Today I dive into why Kendall Ellis did not run the 4x400m at the Paris Olympics, and what could have been done differently ESPN Article: https://www.espn.com/olympics/story/_/id/40812231/kendall-ellis-blindsided-late-scratch-women-relay-final --------------------------------- Host: Anderson Emerole | @emeroleanderson on Twitter SUPPORT THE PODCAST
A rainy Monday morning to start the week. Thankfully, it's going to be MUCH cooler this week with highs in the upper 70's expected almost every day this week. We recapped a lot of Olympic stuff from the last few days, including an updated medal count, Simone Biles & Katie Ledecky dominating and winning even more gold, Noah Lyles becoming the fastest man on the planet, and Brian's favorite - Ryan Crouser - getting that gold in the shot put. Plus, the French pole-vault guy's dong and the dirty ass water in the Seine making athletes sick. Did you see the kid at the Packer family night event over the weekend who caught THREE consecutive kick-offs??? Get him a contract ASAFP! Speaking of kids, there was a 14 month-old toddler that recently fell into a well but was extracted thanks to some quick-thinking firefighters & EMS workers. There's apparently a new "Alphabet Song" and to be honest, it sucks. This week's "Monday Morning Throwback" was from 2011 and included an appearance by Skradie in the marsh. Emotional moment over the weekend at the HOF induction for Steve "Mongo" McMichael & his family. A lot of Olympians are finding new & interesting ways to make a few extra bucks, just like Kendall Ellis who teamed up with Charmin after a porta-potty mishap. During today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a new A.I. "friend" that people can buy, a fugitive from Wisconsin was just caught in Iowa after being on the run since the 90's, a Frontier Airlines pilot who was arrested just before he was scheduled to take off, polite burglars in California, a #FloridaWoman who plugged a conduit pipe in her yard with some concrete, a man who found a nose ring in his Taco Bell, and a guy who stuck a live eel up his ass that began eating it's way through his abdomen. Kendall Ellis won the 400m at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Track and Field becoming a National Champion and securing her spot to run the open 400 at the Paris Olympics. She PR'd in both the semi final and the final at the trials running a time of 49.46 in the final. This was her first ... more »

The track is HOT. Okay, it's actually quite pleasant by Eugene-in-June standards, with temperatures in the high 70s and a pleasant breeze that always seems to be a tailwind in Hayward Field. But the performances laid down last night in Day 8 of the Olympic Trials sure heated up the stadium — even in events where we're not on finals yet. For the first time in history, three men broke 13 seconds in the same 110m hurdles race as Grant Holloway picked up his second national title, made his second Olympic team, and clocked the fourth-fastest performance in history ahead of Freddie Crittenden and Daniel Roberts's lifetime bests. Five men broke 20 seconds in the 200m semifinals led by Noah Lyles's wind-aided 19.60, and another epic battle between Gabby Thomas and Sha'Carri Richardson is set up in the women's 200m final. While middle-distance rounds can sometimes get tactical, they sure didn't tonight. It took 4:05.36 to make the final of the women's 1500m, and the “heavy hitters” heat did not disappoint with Nikki Hiltz making a statement with a 4:01.40 win and five finishes at 4:02.14 or faster. The 1500m final will be absolutely stacked, and in the mixed zone competitors were suggesting that it may make times well under 4 minutes just to make the team. In the men's 800m, it's clear that qualifying for the Games in the 1500m has lifted a weight off Hobbs Kessler's shoulders, as he seems to be absolutely elated in each round of racing and led all semifinal qualifiers with a huge personal best of 1:43.71. Kessler skipped the 1:44s entirely as his PB heading into this weekend was 1:45.07. It's now officially the weekend and, bittersweetly, our final two days of action, so make sure you don't miss any of these incredible competitions over the last few finals. If we've learned anything form the action we've seen so far, we're in store for something very, very fast in multiple events. “Coach Joe Lee, he kept me on a level-mind: ‘Just go out there and run your race. You're just as good, you've done so many things. Just keep focusing.' That's what I was doing. I was focusing on the race and what I could have done. When I came out of lane two, I was like, ‘You've only got one chance. This is the last final. This could be your last open 400 of the season.' I gave it everything I had.” High school phenom Quincy Wilson joins us live in Eugene after setting the U18 400m world record in back-to-back races at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials + placing 6th in the final. “In the grand scheme of things, it's probably what I needed to just be a little more fresh, more motivated and to appreciate health going into this build. Snoop Dogg is taking over the broadcast for the Paris Olympics. Wait, is Snoop the new Betty White? Less than an hour before her semifinal at U.S. track trials, 400-meter runner Kendall Ellis was trapped in a porta-potty, banging on the door, screaming for someone to let her out. Ariana Grande made her way into my show, again. Classic. She was on Podcrushed, and was talking about wanting to have dinner with Jeffery Dahmer. On August 24th 2004, Joanna Hayes won the Olympic Gold medal in the Women's 100mH in Athens, Greece. She became the first American Women to win Olympic Gold in the event since Benita Fitzgerald at the 1984 Olympics. Her winning time of 12.37 broke the Olympic Record in the event set back in Seoul 1988. Hayes has since transitioned into coaching, now working at the University of Southern California as the Assistant Sprints and Hurdles coach. "It shows, in the past two years, how much we've both improved because we've had each other to push each other the whole way." Meet Roisin Willis and Juliette Whittaker: the fastest high schoolers in American history. Not only have Roisin and Juliette spent their respective senior years breaking records and taking home world championships medals, but they've formed a very special long-distance friendship along the way — though it won't be long-distance for much longer. Both Roisin (from Stevens Point, WI) and Juliette (from Laurel, MD) are headed to Stanford University this fall. In this conversation, we get to know the 800m runners whose running resumes are already extensive. They both competed at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Team Trials last summer, as high school juniors. In April, Roisin was part of the distance medley relay world record-breaking team alongside Olympians Elle Purrier St. Pierre, Heather MacLean, and Kendall Ellis. In May, Juliette won the 800m race at Trials of Miles Track Night NYC, not only breaking the tape, but breaking 2:00 for the first time. Weeks later, she broke the 800m high school national record at USATF U20 Outdoor Championships. To cap off an exciting year and a very long track season, Roisin and Juliette got to represent Team USA at World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, where they both competed in the 800 — and became world gold and bronze medalists, respectively, in the process. Now, they're resting up, reflecting, and getting ready to head to college — together. SPONSORS: UCAN: Click here and use code ALI for 20% off your next UCAN order. "More Than Running" needs more than distance runners it needs sprinters! This week's guest is Kendall Ellis. You may remember Kendall from her viral 4x4 finish for USC back in 2018 where she walked down Georgia in the last 80 meters to win the NCAA title. Since 2019, Kendall has been a pro athlete for New Balance and ran at the Tokyo Olympics where she earned a bronze medal in the mixed relay. I recently met Kendall at the Track at New Balance when she saved the day and flew across the country on a red-eye to run the 400m leg for the distance medley relay team that clocked a world's best in the event. In this episode, we discuss Kendall's heartbreaking 4th place at the Olympic Trials in the individual 400m and how she has reframed her mindset leading into this year running with happiness and gratitude. We also talk about Kendall's love of reading, music and why she considers herself an introvert. Welcome to the eleventh episode of Racing through Life. This is a podcast hosted by OpenRace co-founders Matthew Cianci & Christian Camarata. OpenRace is a real-time virtual running app striving to connect and motivate runners, as well as help event organizers increase revenue, reach a larger audience and provide a more interactive virtual race. We found that not many people are showcasing this great and very connected running community, so OpenRace wants to amplify that exposure and show the lives of different runners and people within the running community both on and off the track. Kendall Ellis is a 24 year-old American sprinter. She is a 14-time NCAA Division I All-American, 7-time Pac-12 Conference champion and 5-time MPSF champion.
