Spurs win Game 3 at Madison Square Garden!  Jalen Brunson and the Knicks still hold a 2-1 series lead, but Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs just reminded everyone this series isn't over. We break down Game 3 of the NBA Finals, what it means for the series, and whether Brunson's fourth-quarter production across this Finals already locks him into the all-time point guard conversation regardless of how this ends. Then we get into the Protect College Sports Act, the federal bill that would cap how much schools can pay athletes, limit transfers, and give the NCAA the legal muscle to enforce it all. Athletes and agents are furious. The schools pushing for it say without guardrails the entire system collapses. We break down what the bill actually does, who wins, who loses, and why the loudest supporters might have the most to gain. Finally, Russell Wilson officially retired and landed at CBS Sports. Ten Pro Bowls. One Super Bowl ring. Two Finals appearances. The peak-Seattle run was one of the most efficient QB stretches of the 2010s. Is that a Hall of Fame career? We take a side. RUNDOWN   After 16 days across London, Berlin, Paris, Rome, and Florence, Mitch returns home exhausted, overfed, broke, and surprisingly fond of Berlin. He and Hotshot Scott break down the trip, from ranking Europe's biggest cities and comparing food cultures to discussing sightseeing fatigue, Segway tours, horseback riding in Tuscany, and the realization that his sons viewed the entire vacation very differently than he did. Fresh off his European adventure, Mitch quickly pivots back to the Mariners and a pitching situation that suddenly looks very different than it did a month ago. With the piggyback experiment shelved for now, the focus turns to Bryce Miller's dominant return to form, Luis Castillo's resurgence after being challenged, and whether Seattle's six-man rotation creates more opportunities than problems. The Mariners' series loss in Detroit quickly turns into a deeper conversation about Andrés Muñoz, whose recent struggles have Brady and Joe (Mariners No-Table) debating whether Seattle can continue treating him as an automatic ninth-inning option. The trio examines bullpen management, the challenges created by the six-man rotation, potential closer alternatives, and whether the trade deadline could force Jerry Dipoto to look for outside relief help. Steve Phillips hasn't jumped off the Mariners bandwagon despite an uneven first two months. He explains why Seattle's pitching depth, second-half track record, and a weak American League still make them a legitimate World Series contender, while also addressing growing concerns about Andrés Muñoz and potential bullpen fixes before the trade deadline.   GUESTS   Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose podcast Joe Doyle | MLB analyst, Over-Slot Steve Phillips | Former GM of New York Mets, MLB Network Analyst, SiriusXM host   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Mitch recaps a whirlwind European family vacation filled with unforgettable sights, culture shocks, and a chaotic front-row experience of Paris Saint-Germain's riot-filled Champions League celebration. 33:42 | The Mariners' pitching surplus is suddenly a good problem, as Bryce Miller's resurgence, Luis Castillo's rebound, and Cade Anderson's rise force Seattle to weigh rotation depth against potential trade-deadline opportunities. 45:28 | Mariners No-Table: The Mariners' bullpen concerns take center stage as Andrés Muñoz's struggles spark closer questions, but strong performances from Bryce Miller, Cole Young, and Colt Emerson help keep Seattle firmly atop the division. 1:09:42 | Steve Phillips: Steve Phillips still sees the Mariners as a legitimate World Series threat, with pitching depth, roster flexibility, and a weak American League outweighing bullpen concerns and lineup questions. 1:29:28 | Other Stuff Segment: Caitlin Clark illness during Commissioner's Cup game, Russell Wilson joining CBS, Russell Wilson Hall of Fame debate, Myles Garrett traded to Rams, Aaron Donald comeback speculation, Rams vs Seahawks offseason comparison, Nolan Teasley hired by Vikings, NFL minority hiring compensation picks, Madden NFL 27 cover featuring Caleb Williams, Brandon Roy and Garfield recruiting scandal, Eastside Catholic recruiting jokes, Nick Saban NIL criticism and congressional testimony, French Open champions Alexander Zverev and Mirra Andreeva, Magda Linette Cinderella run at Roland-Garros. Who is to blame for the Mariners walk-off loss to the tigers on Sunday? There was some questionable bullpen usage, including putting Criswell in when Bazardo was ready AND not utilizing Munoz enough, so that he had to come in after not pitching for 5 days. What more do they need? The numbers have to show Muni doesn't do well with a lot of days off between outings and Andres himself has said he needs to pitch more! What about not only using him in save situations? What about not only using him as a closer? :30- Mariners Morning After This wasn't just on the bullpen, but they did play a big part in it. The M's went up 4-0 and then things got sloppy. :45- What does Chuck think about Russell Wilson's retirement? Is he Hall of Fame worthy? It's NBA Finals week, Game 2 is tonight, and the Shoot Around boys are doing exactly what they do on Fridays — talking about everything except the thing you'd expect them to talk about.   They kick things off with a listener correction from Twitter — turns out the Coach of the Year who got fired before the award came in was Dwayne Casey, not Lloyd Pierce (Rob was close). From there it's a full dive into the hero-to-villain arc: OKC went from everyone's favorite upstart to the team everyone wanted to see lose, almost overnight. Rob points to the Kansas City Chiefs as the gold standard of that flip — and SGA's habit of spending time on the floor didn't exactly help Oklahoma City's cause this year.   Then it's a two-part debate: who should retire and go to the broadcast desk, and who do you wish had kept playing? Russell Wilson heading to the CBS pregame show kicks things off, and the guys run through Draymond, Klay Thompson (Rob thinks he'd surprise people), Mike Trout, and Jameis Winston — who they both agree has a big bag waiting for him somewhere, whether it's Barstool or a network couch next to Shannon Sharpe and Gronk.   On the comeback side — Serena Williams is returning to play doubles at the HSBC Championships, which gets them talking about who they'd most want to see suit back up. Rob's answer: Pete Sampras. Casual greatness, no ego, just stroll in and handle business. Brandon picks Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson — two guys who deserved so much better than what Detroit gave them.   And then the closer — the hot mic segment that was teased all week on Tuesday's show. LSU pitcher Devin Shearer gets warned by the umps, ESPN gets told to turn the field mics down, ESPN does not turn the field mics down. And then there's the Nebraska-Oklahoma State softball game, where an unidentified voice — still a mystery — delivered what might be the most unexpected phrase ever broadcast live on ESPN. Rob and Brandon's debate about who exactly says "ball sack" at a softball game is genuinely one of the funnier bits they've done.   In this episode: OKC's hero-to-villain arc — and the Kansas City Chiefs comparison SGA's foul-baiting and why fans turned on Oklahoma City Russell Wilson heads to CBS — who else should retire and hit the desk? Klay Thompson as a broadcast sleeper pick Jameis Winston's future: Barstool or network TV? Bomani argues that KAT has been the Knicks' best player in the postseason and explains why New York looks its most dangerous when the offense runs through Towns instead of falling into heavy Jalen Brunson isolation ball. They also get into how Towns' aggressiveness has changed the way people see him, why his effort level has been the biggest difference, and what this kind of playoff run could mean for his long-term legacy if the Knicks finish the job. Seahawks left tackle Charles Cross faced off against Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns back in 2023. What went right? What went wrong? And what did an average drive look like both from a scheme perspective and a matchup perspective? Before we get there, we discuss the three-year, $42M extension for edge Derek Hall (up to $46.5M, $21M guaranteed). Hall's pressure rate and run-defense impact demonstrate his balanced game, but what is he missing that sets him apart from the most elite players at the position? After a look at a few of the reps between Cross and Garrett, we talk about the anticipation for the Christmas matchup and close with the news of Russell Wilson's retirement.  Support the show Get in the Flock!
