Our friend, Robby Lashua, from the ministry, Stand to Reason, writes this, "I love meeting with Latter-day Saints, especially the young men and women who are serving on their mission. I often invite them to my house to discuss their beliefs and ask questions about what Joseph Smith taught. After a few meetings, they usually ask if they can bring their bishop along with them to help answer some of my questions. I always say yes.” Want to hear how this usually goes? https://www.str.org/w/ground-your-faith-in-reality To effectively engage Latter-day Saints... https://training.str.org/indexDonate to Moody Radio: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/morningshow/wkesSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This is the sixth episode in a series of episodes dedicated to a young woman named Lizzy. Today's special guest, Robby Lashua, is a speaker with Stand to Reason. She admits she struggles with anxiety and wonders why God pursues her when it's hard for her to trust Him. SummaryRobbie Lashua discusses the Stand to Reason (STR) Outposts initiative, its purpose, and the process of starting one at a local church. He shares his journey of getting involved with STR and his role as the outpost coordinator. The conversation also covers the flexibility of outposts, the target audience, and the use of STRU courses for small group discussions. Robbie is interviewed about STR's Outpost program, which equips local churches with apologetics resources. The program allows flexibility for churches to use other materials but requires adherence to STR's mission statement. Outposts are not meant to teach doctrinal distinctives, and the local church is responsible for indoctrinating its members. Outpost directors have access to resources and support from STR for managing difficult personalities and theological issues. As you will hear discussed in today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, there are a host of theological issues that our foundational to the Christian faith. Conversely, there are other issues that, while important, are not as pressing as others. Some issues represent prerequisites to salvation. Others represent preferences. But, as our student question goes today, where does baptism lie? Is it a necessary point in the journey towards eternity with Christ? Or, is it simply a point along the journey we all take in pursuit of Christ. The difference may seem subtle. But does eternity hang in the balance? For more information on Robby and Stand to Reason, please visit this link! At first glance, Luke 2:52 seems harmless enough."Jesus increased in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and man."But, wait a minute...Jesus increased in wisdom? In other words, the pre-incarnate Word from John 1 "grew in wisdom" over the course of time? How? Or, Colossians 1's pre-existent, uncreated God-in-the-flesh became more wise?Further, how did Jesus increase in favor with God? Is Luke suggesting that at one point God favored Jesus less and then, at another point, He favored Him more? How does that work? And, so the argument goes: as the Gospels were written, the early church had a developing agenda for Jesus and therefore, over time, they began to exaggerate who He was and His significance. Is it possible that there are internal clues within Scripture that reveal an evolving Christology? To the rescue: Robby Lashua, an apologist with Stand to Reason! Robby helps us to understand Luke 2:52...Fore more information on Robby and Stand to Reason, please visit this link! In 2015, Larycia Hawkins, a professor at Wheaton College in Illinois, decided to wear a headscarf during the Advent season as a gesture of solidarity with Muslims. In doing so, Hawkins quoted Pope Francis, saying that Christians and Muslims "worship the same God." But, are they? Is Allah of Islam the same god as Jehovah or Judaism and Christianity? Is God the Father actually the father of three of world's biggest religions?Wheaton, a Christian school, responded by putting the political science professor on paid administrative leave. The college said it needed time to review whether Hawkins' statement puts her at odds with the faith perspective required of those who work there. In today's episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations, we put that question to Stand to Reason apologist Robby Lashua! To learn more about Robby Lashua and all the amazing apologetic resources available at Stand to Reason's STR.ORG, please follow this link."Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School. For more information on Frameworks, please visit: https://frameworks.ncsaz.org/For more information on Northwest Christian School, visit: https://www.ncsaz.org/To reach out to Geoff Brown, please email gbrown@ncsaz.org or you can reach him by cell phone: (623)225-5573.

Robby Lashua from Stand to Reason joins me to unravel the complex tapestry of apologetics and pastoral care, specifically as they relate to the deeply personal topic of biblical sexuality. With society bombarding us with conflicting messages about the nature of sexual relationships, Robby's pastoral heart and apologetic acumen guide us through these murky waters. Our conversation ventures into the essential role of the church in offering not just a critique of contemporary sexual idolatry but a transformative vision of sexuality and marriage based on scriptural principles. As we traverse from the significance of godly intimacy to the pitfalls of past purity cultures, Robby's insights shine a light on a path that leads away from personal gratification and towards divine purpose.Wrestling with tough societal questions isn't just for adults; it starts at home with our children. Facing the challenge head-on, we discuss the imperative of nurturing candid discussions about sex within Christian families from an early age. By equipping our children with an understanding of sexuality that aligns with the Bible, we prepare them to counteract harmful cultural narratives. This episode strips back the layers of silence often shrouding this topic in the church, highlighting the role of parents as discipleship guides in shaping young minds, particularly young men, with a healthier, biblically-grounded perspective. As we navigate the choppy seas of biblical interpretation regarding homosexuality, particularly in light of the upcoming film "1946," Robby assists in dissecting original Greek terms and the variations in scripture translations like the ESV and NASB. We also reflect on Pope Francis's remarks on same-sex unions and the implications these hold for Catholic theology, emphasizing the importance of a scriptural foundation. As part of their accounts of the birth of Christ--the centerpiece to celebrating Christmas--both Matthew and Luke convey the genealogy/the lineage of Jesus. But, "hold the phone" says a careful New Testament student reader in his question for our "What about? Wednesday" Kingdom Culture Conversations podcast episode today. "If Matthew and Luke consider Christ's lineage to be of such primary importance that they list it out at the very start of the respective gospels, why does Paul warn Timothy against it in I Timothy 1:4?"Paul writes to Timothy, "...nor to devote yourself to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith."So what's the deal?As we head into the last few days before Christmas, it makes for a great question for Robby Lashua of Stand to Reason and a wonderful episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations!

You know it is going to be a memorable episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations when we need to kick it off with a disclaimer! As you'll hear on today's "What about? Wednesday" episode with Stand to Reason apologist Robby Lashua: "It truly is up to every believer to approach God's word humbly and seek out truth independently. Today's conversation is not meant to be the sole determinant of whether or not your home should celebrate Christmas or celebrate Christmas with Santa. Today's conversation is simply meant to inspire you to think and discuss this issue and then to independently–using God's word as a guide–decide the issue on your own."Things are going to get interesting today as G, Robby, and J.T. What is a worldview? Why are they important? What do they answer? Why does the title mention slapping someone in the face? These are all questions that are answered in this week's episode! - This episode is based off the course 'Evaluating Worldviews" by Robby Lashua from Stand to Reason University
Before Christ, we seek the world's wisdom only to be greeted by its ugly counterpart: folly. What do we find when we hold a worldly worldview? Odd hypotheses. Conflated concepts and issues. Constant contradictions. Lies and deception. The world tries to lure you in and entice you like a hypnotic snake. (Where have we seen that before?!) JOIN US as we interview ROBBY LASHUA, APOLOGIST at STAND TO REASON as he educates us on what in the world is a worldview in the first place, what is a Biblical worldview, how we get one… and once we have one, how do we keep it? At a time when the world seems to be applauding “progressive” Christians for “deconstructing” their faith… You won't want to miss this episode. So, maybe it's not exactly what you'd call "viral" but, nevertheless, it's a Youtube-based video that has been making the rounds within communities of evangelical Christian students that have a bent towards theology: "Destroying Calvinism in 3 Minutes". Try as we might, finding the specific Greenwood Baptist Church whose pastor is featured in this gloriously southern-Baptist-flavored tirade has been nigh near impossible! Yet, the video has produced questions in the minds of some Kingdom Culture Conversations student listeners. But, not the sort of questions that you might expect. This is not an episode in which we attempt to resolve the longstanding theological tension between Calvinism and Arminianism. Rather, the student that brought this video forward is asking the question, "Why would God allow for a question of such seeming importance to remain unanswered or to be unclear in Scripture?" As an extension of that question, the student's question to Robby today is also, "When Scripture is unclear on an issue perceived to be significant, how do we proceed?"To view the Youtube video in question--"Destroying Calvinism is 3 Minutes"--please click here.To learn more about apologist Robby Lashua and his work with Stand to Reason, please follow this link."Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School.

The conversation further stresses the significance of context in biblical interpretation and the potential risks when scripture is misconstrued. It's a fascinating journey into the differences between Absolute Inerrancy and Full Inerrancy, and the potential dangers if we allow Scripture to err.As we round off our discussion, we delve into the influence of the Bible throughout history. We underscore the importance of adhering to God's Word and its lasting impact on humanity. Listen in, find some answers, and share this captivating episode with friends and family. The takeaways from this discussion could usher in a new understanding of biblical inerrancy.
The unforgivable sin. According to Jesus in Mark 3:29, all sins will be forgiven men except for one--the unforgivable sin.It would seem, reasoned the student that submitted this question to "What About?" Wednesday, that we'd want to figure out what the unforgivable sin is...And, quick!Yet, questions about the nature of this sin and the nature of blasphemy persist.Cue Robby Lashua, apologist with Stand to Reason, who joins us on Kingdom Culture Conversations every other Wednesday, as part of our "What About?" Wednesday tradition of answering student/listener questions stemming from the intersection of theology, orthodoxy, and culture. In today's episode, we wrestle with the questions, "What is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?", and further, are we, within Christian culture, taking the notion of "blasphemy" seriously enough?"Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School. To learn more about apologist Robby Lashua and Stand to Reason, please click here.
The return of a tradition! It's the debut of "What About?" Wednesday for the 2023/2024 school year!Today, on Kingdom Culture Conversations, we're thrilled to welcome apologist Robby Lashua, of Stand to Reason, back to the International Podcast Headquarters of Kingdom Culture Conversations. As has been our long-standing tradition, we invite Robby back into the studio to wrestle with theological questions and apologetic issues that are put forward by students and other KCC listeners. But, today, we react to a recent STR article that Robby wrote: "Why My LDS Friend Isn't Trying to Convert Me to Mormonism". The article presents a conundrum: if my LDS friend believes that I don't believe...and, further, that not believing means that I'll spend eternity in hell...shouldn't they be motivated to see me accept Mormonism? But, as we'll learn today, the conundrum is rooted in an assumption: Mormons believe about hell and eternity the same things that Christians do...Wait. What? They don't?Tune in today to find out!To read Robby's great article, please click here.To learn more about Robby Lashua and all the amazing apologetic resources available at Stand to Reason's STR.ORG, please follow this link."Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School.
Why isn't my LDS friend trying to convert me to Mormonism? That's a question that seems to run contrary to popular belief, upon seeing Mormon missionaries out and about sharing their faith. Robby Lashua from Stand To Reason has pondered this question and stopped by to share some of what motivates Mormons in their witnessing efforts. https://www.str.org/w/why-my-lds-friend-isn-t-trying-to-convert-me-to-mormonism See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A highly anticipated interview is hitting your feed today! We are so excited to be sharing the conversation our host Sarah Schalow had with our longtime friend Robby Lashua! Sarah and Robby met to record in early May of this year. Those of you who have attended Desert Springs for a while will know who Robby is - and if you aren't familiar with him, you will definitely have the opportunity get to know him today! We loved having him on our staff at Desert Springs for so many years, but we are beyond excited about the work he is now doing with Stand to Reason. We got to hear so much about Robby's heart for knowing God but also about his personal life. We start at the beginning and Robby walks us through growing up in the small town of Pine in rural Northwest Arizona. He was raised in a Christian home, but at a young age was exposed to other belief systems as the area he grew up in has a strong Mormon influence. Even as a boy he learned to examine scripture to understand what was true and you'll get to hear about how his Mom, Grandpa and the AWANA program were a big part of helping him to do that. Robby moved to the valley to study at Southwestern Bible College (now Arizona Christian University) and it was there that his passion for apologetics was ignited and realized. This is where he met his wife Kelly too (her episode is linked below)! He knew that he wanted to always be studying and learning about God but also wanted to teach others to do the same. As you hear about Robby's life, you'll hear some practical wisdom on how to know what you believe is true, encouragement to keep pursuing the Lord, tips on how to learn about other faiths while staying true to your own and so much more (really, there is a lot!). We're so thankful for Robby and that he is a part of our church family! “Blessed Assurance Jesus is Mine- oh what a foretaste of glory divine. Rich conversation about evidence for the resurrection, the problem with missing the mark or going against the way God designed human beings to be- fascinating- challenging new ideas- even the answer he gave to our signature final question- just had me thinking afterwards... ” ~Janell————Happy Wednesday! Today on the Finding Something REAL podcast, Janell sits down with Robby Lashua, one the speakers with Stand to Reason. Janell and Robby talk a little about STR and the definition of Apologetics, then Robby shares about his pursuit of truth within his own faith journey, his desire to understand how and why people believe what they believe, and more. They have a great conversation about evidence for the resurrection, the character of Jesus, and more! Quite a bit of this episode deals with the topics of sin and evil. Robby defines sin and discusses moral law, the definition, of evil, and the freedom we have to make choices. They also talk about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and more! We hope you enjoy this episode! About Robby Robby is an apologist with Stand to Reason. On February 8, 2023, following a routine chapel service at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, a handful of students stayed behind and continued to enjoy a time of praise and worship. Asbury President Kevin Brown sent out a brief two-sentence email to the faculty and student body: "There's worship happening in Hughes Auditorium. All are welcome to join." Within a week, that small gathering had broadened to include as many as 15,000 visitors per day. What in the world happened? What is "revival"? How can we know if an event of this nature is God's design or man's design? And, should that even matter? Does God change His mind? Believe it or not, there are scriptures that seem to suggest that He does!Consider Jonah 3:10 in which God "relented".Or, consider Genesis 6:6-7 in which we are told that God "regretted" making man. These verses have given rise to a school of thinking that attempts to balance the free will of man against the omniscience or foreknowledge of God: Open Theism. Some call it enlightened orthodoxy. Some call it heresy. Produced by Dallas Jenkins, the Jesus-centered web-based, episodic program "The Chosen" premiered in April 2019 and became the largest crowdfunding media project in history. More than 16,000 people contributed over $10 million to the production for its first season. And the culture's appetite for the program has only grown since then.Twice "The Chosen" has premiered new episodes in movie theaters: Fathom Event's top two best-selling events have come from The Chosen with ‘Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers' grossing over $13.5 million in 2021 and ‘The Chosen Season 3 episodes 1 & 2' grossing over $14 million, placing second in gross box office on the Friday of its opening weekend, Further, when Season 3's episodes 1 & 2 ticket sales went live, the overwhelming demand crashed the Fathom Events website.Today's Kingdom Culture Conversations--a "What About? Perhaps Charlie Brown had it right after all. Maybe Christmas isn't all that we think it is. In fact, it's been suggested by several prominent atheists that it isn't anything even remotely like we would think as the apex of the Church calendar and the center of the liturgical year. It's been suggested that Christmas and all of its commercial trappings--Santa Claus, gifts, mistletoe, caroling, all of it--are simply pagan traditions that have been repurposed into a semi-sacred amalgamation of truth and tradition.Could it be true? Is it time to take down the Christmas lights? In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, Robby Lashua of Stand to Reason helps us to go deep into the roots of Christmas traditions and assists in sorting the good from the bad. You know Martin Luther--the great reformer, the man that launched Protestantism? Well, he certainly didn't mince words when he said of the New Testament's epistle of James, "“Therefore St James' epistle is really an epistle of straw, compared to these others, for it has nothing of the nature of the Gospel about it.” Believe it or not, Luther even suggested removing James from the canon of scripture. It's also been suggested that James' view of salvation is markedly different from that of Paul. Further, allegedly, James rarely mentions Jesus in his contribution to the New Testament.Today, Robby Lashua works through these allegations and protestations, helping us to see the virtue in this brief epistle. And, once we see it in the new light that Robby shares, we'll never again mistake the brevity of James for a lack of clarity in terms of who Jesus is and what He brings to the lives of His followers. What is this Kingdom Culture Conversation podcast tradition, " 'What About?' The lights in the theater fade and the audience goes silent. Cue Critical Theory entering from stage right. Immediately, the crowd boo's and hisses...Critical Theory has become what Darth Vader was in the seventies and eighties...the ultimate villainous archetype."But, hold on a second," a student recently asked, "isn't Critical Theory, at least in a form, in the Bible?" After we work through the shock of such a supposition, it's not a bad question. "Take a look at the theological concept of the imputation of sin," reasons the student. "Here, we see God ascribing the consequences of sin to all of humanity for the sins of a single man, Adam. Nevermind whether or not that is fair, the issue is the similarity to Critical Theory. One of the main Evangelical knocks against Critical Theory is that a whole class of people are lumped into a bucket of 'oppressor' because of their ethnicity, gender, or faith. Isn't that what God does with humanity? He lumps us all into the class of 'sinner' because we are descendants of Adam? Doesn't that make God the ultimate Critical Theorist?"Ouch. But, Robby Lashua, regular KCC contributing guest and apologist from Stand to Reason, enters from stage left to answer the question...but does he save the day? It's the elephant in the room.1 in 10 Americans believe that at any point in time, unforeseen and unceremoniously, they will suddenly disappear from the planet. If we extrapolate out Pew Research regarding the theology of Evangelicals and the percentage of American Evangelicals according to Barna, the "rapture" is a belief held by 10% of Americans. It's been the subject of best-selling books and movies. The firestorm of controversy transcended the Twitterverse and actually became a subject of frequent discussion in homes and churches: John MacArthur's two-word take-down of Beth Moore ("Go home") was a polarizing moment in Evangelical culture on a topic that was already very polarizing. Does God's word teach that women cannot be pastors in a church? Was Paul's teaching about women meant for the culture of the first century or does his prohibition apply to today's church? In today's first "What about? Wednesday" episode of the new school year, students have brought forward the question and, as is our every-other-Wednesday tradition, we put it--in unflinching style--in front of apologist Robby Lashua of Stand to Reason. I got to sit down with a local Christian apologist and father 4 and we discussed bringing up kids in the faith and how important it is to live out our faith. I highly recommend connecting with Robby. Is it possible? Could we become so fixated on working out, diet, looks, and fitness, that our body image becomes a distraction in our pursuit of Christ? If our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 6:19-20), we need to keep the temple in good repair--but can that be carried to unhealthy extremes?Today, the "What about?" It's a Star Wars sequel of sorts! In our "May the Fourth" What About Wednesday? episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations, we got just a bit carried away discussing Star Wars and worldviews. Therefore, today, a "part two"! For all of the popcorn-summer-movie fun that the Star Wars franchise has produced since its unexpected success and launch in 1977, should we feel completely comfortable with the worldview that is being promoted by Luke Skywalker, Yoda, the Mandalorian, and friends? Is there a redeeming element of Christian worldview present in these movies/books/TV shows as some would suggest? Or, is there something detrimental hidden there? The "worldview chart" from Summit Ministries is mentioned in this episode as part of the basis for the conversation. The evidence of Jesus' resurrection is proof of God's love. We have all kinds of resources to support God's Word, and we should start with the Gospel. Did God intend for us to enjoy marijuana recreationally and medicinally? Could this be what He meant when, in Genesis 1:29, God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it."Today's "What about? Wednesday" episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations finds Robby Lashua, of Stand to Reason, tackling some aspects of the legalized marijuana debate that is raging in the culture presently: If it's legal, natural, and medicinally beneficial, should we not be free to enjoy marijuana as Christ followers? Walt Disney, the Beatles, Harry Potter, Martin Scorsese, Starbucks, Heinz, Wells Fargo, and Home Depot. All these brands--and many others to boot--have been literally given the boot by evangelical families who placed them on the business end of boycott. In today's "What about?" episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations, a student asks, "Is it possible that we're now on the receiving end of the sword that we originally forged?" In other words did evangelical boycotts establish the foundation upon which today's cancel culture is based? In the 80's, 90's, and 00's, we were happy to short-change these businesses to get our way--but now that the sparks have jumped from the firepit and the prevailing direction of the cultural bonfire of vanities is moving in a uniquely different direction, could it be that we were the ones that originally lit the fire?Join Robby Lashua of Stand to Reason for a all-perspectives-considered conversation! What is this Kingdom Culture Conversation podcast tradition, " 'What About?' Today's "What about? Wednesday" episode of Kingdom Culture Conversation presents a unique twist on the recent and raging debate over the use of preferred pronouns. A student asked the increasingly common question regarding preferred pronouns this way: "I understand that Biblical worldview presents the truth that genders are not fluid. But, if I have a non-Christian friend who doesn't hold to this perspective and asks me to use their preferred pronoun, what should I do? On the one hand, I want to hold to my convictions about the truth of scripture. On the other hand, if I don't use my friend's preferred pronoun, I might lose my friendship and the opportunity to share the love of Christ."Tough question. An intellectual crime has been committed in our culture. Truth has been hijacked! And it has been replaced by an imposter. This false version of truth permeates our culture today; it saturates the media our kids consume and the instruction they receive in public and many charter schools. That is dangerous because if the Enemy can distort our kid's understanding of what is true, that can work to open the door for a thousand more lies that will undermine their faith in Jesus. The issue of racism is exploding in the culture right now. The cultural confusion envelopes charged words and phrases like critical race theory, "Black Lives Matter", reparations, white fragility, and so much more. As followers of Christ, believers with aspirations of reflecting the character of Christ, how do we approach the issues pertaining to race and racism in the light of "Imago Dei"?In today's vital Kingdom Culture Conversation, we are joined by three individuals who are close to the ground on these issues. Given our growing understanding of the implications of "Imago Day", these three draw our attention to God's designs and purposes for race within His Kingdom.Willow Humes graduated from Northwest Christian in 2016 and is presently working with Mission Haiti, a missions organization that provides Christian education for students in Haiti.Robby Lashua is with Stand to Reason, an apologetics ministry located in California.Devaughn Cunningham is a pastor at CalvaryPHX."Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School.
