In his weekly YouTube appearance, Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise joins host Adam Bittner to analyze the Steelers' moves in NFL free agency. Was GM Omar Khan's early flurry of moves to acquire Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Patrick Queen and Donte Jackson via the Diontae Johnson trade enough heading into the NFL draft? Or should he have done more to address needs at tackle, center, receiver and cornerback to give the draft plan more flexibility? Did he box himself into needing to pick a right tackle like Amarius Mims, Tailese Fuaga or JC Latham in the first round? Or is he quietly more confident than the public about internal options like Dan Moore Jr., Darius Rush, Cory Trice and Nate Herbig? Our duo tackles those questions and more, including: How should manager Derek Shelton handle his closer situation with David Bednar struggling and Aroldis Chapman throwing well? How important is it for the club to get Jack Suwinski on track? What should we make of Andrew McCutchen's early struggles? And do we really need to see this Penguins team in the playoffs after a full season of depth players failing to meaningfully help stars including Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin? Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com. The Pittsburgh Steelers still need an inside linebacker, and the questions about Arizona Cardinals linebacker Isaiah Simmons are heating up. Will Omar Khan make the move to trade for Simmons? And what would it cost? Chris Carter and Alan Saunders weigh the Steelers' options and why it could be a perfect fit to complete the Steelers' roster before training camp. Also, Kevin Dotson's comments on Broderick Jones get addressed, as does the Steelers' offensive line depth questions. This might be the deepest the Steelers' offensive line has been going into a training camp in a decade. But that means interesting battles for Broderick Jones, Dan Moore Jr., Kevin Dotson, Nate Herbig, Kendrick Green and others. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Tony Serino of AFC North Talk. The Pittsburgh Steelers continue their Pro Day visits for top NFL Draft prospects, and a focus is clear at offensive tackle. Could Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan be preparing for a trade-up move to get one of this NFL Draft class' top offensive tackles? Tomlin had dinner with Ohio State's top three offensive line prospects in tackles Paris Johnson and Dawand Jones, as well as center Luke Wypler. The Steelers' best move might be trading back, but after moves to bring in Andy Weidl's guys in guards Issac Semaulo and Nate Herbig, could a top tier offensive tackle be the priority of this draft class over everything else? Also, will the Steelers draft a young edge rusher in the early rounds this year despite having T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith? Prospects like Nolan Smith and Will McDonald IV press that questions. Finally, Ben Roethlisberger said on his Footbahlin podcast that the San Francisco 49ers called him to see if he'd play for them in the NFC playoffs. Chris Carter and Tony Serino share their thoughts on that story.CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. This time, Omar Khan visited Iowa to take a closer look at defensive lineman Lukas Van Ness and linebacker Jack Campbell. Could those be the Steelers' top two picks in the draft? March 17, 2023 - Season 13, Episode 102 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this late Thursday night show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the first full day of the 2023 NFL league year that took place on Thursday that included the Pittsburgh Steelers agreeing to terms with yet another outside unrestricted free agent linebacker. We begin our discussion by passing along the Thursday news of the Steelers deciding to cut veteran inside linebacker Myles Jack after one season. We discuss the move in its totality, how much salary cap space was saved with that transaction, and more. The Steelers did agree to terms with inside linebacker Elandon Roberts, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, on Thursday, so we spend a lot of time discussing the tape we have both watched of him from the 2022 season. We go over what his signing would mean and what impact, if any, it might have on the position when it comes to the 2023 NFL Draft. Two newly signed Steelers, cornerback Patrick Peterson and guard Nate Herbig, held their introductory press conferences on Thursday so Alex and I discuss the key takeaways from those two media sessions in this show. The Steelers have now restructured the contract of safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, so we go over the details related to that move in this show. Additionally, the new contract numbers for safety Damontae Kazee surfaced while recording this episode so we make sure to pass those along. The Steelers were busy on the 2023 Pro Day circuit again on Thursday so as usual, Alex and I discuss who from the organization we spotted earlier in the day and where. We mix in other Steelers talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post.

Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Jenna Harner of WPXI-TV.The Pittsburgh Steelers cut linebacker Myles Jack and signed linebacker Elandon Roberts Thursday, creating a linebacker blowup. Only Mark Robinson remains as a backup for all the linebackers who played for the Steelers in 2022. What's the plan for Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin to re-shape the defense? Is a linebacker pick a guarantee with players like Clemson's Trenton Simpson, Arkansas' Drew Sanders, and Iowa's Jack Campbell in the NFL Draft plans for the Steelers? Also, new cornerback Patrick Peterson and guard Nate Herbig signed their contracts with the Steelers and spoke to media. Both seemed excited to fit in with the Steelers' locker room and Peterson spoke about leadership. Could that hint towards the Steelers' plans to draft an early cornerback like Illinois' Devon Witherspoon, Penn State's Joey Porter Jr., or Kansas State's Julius Brents?CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed linebacker Cole Holcomb Wednesday, adding to a free agency class with Patrick Peterson, Nate Herbig, Larry Ogunjobi, and Damontae Kazee. But when looking at the finances of these moves, what do they signal for Omar Khan's plans for the rest of free agency and the NFL Draft? The writing is on the wall.Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals made a big move to sign offensive tackle Orlando Brown to a huge contract to protect Joe Burrow. Reports show the Steelers made contact with Brown's camp. Does that mean the Steelers put a bid in for Brown? Or just kicked the tires? Either is a possibility, but if they actually were willing to pay a big deal and were just outbid, that could signify a big move could be coming soon in free agency. Finally, Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter's draft stock appeared to take another negative hit Wednesday as he failed to complete his pro day performance and appeared nine pounds overweight, while not looking to be in his best shape. Could he fall to the Steelers? Probably not, but if he drops a little bit, it could change the draft plans of other NFL teams picking ahead of the Steelers, and open up prospects that were thought to be too good to fall to the 17th overall pick in the first round when the Steelers can make their first selection.CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. March 15, 2023 - Season 13, Episode 100 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this late Tuesday night show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the second day of the annual NFL legal tampering period and how it included several more moves related to the Pittsburgh Steelers. We start by talking about the Steelers agreeing to terms with former New York Jets guard Nate Herbig earlier on Tuesday. We have both watched a little tape on Herbig since the news about him broke and we go over our notes on the former undrafted free agent out of Stanford. Later in the show, we go over the full contract details related to Herbig. The Steelers also reportedly re-signed safety Damontae Kazee and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi on Tuesday so Alex and I go over those decisions. We don't have the full contract details yet on both of those players but we do have some financials to pass along. We go over what the re-signings mean and more.Late Tuesday afternoon we learned that the Steelers will be losing inside linebacker Robert Spillane in free agency to the Las Vegas Raiders. We go over thar news in addition to the talking about the report that the Steelers made an attempt to sign inside linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, who ultimately re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys.Alex and I discuss the Steelers big hole in the Steelers' inside linebacker room exiting Tuesday and whether they'll fill it with an outside unrestricted free agent in the coming days.We move on to briefly talk about the Steelers' current salary cap situation and whether the team will create more space on Wednesday via either contract terminations or restructures. The Steelers were busy on the 2023 Pro Day circuit on Tuesday so Alex and I discuss who from the organization we spotted earlier in the day and where. We mix in other Steelers talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post.

Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Josh Taylor of KDKA-TV and 93.7 The Fan.The Pittsburgh Steelers made three moves Tuesday to re-sign Larry Ogunjobi and Damontae Kazee, solidifying the team's turnover emphasis for the defense. Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin appear to be keeping the key players to set a strong tone for the defense in 2023 and use the new focus of the defense with Patrick Peterson and Minkah Fitzpatrick to prioritize the ability to create turnovers to counter teams/quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, and Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. Also, who is Nate Herbig? He's a large offensive lineman who's good at run blocking and out of the past of Steelers front office man Andy Weidl. But can Herbig overtake Kevin Dotson at the left guard position? Finally, are the Steelers not acting fast enough to sign an off-ball linebacker? Azeez Al-Shair, Kyzir White and Leighton Vander Esch all signed with other teams, which leaves the Steelers with few options.
