Transit Summit and Town Hall hosted by the Transit Action Alliance of Guelph (TAAG) that happened in November to hear from the three out-of-town guests who took part in the festivities. First, there's Vincent Puhakka of the advocacy group TTCRiders. Puhakka has written for the Toronto Star, Torontoist, and Spacing Magazine; and promoted transit action on Newstalk 1010 radio and CBC Metro Morning. At the Transit Summit, Puhakka talked about some of the ways his group has been successful in promoting action on transit in Toronto, and how people can follow in their example. After that it's Sean Marshall, who is a Toronto-based geographer and writer with an interest in public transportation, pedestrian safety, and local politics. Marshall actually appeared on the Guelph Politicast in advance of the Transit Summit, and he talks here again about the long-term challenges of transit development, how preconceived notions stifle innovation, how different transit options have had difficulty getting off the ground, and how we can all help them grow and expand. And finally, we’ll hear from Terry Johnson, who has been actively involved in campaigning for better bus and train services across Southwestern Ontario since 2011. He's served on the board of Transport Action Ontario for two years, and was elected national president of Transport Action Canada in May 2019. Johnson talked about Transport Action's efforts to raise awareness about the tremendous holes in transit service in Southwestern Ontario, including a report they wrote a couple of years trying to get more attention to the problem. These three speakers layout an interesting case about getting to work on all that needs to be done to deal with the lack of transit options across the province. The challenges are certainly great, but at the same time they made the case that there’s a lot of different things people can do as advocates and users to encourage the creation of more transit options here, and around Ontario. So let's talk about getting better transit options for Christmas on this holiday edition of the Guelph Politicast! If you want to hear more from TAAG, you only have to wait until next week’s edition of the Guelph Politicast for a quarterly discussion on transit issues with TAAG, and our recurring segment, The Transit Pass. The host for the Guelph Politicast is Podbean. Find more episodes of the Politicast here, or download them on your favourite podcast app at iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, and Spotify. This weekend, the new Transit Action Alliance of Guelph (TAAG) will be holding their first annual Transit Summit and Town Hall. It will be a chance for the transit users and the transit curious to engage with City of Guelph employees and transportation advocates about how to make a transit-friendlier future. But why wait to get started? This week, we'll hear from Sean Marshall, who's a prolific writer and advocate for transit and will be speaking and presenting at the Transit Summit on Saturday. Marshall's a geographer by training, but he’s made a name for himself as one of the preeminent voices on transit issues, covering them on the TVO website, and on his own personal blog, by digging into the history and the challenges all around this province in creating more transit and better active transportation options. These are interesting transit times. In Guelph, we’re in the middle of creating a Transportation Master Plan. Up the road in Kitchener-Waterloo, the long-awaited LRT finally started running this past summer. In Toronto, the city council there finally reached a deal with the Government of Ontario to fund new subway expansion while retaining ownership of the present system. And Metrolinx is doing their damnedest to make two-way, all-day GO trains a reality on the Kitchener Line. So why does it still feel like we're going no where fast? On this week's podcast, we'll consider that question in what we'll call a preamble to the summit. Marshall will talk about growing up as a transit nerd in Brampton, and how that much maligned GTA municipality might actually be a really positive example of transit expansion done right. We also talk about the transit challenges in Guelph and the region from Marshall’s perspective, and we get into the weeds about the Ontario Line, two-way, all-day GO and the transit plans from the Provincial Government. Finally, we'll talk about private operators and what role they can play in answering the transit needs of Ontario. So let's get prepared to summit on transit with this week's Guelph Politicast! You can find Sean Marshall's writing on TVO.org, and on his personal website. The first annual Transit Summit and Town Hall this Saturday at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church from 12 to 5:30 pm, and you can get tickets at TAAG's website. The host for the Guelph Politicast is Podbean. Find more episodes of the Politicast here, or download them on your favourite podcast app at iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, and Spotify. Today on the podcast, Sean talks with Sean Marshall, the K-3rd grade pastor at Destiny Church, about preparing kids for preteen ministry. With most churches each ministry does there own thing which makes it difficult to prepare kids to move into different ministries as they grow up. Sean Marshall looked at what Elevate was teaching so that he could make sure than when the 3rd graders transitioned over they were prepared. By understanding the vision of the next ministry the kids will be heading into, the job of the younger kid’s pastor is to make sure that those students moving up are ready to be in that new ministry. Some of the ways Sean Marshall is preparing the kids for transition is really making sure they know who is who in the Bible. Currently they are producing a curriculum that will go chronologically through the Bible with a two-year plan to look at the characters of the Bible. Some smaller things that you can do is having the preteen pastor make an appearance in the kid’s ministry service on occasion, so the kids know who the pastor is. A fun idea is an ice cream Sunday right before they come into the new ministry so that the kids and their families can get to know the preteen ministry team. Additionally, the 3rd graders are planning to come over and sit in on a portion of the preteen service before they actually transition over. Showing the partnership between the ministries shows continuity. Making sure they are excited to move onto the next step is key to an easy transition. If you're still doing all the work in your side hustle or business yourself, you're limiting your growth. This is an episode about getting out of your own way--about the transformation from technician to business owner. To help me work through the 6 Rules of Scale, I invited Sean Marshall from FamilyRocketship.com back to the program. We last heard from Sean way back in episode 92 in early 2015. I think he’s someone worth paying attention to because he’s set up his business (an online marketing agency) in such a way that the day-to-day operations don’t require much of his direct involvement at all. On the surface, his is a freelancing business, but Sean has avoided the common freelancing trap (or ceiling) of trading his own time for money. In doing so, that affords him and his family a pretty cool lifestyle. Last time we caught up they were living in Cozumel Mexico, and today, he and his wife and 3 daughters are spending several months in Scotland. Before we dive into the 6 Rules with Sean, he proposed two questions to ponder as pre-requisites: Why did you start your business in the first place? What do you want out of it? How big do you want it to be? What’s the highest and best use of your time? To achieve that ultimate why from question #1, what things do you need to do to get there, and equally important, what are the things you need to stop doing. So those are 2 questions to keep in mind as we go through this episode.

Today you'll be hearing from Irish stand-up comedian Sean Marshall. It being so close to Christmas we had to, at least, appear seasonal and have a natter about it, so we had a chat about Christmas in Dublin and the 12 Pubs of Christmas phenomenon that has swept the country like a wave of beer-vomit over the last few years. Then we got onto the main act and the reason you're listening; comedy. We spoke about how and why Sean got into it, seeing comedy as a challenging calling, even though happy in his work Sean decided comedy was something he had to have a go at. And in a complete act of the bizarre it turns out that Sean and I are not only from the same county in Ireland, we grew up around 10 miles from each other, but don't worry we don't spend too long on it. In his other life Sean is a bit of a science geek, well, not a bit of he's even got a Masters in it (in Science Communication) and had been hosting his own podcast called Science Chat. So we had a really illuminating talk about Science Communication and its place in the wider world and the uphill battle scientists must fight to keep the general population up to speed and educated. We spoke about Sean's influences growing up and of course our traditional closing question on advice for comedians.
