Mark Logan, CEO of One Identity, sits down to share his story, explaining how he fit into different roles growing up in different companies. Mark has nearly two decades of C-Suite experience at an array of different organizations, finally landing on his current position as the CEO at One Identity. Sharing his different roles, he also gives a quote from Steve Jobs, saying "it's not what I say yes to, it's what I say no to." He believes that's a key area for his workers because when he is able to make up his mind, his team and his customers have someone they can rely on. Mark says that as a CEO he wants to share the advice of always marching towards your goals, and identifying that different people have different goals because they work in different fields, but that's what makes a company work best. He says "I've found that the more you can delegate, provided you've got the right folks in place the better." We thank Mark for sharing his story.

Denise Chaila - "CHAILA" from the 2020 album GO Bravely on narolane. Denise Chaila will be performing at this year's virtual Eurosonic (ESNS) Music Festival and Conference January 19-22 and has also been nominated for a Music Moves Europe Award. The past two years have been ones of extreme highs and lows for Zambian-Irish rapper Denise Chaila. On one hand, 2020 saw her release her debut full-length GO Bravely to rave reviews, prominent television performances, and a slew of nominations, leading her to become the highest ranking Irish woman in the country's charts that year. She then followed that up with November's five-song release It's A Mixtape that saw her boldly exploring new sonic territories to acclaim. At the same time, the giant push into the spotlight has led to an egregious amount of racism being thrown at the rapper on the internet. When GO Boldly won Chaila an RTÉ Choice Music Prize (the first time a mixtape has ever won the crown), the vitriol being aimed at Chaila in the comment sections was so disturbingly cruel that she asked RTÉ to stop tagging her in posts so that she wouldn't have to witness the abuse. “CHAILA,” our Song of the Day and the hit that made people start paying attention to the rapper, is a fun and clever jab at all the people that haven't been able to pronounce her name. “My name's not that hard to pronounce /Pre-K it's not profound,” she deadpans with a roll of her eyes. Watch the video for “CHAILA,” directed by Mark Logan, at the link below and catch Denise Chaila's virtual performance at Eurosonic (ESNS) Music Festival and Conference January 19-22. In the wake of major breaches over the last few months, organizations across industries are re-evaluating their cybersecurity strategies, with many realigning priorities to ensure their security team and technology solutions can meet the needs of an evolving threat landscape. Mark Logan, CEO of LogRhythm, talks about the importance of the CSO reporting directly to the CEO. Mark explains why this reporting structure demonstrates the value a company places on cybersecurity as an enabler of business performance at a time when cyber breach headlines are top of mind for the public and maintaining trust is crucial. Cybersecurity is now a board-level initiative for all companies, not just those in the software and security spaces. We talk about why enterprises that do not get on board with this shift in organizational structure that brings CSOs to the forefront could lose out on key talent. Perhaps more concerningly, they also stand to see a weakening of consumer trust and business value, especially if the organization ultimately experiences a damaging breach because security was not prioritized. Mark discusses how this reporting structure fosters trust among consumers and future business partners that security and data privacy are taken seriously and given the highest priority within the company. Episode #894 Friday, June 18, 2021 marked five years since we lost our friend and namesake artist, Paul MacLeod. This show started as an avenue for talented artists like Paul to get some of the exposure that they so deserve. Paul was a friend and an inspiration and like a lot of people, I miss him and wish he could still be here. I put together a tribute to Paul for my other show, Fly with your Shadow, which I hope you'll check out at flywithyourshadow.com or on the streaming service of your choice. Although that one was the longest episode of the show ever, I had much more left over, and it only seemed fitting that the tribute would spill over onto the show that he gave a name to. Today we'll hear from Andy Maize of Paul's former band Skydiggers, Jason Schneider, Mark Logan of Busted Flat Records, and Lynn Jackson. They'll tell you which of Paul's songs they loved the most and which of the hundreds of cover versions that he could perform were their favourites. I've been super busy with that, so not much time to look up new music or even get through my Record Store Day purchases, so not much on the new side here, but I did find a few. The big news of the week is the imminent return of live music in Winnipeg, as The Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club announced their outdoor summer concert series at Blue Note Park! That lineup of locals is stellar and well worth looking forward to, so I fit in as many highlights as I could today. I hope to see you there! playlist: https://wp.me/p1lizT-eq6

Paul MacLeod was a super talented singer/songwriter from Kitchener, Ontario. He built his reputation locally and regionally as a captivating solo performer who mixed great original songs alongside a vast and diverse repertoire of covers. He was first introduced to many of us nationally and internationally when he joined legendary, long-standing roots-rock band Skydiggers in the mid-90s. He had the difficult task of replacing founding and high-profile and much-loved member Peter Cash in the band, but he did so admirably, more than holding his own alongside the accomplished band. He brought a new edge, his acclaimed skill on the guitar, and powerful vocals. He would often open for the band, then join them for the headlining set. In addition to two Skydiggers studio albums and one live release, Paul released a great rock album with a band called Hibakusha, and four albums of his own. I took the name of his first CD for my campus and community radio show, Tell the Band to Go Home, which debuted in September, 2002. Paul was a guest on the show, and I got to know him a bit at shows and occasional correspondence. His music, wit, and energy inspired and amazed me. His albums are among my very favourites. Five years ago today, June 18, 2016, Paul took his own life. I was devastated. His music has been a mainstay on my radio show for almost 19 years. Along with John Bottomley, who I talked a lot about in episode 2 and episode 3 of this show, Paul's struggles and death contributed to my desire to further conversations about mental illness, and motivated me to create this show. I wanted to talk to some of his closest friends and get them to tell stories and remember Paul for the brilliant, creative, hilarious individual that he was. I wanted it to be honest and paint the full picture of what it was like to know Paul. It was a treat to speak to others who loved him and who miss him like I do. You'll hear more memories from my guests, and their favourite Paul MacLeod songs, and some of the songs that he covered, on the June 20 episode of Tell the Band to Go Home. Guests: Lynn Jackson - Kitchener singer/songwriter and close friend of Paul's. Find out more about her and find her music at https://lynnjackson.net/ Mark Logan - owner of Encore Records in Kitchener and of Busted Flat Records, the label that released Paul's last two albums, Bright Eyes Fade and Gauge. Mark was instrumental in Paul's career, as well as the careers of Shannon Lyon, Brock Zeman, Matt Andersen, and many more. He's an unsung hero of the Canadian music industry. Jason Schneider - these days, an in-demand publicist through his busy public relations agency, Jason Schneider Media, but a longtime music journalist and an accomplished author and musician. He was one of three musicians responsible for one of my favourite books of all time, and one that I refer to often, Have Not Been The Same: The CanRock Renaissance 1985-1995. Andy Maize - founding member and lead singer of Skydiggers, one of the most popular, accomplished, and longest-lasting bands in Canada. Their friends, colleagues, and contemporaries include Blue Rodeo, The Tragically Hip, and episode 16 guest Suzie Ungerleider. music credits and more info: https://flywithyourshadow.com/tribute-to-paul-macleod-w-andy-maize-skydiggers-jason-schneider-mark-logan-and-lynn-jackson-episode-17

Mark’s January 2019 article on medium.com, which he shared on LinkedIn, highlights research idealect conducted on charitable giving, and the results were very interesting. Distributed across genders, generations, and household incomes, the study discovers why people give their time and money to nonprofit organizations—locally and internationally. You might be surprised. In addition to the nature of giving, Mark and Christi geek out on the nature of happiness, Conscious Capitalism, single-payer healthcare, and more. As businesses grow, they hit key inflection points that mean the old tactics don't work anymore. The interplay of people, structures and process have to be updated as a startup develops and so you have to change how you and your people operate within your company. Mark gives very practical advice on how to recognize and survive these inflection points that increase frustration and reduce productivity. He explains how devolving decision making, growing your own people, encouraging them to look outside for inspiration and setting an expectation of world-class excellence maximizes the chances of surviving the organizational challenges that come with growth.
Back by popular demand, Mark Logan joins me to talk about why founders block their company's success if they don't learn how to manage their idea flow and communication processes. We explore how product market fit is necessary, but not sufficient, the MVP trap, how to surface bad news internally and why so many startups are in the process of failing slowly. Mark is former Skyscanner COO and IOD Director of the Year.
In this mini extra episode, Mark Logan, IOD Director of the Year and former Skyscanner COO advises a startup founder who asks whether the stress they are under is a normal part of the CEO job, or something more troubling. He explains that while moments of acute stress come with the CEO title, the problem is when these join up to become chronic. We shouldn’t live with that because while it might become normal, it is not sustainable. “Remember you didn’t start the company because you were after more stress in your life!" Mark Logan, former COO of Skyscanner and IOD Director of the Year joins Entrepreneur Agony Aunt Vicky Brock to tackle two reader questions. There s an old saying you can never be too rich or too thin. In New Orleans you might add, "And you can never produce too much alcohol." If you think there are more small craft breweries and distilleries here than ever before, well, you d be wrong. A hundred years ago there were many more. We ve been in a bit of a slump, but we re coming back. On this edition of Out to Lunch, Peter Ricchiuti meets local craft brewer Mark Logan from Second Line Brewing and local craft distiller Gus Haik from Cajun Spirits Distillery. By all kinds of standards Second Line may make better beer than Budweiser, and Cajun Spirits may make better rum than Bacardi, but those big guys are the reason all the small companies disappeared. And they are still who our local guys have to market against. How do you win on a playing field like that Gus and Mark spell it out. It ain t for the faint of heart or the lover of the straight 9 5 life, that s for sure. Photos at Commander s Palace by Alison Moon. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
