Small Stories, Big Impact: How to Create Instant Connection with Your Podcast ✅ Free coaching call: PodcastPerformanceCoach.com ✅ Podcast Tune-Up Program: PodcastPerformanceCoach.com/podcast-tune-up Think you need an epic hero's journey to make your podcast memorable? Think again. In this episode, I'm breaking down why small, everyday stories — the kind that take 30 seconds to tell — can be even more powerful than an elaborate narrative. Micro-stories trigger memories, spark emotion, and make your content stick. They're faster to tell, easier for your audience to connect to, and (bonus!) they make you way more relatable. Here's what we cover: Why micro-stories work better than you think for business podcasts How a quick real-life moment creates visuals, emotions, and trust Why listeners remember shared human experiences (not facts and features) The secret connection between storytelling, memory, and client conversion How short stories can make your lessons land without feeling “salesy” And yes, I'm sharing a real (and slightly embarrassing) story about how I once got kicked off Apple Podcasts. Yep, even podcast coaches have rookie mistakes. (And yep, it made me a better podcaster — and coach.) If you've ever felt like storytelling was too big, too complicated, or just out of reach for your podcast — this episode will show you how simple it can be. Because your audience doesn't need an epic. They just need you to be real. Need help making your podcast more relatable and lead-generating? There's no shortage of advice to be found on how to grow your audience. But how closely does that advice align with how podcast listeners say they actually find, choose (and abandon) the shows they listen to? It turns out, there are a number of surveys that have asked listeners to share their discovery and consumption habits. And while the data can sometimes contradict itself, it offers us as creators a peek behind the curtain into podcast listeners' hidden psychology, so that we can better meet them where they're at with our marketing and our shows. What's more, this data offers us a blueprint for the questions to ask (and avoid) when conducting our own listener research.

Why do people listen to podcasts? And why do they listen to YOUR podcast (or one like yours)? It turns out, the answers to these questions can be found in a nerdy, obscure marketing concept called Jobs to Be Done Theory. Jobs to Be Done Theory origins date back to the 1930s, but was more fully developed by Harvard Business School researched Clayton Christiansen—primarily through an iconic case study about milkshakes… and how people don't buy milkshakes for the obvious reasons you might think. But JTBD applies to much more than milkshakes. In fact, it applies to every product, service, piece of content—including podcasts—that any of us spend time, money, or attention to consume. In this episode, we'll break down how to apply JTBD theory to boost the effectiveness of your marketing by aligning your content, messaging, and packaging with the job your listeners are seeking out a show to do.

I'm over the moon excited for today's conversation because we have a special encore guest joining us — the absolutely brilliant Dia Bondi. If you're meeting Dia for the first time, here's what you need to know — she works with senior leaders, founders, and ambitious professionals to help them find their voice and lead with it. She's helped her clients secure hundreds of millions of dollars in decisions and resources that have shaped the future of their teams and businesses. Back in Episode 143, I shared how my Predictive team and I first experienced Dia's magic — watching her absolutely command the stage at the Build a Better Agency Summit in 2023. She had the entire room hanging on every word, and it was clear she had mapped a specific path for her audience. Every single piece of that keynote was intentionally framed. It was powerful, it was masterful, and in that episode, Dia and I broke down exactly how she did it. We ran out of time though, before we could dig into something big — The Platform Map. That is the focus of this conversation. Joining is our Director of Strategy and Mad Scientist, Hannah Roth. Hannah was in that same audience, experiencing Dia's keynote in real time, and when I asked if she'd be game to join this encore, I barely finished my sentence before she said, “YES!!!” If you take what Dia shares about Purpose, Providence, Point of View, and Principles — and how they all come together in The Platform Map — you'll be able to build stronger rapport with your right-fit prospects — and make it easy for them to see why they should buy from you. What you will learn in this episode: How to cultivate the courage to speak from the heart and become a masterful communicator Why aligning your authentic voice with your business strategy is key to leadership success The power of using a framework — like the Platform Map — to develop a distinctive leadership voice How your origin story and accomplishments serve as evidence of your unique voice How you can join Dia for her next virtual session to develop your Platform Map Resources: Website: https://www.diabondi.com/ LinkedIn Personal: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dia-bondi/ LinkedIn Business: https://www.linkedin.com/company/dia-bondi/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/diabondia/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@diabondi The Transformational Voice Intensive: https://www.diabondi.com/intensive Resources for Podcast Listeners: https://www.diabondi.com/swa Ask Like An Auctioneer: https://www.diabondi.com/book How to Master the Perfect Ask, with Dia Bondi
