En esta nueva emisión de #LasVocesDelLibroUR estuvimos hablando con Alexander L. Fattal, profesor asociado del Departamento de Comunicación de la Universidad de California (San Diego), y con Nelson Pájaro, educador barranquillero y líder comunitario, sobre el libro: Disparando cámaras para la paz. The issues began in 1968 when Gerard and Laura Goodin were living in the house and adopted their daughter Marcia. It was during this time period that the Goodin family insisted they could hear pounding noises from inside the walls, doors would slam shut on their own, and items would shift places. By 1974 the events had transpired enough that the media started to get involved. The house was drawing in attention not only from the aforementioned Ed and Lorraine Warren, but also the American Society for Psychical Research and the Psychical Research Foundation. The Goodin family were interviewed by police who were patrolling the area 24 hours a day. It was enough that public civilians began crowding the house and one person even attempted burning it down to the ground. Apparently this is even when the entity which reportedly haunted the house showed itself. As described by author Bill Hall, who wrote The World's Most Haunted House which includes details about the story via eyewitness reports: The entity “resembled a large, cohesive assemblage of smoky yellowish-white ‘gauzy' mist.” Aside from this, reports continue to get even crazier, with claims that even the family cat Sam would begin speaking and saying strange phrases like “Jingle Bells” or perhaps even more creepily, “Bye Bye.” As taken from the website Damned Connecticut, there was a story regarding the house. In the comments section one man named Nelson P. said he worked at the City Hall in 1974 when these events took place. He was reportedly able to see records of the incident at the Bridgeport Police Department. As he stated: “…we gained a copy of a written report by an officer who was present when the paranormal s*it hit the fan on Lindley St. The most chilling account was when in his writing ‘and the cat said to the officer “How's your brother Bill doing?, and the officer looked down and replied “My brother's dead.” The cat then scowled “I know” swearing repeatedly at the officer then ran off. Other visual events in the report include a levitating refrigerator and an armchair that flipped over and could not be lifted back into place by the officers. One officer who witnessed it all took an immediate leave of absence having been that shaken by the experience. I today firmly believe these events took place in the home.” It must be said, however, that most of these events seem to be the result of a clever hoax. Apparently one of the patrolling police officers at one point noticed the Goodins' adopted daughter, Marcia, attempting to tip over a television set with her foot. When she was caught in the act, she was questioned, and admitted to being the cause for all the “paranormal” events within the house. Nevertheless, the witness reports from the likes of law enforcement officers and other trusted individuals make for an interesting counter argument. Many claimed to have seen things when Marcia wasn't even in the house.

But when historical recollections devolve into myth the historian must become a revisionist and upset local legends to tell a story accurately. Such is the case of Willie Dickinson and Old Man Mudge in Florence. During his lifetime, Nelson P. Hulst was known as “America’s Greatest Iron Hunter.” Born in New York in 1842, in 1870 he accepted a position as chemist for the Milwaukee Iron Company and began hunting for iron ore deposits. He found nothing in the southern part of Wisconsin, so in 1872 he headed north and almost immediately discovered what became the Vulcan mine in the Menominee Range. As general superintendent for the Menominee Mining Company, Hulst developed mines at Norway, Quinnesec, Iron Mountain, and Florence. The latter was named for his wife, Florence Terry Hulst. In 1882, when the county was organized from parts of Marinette and Oconoto Counties, the

Call on Bernie Sanders to withdraw his call to overthrow the government of Venezuela. "Let me be very clear. Anyone who does what Maduro does is a vicious tyrant. We need international and regional cooperation for free elections so the Venezuelan people can create their own future." - Bernie Sanders, Democratic Debate Sunday September 12, 2019 Call his office today, Bernie Sanders: (202) 224-5141 also try 202-866 220 0044 which works well especially between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Pacific time to get to them during working hours, 9-5 in Eastern time zone Eric Mann thanks Voices listeners who called Senator Sanders to repudiate his position on Venezuela. Eric engages his critic who believes that his statement that Senator Sanders is calling for the overthrow of Venezuelan President Maduro is exaggerated and "fraudulent". Keep Calling Senator Sanders and demand he stop his call for the overthrow of the government of Venezuela. I was dismayed to find in my morning email the demand that Bernie Sanders "withdraw his call to overthrow the government of Venezuela." While there is reason to object to Sanders’s answer to moderator Jorge Ramos's question on why he refuses to call Nicholas Maduro a dictator, to conclude that Bernie made such a call to overthrow a government is fraudulent. Sanders in fact supports the opposite position. Rather than backing the U.S. practice of inserting a leader it "likes," he has never once deviated from his belief that it is the right of the people of Venezuela to decide what kind of government they want. People who took umbrage at Sanders’s remarks should call his office to complain. That is what a healthy democracy looks like. Sanders deserves to be called out for his erroneous profile of Venezuela, and many of us did not waste time to do so. On the morning after the debate, several of us contacted members of Sanders's team. We took the trouble to supply them with recent and reliable information, and forwarded articles and the names of informed sources for their further investigation. But loosely applied pejoratives like “vicious tyrant” cannot be criticized more than loosely applied pejoratives like “racist” and “lunatics.” As a point of fact, I have not identified myself as a Sanders supporter. I offer my comments in the strict belief that these important issues should be met with hard facts, not easy mockery. --Patricia Dahl As a Sanders supporter, I applaud your opinion on his position on Venezuela.
