If so, this episode of Godly Goosebumps—in which Pastor Dudley shares the recording of an interview conducted during a weekend worship service at Shepherd Church—is sure to encourage and inspire you. Join Pastor Dudley as he revisits his moving conversation with Bob Fu, an educator and advocate for the persecuted Church in China and the founder and president of ChinaAid. Born, raised, and educated in China, Bob was a student leader during the deadly 1989 Tiananmen Square demonstrations before accepting Christ and ministering as a house church leader in Beijing. Ultimately, he and his wife, Heidi, were arrested under the charges of "illegal evangelism" before a miraculous escape enabled them to enter the United States of America as religious refugees. This jaw-dropping episode points to an important Biblical truth: The persecuted will be rewarded.

“The persecution of God's people has entered into the worst time we've seen in 40 years.” These are the words of Dr. Bob Fu, who serves as the founder and president of ChinaAid. Dr. Fu, a longtime ministry partner of The Voice of the Martyrs Canada, joins Closer to the Fire podcast host Greg Musselman to discuss why such intense opposition against Christians is taking place in China. During their conversation, Dr. Fu provides insight into the methods being used by the Chinese Communist Party to oppress and harass the country's Christians – including forcing children to renounce their faith in Jesus, installing facial recognition cameras in churches (and arresting pastors who refuse them), as well as rewriting and distorting the Bible. In addition, Dr. Fu addresses why the church continues to grow despite the many challenges facing followers of Jesus in this Communist nation. “We are ready and prepared to be imprisoned. We are not afraid of being imprisoned. But we are afraid of losing the fear of the Lord.” —House Church leaders in China Bob Fu, founder, and president of ChinaAid, is regularly in contact with Christians all over China. He says that, in an era of harsh government restrictions and a complete lack of religious freedom, churches are still being planted and leaders continue to baptize new believers in China. Author of God's Double Agent, Bob sheds light China's new “patriotic education” law instigated earlier this year by Xi Jinping and the Communist Party – including its mandate for Chinese living overseas. He will also discuss protests that broke out across Chinese universities early in 2023 as young people displayed their discontent with the government. Communist Party leaders continue to sweep their Christian persecution under the rug, categorizing the arrest of pastors and Christians as “illegal business activity” or financial fraud rather than violating religious regulations. As the government continues its tight reign over technology, they have removed Bible apps to eliminate access to God's Word. In spite of these efforts, ministries including The Voice of the Martyrs continue to deliver Bibles into the hands of Chinese believers. Listen as Bob shares updates on Pastor Wang Yi, serving a 9-year prison sentence, and Pastor Pan, who recently moved to America with his Mayflower Church congregation. Bob will also share a letter from Pastor John Cao, serving a 7-year sentence in prison, in which he writes, “Please rejoice for me. Jesus has died on the cross for me. It is my utter joy to be imprisoned for my Lord.” As you pray for Chinese Christians like Pastor Wang Yi, John Cao, and others who are imprisoned, ask the Lord to sustain them through the Holy Spirit. Pray for their persecutors to find hope in Jesus. As they go through intense persecution, pray they would continue to fear the Lord above everything.

Imagine growing up in a poverty stricken family in Communist China, having financial and political aspirations, taking part in the Tiananmen Square protest, being labeled an “instigator of unrest” by the government, then being brought to public shame that led to despair and almost suicide. All this was the backdrop for young Bob Fu's life, and became the means that led him to open his heart to the living God whose Word says that “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”Upon coming to Christ, Bob Fu's life only became more adventurous! As told in his book God's Double Agent, he became a teacher in the communist schools by day and a leader in the underground church after hours. After he and his wife were thrown into prison for “illegal religious activity”, God miraculously made a way for them to escape China. His burden for his persecuted brothers in China led him to start ChinaAid - an organization that brings help and awareness to those who are being persecuted in China. It's Tuesday, April 4th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson The persecuted “Mayflower Church” of China They call themselves the Mayflower Church.  First, members of Shenzhen Holy Reformed Church in China left their homeland in 2019.  Then, they tried unsuccessfully to get asylum in South Korea. And now, as of March 30th, they have been stymied in Thailand, reports ChinaAid. Evidently, China is putting pressure on Thailand to return the 63 members of the church to the communist country. Christianity Today reported that the congregation noticed one member acting strangely last week.  He admitted that he had compromised the group's location with China's state security.  He was subsequently escorted away by Chinese operatives, without his wife and daughter, and has not been seen since. The rest of the group is presently under arrest in a police station near Bangkok.   Mongolian Christians imprisoned for selling Bibles Nine Christians have been in prison in Inner Mongolia for almost two years now on charges of selling Bibles, reports Bitter Winter Magazine. Their trial will take place in April. A 66-year-old woman, named Wong Honglan, is facing a 15-year prison sentence. She's been a Christian for 42 years. According to China Aid, these church members have “held a morning prayer meeting every day at 6:00am. The morning prayer meeting never stopped for a single day, regardless of any weather conditions.” Tornadoes kill 32 people across 8 states In the providence of God, dozens of violent tornadoes have resulted in at least 32 fatalities over the weekend in Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois, Delaware, Indiana, Alabama, and Mississippi, reports ABC News. This is in addition to the 26 people killed in the Mississippi and Alabama tornadoes just 10 days ago. So far, there have been 63 deaths caused by tornadoes in the U.S. this year. That compares to a total of 23 deaths for all of 2022, 103 deaths in 2021, and 76 deaths in 2020.  Trump to be arraigned in New York court today The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, is expected to be arraigned in a Manhattan New York courtroom this morning, on 34 felony charges, reports The Independent. Trump flew into New York from Florida yesterday.  What may be most troubling for Trump is the threat of a gag order following the first hearing. The Daily Mail claimed sources that have revealed the judge in the case might place a gag order as part of the trial proceedings.  If Trump breaks an imposed gag order, he risks a $1,000 fine and as much as 30 days in prison under New York law.   The charges in the case relate to alleged payoffs made to a Proverbs 7-type woman. On Monday, the former president noted on Truth Social that “The Corrupt D.A. has no case. What he does have is a venue where it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to get a Fair Trial … [with] a Trump-Hating Judge, hand selected by the Soros-backed D.A.” 76% of Americans think Trump charges are political A recent CNN poll found that 76% of Americans believe the charges are politically-motivated while still 60% approve of the indictments.  However, Trump has only increased in popularity among Republican voters of late.  Now, a Yahoo News/YouGov Survey found that Trump was leading Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis by 26 percentage points (57% to 31%). That's quite an improvement from two weeks ago when he was only leading by 8 percentage points.  And, back in February, he trailed the Florida governor 45% to 41%. But let us keep in mind the wise counsel of Psalm 75:7and 8.  “God is the Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another.  For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red. It is fully mixed, and He pours it out; Surely, the wicked of the earth will drink it down to its very dregs.” 6-year-old shoots teacher Violence in the classrooms has spread to 6-year-olds now.   A 6-year-old child deliberately shot his teacher in the chest at an elementary school in Newport News, Virginia a month ago. And now, the teacher, Abby Zwerner, will be suing the school administration for $40 million, reports the Associated Press. "His Only Son" Biblical film took third place And finally, a just-released Biblical film tells the dramatized story of Abraham's faith test when called to sacrifice his son to God on Mount Moriah. The movie called “His Only Son” came in at third place on the U.S. Box Office reports over the weekend, taking in $5.5 million.  Watch the trailer through a special link in our transcript today. The other Christian movie on the silver screen, “Jesus Revolution,” held out at 10th place over the weekend, having taken in $51 million in box office receipts, reports BoxOfficeMojo. Let's remember today, that God gave His Son for us, as a sacrifice for our sins. John 3:16 declares, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Tuesday, April 4th in the year of our Lord 2023. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. It's Friday, March 24th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Similarities between Communist persecution & U.S. COVID shutdowns An expert who tackles Chinese Christian persecution sounded the alarm this week on parallels he sees between crackdowns perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party and America's COVID shutdowns, reports FaithWire.com. Bob Fu, president of ChinaAid, said, “It is very shocking and horrible to see American society's transformation evolving from its constitutional basis.” The nonprofit leader, who became a Christian in the Chinese underground church and even went to prison for leading house churches before escaping in 1996, said he believes the American Left is increasingly turning to “dictatorial” tactics, refusing to allow diverse voices. Fu said, “I saw the governor of California, [Gavin Newsom], basically proscribe and order the church to shut down and say not only when they can worship, but how. The ways that he threatened to punish those churches and pastors sometimes were word-for-word exactly the same as what the Chinese Communist Party is using against the Chinese churches.” Russian Christian fined for objecting to war against Ukraine Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Christian Russians who express their opposition to it on grounds of their faith, continue to be detained and fined under Russia's wartime laws punishing "discrediting the Armed Forces,” reports Evangelical Focus. Police arrested Rostislav Charushin in Moscow because he made a poster that quoted three of the Bible's Ten Commandments including “Thou shalt not kill.”  (Exodus 20:13) He was fined twice on March 9 for both “discreditation” and violating the so-called Demonstrations Law. The political game at play in Trump's possible arrest Despite former President Trump's prediction that he would be arrested this past Tuesday over alleged hush payments he made indirectly to a disreputable actress, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg did not arrest him. Appearing on Fox News, Republican Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio, the House Judiciary Committee Chair, pointed to the political agenda at play. JORDAN: “First, they went after President Trump on Russia. Then, it was a phone call with [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy. Then, they wanted his tax return. Then, they go after his business records. Then, they go after his children. And now it's some misdemeanor alleged bookkeeping error. “And this is from the prosecutor who initially didn't want to do this. In fact, he had people resign because he wasn't going to do this because no one else would bring this case. I mean, the DOJ didn't bring the case. The federal district in New York didn't bring the case. The previous prosecutor in the district there in Manhattan didn't bring the case. Mr. Bragg himself didn't want to bring the case. But then, he got pressured I think from the Left. The one thing that I think is changed his mind is President Trump announced he was going to run for president again.” Keep in mind, Alvin Bragg's election in November 2021 was funded by a $1 million donation from a political action committee, the Color Of Change, funded by Leftist billionaire George Soros.   Colorado looked at banning all abortions On January 26th, Colorado Republican State Rep Scott Bottoms introduced a bill that would have banned all abortions in the Centennial State. Jeff Durbin, Director of End Abortion Now and a teaching elder at Apologia Church in Mesa, Arizona, urged Colorado lawmakers to support the bill. DURBIN: “They used to say, ‘I know it's technically a human. I know it looks like a person. It's not a person. It's a black man. I know it's technically human. It looks like a person. It's not a person. It's a Jew.' “Humanity is filled with this evil in this tyranny where we draw circles around ourselves and we dehumanize and butcher and tyrannize other human beings. This is a simple bill: human from the moment of fertilization. That's a fact. Equal protection for all humans -- in the womb and outside of the womb. “We all agree with the injustice of a white man killing a black man unjustly. But the pro-choice position is essentially saying, ‘We don't have a problem with that as long as it's in the womb.'” Sadly, on February 17th, in an 8-3 vote, the Colorado House Committee on Health & Insurance postponed the bill indefinitely. Christian wrestler says Muhammed false prophet And finally, a champion wrestler has come under fire for comments he made on Saturday about his Christian faith and suggesting that Muhammad is a false prophet after winning an NCAA title, reports Fox News. Penn State wrestler Aaron Brooks, age 22, shared his Christian beliefs after securing the victory, crediting the Lord for his triumph. BROOKS:  “Christ's resurrection is everything. Not just His life, but His death and resurrection. You can only get that through Him, the Holy Spirit. Only through Him. No false prophets. No Muhammad, no anyone else. Only Jesus Christ Himself.” REPORTER: “Power and finesse, your calling card.” BROOKS: “The Holy Spirit. Acts chapter one, verse eight. Power, Holy Spirit power, is everything. That's where it's from.” Brooks won his third consecutive individual NCAA title on Saturday after beating a wrestler from Northern Iowa. REPORTER: “And put in perspective winning three of these in a row.” BROOKS: “God used me. He gives me this platform for this right here. It's all for His glory.” Brooks came under fire on social media for saying that Muhammad, the founder and main prophet of Islam, was a false prophet. Hemant Mehta tweeted, “It's wild to see a Christian athlete trash Muslims during a post-match interview by calling Muhammad a ‘false' prophet.” And Randy Patriot tweeted, “If it was a Muslim wrestler saying that Jesus was only a prophet, it wouldn't even be newsworthy. Why is it a big deal only when Christians profess their faith and belief? Christians know why.” In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, March 24th in the year of our Lord 2023. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. It's Thursday, March 16th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Top Chinese Commie Xi Jinping “re-elected” Xi Jinping  won a third five-year term as China's president last Friday. This puts the 69-year-old leader on track to stay in power for life. He won re-election uncontested, taking the vote of the National People's Congress 2,952 to 0. Xi rose to dominance over China during the last decade. He removed rivals and filled positions in the Communist Party with his supporters. This dominance has been threatened by the rapid growth of Christianity in China which the government has unsuccessfully tried to stamp out. China's crackdown on churches similar to Mao's Cultural Revolution The latest crackdown on Christianity in China is evident in the highly populated province of Henan. ChinaAid reports provincial leaders now require citizens to get permission before going to church. The program is implemented through an app called “Smart Religion.” The move is strategic since most of China's house churches started in Henan. Sam Brownback with the International Religious Freedom Summit told CBN News that Xi Jinping's regime is becoming more like Mao Zedong's regime. BROWNBACK: “We're seeing the continuation of the Xi Jinping regime, becoming a full Mao regime is really what's happening. “What he's doing right now is he's using the current technology he has to do what Mao [Zedong] did in the Cultural Revolution. He's just tightening down the whole situation, going after faith communities in particular, and doing it in a high-tech fashion. “Now, they're even requiring people to register on their phones to be able to go to church. Well, that's so they can track them and shut the places down.” Santa Clara County, CA tracked Christians during COVID lockdown Meanwhile in the U.S., one California county was caught tracking location data on the phones of Christians to see if they were violating COVID-19 lockdowns. The Mercury News reports newly unearthed court documents show Santa Clara County was using surveillance measures against members of Calvary Chapel San Jose – which was just featured in the Jesus Revolution movie. The county is seeking $3 million in fines from the church of 3,000 congregants for continuing to meet during the pandemic. Mariah Gondeiro, an attorney for Calvary Chapel, said, “It is unconscionable how much time and money this county has spent surveilling and targeting this church when they should be focused on rebuilding the community.” Proverbs 17:15 says, “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the LORD.” COVID lockdowns increased domestic violence A new study about COVID-19 lockdowns found domestic violence in the U.S. increased during the pandemic and negatively affected women's mental health. Arielle Scoglio, an epidemiologist at Harvard, was the lead researcher. She said, “Women in abusive relationships are often already isolated. … Stay-at-home orders further isolated women.” Dr. Panagis Galiatsatos at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine noted, “I see this as another consequence of the surge in dire mental health outcomes that were associated with measures to prevent COVID-19 spread.” Texas judge considers outlawing the Abortion Kill Pill Yesterday, a judge in Texas began hearing oral arguments in a case that could end the sale of chemical abortion drugs. The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine is challenging the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's decision to approve mifepristone in 2000.  The Abortion Kill Pill uses a two-drug combination of mifepristone and misoprostol. Chemical abortions account for over half of all abortions in the U.S. The Biden administration has expanded access to chemical abortions by allowing abortion drugs to be sold through the mail and at pharmacies. Biden: Opposition to transgender surgeries for kids is sinful During an interview with The Daily Show on Monday, President Joe Biden described opposition to transgenderism as sinful and cruel. BIDEN: “Transgender kids is a really hard thing. What's going on in Florida is, as my mother, would say close to sinful. I mean, it's just terrible what they're doing. … It's cruel. And the way we do it is we make sure we pass legislation like we passed on same-sex marriage. You mess with that, you're breaking the law, and you're going to be held accountable.” Isaiah 5:20 says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.” Biden was referencing Florida's efforts to keep gender confusion out of the state. In response to Biden, Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis tweeted, “It is not ‘sinful' to prohibit the mutilation of minors. It is not acceptable for the federal government to mandate that procedures like sex change operations be allowed for kids.” Former atheist turned Christian evangelist won Oscar for short film And finally, a former atheist-turned-Christian-evangelist won an Oscar at the Academy Awards on Sunday. Charlie Mackesy won best animated short film for “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.” The short film is based on a successful children's book by the British artist. One of his prominent works is a bronze sculpture called “The Return of the Prodigal Son.” Besides being a world-class artist, Mackesy is known for sharing the Gospel in the United Kingdom. A daily news briefing from Catholic News Agency, powered by artificial intelligence. Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, whose spire and roof were destroyed by an April 15, 2019, fire, is expected be rebuilt within the five-year deadline set by the French government. As confirmed by the head of the construction site, French Army General Jean-Louis Georgelin, in an interview with the Associated Press, the faithful and tourists should have access to the site again by the end of 2024. Reconstruction work only began some 24 months after the tragic incident occurred, with the first phase consisting of cleaning and securing the site, involving more than 200 different companies. Although the beloved cathedral will not be ready for the Olympic Games to be held in the French capital in July and August 2024, it should have regained its former shape by then, with the reconstruction phase of its emblematic spire to begin in April. The wood that will be used to rebuild the frame was blessed by the rector of the cathedral, Bishop Olivier Ribadeau Dumas, on December 15, 2022. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253809/reopening-of-notre-dame-cathedral-confirmed-for-late-2024 A human rights group active in China is reporting that religious believers in a populous Chinese province are now required to register on a government app in order to attend worship services. ChinaAid, a U.S.-based Christian charity, reported March 6 that the religious department of the provincial government of Henan is rolling out a system whereby all believers must make online reservations before they can attend services in churches, mosques, or Buddhist temples. The reservations are to be made through an app called “Smart Religion” developed by the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission of Henan Province. According to ChinaAid, applicants must fill in personal information, including their name, phone number, government ID number, permanent residence, occupation, and date of birth before they can make a reservation. Henan, located in the east-central part of the country, has one of the largest Christian populations in China — as much as 6% — according to a 2012 government survey. The communist government of China is officially secular. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253810/chinese-province-rolls-out-reservation-app-for-religious-believers Britain's House of Commons approved legislation Tuesday to create “buffer zones” around abortion facilities that would prohibit a wide range of behavior, including silent prayer. An amendment to exempt prayer and consensual conversation was voted down by lawmakers, who added the buffer zones to the Public Order Bill. The final vote came the day after a pro-life woman was arrested in Birmingham for the second time for praying silently in an alleged violation of a local buffer zone law. Opponents of the legislation decried the bill's passage as a strike against individual liberty in the United Kingdom. The bill would create a buffer zone of 150 meters, about 492 feet, outside abortion facilities in England and Wales. It bars intimidation, harassment, or interference toward those seeking or providing abortions. Violation would be punished with a fine, a change from a previously proposed penalty that called for a prison sentence. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253814/uk-parliament-bans-pro-life-outreach-and-prayer-near-abortion-facilities Today, the Church celebrates Saint John of God. Born in Portugal in 1495, John lived through decades of sin and suffering before a profound conversion that led him to embrace poverty, humility and charity. Saint John of God was canonized in 1690, and has become the patron of hospitals and the dying. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-john-of-god-confessor-171

Trinity Church is hosting a Men’s Conference, Friday night and Saturday morning, 2/24-2/25. The title is Taking Dominion. God has given mankind the commission to take dominion over His creation for the purpose of making it more fruitful, beneficial, and enjoyable, and all to the glory of God. Men are the tip of the spear as we lead our households in the pursuit of this dominion. Pastor Dave Hatcher, Pastor Jerry Owen, and Andrew Crappuchettes (CEO RedBalloon) will be speaking about fulfilling this mandate in our selves, our houses, and the other opportunities God gives us. Visit www.trinitykirk.org/2023-mens-conference https://www.foxnews.com/us/train-derails-outside-detroit-michigan-one-car-hazardous-materials Train derails outside Detroit, Michigan, with one car carrying hazardous materials A train containing one car of hazardous materials has derailed Thursday in Van Buren Township outside Detroit, Michigan, reports say. The cause of the derailment was not immediately clear. Police told Fox2 Detroit that there were no injuries and the area is not a hazmat situation. Officials that spoke to WXYZ, which reported that at least six cars were seen off the track, said one of them was carrying hazardous materials. The derailment comes less than two weeks after a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed in East Palestine, Ohio. Police told Fox2 Detroit that roads will be closed in the area while an investigation is ongoing. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy also said it is "aware of the train derailment in Van Buren Township, Wayne County, where initial reports indicate no threat to the public from the derailment. "EGLE personnel are on their way to the scene to assist in assessing the situation," it added. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-turns-down-ohios-request-disaster-assistance-toxic-derailment Biden admin turns down Ohio's request for disaster assistance after toxic derailment The Biden administration turned down a request for federal disaster assistance from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine in the aftermath of the train derailment in the state earlier this month that led to a large release of toxic chemicals. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) told Ohio's state government that it was not eligible for disaster assistance to help the community recover from the toxic spill, Dan Tierney, a spokesperson for DeWine, told Fox News Digital on Thursday. Tierney explained that FEMA believed the incident didn't qualify as a traditional disaster, such as a tornado or hurricane, for which it usually provides assistance. "The DeWine Administration has been in daily contact with FEMA to discuss the need for federal support, however FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time," DeWine's office said in a statement earlier in the day. "Governor DeWine will continue working with FEMA to determine what assistance can be provided." FEMA said that its team is in constant communication with DeWine's office, but didn't comment on the request for federal relief. Tierney noted, though, that the governor was able to secure some health assistance from the Department of Health and Human Services that will go towards helping local residents with any medical care costs that stem from the incident. Norfolk Southern has offered financial compensation to locals who were displaced and has worked with the Environmental Protection Agency and state officials to conduct air safety tests. Health officials have assured the public that tests have shown the area is safe. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/bruce-willis-diagnosed-frontotemporal-dementia-demi-moore-says_n_63ee887ae4b0808b91c5a71e Bruce Willis Diagnosed With Frontotemporal Dementia, Family Says Actor Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, his family said in a statement Thursday. The 67-year-old “Die Hard” star was diagnosed with the disease, also known as FTD, after his prior diagnosis of aphasia progressed, his family said. The disease’s progression varies from two to more than 20 years and the average life expectancy after the start of symptoms is seven to 13 years. There is no cure or treatment currently available, according to the AFTD’s website. Willis’ family said that by sharing his story they hope they can bring more awareness to the disease and push for research toward finding treatments. Willis retired from acting in 2022 after his aphasia diagnosis. Aphasia typically occurs suddenly after a stroke, head injury or sometimes a slow-growing tumor. It can affect a person’s ability to speak, write and understand language, both verbal and written, according to the Mayo Clinic. The actor’s former co-workers told the Los Angeles Times last year that he had been struggling for years on set. In the Biden administrations’ zeal for shooting down balloons, they may have overreacted with this one… https://aviationweek.com/defense-space/aircraft-propulsion/hobby-clubs-missing-balloon-feared-shot-down-usaf Hobby Club’s Missing Balloon Feared Shot Down By USAF A small, globe-trotting balloon declared “missing in action” by an Illinois-based hobbyist club on Feb. 15 has emerged as a candidate to explain one of the three mystery objects shot down by four heat-seeking missiles launched by U.S. Air Force fighters since Feb. 10. The club—the Northern Illinois Bottlecap Balloon Brigade (NIBBB)—is not pointing fingers yet. But the circumstantial evidence is at least intriguing. The club’s silver-coated, party-style, “pico balloon” reported its last position on Feb. 10 at 38,910 ft. off the west coast of Alaska, and a popular forecasting tool—the HYSPLIT model provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)—projected the cylindrically shaped object would be floating high over the central part of the Yukon Territory on Feb. 11. That is the same day a Lockheed Martin F-22 shot down an unidentified object of a similar description and altitude in the same general area. There are suspicions among other prominent members of the small, pico-ballooning enthusiasts’ community, which combines ham radio and high-altitude ballooning into a single, relatively affordable hobby. https://www.theblaze.com/news/eu-2035-gas-car-ban European Union approves effective ban on sales of gas cars by 2035, requiring 100% reduction in CO2 European Parliament has formally approved a law that will effectively end the sale of gas- and diesel-powered vehicles in the European Union by 2035, calling for a 100% reduction in CO2 emissions for any new cars sold, according to Reuters. The 27-nation union agreed to the changes in October 2022, but has now formalized the deal, which enforces a 55% reduction in emissions for vehicles by 2030. Levels for CO2 for 2021 were set at a target of 37.5%. Vans will get a slight advantage in the market, requiring a a 50% cut by 2030, compared with 2021 levels. Just a few months before the announcement in May 2022, car makers such as Ford and Volvo even signed a joint letter with 26 other companies asking the European Union to implement such a plan. The target of 2035 has been justified by the EU based on what officials say is an average vehicle lifespan of 15 years, which would allow the EU to reach net zero emissions by 2050. Companies that make less than 10,000 cars per year will be able to negotiate lower targets until 2036, however some companies are happily ready to enforce the change. Volkswagen vowed in October 2022 to produce only electric cars in Europe beginning in 2033, committing to the earliest possible time frame after previously stating it would aim for a 2033-2035 range. However, in June 2022, five countries were looking to delay the shift to electric-only vehicles by at least five years to 2040. Bulgaria, Italy, Portugal, Romania, and Slovakia called for a 90% cut of CO2 by 2035, extending the 100% target to 2040, with light commercial vehicles meeting 80% for 2035 before also needing the full cut by 2040. A Bulgarian official had said that the EU needed to reconsider the economic costs of switching to electric and the effect that would have on poorer nations in the union. Laws enforcing electric vehicle chargers are currently in negotiation in the union. https://dailycaller.com/2023/02/15/china-ccp-christian-chinaaid-jonathan-dingler-pastor-bob-fu-xi-jinping/ Communist China Cracked Down On Christians In 2022 The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) censored, fined, politically indoctrinated and forcibly disappeared Chinese Christians in 2022, according to a new report from the nonprofit ChinaAid Tuesday. The People’s Republic of China (PRC) reportedly employed a range of new methods to persecute Chinese Christians in 2022 including fabricating charges of fraud as well as criminalizing the legal international travel of church leaders, the report states. China’s crackdown on Christianity reportedly intensified in the run-up to the CCP’s 20th Party Congress in October 2022, during which time General Secretary Xi Jinping secured a third term as the communist nation’s supreme leader, according to ChinaAid. “Xi Jinping and the Communist Party did all they could to silence Christians leading up to the 20th National Congress,” Jonathan Dingler, a spokesman for ChinaAid who worked on the report, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Christians account for approximately 5% of China’s religious community, according to the CIA World Factbook. While Catholics number around 10 million, Protestants account for the majority of China’s Christian community, with approximately 38 million followers as of 2020, The Economist reported. Dingler told the DCNF that after the CCP’s crackdown leading up to the 20th Party Congress “the tone shifted” within the state-sanctioned churches which then began treating Xi “as if he were the leader of the church.” ChinaAid identified a March 2022 paper entitled “Adhering to the Sinicization of Religion in China” published by the United Front Work Department (UFWD) as the political motivation behind the CCP’s 2022 crackdown on Christianity. The UFWD is a “Chinese government entity charged with extending the CCP’s influence and control over non-Party organizations both domestically and abroad to advance CCP policy objectives,” according to a 2021 report by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC). Moreover, the USCC also identified the UFWD as a “Chinese intelligence service” in 2016. The UFWD’s March 2022 paper reportedly emphasized “promoting the Sinicization of religion, adhering to the orientation of the core socialist values and submerging all religious beliefs in Chinese culture to better adapt religion to China’s socialist society and the New Era of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics,” according to ChinaAid. China’s state-sanctioned churches must now actively promote Xi’s thoughts “from the pulpit,” which in practice means that churches which don’t “flat-out fall at Xi’s feet and worship him are considered ‘inciting subversion of state power,'” Dingler told the DCNF. Churches were reportedly even converted into political propaganda centers in order to broadcast Xi’s speech during the 20th Party Congress in October 2022, according to ChinaAid’s report. Likewise, churches in other provinces were also reportedly repurposed to hold “study” sessions on CCP policies such as “Reinforcing Management of Religion on All Fronts: 10 Prohibitions and 10 Mustn’ts.” The Chinese government also increasingly persecuted Christians online in 2022, censoring words like “Jesus,” “Savior” and “Amen” on the Chinese social media platform WeChat, according to ChinaAid’s report. At the same time, the Chinese government also shut down church websites and Christians’ social media accounts. “Congregants can’t even give to their churches online anymore, thanks to new regulations,” Dingler said. “They want to break down house churches even further, hoping they will finally give in and submit.” The Chinese Embassy did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

Fu, a pastor and author, is Senior Fellow for International Religious Freedom at Family Research Council and "was a student leader during the Tiananmen Square demonstrations for freedom and democracy in 1989," according to his ChinaAid profile. “Pray for those who are persecuted and write letters to them to encourage them,” said Fu. “Write to our elected officials, instruct them. You may have noticed that over the last couple of years, China has become a more frequent topic in the news and on BreakPoint commentaries. The reason is simple: its increasingly horrible treatment of Christians and other religious minorities. While other countries rank higher on Open Doors' recently released “World Watch List,” China's economic might, global clout, and sheer population size makes its contempt for religious freedom and treatment of religious minorities an enormous concern.  In fact, the news from there in this regard is virtually all bad these days, and only getting worse. In light of the devolving conditions for our brothers and sisters in Christ in China, this year's Wilberforce Award winner is particularly fitting. Pastor Bob Fu is founder and president of ChinaAid, a Christian “human rights organization committed to promoting religious freedom and the rule of law in China.” It does so by exposing the systematic persecution, harassment, torture, and imprisonment of Chinese Christians and human rights lawyers in China. ChinaAid also “financially supports Chinese Christians and their families who have experienced persecution by the Chinese government,” and “provides leadership and rule of law training for Christians and church leaders in China to defend their rights.” Now, if the biblical phrase “for such a time as this” comes to your mind too, it should. Bob Fu never intended this would be his life. Born in Shandong Province to a disabled father and beggar mother, he enrolled in university, fully intending to join the Communist Party and become a government official. God, however, had other plans. An American professor gave him a biography of a Chinese intellectual who converted to Christianity. As Fu told the Wall Street Journal, “that book changed my life.” After graduation, Fu taught English at a Communist Party School in Beijing while he and his wife, Heidi, became active in the house church movement. They even established a Bible school, which used chairs he borrowed from the Communist Party's school. The Communist Party didn't quite share Fu's sense of irony. He and his wife were jailed. About a year after their release from jail, Heidi became pregnant. It was their second child. Because the “One-Child Policy” was still being vigorously enforced in China, they emigrated to Hong Kong which, at the time, was still under British rule. Fu was granted political asylum by the Clinton Administration in 1997. Just as the persecution of the Church has, at times throughout history, led to the unintended spreading of the Gospel, Pastor Fu's forced emigration has only increased his impact. From his base of operations in west Texas, he operates what the Wall Street Journal has called “the most influential network of human-rights activists, underground Christians and freedom fighters in China.” Some of what Fu and China Aid have accomplished is the stuff of movies: In 2009, Fu and his allies in China helped smuggle the wife and children of Christian human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng, whom Amnesty International has called “the bravest lawyer in China,” out of the country. More recently, Fu worked closely with another human rights lawyer, Chen Guangcheng, a.k.a., “the barefoot lawyer,” whose harrowing escape from China was the topic of a BreakPoint commentary a few years ago. All of this has earned Fu a fitting nickname: “the Pastor of China's underground railroad.” For all these reasons and more, the Colson Center for Christian Worldview is pleased to announce that the 2020 William Wilberforce Award will be given to Pastor Bob Fu, a man who truly lives out his faith without fear—in truth and in love. Join us this May 14-17, just across the river from Washington, D. C., for this year's Wilberforce Weekend. We'll honor Dr. Bob Fu and hear from other Christian thought leaders like Os Guinness, Lee Strobel, Andy Crouch, Obianuju Ekeocha, Max McLean, and more.

New research from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in China indicates Beijing is beginning to become more open in international aid development programs. If so, this would mark a significant change from the past where the Chinese government has often been criticized for its lack of transparency in how it disperses overseas development assistance. The UNDP's findings were published this month in a report on "Demand-Driven Data: How Partner Countries are Gathering Chinese Development Cooperation Information." Beijing's apparent willingness to be more open about its expanding aid agenda comes as other major donors are also increasing their development assistance, particularly in Africa, following a sharp downturn in response to the 2008 financial crisis. The UNDP's Head of Policy and Partnerships in Beijing, Hannah Ryder, joins Eric & Cobus to discuss her team's new report and the politics of Chinese foreign aid.
