Part II of my conversation with Shelton Marchman. We dive into business credit essentials and why they are so vital if you're looking to build your business. Many people start their business without a tax ID number or setting up an LLC. In this episode, find out what elements are essential to have in your business, why you should have a separate business entity, and how having a Sole Proprietorship can set you up for personal disaster. Shelton explains how you can obtain an EIN or tax ID number for your business, how you can set up your business income and assets as a different entity than your personal assets. He and I talk about examples of companies who have walked through the credit process correctly and others who have made mistakes with their credit. We will also dive into how you can achieve credit terms with your vendors, to build up your credit with vendors and eventually move your credit score higher up the scale. I'll also talk to Shelton about the types of credit cards you can access with your business. Choose a Business Card with Travel Perks When choosing a business credit card, look for cards that can earn you points with travel perks such as Chase Venture or American Express, who have tremendous perks for small business owners. Make sure to have your credit card account under your business name, not your personal name. This way, you're building credit for your business, not your personal credit. Listen in to find out: How to create an EIN number for your company Why your business needs a company address and website, The importance of having an email address and phone number associated only with your company Why you shouldn't elect a sole proprietorship for your business Working with vendors for payment terms How you can secure a line of credit for your business For more information, visit the show notes at https://www.amandaabella.com/final-steps-to-setting-up-business-credit-shelton-marchman

Shelton Marchman is author of Give Me Credit for Trying. He has been a business credit expert for the last two decades. Today we are going to chat into how to use debt to leverage your business correctly.   Consumer debt and business debt are two different worlds. You don't want consumer debt as this type of debt isn't useful. You definitely want to pay down consumer debt and get yourself out of that unfortunate situation.   When you want to start building wealth, your views on credit need to change. If you're going to wait on cash or plan to have cash on hand for everything, it's going to take you a lifetime to get results. As Shelton brings up in this article, he doesn't know of one business that's never had to leverage credit. When you use your credit, remember to learn to use it properly.   Entrepreneurship and Debt   Shelton's advice for entrepreneurs is to go into debt. "I don't know a single person who has successfully navigated entrepreneurship without taking out some debt. Honestly, if you make less than $200,000 personally, I don't know how you would navigate your entire life without having some debt. Whether it's a car, a home loan, or something like that, you know, some people think it's all cash. Debt is a tool. You don't want to be paying for that vacation you took to Cancun for the next five years. However, if you're buying something, that's going to help you to build credit, then that is a good move." Listen in to find out: The most common misbeliefs about debt Why you should go into debt if you have a business When you need to create a business plan How to go about getting a loan for your business The difference between personal debt and business debt For more information, visit the show notes at https://www.amandaabella.com/using-debt-to-leverage-your-company-with-shelton-marchman-part-1

The Marchman Act Specific to Florida, Florida Statute 397, also known as the “Marchman Act,” is a legislative act that provides confidential, a court ordered, assessment, stabilization, and treatment for individuals struggling with substance abuse. How the Marchman Act Works The Florida Marchman Act is a legal intervention process that can compel a substance abuser to get court ordered and monitored Assessment, Stabilization and long-term Treatment for their drug or alcohol addiction. The process begins by filing a Petition and Request for Assessment and Stabilization. The Petition and Request for Assessment and Stabilization, as well as other necessary forms, for those seeking to handle the court process without an attorney, can be found in the DCF Marchman Act Handbook. Also, the clerk of the court in the county where the petitioner seeks to file typically has the most current updated forms. When seeking help for a loved one in a court of law, an experienced attorney with a complete understanding of the Florida Marchman Act statute as well as the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure can and will increase your success in obtaining an assessment, stabilization, and treatment for your loved one. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/philip-bell/support

Saving Lives of Addicts Through The Marchman Act and Mark AstorMARK G. ASTOR BIO Born and raised in the United Kingdom until the age of twenty-one, Mark Astor has been an attorney since 1994. Before entering private practice, Mr. Astor began his legal career as a prosecutor with the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office. Mr. Astor served the citizens of Palm Beach County as an Assistant State Attorney from 1994-1999. During his career as a prosecutor, he served as Chief of two different County Court Divisions and, thereafter, was promoted to a felony trial division. He has handled thousands of cases ranging from first-degree misdemeanors to Capital Murder. Mr. Astor was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1994 and, in 1995, was admitted to practice before the U. S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. In 2005, he was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan in 1990, his Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University College of Law in 1994, and his Master of Laws Degree (L.L.M.) from American University, Washington College of Law in 2005. Mr. Astor’s law practice, Drug and Alcohol Attorneys (http://drugandalcoholattorneys.com) focuses on representing and empowering individuals who are in crisis because of drug, alcohol and mental heath disorders. Many times, individuals or families come to Mr. Astor because they have a friend or loved one who either refuses to go into treatment, or will not stay in treatment. When this is the case, Mr. Astor gives counsel to help navigate through the Marchman Act process, Florida’s involuntary commitment law for drug, alcohol and co-occurring mental heath disorders. Additionally, Mr. Astor provides counsel when there is a need to file an Emergency Guardianship Petition (ETG) so that an individual who is no longer competent to make medical decisions for themselves can have that burden taken off their shoulders. On other occasions, individuals find themselves in the criminal justice system and need assistance navigating it’s complexities, having been arrested for an offense that stems from drug addiction or mental health disorders. When he’s not working in his law practice, Mr. Astor empowers members of the community by teaching Krav Maga (the Israeli system of hand to hand taught to the military, special forces and anti-terror units). He also enjoys an early morning work out believing that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind.
