It's Wednesday, May 22nd, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Russians killed 30 Ukrainian pastors & destroyed 600 churches Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Christians, and especially Evangelicals in Ukraine, have faced persecution from Russian forces. Time magazine reports persecution incidents where Russians killed over 30 Ukrainian pastors, destroyed 600 Ukrainian church buildings, and over 100 cases of Russians who initiated interrogations, expulsions, or imprisonments. Protestants experienced 34% of the persecution incidents. For example, Azat Azatyan, a Baptist children's pastor, faced torture and over a month in captivity. He said, “[This is] what the Kremlin fears about Protestants: we follow God's law, not theirs. But they want to have everything under their control.” In Acts 5:29, the Apostles said, “We ought to obey God rather than men.” Only 35% of Brits think religion is “good for society” The Institute for the Impact of Faith in Life released a report on religious attitudes in the United Kingdom. The report found only 36% of adults believe that religion is good for society. Forty-seven percent believe politicians should not speak about religion. However, 62% of respondents did agree that Christian heritage is important to the United Kingdom. And young adults appear to be more religious. Sixty-nine percent of 18- to 24-year-olds believe their faith significantly impacts their lives, compared to 51% of those over 65. U.K. teachers prohibited from indoctrinating with “gender identity” The U.K. released new restrictions on school content regarding Relationships, Sex, and Health Education. The new guidelines ban teachers from covering such content for children under nine. Teachers also cannot introduce young students to the "contested theory of gender identity.” This new guidance stated, “In light of the Cass Review, it is important that schools take a cautious approach to teaching about this sensitive topic and do not use any materials that present contested views as fact, including the view that gender is a spectrum.” The government also said that parents can see what resources schools are using on these subjects. 65% of Americans say inflation made lives worse In the United States, the Federal Reserve released its Economic Well-Being of US Households report for 2023. Seventy-two percent of adults said they were doing okay financially, down from 78% in 2021. Sixty-five percent of respondents also said inflation made their financial lives worse, and 19% said inflation made it much worse. Half of adults said were living paycheck to paycheck, and 17% said they could not pay their monthly bills. Biden released one million barrels of gas Speaking of inflation, the Biden administration is trying to tackle gas prices. The Energy Department announced yesterday the release of one million barrels of gasoline from the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve. In March, Congress passed a spending deal that required the reserve to be sold off and closed. Biden's beef with pro-lifers The Biden administration is also tackling pro-lifers. Already, the administration has put a dozen pro-life advocates in prison. On Monday, the Justice Department filed suit against seven pro-lifers and two pro-life groups, Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and Red Rose Rescue. The Department accuses them of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. Monica Miller with Citizens for a Pro-Life Society said, “We have every confidence that through our great attorneys we will prevail over this bogus attempt by the weaponized [DOJ] to drag [pro-life groups] under its persecution of those who seek to defend the unborn from violence.” Louisiana wants to require schools display the Ten Commandments Louisiana may become the first state to require all publicly-funded schools, colleges, and universities to display the Ten Commandments. House Bill 71 requires schools to “display the Ten Commandments in each building it uses and every classroom under its jurisdiction.” The state's House and Senate approved the bill this year. The House must give final approval before it heads to the desk of Republican Governor Jeff Landry. Deuteronomy 6:6-9 says, “These words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children. … You shall bind them as a sign on your hand. … You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Christian teacher, who refused fake pronouns, wins $360,000 settlement And finally, a Christian teacher won a $360,000 settlement last week from a California school district in a religious freedom case. Jessica Tapia taught at the Jurupa Unified School District. The district required her to address students by incorrect, non-biologically accurate pronouns. Plus, she was told not to express her religious beliefs to students through social media. The district terminated Jessica after she refused to comply. So, Advocates for Faith and Freedom stepped in to defend her. After the settlement, Jessica said, “What happened to me can happen to anybody, and I want the next teacher to know that it is worth it to take a stand for what is right.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Wednesday, May 22nd, in the year of our Lord 2024. Since we covered the shocking FBI raid of pro-lifer, Mark Houck, over a supposed violation of the FACE Act last year, a growing number of pro-lifers are being prosecuted by the DOJ using FACE. This week, we talk with Jonathan Darnel, one of the 24 people currently charged with violating FACE, about the re-emergence of the rescue movement and its role in the abortion battle, the value of civil disobedience, and why F.A.C.E should be abolished. This week on The Open Door (June 14 th ), panelists Jim Hanink, Mario Ramos-Reyes, and Valerie Niemeyer discuss the ongoing pro-life struggle. There's much to consider. We'll explore the role of nonviolent direct action. In addition, we'll tackle the question of the personhood of the pre-born human being. Of late, Pope Francis has commented on this question. Our special guest is Monica Migliorino Miller. She has recently been released from jail; her “crime” was taking part in a Red Rose Rescue. Miller holds graduate degrees in Theology from Loyola University and Marquette University and teaches theology at SacredHeart Major Seminary in Detroit. She is the author of The Theology of the Passion of the Christ (Alba House), The Authority of Women in the Catholic Church (Emmaus Road), and Abandoned: The Untold Story of the Abortion Wars (St. Benedict Press). Miller's article “It's Time the Church Declared the Personhood of the Unborn” appears in the May issue of the New Oxford Review.1. Could you tell us about the Red Rose Rescue that landed you in jail?2. Does today's widespread acceptance of abortion express what Hannah Arendt famously called “the banality of evil”?3. What is your message for people who are thinking about joining a rescue action?4. Pope Francis affirms that the unborn baby is a human being but seems hesitant aboutacknowledging that he or she is a person. Why?5. Just what is ensoulment?6. Could you comment on Boethius's definition of a person as an individual substance of a rational kind?7. You note Vatican II's teaching that abortion, among other grave wrongs, “violates theintegrity of the human person.” Has this language been forgotten?8. St. John Paul II, in his encyclical Evangelium Vitae, teaches that “to kill a human being,”as abortion does, “in whom the image of God is present, is a particularly serious sin.” Heteaches as well that “Disregard for the right to life, precisely because it leads to thekilling of the person whom society exists to serve, is what most directly conflicts with the possibility of achieving the common good.” Is this teaching sufficiently authoritative to establish the personhood of the unborn?9. Isn't every human being a person?10. What steps might we take to urge that the Church dogmatically recognize the personhood of the unborn human being?

A daily news briefing from Catholic News Agency, powered by artificial intelligence. Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - A Catholic priest who blocked access to a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic could face up to one year in prison after being found guilty Monday of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, also known as the FACE Act. On the morning of July 7, 2022, Father Fidelis Moscinski, 52, a priest of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, effectively shut down the Planned Parenthood of Greater New York clinic in Hempstead for about two hours using padlocks, chains, and his own body, according to the DOJ. On Monday, the court delivered a guilty verdict from the bench. Sentencing is scheduled for April 24. Moscinski has garnered media attention in recent years for his prayerful protests in the face of pro-abortion opposition and his work with the group Red Rose Rescue. Some members of the pro-life community commended Moscinski for his actions at the abortion clinic and criticized those who would put him behind bars. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253450/priest-found-guilty-of-blocking-entrance-to-abortion-clinic-faces-one-year-in-prison In the wake of yet another mass shooting in California, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone released a statement Monday reminding people of the frailty of human life. “The recent shootings in Monterey Park and now in Half Moon Bay remind us of how fragile human life is, but also how precious human life is,” the archbishop said in the statement posted on the archdiocese's website. “We must never take human life for granted. We must never take out our aggressions and our frustrations on others, especially in any form of violence.” Seven farmworkers were killed and one was critically injured after a gunman opened fire Monday afternoon at two separate nurseries in Half Moon Bay, California, about 30 miles south of San Francisco. The 67-year-old suspect, Chunli Zhao, is thought to have worked at one of the farms and is believed to have acted alone, NBC Bay Area news reported. He was taken into custody without incident later that afternoon. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253445/never-take-human-life-for-granted-archbishop-cordileone-says-after-second-mass-shooting Today, the Church commemorates the conversion of St. Paul. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/conversion-of-st-paul-127

A majority of Catholics (58%) feel that Biden should not run for a second term in 2024, while only 22% support a possible re-election bid; 19% of Catholics are not sure. At Mass one morning, he heard the Gospel reading in which Christ instructed the apostles to go forth without money, shoes, or extra clothing. This way of life soon became a papally-approved rule, which would attract huge number of followers within Francis' own lifetime.Through his imitation of Christ, Francis shared in the Lord's sufferings. He miraculously received Christ's wounds, the stigmata, in his own flesh during September of 1224. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-francis-of-assisi-614

CUW rose 23 places this year, even after moving into the more competitive “national universities” category due to a growing portfolio of doctoral programs. The ranking considers a total of 17 indicators, including test scores, retention rates, mission allegiance and alumni engagement. Concordia Ann Arbor has a new program In a related story, the Academic Resource Center of Concordia University, Ann Arbor (CUAA), Mich., has launched Destination Cardinal, a summer “bridge” program geared primarily toward first-generation or low-income students. Students will begin the program the summer before they officially start at CUAA in order to ease the transition from high school to college. The program is also open to students who are already enrolled at CUAA and has proven useful for many this year as they navigate academics during COVID-19. LGBT advocacy group lobbying against Christian schools The nation's largest LGBT advocacy group is urging the future Biden administration to help pull the accreditation of Christian colleges and schools if they don't have a policy prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Human Rights Campaign posted its goals for the Biden administration in a Nov. 11 document, “Blueprint for Positive Change.” The 22-page brief includes dozens of objectives for the Biden White House, but its targeting of Christian institutions would have a major impact on religious schools. Under a current law known as the Higher Education Opportunity Act, accrediting agencies are told to ensure their standards "respect the stated mission of the institution of higher education," including a school's "religious" mission. Forcing abortion coverage again goes to court Attorneys from the Alliance Defending Freedom go to court today in San Francisco representing three California churches seeking exemption from a Golden State rule mandating they pay for abortions. The case originated in a suit filed by the Foothill Church in Glendora, Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Chino and Shepherd of The Hills Church In Porter Ranch. The three congregations are challenging the department’s mandate on appeal in Foothill Church v. Rouillard. Pro-life activists are arrested Pro-life activists were arrested Tuesday outside of Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where first and second-trimester abortions are committed, and the bodies of aborted children are used for research at the University of California San Francisco. Terrisa Bukovinac, executive director of Pro-Life San Francisco, Lauren Handy of Red Rose Rescue, and other pro-lifers including Cheryl Conrad of Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, were protesting outside of the hospital when they were arrested. The activists were charged with trespassing, but claim they were on public property. Pro-Life San Francisco announced it will be pursuing legal action regarding the arrest and are confident it will win in court.
Rep. Nino Vitale & Dr. Monica Miller: In Part One: Rep. Vitale who is the Ohio State Representative for District 85, asks why Gov. DeWine tried (and failed) to pass a law in 2019 that would have given him the same dictatorial powers over Ohio during a health crisis that he has now assumed? In Part Two: Dr. Monica Miller who is President of Citizens for A Prolife Society explains what a Red Rose Rescue accomplishes and why it so often ends in abortion mills

In this episode of Living the Gospel of Life, Leticia Velasquez interviews Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, the leader of this Red Rose Rescue and founder of the website protestchildkilling.com. (December 30, 2018)
On September 15, 2017 four pro-lifers conducted a "Red Rose Rescue" at Northland Family Planning Centers abortion mill in Sterling Hts, MI, namely Will Goodman, Matthew Connolly, Abby McIntyre and the director of Citizens for A Pro-Life Society, Dr. Monica Miller. The rescue was part of a NATIONAL INITIATIVE. On that day of rescue, two other "Red Rose Rescues" took place in Alexandria, VA and Albuquerque, NM. The rescuers in Michigan faced a maximum of THIRTY DAYS IN JAIL and/or a $250.00 fine. The six person jury FOUND THEM GUILTY OF TRESPASS and sentenced them to TWO YEARS OF PROBATION. The American Freedom Law Center intends to file an appeal. WATCH BELOW as Mark Harrington INTERVIEWS THE RESCUERS right outside of the courthouse where they received their verdict and sentencing. The goals of the Red Rose Rescue are two-fold: 1) to PERSUADE WOMEN TO LEAVE abortion centers before entering, and by doing so give life to their children; and 2) to SHOW A DEFENSE OF THE UNBORN scheduled to be imminently put to death--insofar as the pro-lifers expect the abortion procedures to not take place as long as they maintain a presence in the abortion facility. Dr. Monica Migliorino Miller explains: "Our goal is to reach out to the women scheduled for abortions. Ours will be the last voice they will hear to encourage them to turn away from the violent act of abortion--a violence against them, and against the innocent unborn who have no one to speak for them. We are there to help these moms, but we are also there to abide with the innocent unborn scheduled to be aborted--knowing that as long as there is a pro-life presence in the abortion centers no abortions will take place and the unborn thereby defended." Miller explains: "One of the reasons we decided to do the Red Rose Rescue at Chelian's Northland Family Planning in Sterling Heights was that her remarks indicated a shocking lack of respect for women."
