pWotD Episode 2911: Pope Benedict XVI Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 624,120 views on Monday, 21 April 2025 our article of the day is Pope Benedict XVI.Pope Benedict XVI (Latin: Benedictus XVI; Italian: Benedetto XVI; German: Benedikt XVI.; born Joseph Alois Ratzinger, German: [ˈjoːzɛf ˈʔaːlɔɪ̯s ˈʁat͡sɪŋɐ]; (16 April 1927 – 31 December 2022) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 19 April 2005 until his resignation on 28 February 2013. Benedict's election as pope occurred in the 2005 papal conclave that followed the death of Pope John Paul II. Upon his resignation, Benedict chose to be known as "Pope emeritus", and he retained this title until his death in 2022.Ordained as a priest in 1951 in his native Bavaria, Ratzinger embarked on an academic career and established himself as a highly regarded theologian by the late 1950s. He was appointed a full professor in 1958 when aged 31. After a long career as a professor of theology at several German universities, he was appointed Archbishop of Munich and Freising and created a cardinal by Pope Paul VI in 1977, an unusual promotion for someone with little pastoral experience. In 1981, he was appointed Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, one of the most important dicasteries of the Roman Curia. From 2002 until he was elected pope, he was also Dean of the College of Cardinals. Before becoming pope, he had been "a major figure on the Vatican stage for a quarter of a century"; he had had an influence "second to none when it came to setting church priorities and directions" as one of John Paul II's closest confidants.Benedict's writings were prolific and generally defended traditional Catholic doctrine, values, and liturgy. He was originally a liberal theologian but adopted conservative views after 1968. During his papacy, Benedict advocated a return to fundamental Christian values to counter the increased secularisation of many Western countries. He viewed relativism's denial of objective truth, and the denial of moral truths in particular, as the central problem of the 21st century. Benedict also revived several traditions and permitted greater use of the Tridentine Mass. He strengthened the relationship between the Catholic Church and art, promoted the use of Latin, and reintroduced traditional papal vestments, for which reason he was called "the pope of aesthetics". He also established personal ordinariates for former Anglicans and Methodists joining the Catholic Church. Benedict's handling of sexual abuse cases within the Catholic Church and opposition to usage of condoms in areas of high HIV transmission was substantially criticised by public health officials, anti-AIDS activists, and victim's rights organizations. On 11 February 2013, Benedict announced his (effective 28 February 2013) resignation, citing a "lack of strength of mind and body" due to his advanced age. His resignation was the first by a pope since Gregory XII in 1415, and the first without external pressure since Celestine V in 1294. He was succeeded by Francis on 13 March 2013 and moved into the newly renovated Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in Vatican City for his retirement. In addition to his native German language, Benedict had some level of proficiency in French, Italian, English, and Spanish. He also knew Portuguese, Latin, Biblical Hebrew, and Biblical Greek. He was a member of several social science academies, such as the French Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 03:27 UTC on Tuesday, 22 April 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Pope Benedict XVI on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Niamh.

Patrick tackles a challenging question from Cynthia about Hebrews 6:4-6 and the complexities of repentance. He discusses how, despite what the passage might imply, the Church teaches the enduring possibility of returning to grace through repentance and confession. Misinterpretations, like those of the Catharists in history, have led to dangerous practices. But remember, God's mercy is unfathomable and always available. Cecilia - How do we understand Hebrew 6:4-6? My friend left the Church but came back, although she practiced other faiths when she was away. Is she saved? (01:10) Joe - Can a Eucharistic Minister celebrate the Mass? (07:07) Randy – What is the age of obligation for children to fulfill their Sunday obligation? (13:39) Tom - I was at my nieces wedding which was Tridentine Mass. There seemed to be almost a cult like attitude, and I was wondering if you think that is the case? (19:37) Alex - Is it okay to have conception happen outside of the womb? Does the intent of having life change how we view IVF? (36:03)
Today we'll trace the development of both the Divine Office and the Mass over 1,000 years, beginning with St. Gregory the Great in the 6th century and concluding with the reforms of the Council of Trent. We'll discuss how St. Gregory helped shape the liturgical framework and preserved unity while allowing local traditions to thrive. Moving forward, we'll trace how these traditions evolved, influencing lots of different rites across Europe. We're not used to thinking that lots of rites are good – but what was good about them? And why did these ultimately lead to the standardization by Pope St. Pius V, known as the Tridentine Mass. Join us as we journey through this intricate and fascinating liturgical history. The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. Authentic spiritual life, the sacraments, and the traditional liturgy are its primary means of bringing this life of grace to souls. One of the great roles of Holy Mother Church is to teach us how to speak to God, to create in our hearts the proper dispositions of religion. She does this especially through her liturgy, where we have a ceremony prepared for us such that all we have to do is enter into it and make ourselves one with it, as far as possible, in order to become holy. One of the most powerful ways in which the Church teaches us the sentiments we should have in our souls, and creates those sentiments in us is through her hymns. There are hundreds upon hundreds of hymns that have been created throughout the centuries, providing the Church with a vast musical repertoire.Among them all, there are two, however, that seem to stand out above the rest, two hymns of sorrow, two hymns concerned with the most lamentable topic possible: death. One is the Dies Irae, about the Last Judgment; the other is the Stabat Mater, about Our Lady witnessing the death of Our Lord. Both were composed in the 1200s; both were used as sequences at Mass and were among the five sequences that were kept by Pope Pius V when he canonized the Tridentine Mass. Both of them were set to music by great composers on their deathbed. Mozart was composing music for the Dies Irae when he died at the age of 35; Pergolesi was composing music for the Stabat Mater when he died at the age of 26.Both of them were lost to the liturgy of the Church when the Novus Ordo Mass got rid of Latin and Gregorian Chant. We are blessed to be able to hold on to them and profit from them by holding on to the traditional Mass.We are more familiar with the Stabat Mater than the Dies Irae because we sing the Stabat Mater whenever we pray the Stations of the Cross during Lent. The Franciscans have a great devotion to the Passion of Our Lord and you know that St. Francis of Assisi received the very wounds of Our Lord in his body. Less than a century after the death of St. Francis, the Franciscan Jacopone da Todi composed the Stabat Mater. His composition is so beautiful and inspiring that over 300 composers have set the words of the hymn to music. The hymns has twenty stanzas. The first four stanzas set the scene by telling the story of what is happening; the next four stanzas make an appeal to the one listening to the hymn to have sympathy for this mother who is standing at the foot of the cross of her dying Son. Then there are ten stanzas addressed directly to Our Lady, making beautiful requests of her. Finally, the hymn ends with two stanzas addressed to Our Lord, asking Him that we may go to Heaven when we die.I would like for us to focus upon those ten stanzas in the middle of the hymn where we make our appeal to Our Lady.

SPECIAL GUEST Brother Andre Marie Host of the ReConquest aired only on the Crusade Channel. Follow Brother on GAB and Twitter - @Brother_Andre HEADLINE: Saint Nicholas of Bari (350) by The Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary The great Saint Nicholas, whom everybody knows and speaks of, was an Archbishop at Myra in Asia Minor. He has come to be honored as the patron saint of children. His relics were taken by the Italians to Italy in 1087, and are now honored there, at Bari. Saint Nicholas raised three children from the dead. His name has been corrupted from Saint Nicholas into “Santa Claus.” The true Saint Nicholas is the one who honors those who love and venerate him as a saint, not as an advertisement. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of Russia. HEADLINE: Why I Love St. Nicholas by Charles A Coulombe But one day, the very man who had made Santa live in our home took it upon himself to end my faith in him. Dad explained to me that although he himself was responsible for the actual delivery of gifts, and the North Pole was empty of everything but Polar Bears, Santa made up in symbolic value what he and his cohorts lacked in objective reality. Moreover, he was a sort of image of a very real person, St. Nicholas. Dad then proceeded to pull out from his bookshelf the December 1960 American Heritage and opened it to an article — “A Certain Nicholas of Patara.” Thanks to my father, I shed my belief in Santa and gained instead a love of St. Nicholas. On a happier note, however, St. Nicholas will always be Christ's second in the matter of Christmas celebration. Alongside his Divine Master, he reminds us that the gifts, the lights, the ornaments, the tree, the holly and the mistletoe, and the Christmas dinner are pointers, not ends in themselves, as we moderns tend to make them. But if we use them rightly, in the true spirit of St. Nicholas, they will bring us not merely to the sentimental joys of this Christmas, and the next, and the next — but to the Eternal Happiness of that Christmas which never ends, but always is. St Nicholas and Father Christmas are not the same person. HEADLINE: The Politics of Christmas by Charles Coulombe The oldest Cathedral - Saint Nicholas - Calvinist cathedral dedicated. In this country it was illegal to have Christmas! The personification of these became known as “Father Christmas,” who was seen as a political ally in the struggle — and who in time became the major gift giver for children. In sharp contrast to the New England Puritans, their Dutch brethren in what became New York retained Christmas, and most especially the figure of St. Nicholas, who then and now was the gift distributer of Yule in the Netherlands and the rest of Central Europe. He, of course, in turn became our Santa Claus, who has since turned Father Christmas into a sort of clone, despite their wildly different origins. All of that nonsense that Christmas came from Pagan origins - all of that has been debunked. HEADLINE: In Defense of Christmas by Brother Andre Marie The Ox and the Ass know their Maker but Israel knows not its God. If Israel is unworthy he will come in on an Ass or Donkey. He was a Gentile not a Jew. "The ox knows its owner, and the ass its master's crib; but Israel does not know, my people does not understand.” Isaiah 1:3 ReConquest Episode 400: Don't Call It ‘the Tridentine Mass'!
Catholic theologian David Torkington urges Catholics to return to traditional 'Tridentine Spirituality' as the answer to the rampant selfishness gripping the world after Vatican II. Torkington asserts that contemplative prayer rooted in the ancient Jewish 'Shema' of Israel — finding full expression in the Council of Trent and the Tridentine Mass — has the power to transform our world and return to first principles: total love and fidelity to God. Discover how faithful Catholics can authentically give their lives to God through traditional contemplative prayer steeped in thousands of years of faithful devotion. If it's true that it's “the Mass that matters,” then obviously the more Traditional Latin Masses in the world today the better for everyone – Catholic or not. The Bishop of Duluth, Minnesota, has set an important precedent for every bishop in the world. He's not a traditionalist but, the wake of Traditionis Custodes, he's gone to bat for his traditional Catholic community. In this Special Edition of the Remnant Underground, Michael Matt speaks to those who are not necessarily traditional Catholics or who are new to the Latin Mass. To quote Michael: “I hope the viewer will understand what we're trying to do here. This is not about the SSPX, the FSSP, or my personal opinion of the liturgical revolution. It's a bit outside of that box, which is why I encourage you to share it with your family, friends, diocesan priests and bishops.” Michael also provides a short “refresher course” on the Tridentine Mass itself – the Mass of history, important parts of which date back to when Jesus Christ and His Apostles walked the earth. This Mass was celebrated on the tombs of the martyrs in the Roman catacombs. It is thus part of the liturgical patrimony and birthright – not just of traditionalists – but of every Christian in the world today. At the very least, it should be regarded as an invaluable treasure of Christian antiquity. It has been called the “most beautiful thing this side of heaven”, and it is the Mass of every virgin, martyr, crusader, pope, and Christian man and woman in history (in the Latin Rite). It is the Mass St. Maximillian Kolbe offered before being murdered by the Nazis. Father Walter Ciszek offered this Mass in his Soviet prison cell. Cardinal Mindszenty offered this Mass the morning he was arrested. It is Padre Pio's Mass. The Mass of Don Bosco. The only Mass Joan of Arc ever knew. The Mass King Louis IX and King John III Sobieski heard just before going off on Crusade. It is the Mass about which Pope Benedict XVI said: “What earlier generations held as sacred remains sacred and great for us too and cannot be forbidden or even considered harmful.” So why, asks Michael, is Pope Francis trying to forbid it? Back in 1971 Agatha Christie, along with many other writers, artists, and intellectuals (some Catholic, many not), signed a letter defending the traditional Tridentine Mass ('the Latin Mass') on the basis of its cultural contribution to Art and the Dignity of the Human Spirit. What can this letter and the surrounding conversations teach us today, as we yet again find ourselves in a state of liturgical confusion? We're staying out of the politics and the drama and exploring the BEAUTY of the Mass. We'll learn about the famous 'Agatha Christie indult' and Katie shares the incredible impact the traditional Mass has had on her personally. Lots of incredible music from a recreation of a High Latin Mass in Paris throughout. ---- www.bornofwonder.com Leave a review for the podcast on iTunes and leave a star rating on Spotify! Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - Cardinal Wilton Gregory announced Friday that the Traditional Latin Mass will be restricted to three locations in the Archdiocese of Washington. Starting September 21, the Extraordinary Form of the Mass will only be allowed to be offered at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in Washington DC, Saint John the Evangelist in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Saint Dominic in Aquasco, Maryland. The new protocol requires priests in the archdiocese to obtain permission to offer the Ordinary Form of the Mass ad orientem, “to the east” in Ecclesiastical Latin, in which the priest and the congregation together face the tabernacle during the Mass. Weddings and baptisms in the Extraordinary Form will not be allowed in the Archdiocese of Washington under the new limitations, which will be reviewed in three years. Gregory's announcement of the new policy came less than a week after the anniversary of Pope Francis' promulgation of Traditionis custodes, a motu proprio which placed sweeping restrictions on the celebration of Mass using the 1962 Roman Missal, also known as the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite, the Tridentine Mass, and the Traditional Latin Mass. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251850/cardinal-gregory-latin-mass-restrictions The US House of Representatives voted 228-195 to pass a bill Thursday that would establish in federal law a right to access, use, and provide contraceptives. The move responds to the Supreme Court's recent decision to overturn Roe v Wade. The legislation, pro-life leaders caution, has broad implications that extend past contraception and could go so far as to protect abortion drugs. The vote comes after the House voted in favor of a bill on Tuesday that would federally recognize same-sex marriage, and provide legal protections for interracial marriages. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251844/right-to-contraception-act-us-house-passes-bill-with-implications-for-abortion-religion Today, the Church celebrates the Feast of Saint Mary Magdelene, one of the most prominent women mentioned in the New Testament. Some scholars identify Mary Magdalene with the sinful woman who anointed the feet of Christ with oil in the house of Simon the Pharisee. Others associate her with Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus. Some believe the three figures to be one person, while others believe them to be three distinct individuals. What the Scriptures make certain about Mary Magdalene is that she was a follower of Christ, who accompanied and ministered to him. The Gospels record her as being one of the women present at Christ's crucifixion. In addition, she was the first recorded witness of the Resurrection. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-mary-magdalene-309

Father John Mark Cheitnum and Father Denatus Cleopas were abducted at around 5:45 pm on July 15 at the rectory of Christ the King Catholic Church, in the town of Lere in Nigeria's northern Kaduna State. Cleopas escaped with his life, but Cheitnum was “brutally killed” by his abductors on the day of his kidnapping, a letter from the diocese of Kafanchan says. His burial is scheduled for July 21 at the Kafanchan's Cathedral of Saint Peter. The diocese did not say who the kidnappers were thought to be, or whether any ransom was demanded for the two priests. At least seven Catholic priests were kidnapped in Nigeria in the month of July, according to data compiled by Aid to the Church in Need, a Catholic nonprofit organization. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251827/kidnapped-priest-killed-in-nigeria-another-escapes A 76 year-old English grandmother who was fined for praying near to an abortion clinic has successfully overturned her financial penalty. Rosa Lalor, from Liverpool, was issued the fine during the country's lockdown in February 2021, after a policeman questioned why she was out doors and she replied that she was “walking and praying”. The officer involved said that this was not “a reasonable excuse” and that she was in fact protesting and so she was then arrested, detained and fined. As a result of a legal challenge, Merseyside Police have now conceded that Lalor should not have been detained due to the fact she was firmly within her rights to silently pray while out walking and that her actions were reasonable and acceptable under Covid-19 regulations. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251830/english-grandmother-arrested-for-praying-near-abortion-clinic-wins-religious-freedom-challenge Bishop Stephen D Parkes of Savannah has announced that Traditional Latin Masses in his Georgia diocese will cease in May 2023. The bishop said that he had requested permission from the Vatican Dicastery for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments for parishes in his diocese to offer Mass according to the 1962 Roman Missal and received a response from Rome that one parish can offer the Mass weekly and three parishes can offer the Mass monthly until May 20, 2023. The Georgia bishop's announcement came one day before the anniversary of Pope Francis' promulgation of Traditionis custodes, a motu proprio which placed sweeping restrictions on the celebration of Mass using the 1962 Roman Missal, also known as the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite, the Tridentine Mass, and the Traditional Latin Mass. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251822/vatican-instructs-savannah-diocese-to-end-traditional-latin-masses-in-may-2023-bishop-says Today, the Church celebrates Saint Margaret of Antioch, a virgin and martyr. Having embraced Christianity and consecrated her virginity to God, she was disowned by her father and adopted by her nurse. Threatened with death unless she renounced the Christian faith, the holy virgin refused to adore the gods of the empire. Several attempted methods of killing her failed, and she was finally beheaded. The Greek Church honors her under the name Marine on July13, and the Latin church as Margaret on July 20. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-margaret-of-antioch-307

This weekend I would like to make myself accessible before or after each Mass for those who wish to say goodbye to me before my final departure, which will take place in about a week on the feast of our patroness, St. Anne. Since it will be impossible for me to greet everyone personally, and since this is the last time I will address you at the weekend celebrations, I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank you all for the messages, letters, emails, gifts, prayers and gestures of affection that you have given me, especially in the last few weeks. For some time now it has been impossible for me to respond to the outpouring of communications and I hope that my words today will reach all of you, like those bottles in stories that are thrown into the ocean by those who live on deserted islands, in the hope that they will reach, through the storms, across the sea, the people who are meant to receive them. I am taking your letters with me to read them slowly when I am in Spain. The most important thing, however, is to preserve the union that exists among all in the mystery of the Communion of Saints. United to Christ by sanctifying grace, we are all united to one another as branches of the same vine, and that is a union which neither physical distance nor death itself can undo. This Sunday's readings, in both the ordinary and extraordinary forms of the Eucharistic celebration, help us to understand both the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the fundamental mission of the priest. In the ordinary form we have heard two very special stories in my opinion, because among other reasons on my pilgrimage on foot in the Holy Land four years ago, I had the grace to visit both the Oak of Mamre in the city of Hebron, where Abraham received and served God in those three mysterious characters that represent the Holy Trinity, and Bethany, where Jesus was received by Martha and Mary, and where the Gospel scene that we have all just heard takes place. The Gospel of the Tridentine Mass takes us to the shore of Lake Tiberias, where the Lord performs the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and thus feeds the hungry multitude. The first part of the Holy Mass, which we call the Liturgy of the Word, focuses on listening to the Word of God. In this first part in which we now find ourselves, we should all be like Mary of Bethany and place ourselves at the feet of our Master to learn from him who speaks to us. Listening, obviously, does not mean simply hearing with our ears the readings that are proclaimed, but welcoming into our souls the Word that gives eternal life. It is to model our heart and our behavior, our life and our inner world, according to the message of Christ that is actualized for us by the Church. That is the mission of the priest or the deacon when we preach: we are not here to give our opinions, but to bring you the teaching of Jesus, as if we were the echo of his voice in today's world. Today I want to thank you for having always listened attentively to my word, which so often has been a fragile word, and sometimes mispronounced. In the fragility of my word, I hope that you have been able to hear the very Word of God and the Wisdom of the Cross, which is in reality the living Person of Christ. As St. Paul says in today's second reading: "It is he whom we proclaim, admonishing everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.” Secondly, after the Liturgy of the Word, and after listening to Jesus as Mary did, with all our attention and all our love, the Lord feeds us with the Bread of Life, which is Holy Communion. The text of the Gospel of St. Mark heard this Sunday in the Tridentine Mass underlines the words of Jesus before working the miracle of multiplication of the loaves: "I have compassion on these people". The Lord, still today, takes pity on our poverty, on our helplessness, on our extreme weakness without him. And so, he works the Eucharistic miracle: The Bread truly becomes the Body of the Lord. The wine becomes his very Blood, and thus becomes the nourishment and strength of those who receive him in a state of grace. For this to happen, the priest must cooperate with the God who desires to satiate the heart of man. We are first asked to give what little we have and are: our seven loaves which are nothing, but which, in the hands of Jesus, multiply to satisfy the hunger of the world. Then he asks us to distribute this bread, to serve him as the apostles did or as Abraham did by the Oak of Mamre. This continues to be the case today. If we listen to the Word of Jesus, if we place our poverty in God's hands, he can continue to save the world. The ministry of preaching and sacramental ministry are part of the essence of the priestly vocation: in these ten years, with countless shortcomings, this is what I have done for you. The new pastor, Father Keith, will continue to carry out this service for you: his word will not be his own, but Jesus'; the food that he will put in your mouth will be the same that I have been distributing to you for the past ten years: Jesus. Although the accessory, which is us, may change, what is substantial and important, which is Jesus, remains. So it is and will always be in the history of the Church until the end. Thank you all for your affection, your trust, your patience and your understanding during these years. I invite you to always seek the only important thing (Lk 10: 42), to live for God in Christ Jesus (Rm 6:11), and to dwell always in the Church seeking together the Will of our Father. Let us be like Abraham, and serve God by being hospitable to our brothers and sisters. Let us be like Mary of Bethany, and let none of Jesus' words be lost. Let us be like the disciples, and share freely with our brothers and sisters what we have received freely. And in this way, may we work together in the Church for the salvation of the world and deserve one day to rest together in the joys of heaven.

"The Mass of All Time" One fact cannot have failed to surprise you: at no time during this affair has the Mass been in issue, although it is at the heart of the conflict. This enforced silence is the tacit admission that what is called the Rite of St. Pius V remains fully authorized. On this subject Catholics can be perfectly easy in their minds: this Mass is not forbidden and cannot be forbidden. St. Pius V who, let us repeat, did not invent it but “re-established the Missal in conformity with the ancient rule and the rites of the Holy Fathers,” gives us every guarantee in the Bull Quo Primum, signed by him on July 14, 1570: "We have decided and declare that the Superiors, Canons, Chaplains and other priests by whatever title they are known, or Religious of whatsoever Order, may not be obliged to celebrate Mass otherwise than as enjoyed by Us. We likewise order and declare that no-one whosoever shall ever at any time be forced or coerced into altering this Missal: and this present Constitution can never be revoked or modified, but shall for ever remain valid and have the force of law….Should anyone venture to (make such an alteration), let him understand that he will incur the wrath of Almighty God and of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul." Supposing that the Pope could withdraw this perpetual indult, he would have to do it by an equally solemn act. The Apostolic Constitution Missale Romanum of April 3, 1969, authorizes the so-called Mass of Paul VI, but contains no expressly formulated prohibition of the Tridentine Mass. So much so that Cardinal Ottaviani could say in 1971: “The Tridentine Rite has not been abolished as far as I know.” Read the full book: https://angeluspress.org/products/open-letter-to-confused-catholics

From there, on October 26, 2015, my 13 year run on Sirius Satellite Radio came to a close when my contract was not renewed. Chris would follow the above bio with an updated one titled, The Mike Church Show – Too Catholic For Satellite Radio. On this episode, longtime Commonweal contributing writer Rita Ferrone draws on her extensive knowledge of liturgical history to explain the logic—and in her view, the wisdom—of Francis's decision. What do Catholics do without Mass? Is the threat as serious as they say? Are the politicians taking advantage of us? What's up with all the celebrities going stir-crazy? What are the real numbers concerning coronavirus. Wouldn't this be a great time to learn how to pray the Traditional Latin Mass? Dan sneezes. Eric compares it to Ginger's sneeze. Dan and Eric talk about pony kegs. In current events, Space X launches a Falcon 9 rocket successfully. An earthquake in Utah. Cuba sends doctors to Italy.
