Rice began playing the game at an early age and participated in countless junior events in South Africa with fellow competitors Ernie Els and Retief Goosen. Rice received a scholarship to the University of Central Florida where he lead his team to two NCAA final berths and in 1991 finished as a 2nd Team All-American with Justin Leonard. In 1990 and 1991, Rice was also an Academic All-American. Following college, Rice pursued his professional career by playing in various South African Events and Mini-Tour Events. His passion soon lead him to instruction. He began working for David Leadbetter at the Junior Golf Academy in Florida where he remained as a Senior Instructor for more than six years. Rice has coached PGA, LPGA and Champions Tour golfers along with multiple USGA champions.
