After more than four decades of silence, Parabon Nanolabs and cutting-edge genetic genealogy are reigniting public interest in three men who were—separately and confusingly—all referred to as the ‘Freeway Killer': Patrick Kearney, William Bonin, and Randy Kraft. Kraft, convicted of 16 murders in California, is suspected of killing dozens more young men across the West Coast—often targeting Marines, hitchhikers, and teenagers. Many of his victims, if his infamous “scorecard” is to be believed, likely remain unidentified to this day.In this episode, we examine the recent identifications of Larry Eugene Parks and Michael Ray Schlict—both previously known only as John Does. Their cases, reopened thanks to advances in DNA technology and genetic genealogy, mirror the disturbing patterns seen in Randy Kraft's known crimes: victims hogtied, drugged, mutilated, and left near highways like I-5. We explore the haunting evidence that investigators believe may link Kraft to these cold cases—including personal belongings, drug traces, and the cryptic list of coded names that earned him his nickname: the “Scorecard Killer.”If you're drawn to forensic breakthroughs, unsolved murders, and the darkest corners of the 1970s and '80s true crime landscape, this case will stay with you.Visit our website! What I love about Buddhism is how it aligns with neuroscience (and how neuroscience proves that Buddhism is true). In this episode, I'm joined by Patrick Kearney. Patrick explains how the Buddha's teachings help us to understand and overcome addiction. He's particularly interested in the Buddha's original teachings before the invention of "Buddhism", and applying the Buddha's radical insights to our contemporary life. Patrick has practised mindfulness meditation since 1977 and spent several years as a Buddhist monk. A full-time mindfulness meditation teacher for over twenty years, Patrick conducts residential and online retreats, workshops, and seminars. For Patrick meditation as a physical practice that reconnects us with our senses and allows us to live life directly rather than through the cling wrap of our habitual thinking! In this episode, we discuss: Returning to the Buddha's original teachings before the invention of "Buddhism" Buddha's interest in human flourishing and asking, "How do we live well?" Having an addictive relationship is what the Buddha calls 'tanha', meaning thirst, clinging or craving (not good because it creates more pain) The four noble truths and the concept of dukkha (classically translated as 'suffering' but refers to all unsatisfactory experiences) Where there's addiction, there's craving; where there's craving, there's dukkha (suffering) The solution is to drop the craving because when the craving ceases, dukkha ceases... (easier said than done!) Patrick's past relationship with marijuana and coffee (he's not giving up coffee!) The simile of the second arrow to explain how we create more pain and suffering for ourselves Seeing Buddhism as a rational model for working with addiction and craving (once you understand the dynamics, you can do something about it!) How clinging to a sense of identity holds an addiction in place Why Buddha rejected fatalism (i.e., everything that happens is the will of God, a result of fate, or past causes) because if you believe any of them, you'll give up! Emotion as primary (we are not rational beings who feel, but feeling beings who reason) The more connected you are with your body, the better you can function; the more cut off you are, the less you can function (most of us have lost this skill!) The dangers of living in your head, how it's becoming more common and noticeably worse (probably all about the screens...) Addiction to thinking Meditation as a physical, not spiritual, practice Using meditation to live in the world more directly instead of using it to zone out and avoid unpleasant emotions Addiction is a habit, and habit is a choice, but it's so habitual we don't see it Going deeper into the mind, you see you have a choice, and freedom becomes real Our natural hesitation to meditate and dive into dukkha (our suffering) Why meditation is challenging when you're not living aligned to your values Mindfulness and seeing the results of your choices ('Oh, I thought this worked, but it doesn't!'). At the end of this podcast, we decided that Patrick, the Buddha, and I are all on a dukkha reduction project! We would love to know what stood out the most for you in this episode. From Robbie Ruinsburg The Trash Bag Killer – Patrick Kearney This episode explores the chilling case of Patrick Kearney, infamously known as the "Trash Bag Killer." Kearney was an American serial killer who operated in California during the 1970s, targeting young gay men. His modus operandi involved the brutal murder and dismemberment of his victims, who were often found stuffed into trash bags and discarded along highways. This gruesome practice not only earned him his notorious moniker but also underscored the horrific nature of his crimes. Kearney's background reveals a troubled childhood marked by bullying and trauma, which may have contributed to his violent tendencies. As a teenager, he began to fantasize about killing, with his first known victim being a hitchhiker he murdered in 1967. The podcast draws parallels between Kearney and other notorious serial killers, such as Jeffrey Dahmer, noting that while Dahmer sought to keep his victims alive for his twisted desires, Kearney preferred to kill quickly and then engage in necrophilia with the bodies. Three ghosts are said to reside there – including one who has performed onstage for the guests. (The Ghosts of Mounds Theater) *** Nurse Sarah Koten would take the abuse no longer – she was raped and impregnated by her boss and felt she had no other choice but to kill him. But how would the press and public see that in 1908 New York City? (It Was My Duty To Kill Him) *** He was born deformed, found fame as a side show attraction, even found love on the carnival circuit – but then Grady Stiles – the Lobster boy - turned as ugly on the inside as he was shocking to look at on the outside. (Grady Stiles: The Evil Lobster Boy) *** A dark bridge. A screaming baby. Apparitions in the night. The country is full of “crybaby bridge” legends, but is there any truth to the disturbing tales? (Legends Of Crying Babies Haunting Bridges) *** His IQ was that of a genius – but that didn't keep Patrick Kearney from murdering people and having sex with their corpses. (The Twisted Morality of an Evil Genius) *** A mother comes home from work to one more child than she expected. (We Call Her Abigail) *** Is it true that Jesus Christ once cursed a man to roam the earth, immortal, until His second coming? It could almost be the setup for a cliché horror movie if it wasn't real for one man. (Night Watcher) *** Insanity, tragedy, and death… and that's just the start of what you'll find at Loftus Hall, Ireland's most haunted residence. (Most Haunted House In Ireland) *** People around the world are reporting an odd phenomenon of walking and suddenly striking what can only be described an an invisible barrier, like a transparent wall. My special guest tonight is author Dennis McDougal who stops by to discuss serial killer Randy Kraft and how targeted gay men. Randy Kraft was highly intelligent, politically active, loyal to his friends, committed to his work--and the killer of 67 people--more than any other serial killer known. Randy Steven Kraft (born March 19, 1945) is an American serial killer and rapist known as the Scorecard Killer, the Southern California Strangler, and the Freeway Killer,[4] who committed the rape, torture, and murder of a minimum of sixteen young men between 1972 and 1983, the majority of whom he killed in California. Kraft is also believed to have committed the rape and murder of up to fifty-one other young men and boys. He was convicted in May 1989[5] and is currently incarcerated on death row at San Quentin State Prison in Marin County, California.[6] Kraft became known as the "Scorecard Killer" because upon his arrest, investigators discovered a coded list with 61 entries on a scorecard containing cryptic references to his victims;[7] he is also sometimes referred to as the "Freeway Killer" because many of his victims' bodies were discovered beside or near freeways.[8] Kraft shares the latter epithet with two separate and unrelated serial killers, William Bonin and Patrick Kearney. Between 1971 and 1983, Kraft is believed to have killed 67 victims. All of his suspected victims were males between the ages of 13 and 35,[13][35] the majority of whom were in their late teens to mid-twenties. Kraft was charged with—and convicted of—sixteen of these homicides, all of which had occurred between 1972 and 1983. Many of his victims were members of the United States Marines Corps,[36] and most of their bodies were found to have high levels of both alcohol and tranquilizers, indicating they had been unconscious when they were abused and killed.[37] Kraft's victims were typically lured into his vehicle with an offer of a lift or alcohol. Once in Kraft's vehicle, the victims would be plied with alcohol and/or other drugs. They were then bound, tortured, and sexually abused before they were killed, usually by either strangulation, asphyxiation, or bludgeoning. However, some victims had also ingested lethal doses of pharmaceuticals. At least one victim was stabbed to death.[38] The victims would then be discarded, usually—though not exclusively—alongside or close to various freeways in southern California. Photographic evidence found at Kraft's home indicates several of his victims were driven to his house before their murder.[39] Many of the victims were burned with a car cigarette lighter, usually around the genitals, chest, and face, and several were found with extensive blunt force trauma to the face and head.[40] In several instances, foreign objects were found inserted into the victims' rectums, while other victims had suffered emasculation, or mutilation and dismemberment.[41] The majority of Kraft's murders were committed in California, although some victims had been killed in Oregon, with two further known victims murdered in Michigan in December 1982.Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio

Patrick Kearney got picked on a lot as a child growing up in southern California. Perhaps this was because he enjoyed killing pigs and copulating with domestic animals. It just got weirder from there, as Kearney racked up murder after murder before finally being caught. This week we investigate the life and crimes of one of the Freeway Killers. Patrick Kearney, the Trash Bag Killer, was convicted for 21 murders, confessed to 32, but is suspected of up to 43 killings of both boys and young men between 1962 and 1977 in Southern California. Lesser known then the other Freeway Killers, previous Suck subjects Randy "Scorecard Killer" Kraft and William "The Freeway Strangler" Bonin, Patrick Kearney at first appears less brutal than his murderous counterparts. And in a way he was. He never tortured his victims... while they were alive. His primary motivation seems to have been necrophilia. But in another way, he was worse than the other two killers, because his victims tended to be younger. One victim was only five years old. Another depraved serial killer chapter is written in Timesuck's book of true crime today. Wet Hot Bad Magic Summer Camps are ON SALE! Why so many Serial Killers all at the same time in one city? Between 1977 and 1987 the metropolis of Los Angeles had at least eight separate Serial Killers operating all at the same time. Many of us remember the so-called Freeway Killer and immediately think of William Bonin who left the bodies of 21 young men strewn along the freeways. However, many people have forgotten that there were two other Freeway Killers all operating in the same area at the same time. Their names were Patrick Kearney and Randy Kraft and they killed over 50 young men and dump their bodies near streets, highways and alleys.During this time period women in the Los Angeles area may have felt safe from the Freeway Killers, but it wasn't long after that the Hillside Strangler was littering the hillsides with bodies of young women. Shortly thereafter the Tool Box Killers picked up teenage girls at the beach and scattered their dead bodies in the local mountains where the wild life devoured their corpses. Simultaneously The Sunset Strip Killer was picking up young women walking the streets of Hollywood only to have their dead bodies discarded next to portable toilets.By 1985, both men and women didn't feel safe in Los Angeles with so many Serial Killers roaming the community. Then the double whammy occurred when the Nightstalker viciously struck and paralyzed everyone with fear in his murderous crime spree. If that wasn't enough mayhem, at the same time the Southside Slayers were methodically raping and callously strangling women along the route to LAX.The author has a unique insight on all these Serial Killer cases since he worked on many of the cases or had personal contact with the prosecutors who tried those cases. In this book he shares information and photos on these vicious murders much of which the public has never heard or seen before. For the first time he collectively reviews each of these distinctive Serial Killers revealing what caused these individuals to continually kill people for so many years. The author next discusses the unique conditions that existed in the Los Angeles area that turned out to be a breeding ground for all these Serial Killers. The big question becomes what happened to all these Serial Killers that terrorized the City of the Angels. This unbelievable period of ten years left permanent scars on the psychic of every Angelino who endured such trepidation.Even though the Golden Era of the Serial Killers of Los Angeles has faded into history it still remains vivid in the minds of those who lived through those scary times. Finally this book spells out the blueprint as to what needs to be done to assure that there will never be another Serial Killer of Los Angeles.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Randy Kraft might just be the most brutal and prolific serial killer you've never heard of. Convicted of sixteen murders, prosecutors felt they had enough evidence to charge him with forty-five killings. Most now assume he killed at least 67 victims. And he did so horrifically. A true sexual sadist, Randy targeted young men and boys from 1971 to 1983, removing the genitals of many of his victims BEFORE killing them. Today we cover his life from the beginning to sitting in a prison cell in San Quentin today. The Scorecard Killer still refuses to take responsibility for the many horrific crimes he committed. And his crimes were truly horrific. In addition to emasculation, Randy cut, burned, and used foreign objects to sodomize victim after victim before strangling most of them. And no one in personal life, before he was caught, seemed to think he was capable of any violence. This week we're staying on a summery theme with hitchhiker murders! These cases include more than one serial killer, lots of teenagers (very unfortunately), and a cold case solved after 40 years by one of Cindy's friends (in part 2, so come back in a few days and check it out)!!These cases will show you just how dangerous it is to hitchhike, and also, how common it was, especially in the 70's. Cindy was in very real danger of becoming a never born person when her own father was picked up by a creepy guy in a pickup truck in the early 70's - luckily he jumped out in the knick of time, but sadly, many youths just like him were not so lucky. We cover some of these horrible, cautionary tales, not just because it's a great topic, but to remind you to walk, take the bus, or drive yourself, but in the interest of staying off our lists, don't ever, ever hitchhike!!!Check out our website! www.twistedlisterpod.comBrought to you by Podmoth Media Network podmoth.networkJoin us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/twistedlistersFollow us on Instagram: @twistedlisterspcastTiktok: @twistedlistersWant to start a podcast? For their Pride Month episode, Eric was on the hunt for a true crime special that impacted the gay community, but what he turned up was a case with shocking parallels to a gruesome unsolved murder your hosts have been trying to draw attention to for years. In season 5, episode 7 of WORLD'S MOST EVIL KILLERS, entitled Patrick Kearney, a man claims to be solely responsible for the gruesome murder and dismemberment of more than thirty young men over many years. But what about his partner, the man he's lived with for more than a decade? When warrants are issued for both men, they go on the run together. But when Kearney's partner isn't charged and is promptly set free, it raises more questions. One in particular for your hosts.
From Robbie Ruinsburg The Trash Bag Killer – Patrick Kearney Patrick Kearney was an American serial killer who, in the 1970s, preyed on young, gay men in California. He became known as the Trash Bag Killer, because he packaged the dead, mutilated bodies of his victims in garbage bags before tossing them along the highways. William Bonin is a little known serial killer who died via lethal injection in 1996 in San Quentin, after sitting on California's death row for over a decade. Surprising that he isn't more well known considering how shocking his crimes were. He was only active as a serial killer for a year, from May of 1979 to June of 1980, but he would be convicted of fourteen murders. And law enforcement was certain he killed at least another seven victims. All boys and young men. All bound, beaten, sodomized, and strangled. Bill, in his early 30s at the time of the murders, talked his victims into getting into his "death van," a Ford Econoline campervan he customized for rape and murder. He had the windows covered up in the back, and he removed the rear interior handles. And he stashed nylon cords to tie up his victims, plus knives and other torture devices. And he usually didn't work alone. He worked with not one - but four different accomplices during his murder spree. And he was one of three "Freeway Killers" active in the Los Angeles and Orange County area in the 1970s. It's another wild true crime tale on Timesuck today! Patrick Kearney terrorized California for 12 years as a serial killer with necrophilic tendencies. Dubbed the Trash Bag Killer and The Freeway Killer, his victims range from 21-43. Unfortunately, due to his method of disposal we will never know not only the identities of some victims but also the scope of his crimes. Have you ever known someone on the fringes of your own social scene? Been friends with them, but maybe never gotten beyond casual acquaintance? I’ve know Josh Netsky for over 10 years, but sort of at a distance. In my previous band I would often see Josh at shows or at random places where his band was playing. Josh is the lead singer and songwriter of the Rochester band Maybird, who has had some notable success in music. Not least of which, was touring with Portugal. The Man, signing to 30th Century Records and Recording an EP with Patrick Kearney of The Black Keys. Josh and I talk about Rochester, Syracuse, water park concerts and the merits of Myspace.
See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Happy Pride one and all! And what better way to celebrate the LGBT community than talking about our killer queen Aileen and sexy leather daddy Patrick Kearney. Taylor and Katie give a call to action for the lesbians of the world, and as usual, burst into song at the most random times. This episode is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Pulse shooting, as well as anyone who lost their life because of who they loved. If it's Twisted will always be a safe zone for those who need it.
Kearney had a specific MO that he cultivated and followed for most of his 15 year career as a serial killer. He would get an unsuspecting victim in his car, quickly shoot them while he was driving, then commit necrophilia. After he was done, he would drain the blood, dismember the corpse and wrap the body parts in garbage bags which he would leave along the roadways of California. But like many killers, as the years went on, his process devolved as he became sloppy and impatient. During this time he also held a high paying job as an aeronautical engineer, working for an aircraft company owned by the famous Howard Hughes. Patrick would have this position until he would eventually flee California as the police closed in on him.Social Media: @killerjobspodPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/killerjobsMerchandise: https://killerjobspodcast.threadless.com( 100% of all money from the show’s Patreon & merchandise sales are donated to the St. Louis Crisis Nursery, in addition to a monthly donation from advertising revenue. https://www.crisisnurserykids.org )

Two first-term legislators who tried unsuccessfully last week to change the way the speaker is selected say the fight for rules reform in the House is far from over. Rep. Maria Robinson of Framingham and Rep. Patrick Kearney of Scituate said on the Codcast that a broader rules reform package is in the works, and one of their chief concerns is with the way rules are routinely suspended in the House.
On today’s episode I had the privilege of chatting with Tariq Harb who was visiting his family in Jordan. Tariq is a classical guitarist who currently lives in Toronto, Canada and was mentored by greatest musician such as: Roddy Ellias, Patrick Kearney, Jerome Ducharme, Dr. Garry Antonio and Dr. Jeffrey McFadden just to name a few. He has won first prizes in many classical guitar contests and currently he has been recognized as a versatile musician. We chatted about Agustin Barrios, his guitars, his techniques, and music background. Tariq will be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 1, 2017 and I am hoping to see him there and greet him. Having Tariq on my podcast was a privilege and I hope I could pay back, someday, this wonderful experience I had with him on my podcast. As a musician enthusiast I wish I could be his student. He is a top notch classical guitarist.

Randy Kraft would be dubbed as "The Scorecard Killer" for the record keeping that he would keep on his victims including codes he listed beside entries. Police believe that Kraft may be responsible for over 60 murders of men in the California area in the 70s and 80s. Kraft is also part of police have called "The Freeway Killers", 3 serial killers operating in similar areas, with similar MOs, and overlapping in the times that they killed. Patrick Kearney that we profiled in our last episode was another of "The Freeway Killers".Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the magnitude of the crimes committed by Randy Kraft. His number of victims is astonishing but the way that he murdered these men is even more astonishing. Police had their hands full during this period of time in California trying to figure out why so many men were being targeted and murdered. It's incredible to know that that there were 3 different individuals who were committing such twisted murders, preying on men in a similar way and in essentially the same area. You can help support the show by going to patreon.com/truecrimeallthetimeVisit the show's website at truecrimeallthetime.com for contact and merchandise informationPlease help support our sponsor Hunt A Killer, the subscription service that allows you to immerse yourself in pouring through the clues of a case in order to solve it. SCARY MYSTERIES - TWISTED TWO's: “The Freeway Killer” & “The Smurls Poltergeist” 1. Patrick Kearney "The Freeway Killer" Being the oldest often means being more responsible and knowing how to be a role model for younger siblings, but in the case of Patrick Kearney, he was far from a model big brother. Born in Los Angles in 1939, growing up Kearney was a gangly, awkward teen. As a result, his peers often bullied him and Kearney became withdrawn – often fantasizing about killing those that treated him badly. After moving around a bit and a brief failed marriage, he moved back to his home state of California, where he finally turned his morbid fantasies into reality. It was the mid 1960’s and one after another, the bodies of ten men were found ditched along the freeways. All of them males, left naked and all were shot in the head. Some of the bodies had been cut into pieces and stuffed inside heavy-duty trash bags and nearly all of them belonged to the local gay community. One victim was 17-year old, John LaMay – detectives traced the victim's whereabouts prior to his murder and discovered he was last seen with two other people, Patrick who was 37 at the time and now an electronic engineer at Hughes Aircraft Co., and his lover and roommate 34 year old David Hill,. 1. The Smurls Poltergeist Originally from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Jack and Janet Smurl had to move out and relocate to a new house after Hurricane Agnes devastated their home in 1972. Jack's parents, John and Mary, recently bought a new home in West Pittston, it was a duplex and the arrangement was for John and Mary to live on the right half while Jack, Janet and their four daughters, Dawn, Heather and later on twins Shannon and Carin, stay in the left half. The home was a bit of fixer-upper so the family spent time remodeling, it and For the first 18-months everything seemed quiet. But then in January of 1974, the Smurls began noticing odd things in the home. Previously fixed water pipes would keep leaking even though a plumber had fixed them and an unusual stain appeared on a new carpet seemingly without any cause. Toilets would flush at random even without anyone using them and one evening the television set burst into flames. Additionally the family found scratches on the bathtub, sink and woodwork as if some sort of animal had gouged it. So there were a pair of some of the most mysterious and sinister true stories around. The world can be a crazy place and Twisted Two’s is sure to show you why.
