From the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft to never making another NFL roster 3 years later, Jamarcus Russell joins The Pivot to finally tell his side of the story about what really went on to cause such a short NFL career for the quarterback who had so much potential. This conversation covers everything with emotion filled losses, tension filled frustrations and honest reflection of one of the most disappointing stories in the sport's history. Jamarcus, the highly successful LSU alumni and MVP of the 2007 Sugar Bowl, shares the Tiger ties with Ryan and reached out because he felt after all these years, it was time to answer many of the stories that shadowed his career and ultimately led to his downfall. Giving him every opportunity to explain and take accountability for what went on- Ryan, Fred and Channing ask the tough questions to find answers we all want to know. Getting right into it, the guys ask him about substance abuse stories, not watching film, missing team meetings and relationships with coaches and teammates on the Raiders during his years there. Ryan asks Jamarcus if he considers himself the biggest NFL Bust of all time to a response that may come as a surprise but he also makes it clear where he stands financially after getting 35 million guaranteed and addresses rumors of the former quarterback being broke. Not overlooking his ability to play at a high level, Channing asks Jamarcus how his talent led to losing seasons and not a lot of playing time as Jamarcus talks about his regrets, relationship with Al Davis, Nick Saban, Tom Cable, Hue Jackson and others in the organization who he feels played a role in his short NFL career. Reflecting back on a lot of "What Ifs', Jamarcus tells Fred he often wonders what it would have been like and how the course would have changed if Randy Moss was never traded to New England the year he was drafted and dispelling the rumors of his beef with Jeff Garcia and why he never made it on to another NFL roster. The guys start off discussing The Players Tribune article written by former 2007 NFL #1 pick JaMarcus Russell. JaMarcus opened up about his life in the article. The guys discuss the pressures Russell was under at 21 years old. It was too much for him to handle & folks were upset because they felt it was a talent wasted. Discussion on Jack Del Rio's initial comments about the January 6th insurrection and the Washington Commanders' decision to fine him for them.Adewale (Wale) Ogunleye, Head of Sports & Entertainment at UBS; Former NFL Defensive EndFeels that players like JaMarcus Russell were treated as a transaction. This leads athletes down a path of mistrust, so the industry needs to do a better job of understanding where the individual comes from and give them a sustainable financial future. Young players sometimes do not have anyone to confide in. In some cases, teams are getting rid of veteran leaders who can lead and teach. It would be nice if the successful business leaders that own the teams didn't stay away from the players. The entertainer's side of this business is sometimes worse than what athletes go through. The industry does a poor job of showing how short your career is. Wale promotes the release of 'The White Paper', Family Ties- How Athletes & Entertainers Navigate Financial Expectations of Family & Friends. The paper and Wale's efforts help guide athletes and entertainers around wealth management. While athletes and entertainers have good entertainers for their communities, many find themselves facing financial hardship because so many people depend on them for support. Unchecked generosity can put all parties at risk with many athletes losing their wealth.

Raider Nation Podcast - Oakland Raiders News and Opinion with Raider Greg
TOPICS: Segment #1: "Raiders....Making A Move?....McNabb?" The rumors that the Raiders are the "front runners" in the Donovan McNabb derby have been heating up for days, then recently there is no new news. "No Comment" from the Raiders. Everyone is on the edges of their seats waiting to find out what the Raiders will do. McNabb doesn't appear to be crazy about the idea of being traded to the Raiders, the he might not have a choice. Raider Nation is divided on whether or not it would be a good thing. Raider Greg give you the story and his opinion. Segment #2: "JaMarcus Russell is booted from the Jenny Craig plan" Willie Brown said that we would be "surprised" when we see JaMarcus, because one look at him will tell you he has lost a significant amount of weight. However, Tim Kawakami reported that J-Russ weighed in at 271 when he reported to the voluntary workouts. Then another report had him weighing in at 290. He has not been seen in public, other than the "moving interview" he had as he was driving out of Raiders headquarters after his first day there. What is the real story? Raider Greg gives you his thoughts. Segment #3: "The NFL Draft Is Coming!" Who will the Raiders draft? Greg discusses the possibilities, and gives his opinion.
