Bryan, Texas artist Tyler Vail is the Grand Prize Winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest earning him the Golden Brush Award trophy and $5,000. His illustration of the story, "Squiddy," by Writers of the Future Winner John Eric Schleicher is published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 40 which was officially released on May 7th. Mr. Vail was honored along with the other winners in the Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests on April 25th at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California. Tyler Vail was born in 1996 in Dallas, Texas. At a young age, Tyler was deeply inspired by fantasy and sci-fi media and would spend many late nights striving to bring his ideas to life in the form of drawings. He would later refine his skills as an illustrator by joining every art contest he could find, actively participating in online communities, and getting feedback from anyone that would look at his art. Today, Tyler continues his passion for art and dreaming of fantastic new worlds, characters, and creatures. He enjoys working with other creatives to share in a collaborative and positive experience and strives for excellence in all aspects of the artistic process. Missoula, Montana writer John Eric Schleicher is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest and was honored along with eleven other writers and twelve artists at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California on April 25th. His story, "Squiddy," is published along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 40 which will be officially released on May 7th. John Eric Schleicher writes stories that leave behind a fantastical aftertaste long after reading. While story rules the roost, John Eric's favorite authors tell their tales with panache and pleasing prose. Toni Morrison, Cormac McCarthy, Stephen King, and Ray Bradbury top his literary cake. When not reading or writing, John Eric enjoys wandering wonderstruck, whether on two legs or knobby wheels, the mountains near his home in Missoula, Montana. His greatest loves are his son Ryder and wife Ashlee, to whom “Squiddy” is dedicated. “Squiddy,” his first professional sale, is a spawn of the post-apocalyptic imaginings of an extraterrestrial Squid invasion and explores the self-destructive habits we seek to escape or soften despair. John Eric's short fiction has also appeared in Creepy Podcast.

THE ‘BABY DOLL' SERIAL KILLER: The John Eric Armstrong HomicidesOctober 28He was unassuming, sweet, and friendly. “Saved” in church as a teen, he never caused trouble. In the Navy, they called him Opie. Though he was a big guy, he had a soft, boyish demeanor. “The boy next door,” said those who worked with and knew him.But John Eric Armstrong had a dark secret—hidden even from those closest to him.Prowling Detroit's well-known pocket of prostitution on historic Michigan Ave, this young husband and father picked up unsuspecting women who thought they were simply meeting a john. The episode that you will be listening to is an interview I recorded with John Eric Henry (JEH) the manager for the safe parking program in alameda county The safe parking program is individuals that are experiencing from housing insecurity, as they are living in their cars. The program is called safe parking because the goal is to provide them a safe space to park their car while they receive services to transition them out of homelessness into housing. I met John Eric, I like to call him JEH, through my 9-5 doing work helping people suffering from homelessness. And I got to know him and the remarkable work that he does. A person of service and I wanted to delve deeper into this Maester's mind around this topic. To me service is an integral part of living our best and most fulfilling lives. I hope you listen and truly hear this great intellect and kind soul. I also want to apologize for the sound quality but I did not want to rerecord, because I wanted to get this episode to you on this Maester of Service, our real life front line heroes. His favorite quotes are:“That which makes you happy can't make you fly” - Peter Pan“Feed Your Head” - Alice In WonderlandHis book recommendation is the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey j-e/h manages the Safe Parking Program, linked below:http://www.alcosafeparking.com/https://alcosafeparking.com/index.htmlLet's go, let's get it done. Released 26 April 2022. Early in academic year 2018, a group of US Army War College faculty and students came together in pursuit of an integrated research project devoted to an examination of contested deployment and the growing realization the US homeland can no longer be considered an inviolable zone in preparing for war. Expecting free movement of forces in mobilization, movement to ports of embarkation, and deployment against the nation's adversaries is beneath reason. Two oceans and benevolent neighbors to the north and south can no longer be considered a significant buffer against internal and external enemies. Adversaries of the United States will seek to disrupt or disable the movement of its forces long before they can be placed in combat against foes overseas, and the nation must be prepared for this opposition.

Meet John Eric, comic guy hunter. Ok not much of a hunter but a very good friend of mine that I meet up at MTL Comiccon every year. We have different objectives when we visit the convention however we still love the convention and he goes for panels and to buy comics. My guest this week is Dr. John Eric Baugher, author of Contemplative Caregiving: Finding Healing, Compassion, and Spiritual Growth Through End-of-Life Care. We often think of caregiving as an act of self-sacrifice, but John makes it clear that caring for others is a privilege, and can be one of the most meaningful things we ever do. In this episode we talk about how he started working in hospice care on the front lines of the AIDS crisis in New Orleans in the early nineties. This is more than a conversation about how we die—it’s really about who we want to be and how we can connect with others as we live each moment of our lives. Topics John and I explored together include: How experiences of suffering draw us toward meaning The recent development of hospice care A way of being that heals Care of the dying as a meeting of mutual vulnerabilities Caregiving as a spiritual practice and path of self-illumination Awareness of death as a means to see more deeply into everyday things How little “doing” is required to be with the dying The reciprocity in end-of-life caregiving Our indebtedness to those who open to receive our love The preparation needed for contemplative caregiving The seamlessness between dying and living in hospice care Finding a contemplative space to hear the stirrings of our heart John's excellent book is available on Amazon and elsewhere (affiliate link): Contemplative Caregiving John Eric Baugher, PhD, is a certified nursing assistant, bereavement group facilitator, hospice caregiver, and chaplain, with a doctorate in sociology. He turned to end-of-life caregiving as a young man following the loss of his mother to murder. Over the past 25 years he’s provided emotional, spiritual, and bereavement support to countless dying persons and their family members. John has published research studies and essays on stress and healthy coping, organizational change, transformational learning, caregiver support, and hospice care. His writing and teaching weave together insights from the depths of his own grief with those of individuals from diverse backgrounds and walks of life. John has been a transformative educator for more than two decades, and has given numerous invited talks and workshops at universities, religious institutions, and healthcare organizations in the US, Mexico, Germany, and Austria. His work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities. His innovative approach integrates the principles and practices of contemplative caregiving in the contexts of healthcare, education, and leadership. John seeks to lift up the dignity of all, affirming that we each have the spiritual capacity to face the suffering of this life with courage and compassion, and to be transformed in the process. Find John online at his website and connect with him on Twitter and Facebook.

"Lapsena olin varsinainen urheiluhullu, ja urheilulla oli ratkaiseva merkitys suomalaiselle identiteetilleni", kirjoittaa Kjell Westö kirjailijatoverilleen Juha Itkoselle äskettäin julkaistussa 7+7 -kirjeenvaihtokirjassa (Otava, 2019). Westö on pelannut nuorena käsipalloa Sparta IF:n riveissä sekä höntsäillyt jalkapalloa mm. Entä millaista on mm.
Get Up Nation®! My name is Ben Biddick, the Creator and Host of the Get Up Nation® Podcast and Co-Author of Get Up: The Art of Perseverance with former Major League Baseball player Adam Greenberg. Recently I had the honor and privilege of speaking with Dr. John Eric Baugher, the author of Contemplative Caregiving: Finding Healing, Compassion, and Spiritual Growth Through End-of-Life Care. John has been a contemplative educator, social science researcher, and end-of-life caregiver for more than two decades. Dr. Baugher consults and offers workshops internationally on spiritual care, grief, and transformation, and contemplative learning. John’s website is www.johnericbaugher.com. There you will see 2 quotes. One from Thupten Jinpa, the Principal Translator of the Dalai Lama that reads “Our families, hospitals, prisons, and whole society can benefit from the vision of compassion offered by John Baugher.” The second quote reads “Baugher pioneers for us the very outer frontiers of human empathy” from Arlie Hochschild, a finalist for the National Book Award. Dr. Baugher’s mission is to “support those who suffer and those who care with teachings on the practice of compassionate caregiving. His vision is to create “a world where compassion for all is the foundation of human culture and social systems.” I feel very honored to be speaking with John today and to learn his insights and perspective on how we as individuals, organizations, and societies can develop and sustain resilience as we are confronted with the reality of death and seek to ease suffering during our experience of life. Pioneering educator and researcher Dr. John Eric Baugher was just eighteen years old when his mother was murdered. Filled with rage, John felt he was fated to join his mother's killer in life imprisonment. Not behind bars, but behind psychological walls of unresolved grief and anger. How he channeled his grief and discovered compassion and even humor in the face of death is at the heart of John's new book, "Contemplative Caregiving: Finding Healing, Compassion and Spiritual Growth Through End of Life Care." Jana talks with John about how "Contemplative Caregiving" evolved from his early years as a hospice caregiver in New Orleans, at the peak of the AIDS crisis, to working with hospice volunteers at a maximum-security prison and interviewing dozens of hospice volunteers in the US and abroad. Without sugarcoating the experience, John also describes meeting his mother's killer, who is still behind bars. "Contemplative Caregiving" affirms John's belief that we can transform experiences of loss and suffering into a path of compassion, and that even amid the challenges of caregiving we can find joy in unlikely places. To purchase a transcript of this episode please visit this page: Transcripts. Rebecca is joined by John Eric Baugher, a scholar, writer and teacher exploring the transformative possibilities of contemplative end of life care. His book, Contemplative Caregiving offers encouragement to show up in the fullness of life. This is an in-person (one microphone) interview and it’s a long one. In this episode ... John asks us to contemplate questions like “would you be without your grief?” and Rebecca shares her own contemplations. In regards to measuring quality of life, we discuss the power of mining life’s suffering, because this is often where contentment, joy, meaning comes from. End-of-life care introduces us to the natural cycle of life. There is no giving without receiving. We explore “reciprocity of care” through illustrative stories regarding end of life care. This is also a conversation around relational equality, dignity and mutual vulnerability. The word Hospice, implies both guest and host. The founders of the hospice movement, meant it to be a transformational space. Perhaps this is what we’re missing in today’s culture. Don’t we need to be thinking more about the mutual reciprocity of relationships in our life? Reverence: a sense of awe for what is. The discernment and attunement required in the process of being with and caring for another. ““This is where he ended, and I needed to begin.” Tom, in an interview with John. John and Rebecca discuss the profundity of Tom’s insight into his very first patient he was caring for. The caregiving became a path of self-illumination. Symbolic acts that get coded as “care”. Care can sometimes be driven by our incapacity or inability or unwillingness to recognize that a loved one is exiting soon. What’s an appropriate response today might not be an appropriate response tomorrow. Hospice caregiving in prison: when caregivers, who are also prisoners, apprehend their own humanity. Caregiving is a privilege that can transform a life. John discusses the power that anger can have, and the sickness that can come with it when we try to bypass the fullness of our grief, which can include anger. Radical compassion and having more healthy encounters. Loving our imperfect care, rejuvenation and depletion, and seeing our own mind and our own heart as we’re caring. Hearing “That’s her baseline” as a euphemism, and the ensuing fear and feeling of powerless. Reflecting on changing the language. To care is what makes us fundamentally human. We are connected by suffering. Listen to the entire episode to discover your own valuable insights and understanding on this topic and share it with loved ones! Paul's out of town, so John & Eric decided to sit down and talk about what they're looking forward to in the second half of the year.In doing so, we learned a few things: - Paul being gone does nothing for us running over our time: we only got through movies, so stay tuned for part 2 next week, with Paul's triumphant return.- John is the "Lowest Common Denominator (LCD)" when it comes to entertainment, and he's cool with it. (You can all kiss my ass.)- Noah may be a suitable substitute for any one of us in the future, LoL.Ok, hit us up and let us know what you think:Email us at: whatifgeeks@gmail.com"Welcome to 'What If Geeks', the show where we talk all things in Geek culture. Ep 27. Game of Thrones Series Spoiler Review. Better late than never! In our ongoing efforts to be timely and not spoil things amongst ourselves, GoT was kicking our collective asses. Paul is still somewhere in Winterfell with most of the Starks, so John & Eric took the opportunity to spoiler review the entire series while Paul was out of town. Hit us up and let us know what you agree with, disagree with and whatever other thoughts you have on one of the biggest series to hit entertainment in years!Email us at: whatifgeeks@gmail.com"Welcome to 'What If Geeks', the show where we talk all things in Geek culture.
