Welcome to a very special edition of Kitchen Chat: A Taste of History, Hospitality, and Luxury, broadcasting from the iconic InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco.   Perched atop Nob Hill, the InterContinental Mark Hopkins has reigned as a San Francisco landmark for nearly a century, a beacon of elegance and a witness to the city's vibrant and transformative history. From its breathtaking panoramic views to the legendary Top of the Mark lounge, this distinguished hotel has played host to a constellation of illustrious dignitaries, celebrated figures, and discerning travelers from around the globe.   I was especially touched by the story of the Squadron Shot, a tradition that continues today. During World War II, soldiers would go to Top of the Mark for a shot of their favorite drink before shipping out and upon returning home. Families would watch the ships sail from the windows at Top of the Mark. Those who have served or who are serving are invited for a complimentary shot at Top of the Mark, an award winning sky lounge. And anyone can donate a bottle to continue this tradition. You can even write a personalized note to thank them for their service.   Thank you again to Chalkboard Communications for this delicious and delightful stay at InterContinental Mark Hopkins.   ✅ Be sure and visit KitchenChat.info for more interviews and recipes.  Subscribe to the KitchenChat podcast on Apple Podcasts, https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kitchen-chat-margaret-mcsweeney/id447185040 or Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/3PpcTPpvHEh8eOMfDUm8I9   #KitchenChat #TasteOfHistory #InterContinentalMarkHopkins #SanFranciscoLandmark #NobHillViews #LuxuryTravel #TopOfTheMark #WorldWarIITradition #SquadronShot #HospitalityAndHistory #MilitaryTradition #TravelInspiration #SkyLounge #ThankYouForYourService #HistoricHotels #ChalkboardCommunications #TravelElegance #SanFranciscoExperience

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 27th of November, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Joshua 24:15: “…choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve,…” Then we go straight to the New Testament, to the Gospel of Matthew 12:30. Jesus says: “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.” I read a beautiful comment made by Mark Hopkins, he said: “Choice and service, these were demanded of the Israelites, these are demanded of you and I. These only, choice and service. In these, are the whole of life.” There is something very powerful about a public declaration, isn't there, a public declaration of your faith and service towards God?I remember my oldest son standing up the day he got married at the reception, and telling all the guests that, “Today, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” I have never forgotten that. It was many, many years ago. It cements things, doesn't it? You know the Fiji Rugby Sevens Team, a beautiful sport to watch, these huge men from Fiji are so often the world champions but I know why, I really do! It's because they are not ashamed to thank the Lord Jesus for their victory. Often I sit and I chuckle when I see the interviewer stretching out his arm with the mic to give it to the Fijian players, these huge men with the sweat pouring down their faces, some of them bleeding, cut by the match, they take hold of the mic - big mistake for the interviewer! And then they say, “We want to give God the glory! We want to thank Jesus for giving us the strength to be able to play rugby for Him.” And the interviewer is trying to rescue the mic back but he can't get it back. And then they greet all their families back in Fiji and then they start to sing hymns, that's right, they are not ashamed of the Gospel. And I believe that is where the power is. Why don't you and I do it today? Why don't we tell the first person we meet today what Jesus Christ means to us.God bless you and have a lovely day,Goodbye.

Achieving Sustainability Goals in the Era of AI

Sustainability Guest Post by Mark Hopkins, Sales Director at Dell Technologies Ireland Today, as AI seamlessly integrates into our daily lives, its adoption and impact are no longer a question of 'if' but 'when' and - most importantly - 'how'. According to a Dell Technologies study, 76% of IT leaders believe that generative AI (GenAI) will be significant or transformative for their organizations. Meanwhile, McKinsey estimates that work automation using GenAI, and other technologies will boost productivity by 60-70%. As AI becomes more embedded in our daily lives, its potential to help build a more sustainable future is becoming increasingly evident. AI's ability to analyze vast amounts of data allows businesses and governments to make more informed decisions about sustainability efforts. Moreover, from optimising energy consumption to enhancing supply chain efficiency, new technologies can help achieve sustainable goals in the era of AI. This comes as the EU pushes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and new sustainability reporting standards are being enforced, compelling businesses to rethink their ESG strategies. Organisations in Ireland see the opportunities that lie ahead. Dell's Innovation Catalysts Study found that 80% of Irish business leaders said that emerging technologies has positively impacted their sustainability goals, with 37% using technology to improve energy efficiency. However, integrating AI is not without challenges. One of the most pressing concerns is the energy intensity of AI technologies. According to a Gartner report, increasing adoption of GenAI will lead to dramatic increases in energy use, with annual ICT electricity increases of 25% or more. This rise in energy use threatens sustainability goals, as companies risk falling short of environmental performance targets. Accelerating energy efficiency Modernising data center infrastructure is one of the most effective ways to advance sustainability. AI can support this by driving efficiencies while also enhancing company's ability to monitor and manage its carbon footprint. Energy-efficient technology has also evolved significantly over the years, rendering old hardware a burden. What took six servers in 2013 takes just one today. Meanwhile, innovative software and remote management solutions can provide an overview of the organization's energy usage and environmental impact. By carefully designing their IT environment in line with their priorities, businesses can find a balance between reducing their physical footprint, increasing efficiency, and equipping themselves with the capacity they need to grow. However, as companies approach IT transformation, what they do with their data will have implications for future growth. 37% of respondents to the 2023 Dell GenAI Pulse Survey indicated that their data and intellectual property are too valuable to be placed in a GenAI tool to which a third party might have access. By bringing AI to your data, you can maintain data sovereignty while embracing the benefits of GenAI. As-a-Service enabling AI transformation while advancing sustainability The demand for flexible consumption models like 'As a Service' (aaS) is growing, as it offers companies greater agility in developing AI workloads. A Forrester study found that 88% of businesses expect sustainability benefits from adopting aaS model, and 65% anticipate cost savings for more than 10%. An aaS model ensures access to the latest, energy-efficient hardware produced with sustainability in mind, all while reducing waste. By opting for an aaS model, businesses can cut costs and reduce waste while gaining more control over their applications and data, thereby allowing them to modernise their IT environment and scale with AI where necessary. Adopting AI without compromising energy efficiency to drive the future of work Modern devices are increasingly being designed, manufactured, and shipped with sustainabilit...

Concerts That Made Us

This week Brian is joined by Chad and Mark from Rivetskull. It would be easy to call RivetSkull a traditional heavy metal band. But they are so much more than that. RivetSkull has taken the very roots of heavy metal and forged it into something new and fresh. Spawned from the same DNA that created the beasts that roamed the dark valleys of Birmingham, the foothills of the Cascades, and the plains of Texas, there's no denying RivetSkull's heavy metal heritage. This is hard-hitting music blasted over record store chatter, the buzzing of a tattoo gun, or the revving of a motorcycle engine. But, as any metalhead will tell you, heavy metal is more than just a genre: it's therapy, it's community, it's a style – and it's a movement. And it's always evolving.  RivetSkull has created a modern sound that's as unique as each member's influences, from punk to country, from alternative to funk. Listening to RivetSkull, it's easy to envision the band's live show: Chad McMurray's clean vocals soaring over a sea of bobbing bodies in black band t-shirts, Mark X. Plog's boundary-defying guitar ascending over raised beers and outstretched metal horns, Michael Robson's emphatic drums and Mark Hopkins' booming bass rattling the bones beneath black jeans and denim vests.  Like good metal – you'll feel it in your core as much as you'll hear it in your ears. All of this is brought to you by a dedicated and hard-working band of brothers. They are RivetSkull and they're bringing the past into the future.Tune in to hear all about the history of Rivetskull, why they re-recorded their first album and much much more.Find Rivetskull here:https://www.rivetskull.com/https://www.facebook.com/RivetSkullhttps://www.instagram.com/RivetSkull/https://www.youtube.com/rivetskullhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/1CBkj5T9FzAmLwByLix6BsFind CTMU here:https://linktr.ee/ConcertsthatmadeusNewsletter: https://concertsthatmadeus.aweb.page/p/f065707b-2e34-4268-8e73-94f12bd2e938If you would like to support the show you can do so by rating/reviewing us on Itunes and Spotify or by signing up at https://www.patreon.com/ConcertsthatmadeusSave 10% on Band Builder Academy membership by following this link https://bandbuilderacademy.com/Brian_Concerts/join and using promo code "concerts" at signup.
