Americans have a responsibility to be civically engaged in their communities and when it comes to solving social challenges, faith-based communities have the best track record, according to Stacy Blakeley, the CEO of The Policy Circle. During a study examining the foster care and refugee crises today, The Policy Circle, a nonprofit dedicated to encouraging civic engagement, discovered that “faith-based groups [be they Christian, Jewish, or other] had a remarkable ability to solve for the social challenges in our communities,” Blakeley tells "The Daily Signal Podcast." This begs the question, according to Blakeley, why are faith communities “so much more effective, for instance, than a government program?” That question led The Policy Circle to launch the Faith and Civic Life Initiative to explore the role religious organizations can, and should, play in addressing some of America's greatest challenges. The new initiatives kicks off Monday with an event at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., with Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin. Blakele joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to share the unique mission and history of The Policy Circle and how Americans across the country can take part in the Faith and Civic Life Initiative.

Stacy Blakeley is the CEO of The Policy Circle, a national organization that informs, equips, and connects women to be more impactful citizens. Founded in 2015 on the belief that the free market is the best means to unleash human potential, the organization has grown to include 15,000 members in all lower 48 states. The Policy Circle has built a proven model to boost civic literacy and equips its members to lead at the local, state, and national levels through solutions-oriented programming and approachable training. Stacy is a noted public speaker who engages audiences in constructive dialogue and inspires citizens to take action in their communities as positive change-makers. Throughout Stacy's appearance on Next Steps Forward, she will discuss The Policy Circle's advice to women to “be more curious and less furious” and it's work to help women do just that, as well as why civil discourse and civic engagement is so crucial in today's society, why The Policy Circle focuses its efforts on getting women involved in public policy and debate due to wealth transfer, women out-voting men and women only holding one-third of elected positions; and the two gaps in politics and policy that the organization is concerned about, which includes the confidence gap and the competence gap. For those audience members who are looking to become leaders in their communities and develop skills and qualities needed to do so, this is a conversation that you won't want to miss!

In this episode of the Trust Your Voice podcast, host Sylvie Légère sat down to review a brief and topic covered by The Policy Circle, refugee crisis. Sylvie walks through this topic that can feel rather difficult to navigate and understand, by giving listeners insight into: Sylvie's “Lens of Care” and personal lens at looking at the refugee crisis International Laws and Definitions around refugees - United Nations Refugee Convention (1951) Definition of Asylum Seekers Role of US Federal Government Role of Congress - judiciary committees Executive Branch & United States Refugee Admissions Program Refugee Act of 1980 established formal refugee and asylum programs in the U.S., and brought U.S. law into greater alignment with the UN Refugee Convention. Difference between Refugee and Asylum Seekers Special Immigrant Visas (interpreters) - and Humanitarian Parole “allows an individual to be in the United States for a temporary period for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit.” Process for specific individuals who have met humanitarian priorities - Refugees (P1), Asylum Seekers have 2 paths - Affirmative Asylum Processing with USCIS or Defensive Asylum Processing with EOIR Management and funding of refugee-related programs and services comes from the federal government, implementation is the responsibility of states and localities PRIVATE SECTOR - Federal, state, and local governments rely on non-governmental partners to provide resettlement assistance and services to arriving refugees. During this month, we covered so many important topics surrounding Freedom. But what they all came back to USING YOUR VOICE to be the change you want to see in the world. And one of the best examples of that is VOTING. Voting is an opportunity to make meaningful change - an opportunity that we're so lucky to have here in America. So how are you going to use that opportunity to make an impact? Making an impact can come in so many forms… Whether it be voting, lobbying, running for office, volunteering, or just standing up for what you believe in. But what alllll those things have in common is key: Policy. The Policy Circle is a nonprofit organization that helps you take ownership of what you want to change so that you can make a real impact. And during our freedom event SheVotes, we hosted a Policy Circle of our own… So follow along with us as we dive into the topic of VOTING. The election is only 34 DAYS AWAY… so how are you going to use those days? EPISODE RESOURCES: ☑️ Make sure you're registered to vote HERE.
As Thomas Jefferson remarked to James Madison, “Educate and inform the whole mass of the people…They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.” Yet the U.S. Constitution does not address education directly, and there is much disagreement around how we, as a nation, should ensure both the quality and equality of our education system. The Policy Circle brief up for discussion this week is Education K-12, and Sylvie and Beth tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our education system. Do we need a Federal Department of Education, or should the question of how best to educate children be left entirely to the states? How should educational funding be spent, and how can we ensure equity in the distribution of that funding? Why do our national test scores rank so far behind other countries? How can we, as individual citizens, help fix these and other problems in our educational system? We hope you'll read along, and start a discussion of your own.
