Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady, who has been in Cleveland to direct a production of Glory Denied. Frank recorded a behind-the-scenes video at a rehearsal for the Akima Cabaret, which will take place on March 1 and 2, 2024 at the Mill & Mine. Frank will be the emcee and auctioneer for Marble City Opera's Pop-Up Opera Party on February 24, 2024. Frank tells Kathryn that he's not a real auctioneer and that last year he faked it. Buy tickets at https://www.marblecityopera.com/ Frank's friend Bean sent him a text about a member of Trans-Siberian Orchestra who passed away. Frank and Jere went to a TSO concert at Thompson-Boling Arena and recognized local violinist Julie Bélanger Roy on stage. Frank and Jere went to a Mannheim Steamroller concert at the Tennessee Theatre. They recognized several players from the Knoxville Symphony orchestra including violinist Sean Claire and oboist Claire Chenette. The band had just taken a bow when an announcement was made about a shooting nearby. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Buy books and other merchandise autographed by Body Farm founder Dr. Bill Bass at https://bonezones.com/ including Body Farm t-shirts. Contact BoneZones to hire Frank to give a presentation about Dr. Bass and the Body Farm. One of Kathryn's friends in Texas owned a Kia Soul that was stolen. She says there is a TikTok video that challenges people to steal Kia Souls. Frank saw a meme about a Kia Soul that thought it was a Tesla. Frank was parked at St. John's Cathedral while waiting for a Marble City Opera board meeting. He saw a vehicle from WVLT across the street. The employees of the TV station flew a drone over the parking lot, which is the proposed site for a new hotel. Frank and Jere watched a Detroit Lions playoff game but the sound on their over-the-air box doesn't work. Frank recommends watching a game with Jere's commentary. It felt the same as watching TV in a restaurant that you can see but not hear. Frank and Jere went to a movie theater to see three episodes of The Chosen. There was a five-minute intermission between the second and third episodes but Frank wished it was longer. Morning Light visits with Martin Karpiel from the Order of Malta about the upcoming World Day of the Sick on Feb. 10th and the Mass at St. John's Cathedral.
Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Kathryn Frady of Marble City Opera, who will be performing as Olha in The Christmas Spider on January 6, 2024 at St. John's Cathedral. Tickets and information at https://www.marblecityopera.com/ Children's tickets are free with the discount code PENNYARTS. Kathryn stopped by the final Einstein Simplified improv show of the year. At the show, someone in the balcony dropped their vape device on Frank's wife Jere. Frank performed in a game in which the other improviser could only read lines from an audience member's text messages. One time when Frank was reading the texts, the girlfriend of the phone's owner stormed out. Frank felt bad about breaking up the couple but Kathryn's perspective is that Frank saved the girl from a bad relationship. Kathryn performed in The Christmas Spider in Baton Rouge in December. There will be two performances in Knoxville on January 6, 2024. Each performance will feature different children in the lead roles. The first show is at 2:30 p.m. and the other is at 5:00 p.m. Kathryn's aunt gave her a gift that was in an empty box of chocolates. It was a small painting of Kathryn's dog. She once bought an empty gift box that was decorated to look like it contained an earwax candle. Frank upset his wife when he left his phone upstairs. One time she had a flat tire but didn't leave him a voicemail. She kept calling back until he answered. Another time he yelled at Siri to answer. Kathryn suggests that he wear his AirPods all day. Another time when Jere couldn't reach Frank, she asked their next-door neighbor to check on him. Frank has tried using the Google AI program called Bard to help him write a letter of recommendation. He also tried asking it to write a theme song for the Frank & Friends Show. When Frank turned on his work computer, it was open to a Bing browser showing Christmas gift ideas. It appears to have done that by itself. The new season of Tennessee Scholars' Bowl begins airing on January 8, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. on East Tennessee PBS. Three Boise churches are home to some particularly interesting stained glass windows. From the outside, you can hardly tell. The windows look dark, dim, and gray-brown. Yet inside, there is a wonderful variety of color and stories revealed. My travelling companion and I were in Den Bosch, Netherlands, for the weekend and found St.John's Cathedral whilst wandering around. There was a service in proceedings for the celebration of Pentecost. You can hear the opening and closing of the gates on the stalls as people come to sit down, and also in the middle section of music as people get up to queue for their communion wafers. Morning Light presents "Vocations Focus" on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month. Today, Jim Nourse talks with Dcn. Daniel Gamboa from St. John's Cathedral.
What are you doing here, poet, on the ruins Of St. John's Cathedral this sunny Day in spring? What are you thinking here, where the wind Blowing from the Vistula scatters The red dust of the rubble? You swore never to be A ritual mourner. You swore never to touch The deep wounds of your nation So you would not make them holy With the accursed holiness that pursues Descendants for many centuries. But the lament of Antigone Searching for her brother Is indeed beyond the power Of endurance. And the heart Is a stone in which is enclosed, Like an insect, the dark love Of a most unhappy land. I did not want to love so. That was not my design. I did not want to pity so. That was not my design. My pen is lighter Than a hummingbird's feather. This burden Is too much for it to bear. How can I live in this country Where the foot knocks against The unburied bones of kin? I hear voices, see smiles. I cannot Write anything; five hands Seize my pen and order me to write The story of their lives and deaths. Was I born to become a ritual mourner? I want to sing of festivities, The greenwood into which Shakespeare Often took me. Leave To poets a moment of happiness, Otherwise your world will perish. It's madness to live without joy And to repeat to the dead Whose part was to be gladness Of action in thought and in the Only two salvaged words: Truth and justice.
